Chapter 35 : Complicated and Messy

I didn’t even pause to explain things to Jace, I leaped from the couch and sprinted through the entryway and out of the front door. I ran flat out to the security gate. I saw a police car behind the gate and gasped when I saw Franky in the passenger seat. His face was bruised and bleeding and his eyes were half-open.

I shouted at the guard to let them through and he did. I directed the driver in the car to park near the front door. A woman in her late forties or early fifties jumped out of the car. She had graying hair, a pretty face, and a serious expression. I immediately recognized her as Chief Sara Walker. I’d only met her a few times as a kid, but she had a commanding personality that you didn’t forget.

But I couldn’t focus on her for long, I was too worried about Franky. I helped Sara get him out of the car and as we carried him up the steps, I noticed that he was half-conscious.
