Chapter 36 : Bloody and Broken

I walked down to the kitchen the next morning and received wonderful news from Dr. Brady. He was standing at the coffee pot looking tired but proud of himself.

“Good morning, Audry. You can see Franky now. He is awake,” he informed me.

“Thank you, Dr. Brady!”

I rushed to the hospital wing. After everything Dr. Brady had done for me in such a short amount of time, I felt immensely grateful to him. Whatever that man was getting paid, it was not enough. On my way there, I called Sara Walker to tell her that Franky could have visitors. She thanked me for letting me know and said she was on her way.

But when I walked in and saw Franky’s face, all of the happiness drained out of my body. His face was yellow, blue, and swollen like he was having a bad allergic reaction to something. My knees went weak as I looked at the state of him. I felt so guilty. Franky heard me walk in and his face brightened.

“Hey there, Audry! What are you doing just standing there?”
