Emily POV

During the endless hours of my flight, I was angry at the fact that Dominic had questioned my sexual life in the presence of everyone who had most likely listened to our conversation in the cell room. Never had anyone disrespected me in several years than he had done that very moment.

When I arrived at my apartment, I noticed a strange black van parked opposite my apartment. Before my journey to the prison, there had been no cars across the street, which makes this one very suspicious.

Regardless, I walked into the living room but stopped when a masculine scent hit my nose and this caused me to be alert, realising someone had broken into my space.

When I dropped my bag on the couch, I heard the sound of plates dropping to the floor in my kitchen and a deep voice cursing. I reached into my purse for a pepper spray, ready to take on the intruder.

My feet touched the floor quietly, as I moved towards the kitchen. My heart was pounding as I did not know what to expect.

When I arrived at the kitchen, there was no sign of anyone in the place, just broken plates on the floor. I couldn't hallucinate when I heard a voice. I moved towards the broken plates leaning down to grab one of the pieces and taking a look at it.

"I am sorry to have invaded your space." I turned around and attempted to spray his face, but the man had anticipated my move, holding my hands and removing the spray in a matter of seconds.

"Who are you and how did you get into my house?" I asked, reaching for a knife and pointing it in his direction.

"Relax tigress, I am not here to hurt you." The stranger says, raising his hands. "The least you can do is learn to cook once in a while. Do you know how tiring it gets when I have to eat outside and my boss has a girl that can cook?" He asked.

"Your boss? What are you even talking about? Maybe I should call the police right away." I said, trying to walk away from him, but he held me back.

"What device are you going to use to call the police? Are you talking about this one?" He asked, raising my phone for me to see.

"Give me my phone," I demanded, trying to reach for it but he was much taller than me. "Look I don't want to be a part of this, who are you and why are you in my house?" I asked one more time.

"Maybe if you calm down and listen, you will understand my purpose here." He stated, with an exasperated sigh. "Let's go to the living room." He said and turned around, leaving the kitchen.

When I entered the living room, he sat down comfortably at the table, eating a couple of snacks that I left inside the fridge.

"How dare you take my snacks?" I asked, trying to take it away from him, but he got his hands on it before me. "Are you going to say something or should I call the police?" I asked, placing my hands on my hips and glaring at him.

"I don't know why you are so scared of me. Do you think if I wanted to hurt you, I would not have done that a long time ago?" He asked, rolling his eyes and taking a bite out of my favourite snack.

"So what do you want?" I asked again, getting frustrated by him.

"I am here because I was told to come and protect you."

"By who?" I asked.

"You should be happy that I am taking my precious time over the next few weeks and protecting you when I should be with my girl and enjoy my life." He replied.

"First of all sir, I don't need your stupid protection. Second of all, I won't repeat myself when I say you should get out of my house immediately." I yelled.

"How ungrateful can you be? You come into the boss's house as an undercover agent and he tries to protect you from harm, even when his family members warned him about it. Still took you along and tried to escape and when he was arrested, he still informed me to keep you protected from Alessandro and his other enemies out there."

As he finished explaining, I was left with several questions hanging in my mind about Dominic. How can Dominic call the shots from the cell? What else do I know about him other than being a criminal?

"I hope you know Dominic is in prison. So how can he be giving you instructions from the prison?" I voiced out my thoughts.

"That is the problem with every single person that has ever crossed Dominic's part. They all underestimate what my boss is capable of doing." He says with a look of disappointment on his face. "I won't blame you, there are a lot of things that you will learn about Dominic." He stated.

"So what is the reason he asked you to protect me? Is it from Alessandro his brother? I can get a court order to be protected by the police, so I still believe you are lying to me." I expressed.

He looked at me for a split second and raised to his feet, reaching for his phone in his pocket. "Maybe I need to prove everything to you then." I watched him as he patiently waited for whoever it was he was calling to pick up.

"Hello Dorian I need to speak to the boss, it is a matter that requires his attention." He said in a rather formal tone. "Tell him, the lady wants to know my reason for protecting her." He added.

