5: Disasters 

Elena

Rolly met me after third period, panting and out of breath after running across the school. We had fourth period together for French class and then for fifth period he had art while I had wellness, which is more like a werewolf sex education and nutrition class from what the syllabus looks like. From what I have learned once your wolf manifests, your appetite increases a lot and protein is absolutely essential. You can not be a vegetarian as a werewolf. If you try, your wolf will make hunting more of a priority. 

Now it’s lunch and Rolly came to get me. He is accompanying me to lunch and we are chatting about our French homework. We enter the cafeteria and he guides me through the lunch line. The food options are way better than anything they had at my school in California and it is all provided at no cost since it is a pack school. 

“Hey, sis!” Olivia greets, coming up behind me as Rolly and I go to a corner table. “I’ll sit with you two today. If Bea and Hunter want they can join us over here. I’ll introduce you to them, Ellie.”

“Cool,” I reply, noncommittally. 

“You and I have a problem!” A high snobbish voice says with an attitude as a manicured hand slaps the table next to me.

“Cheri, so pleasant to see you, as always!,” Rolly says, plastering a fake smile to his face in a mocking manner. “You haven’t met Elena Riley, Delta Riley’s eldest daughter, yet, have you? Cheri, meet Elena, she is awesome and doesn’t act like she owns the place, unlike some people who have no right!”

“Just because your aunt is the Luna doesn’t make you cool, Jon! Elena needs to learn a few things! Number one, I rule the school. Number two, Liam is MINE! Don’t look at him! Don’t talk to him and don’t even think you stand a chance in hades in stealing him from me!” Cheri announces, loudly with her head bobbing and her hand talking as much as her mouth.

“Cheri, just because you fuck the Alpha heir doesn’t make you an authority of any sort!  Everyone knows he won’t settle for anyone but his fated mate which you are not, so maybe you need to check yourself,” Olivia snaps.

“Besides, if he was really yours you wouldn’t need to announce things like this. He wouldn’t be checking the new girl out as if she were on the menu,” Rolly drawls lazily while he leans back in his chair.

“I. AM. THE. FUTURE. LUNA.” Cheri shouts and stomps angrily.

“And I’m the King of Spain,” I chortle, casually.

I hear a snort and then the Alpha heir himself, Liam, comes up behind Cheri and places a hand on her shoulder and says, “Come on, Cheri. Come sit with me and leave them to have their lunch. What do you say, we go eat in the garden, just you and me, huh?”

Liam nods his head in our direction, calmly as he leads the irate she wolf out to a table in an outdoor eating space surrounded by a beautiful garden. 

“She is completely delusional,” Rolly scoffs. “My cousin won’t choose her as his chosen mate unless he reaches thirty and still hasn’t met his mate.”

“Why does he even put up with her?” I ask.

“She gives out and she is the Beta’s daughter,” Olivia groans.

“She is nothing like her brother is she?” I ask.

“No she really isn’t,” Rolly agrees.

We eat our lunch and change the subject to something way more pleasant, music that we all like.  It turns out all three of us like at least a few of the same musicians.

My final two classes are near one another at the front of the school on the second floor, Rolly walks me to the first of the two, geometry, and then heads to his class at the other end of the school.

As I enter the classroom my eyes land on HIM…Liam. The Alpha heir smiles at me and pushes off the desk he is leaning against to approach me.

“Elena, I believe we haven’t had the pleasure of being properly introduced, but I suspect you know who I am. I am Alpha Heir, Liam Storm, and you are a natural beauty,” he says.

“It’s a pleasure to meet you, Liam, but Cheri seems to think she has her claws in you deep enough that you shouldn’t be flirting with me,” I reply.

“Cheri thinks a lot of things I constantly contradict, yet she still insists on believing them,” he counters.

“What about your fated mate? You shouldn’t be flirting with a wolf-less girl when you have a fated mate somewhere out there,” I tease.

“I like you. I rarely like people as much as I like you. You have sass and spunk and aren’t afraid to tell me things honestly. What if you are my fated mate? Perhaps your wolf will manifest and you will be my fated mate. You never know, Elena,” he says with a smirk. “I’d like to take you on a date Friday night.”

“Let me think about it,” I reply. “But for now, class is starting and I need to see if there is anything I will need to catch up or tutoring on.”

Throughout the class, Liam keeps flirting and glancing at me. I do my best to ignore him, but it’s hard to ignore the hot guy with the enormous presence and even bigger ego who keeps trying to get your attention.

My final class of the day is the worst, not because of the subject matter, I actually like marine biology, but because Cheri is in the class.

“I bet you think you are so cool because your father and brother are our top warriors and trainers,” she spits at me before I can even find a seat.

I try to ignore her.

“What? Are you deaf?” Cheri snorts. “I already heard you are wolf less. The poor wolf-less girl is basically a human, so she can’t possibly expect to compete with the rest of us. I bet you have to train with the children.”

I could put her in her place. I could show her right now what I am capable of. But I could get myself in a lot of trouble if I do. She’ll see soon enough. I’m not some helpless little girl.I might not have a wolf, but I know how to fight.

“The strong and silent act isn’t fooling anyone, bitch!” Cheri snaps and I finally turn around and smirk at her.

“Don’t you have an Alpha to chase, maybe go suck his dick in the bathroom or something, quick before the wolf-less girl steals him right from under you!” I retort, before turning back to the blackboard right as the teacher enters. 

All through class I can feel her staring daggers at the back of my head and hear her whispering. I ignore it.

After class a girl with red hair steps up to my desk as I pack my things and asks, “Are you really Noah’s sister?”

“Stepsister, but yeah, I guess,” I reply.

“He’s so dreamy! I’m Rosie! It’s nice to meet you, Elena, right?”

“Yeah…” I start and then Cheri cuts in.

“Rosie, maybe you and the wolf-less girl can play dollies while the rest of us train. We all know your wolf is a dud!” Cheri taunts.

“Do you have to be a mean bitch? I thought you wanted to be the next Luna. From what I have been taught, Lunas are supposed to be kind and care for all of their pack members, especially the weakest ones,” I reply.

Anyone surrounding us is “ooh”-ing. 

Rosie shakes her head and places her hand on my shoulder, “It’s okay. Cheri is my cousin, you don’t have to stand up for me. You wouldn’t want to make any enemies on my account anyways.”

“It’s not just about you, Rosie. It’s about attitude,” I sigh before slinging my bag over my shoulder and heading out to the front of the school where my father picks Olivia and I up and then drops off at home before he goes to do an afternoon training.

When we get home, it’s pretty apparent that my day sucked, other than meeting Rolly and Rosie. 

“Are you going to be okay? I mean Cheri was pretty harsh and I couldn’t miss her glaring at you as we left the school,” Olivia asks.

“I’ll be fine, Livie,” I reply, playfully.

“The only one who has ever called me that before was Clyde. He went to college a few weeks ago, but you would like him, I am sure,” Olivia replies with a faint blush coloring her cheeks.

I head into my room and drop my bag and then get changed. Working off some energy in the gym or blowing steam on the mats sounds like a great way to deal with a shitty day. I pull a basic tank over my cotton bra and switch to sweatshirts. I grab a hoodie in case it’s chilly and I head to the home gym but what I see when I get there makes my jaw hit the floor.

Noah and Ryder’s lips are locked together, Ryder’s hands are on Noah’s face and Noah’s got one hand in Ryder’s hair and the other on the crook of his elbow as their mouths move together. It’s hot, but I feel…I don’t know what I feel.

I turn on my heel and make a hasty exit.
