The afternoon sun filtered through the half-drawn curtains in my room, casting long, slanted shadows on the floor.

I stared at my phone, the picture of Emily's parents' file still open on the screen. The feeling of unease that had settled in my stomach since I discovered it hadn't gone away. I turned the phone off and threw it onto my bed.

“What am I supposed to do?” I muttered to myself, running a hand through my hair.

I couldn't shake off the confusion and fear that clung to me like a second skin. Finding that file on my dad's desk—it was like walking into a dark room, fumbling for the light switch, and finding something terrifying instead.

What was my dad up to?

My mind whirled with questions, but I knew I had to talk to someone. Someone who might have answers, or at least could help me make sense of this. I hesitatingly walked towards Daniel's study.

He was constantly irritated these days, but I needed to talk to him, before something out of my control happens. I won't be able

The photos of my parents in my hands made me tremble in fear. My heart pounded in my chest as I stared at the grainy images, unable to process the reality of what I was seeing. How had Emma's father managed to get these pictures? And why? I felt the world closing in on me, a suffocating weight pressing down on my chest. I hid the annoyance and pain in my heart and toughened up, asking Emma what this was all about. Dylan frowned at Emma, his eyes narrowing with suspicion. "What are you trying to do, Emma?" he demanded, his voice tight with anger. Emma looked at him, her expression earnest and filled with regret. "I'm trying to stop my father from committing any more crimes, for my sake," she said. Her voice was trembling slightly, but she held her ground. "I don't know everything, but I know enough to be scared for all of us." "What do you mean?" Dylan asked, his frown deepening. "What else could he be planning?" Emma took a deep breath, her eyes darting between us. "I ne

I couldn't believe what we had just uncovered. Dr. Reynolds, the man Emily and her family had trusted, was responsible for the death of her parents. “He killed my Dad, Dylan.” She whispered. I didn't know how to console her. I was just as shocked as she was with the information we found inside the flash drive.“You were right. I should have known that he was up to no good when he suddenly showed up.” She cried out again, bitter tears rolling down her eyes.“Emily. This isn't the time to cast blame. You can figure it out. We will figure out a way to ensure that he is taken down.” I said, trying hard to console her.In the past few weeks, she had gone through so much trauma and shock, I was beginning to get worried about her. “There is so much mess, Dylan. What is going on? What have I done so wrong, that the goddess hates me this much?” She whispered.“Emily, that's not the right train of thought. We need to find out how much of this we know, what the actual bottom of this whole thi

As I drifted in the hazy realm between sleep and waking up, a vivid memory took shape in my dream. I was young again, no more than ten, standing in the dim light of our old basement. My father, tall and solemn, knelt before me, his eyes serious and intense. “Dad?” I called out as I saw him fling some files under the table. “Emily. The old house. You need to go to the old house. Clues are there.” He whispered and then disappeared into thin air.The words echoed in my mind as I slowly returned to consciousness. My eyes fluttered open, and I stared at the sterile ceiling of the hospital room. I could still feel the weight of my father's words, the urgency and the fear in his eyes. My old house! My eyes flew open. The realization hit me like a lightning bolt – I needed to go back to that house. I needed to know more.“Emily! Emily, Oh thank the goddess you’re awake.” I heard Dylan's voice as he rushed over and held my hands. “I feared that you were going to leave me here.” I chuck

“What do you mean someone has been here? No one could have come here. What would they be looking for?” I asked.“If that someone was Dr Reynolds, he would probably be looking for the files on how to create the drug or something of that nature.” He replied and I felt a wave of dizziness hit me that I staggered a bit. “Em, Are you alright? You need to return to the hospital. We need to get you back to the hospital.”“I will. But not now. We need to see if there is anything, any clue that could lead us to the children.” I whispered and he nodded.Seeing that video of Dad brought it all into horrifying clarity. His face twisted in pain, eyes filled with despair—it felt like a dagger plunged into my heart. My special ability told me things the naked eye couldn’t see, and the moment I processed what Dr. Reynolds wanted, it was like the world crumbled around me. He didn’t just want us. He wanted our very essence, our abilities, our souls. “The kids. That’s why the kids were kidnapped. Em

"Hello?" I called out again, my brows furrowing in confusion. "Hello, Emily." His voice was smooth, dripping with malice. It really was Dr. Reynolds. My heart pounded in my chest."Dr. Reynolds..." I whispered, fear clawing at my throat. "What do you want?""I think you know why I'm calling," he said, a cruel smile evident in his tone. "You’ve been quite the investigator, haven’t you? Digging into things that don’t concern you."I felt a cold sweat break out on my forehead. "Where are my children?" I demanded, my voice trembling. "What have you done with them?""Oh, they’re safe. For now," he said casually, as if discussing the weather. "But that could change very quickly, Emily.""Please," I begged, my voice breaking. "Please let them go. They’re just children. They haven’t done anything wrong."Reynolds laughed, a low, chilling sound that made my blood run cold. "You always were too soft, Emily. It’s why you never succeeded in our line of work. Emotions make you weak."I could bare