He removed the phone from his ear and handed it over to me. "Here, take this and speak to him yourself." I hesitated, but eventually got the phone from him and placed it on my ear.

"Hello sweetheart, surprised to hear my voice?" I froze.

I asked, still trying to make sense of the whole thing."Because I am Dominic Moreno, I can do anything I want." He boasted. "I will suggest that you seal your lips or you can be rest assured that Erick will take care of you." His voice was threatening. I looked up at Erick and he raised his shirt, revealing a gun underneath his trousers, causing me to get even more scared."Why are you doing this?" I asked."I am not going to hurt you, Emily, I just want to see you again. I am hoping to see you soon?” I tried to speak, but he cut the phone."He wants me to see him," I revealed this to Erick, who shrugged his shoulders."Whatever the boss wants, he gets." He said with a shrug. "No, your boss is a problem to the city, a hard criminal who thinks he can get away with everything and I am going to

Emily POV By the time I woke up from my sleep, I looked around realizing I was in an entirely different environment. The room was built on luxury and I could tell from the king-size bed I laid upon and the marble floor. Slowly my head is flooded with memories of all that had happened. My last moment with Dominic and how he had abducted me, after an invasion into his private cell. I got out of bed and walked out of the room, the long hallway which had several rooms side by side, didn't sit well with me because I wanted to speak to someone...anyone to say the least. While walking through the hallway, my ear perked up at the sound of laughter coming from a far corner of the hallway. I instinctively turned towards the path, where the voices were coming from. "You are still the same rusty gangster." Dominic's voice caught my attention by the time I reached the door, where the laughter was coming from. "I am so glad that you took the time off at the cell, it appears it must

I was a big fan of children and seeing the girl smiling with Dominic made me realize that even monsters can have a soft spot for their children. "Is this my new mom?" she asked in the sweetest way possible. I tried to look away as my cheeks turned red and hard. "No honey, but you'll like her," Dominic replied. The girl held out her hands, wanting me to take them. Dominic handed them to me and my whole heart melted. She was beautiful and her long, curly, thin hair and her eyes made her look like a princess. "What's your name?" she asked. "You can call me Emily, baby, how about you?" I asked. "Anita ." Although she was still toothy, the lack of teeth in the front row made her even more beautiful. "It seems like you like her," Dominic said. I was about to say something when the door opened again, revealing a woman. She had a piece of wood in her hand. "You idi

Dominic's POV The conversation between Emily and my mom was absurd. Although I had taken an interest in her, it appeared that my mom's countenance contradicted everything. It was perfectly understandable because of what she had done in the past as an undercover agent. While watching Anita and Emily engage in more conversation, I sipped my drink and a smile came over my face as I realized Anita had never been this happy around anyone other than her.The door opened and Barry stepped inside, he looked from Emily and Anita back to me and cleared his throat."Boss, we have a situation on our hands." The look of seriousness on his face showed me all that I needed to know, it appeared to be a serious problem."Tell Dennis to come and watch over both of them," I instructed while gulping down the rest of the drink. "Where are you going?" I paused right in my tracks as Emily questioned me, leaving Anita's hand alone and walking up to meet me."And why should I explain myself to you?" I ask

I yelled at his face and the room became tense once again. "Very well then, I guess speaking to you was a mistake after all. I will go and find some Mafia lord, who will be able to help me take down Maximus myself." He rose to his feet and adjusted his tuxedo. "When the security intelligence comes for you, I hope they catch you and put you behind bars." He added. I closed my hands in a tight fist, trying to resist the urge to just punch him in the face because of his words. "I heard you have a daughter now. How will it feel when she finds out that her father is behind bars for several crimes? Of Course, the school children will..." I did not all

Emily's Pov Staring at the frame in my hand, my eyes were fixed on the beautiful woman smiling back at me. It was sad that such a beautiful woman would have her life taken away from her and the mere thought of this brought sadness to my heart. "She was killed by a rival gang" he revealed, his voice low and while his eyes stared at me intently, I could see guilt written all over it. "They cornered us during a meeting and although I was lucky to escape, it cost the life of the woman I held dear to me." His hand was folded into a fist and anger etched across his face, for the first time I forgot I was dealing with a notorious Mafia lord who had kidnapped me and held me captive, all I saw was a grieving man whose love was taken away from him. "I am sorry about that." I said sympathetically, touching his hand. "I can only wonder how hard it is for you." His expression softened the band for a moment. I thought I saw a glimpse of a smile on his face, but it was quickly masked with h

Dominic's pov I stepped out of the room with a feeling of satisfaction. Emily was the perfect bait to get to Maximus, and I had no doubt he was going to fall for the trick because of his liking for women. Emily was too beautiful to resist for sure. While walking to my office, my mind was filled with the thought of her, she was smart and highly resourceful and although many would say it is due to her time as an agent, I view it differently, she has taken down several Mafia lords and having her with me could pose as a risk, but it was worth it. By the time I arrived at my office, I had sat down by my desk and picked up my phone, dialling Barry's phone. "Barry, I need you to brief Emily on the plan we talked about and make sure she knows what is expected of her, I already showed her the layout, but I know you will come up with something even better." Maximus POV "Are you sure he is going to answer your call to come to the address?" One of the men asked, to which I shook my head. "Knowing Dominic, he probably has some shady things off his sleeves, but I know he will come." I turned to the clubhouse, thinking of my plan that would soon be placed in motion. The rain was heavy, but the boys had taken it upon themselves to bring an umbrella. I had made my way into the club. The loud music blasted through the speakers, making everyone sway their hips to its rhythm. I wasn't here to party; I had serious business at hand, and there was only one place I could discuss my business: in the inner room. If Dominic was thinking he could be smart about concealing the deeds from me, I think I could take away the one last backup he replied to; Anderson. Before I would be allowed access into the inner room, I was to be checked thoroughly by the security at the doors, and the moment I gained access, I was welcomed into a smoke-filled atmosphere.

DOMINIC'S POV The car stopped just in front of the door of the house. Just like last time, nobody except Victor, Barry and Ezra knew that I was travelling back to Ireland to see Emily. The moment I stepped out of the car, Anita stormed through the door and jumped into my arms. “Papa!” She exclaimed. My heart was filled with instant joy as I caught her in my arms and spun her around. I buried my face in her hair and inhaled the scent of her it always brought me peace and gave me a sense of home. “I missed you so much.” She whispered and I tightened my hold on her. “Oh, princess, I've missed you too, more than you will ever know.” When I opened my eyes, I found Emily by the door, staring at me and my daughter. Our eyes locked, and I could see plenty of emotions swimming in hers. Her arms were crossed on her chest and I knew that she was holding back emotions—anger, hurt, relief… it was hard to tell. I gently put Anita down and I pressed a kiss to her forehead. “Go inside; I'll sho

DOMINIC'S POV The pain in my side had finally begun to dull. I could move a bit and I was sick and tired of being indoors. I'd not stepped outside in almost three weeks and it was sickening. I moved with the aid of my crotches and then I sat outside. It was nice to breathe in fresh, unadulterated air. I needed to clear my head and be away from everybody, but the silence only made my thoughts louder. I felt bad that I had not spoken to Emily since she was here, but that was because I needed the space between us. Needed both of us to have the chance to think about what we both wanted. I knew for sure that I didn't want to let this life go, but I also knew that I didn't want to let Emily go either. Victor's words echoed in my head. “Sometimes the action has to end and you have to settle down and focus on what is important.” I knew he was right, but I was not sure that it was something that I was willing to accept. I only knew how to survive by the barrel of the gun, asking me to surv

EMILY’S POV Not hearing from Dominic for days had me on edge. I knew that he was probably still recovering, but still, the silence made me very anxious. Maybe I had put too much pressure on him or picked the wrong way to discuss it. I sat at the edge of my bed and stared at my phone as though willing to ring. I thought that giving him space to heal and process things was the best thing, but now it seemed like I had made a huge mistake. I wished I could take that moment away, I wish I waited for a better moment to bring it up. A soft knock on the door startled me. I turned to see Anita walking into the room with a solemn expression on her face. “Emily?” She asked softly. I forced a smile onto my face. I didn't want her to get worried just because she saw me worrying. “Hey, sweetheart.” She walked over to me, sat beside me, and put her head on my shoulder. “You're thinking about him, aren't you?” She asked. “Yeah, I know you are too.” “I miss my dad. I wish he would come home.” S

DOMINIC'S POV Being in bed and not being able to help out with anything, except during meetings was driving me crazy. I was stuck in a wheelchair and I would be more of a liability than anything during missions. It even annoyed me more because it gave me too much time to think, and lately, the most predominant thing on my mind was my conversation with Emily before she left. The ultimatum she gave me weighed heavily on my mind. I was born into this life. I did not know what the world outside of it held for me. Asking me to leave this life was like asking me to take my own life, it seemed impossible to me. But at the same time, I did not want to lose Emily. She and my daughter were the most important thing to me and I did not want to lose her. Everything she said was true, it was selfish of me to subject her to this life, but I could not lose her. No, this wasn't a decision I could make. Emily was asking too much of me. The life outside of the Mafia would not be kind to me. I wasn't

Surely, he had to see the sense in what I was saying. I knew he knew that I was right, he was just too stubborn to acknowledge it. I think it was because he was afraid of what life outside of the Mafia would mean for him—I was not heartless; I understood that it would be hard for him. But living like this was too much, I wasn't sure I could handle it. Always being afraid that the next call I would get from Victor or Barry and Ezra was to tell me that he was dead. She was actually asking me to choose between losing her and losing the only life that I've known all my life. “You don't mean that?” My voice was filled with emotions, almost pleading, but when I looked into her eyes, I knew that she meant every word that she had said. “I love you, Dominic. I really do, but I cannot love like this. This…this constant worrying.” Her voice was low and I could hear the hurt in her voice. I tried to sit up, but I was in so much pain, and my head still hurt. “Don't try to stand up. I'm sorry I brought this up, this was the wrong time.” She said, looking guilty now. “There would have never been a right time to bring something like this up,” I said, frustration coursed through me, but I tried my best to control it. “You knew what you were getting into. The moment I was allowed to get out of this place, I will find Carlos and make sure he pays for this. I made an attempt to sit up, but the incredible pain from my side stopped me. “Oh, good, you're awake.” A nurse walked into the room, a small smile on her face, but I could tell that she was anxious. I liked the fact that she knew that just because I was in a vulnerable position didn't mean that I was to be fucked with. “How long have I been out?” I asked her. “About two days. After we took the bullet out of you and stopped the bleeding, we put you to rest.” She explained. “How long do I have to be here?” I asked through gritted teeth. “I am not sure. It was unexpected and we were not prepared for it. It was quick, precise and brutal—you would expect nothing less from Carlos Mendez. The first explosion caused our convoy to go into chaos, one of the SUVs in front of mine flipped over in a fiery wreck. Loud shots began to ring out immediately. “Get down!” Victor ordered loudly as he pulled out his gun and began to fire out the window. I was about to pull out my gun and begin shooting when the second blast rocked the ground under us. Our SUV was thrown to the side. The air was filled with smoke. The heavy stench of burning rubber and blood filled my nose. Pain shot through my body as I hit the glass. My vision began to blur but I f

EMILY’S POV It had been two weeks since Dominic had been away and we had only spoken on the phone three times. It was hard not to miss him, but I knew that I had to be patient. It wasn't so hard anymore. I spent a lot of time talking to Sophia and distracting myself with activities with Anita and Daniella. Anita was back to herself after a couple of days of not talking to anybody and staying in her room the whole day. I was worried that she would be like that until Dominic returned, but I was glad she found herself again. However, on some days,, I would catch her zoning out, and I knew she was getting worried about her father again. I wasn't the only one who noticed because Sofia asked me about it one time. “I don't think she is as fine as she pretends to be,” Sofia said as we watched Anita and Daniella talking together. “I don't think she is too, but she's trying her best,” I told her. “How old is she?” Sofia asked. “She's thirteen.” “This whole thing is a huge burden for a yo