The sun barely peeked through the thick clouds as I approached my old home. The place looked the same as it did before—an eerie silence enveloped it, broken only by the occasional rustle of leaves and the distant hum of traffic. My heart pounded in my chest as I stood before the weathered door, hesitant to open it.Memories of my father, his intense focus on his research, and the mysterious circumstances of his disappearance and death flooded my mind.“Dada, what are you reading?” My little self asked. Daddy would smile and play with my hair.“I'm reading to ensure the world becomes a better place, my sweet Emily.” He would always reply. My heart thumped at the feeling of nostalgia. Mom's chicken casserole, Dad spinning around in the living room, especially when I had good grades.I sighed. Don't let yourself get distracted. You're here to find clues. I chided myself. I had to find something—anything—that could shed light on what he was working on.If it would save the kids. Dr Reyn

“Dylan, there’s something I didn’t mention to you earlier on.” Emily said and I looked at her with raised brows.“Talk to me. What is it about?” I asked.“Remember the man that you saw in the house? When you were scolding me in the garden?” She asked in return. I nodded. “Mm-hmm? What about him?”“He said that Dr Reynolds had ordered him to sell off my house.” She said, “Why would Dr Reynolds order him to sell your house? How did he even get the legal deed of that house?” Daniel asked.“Exactly what I was about to ask. How did he get the documents to your house? And why does he want to sell it off now, out of the blue?” I asked and she shrugged.“I have no idea.” She said and frowned. “All I know is I want to kill that bastard by myself with my hands.” When she finished, I chuckled at how cute she sounded.“What’s funny?” She asked, still frowning. I shook my head and chuckled some more.“Nothing. It's just the way you folded your fists in anger and your frowning face, you looked s

It's been weeks since Victor was exiled from the pack. I felt free and relieved. For a very long time I have let the actions of others determine my happiness but Victor's betrayal made me see things in a totally different light.I was free. Free to be myself and not live behind the shadows anymore.Ever since the night Dylan and Daniel had rescued me, I noticed tension between them. They seemed to be avoiding each other. I could tell that they wanted to talk to me about something but then they decided not to say anything about it, probably thinking I was too fragile to handle whatever they were dealing with. “Daniel, Dylan” I called, as both men stood in front of me refusing to look at one another. “What is going on? Did you guys have a fight?” I asked, confused about their sudden change in attitude. I thought they were getting along so well, the change felt like a whiplash, it was just too sudden. “Emily, this can’t go on forever. You have to make a choice.” Daniel started, break

I have sent some scouts to go and look around the area.” James replied.“Call them back, I don't want to alert the enemies” Dylan commanded. “Okay sir” James immediately grabbed his phone and called the team to back down.“What next, Sir?”"Get the men. It was past midnight, the clock on the wall ticked steadily but still Emily had not returned from her outing with Victor. This was so unlike her, she had not also responded to my text messages and her line was out of service, both hers and Victor’s.My phone remained silent, no text or call from her, I was feeling uneasy about the whole situation. This was so unlike Emily. She always informed me of her movements, or at least she would tell Dylan.“Dad, where is Mom?” Keith asked, clutching his teddy bear.He has refused to sleep as he kept demanding for his mom, wanting to show her the stuff we got from the farmers market.“She will be back soon, come on, it is time to go to bed” I urged him, lifting him up and taking him back to his bedroom where his sister was already fast asleep.“But I want to show her what I got,” He insisted.“How about tomorrow, as early as possible you wake her up and show it to her” I convinced, pinching his chubby cute cheeks.“Okay, good night daddy,” he si

I sat bound in a dimly lit room, my mind racing in circles as I tried to make sense of the situation. “Why are you doing this?” I asked, my voice cracking from too much emotion as my lips trembled from the gnawing sense of betrayal that coursed through my veins. I have known Victor for years, and I could tell this was not him. Something was wrong, something had to be wrong. “Did someone approach you to do this? Were you threatened? You can tell me” I said, trying to grasp onto any form of hope that Victor would not willingly do this to me. “No, I did this for my own personal gain. You are of use to me, Emily” He answered. “What do you want, Victor?” I demanded, my voice trembling with a mix of anger and confusion as it finally dawned on me that Victor had indeed betrayed me. “Why are you doing this? I deserve an explanation.” Victor stood across the room, his face which had always seemed so composed, so kind, now felt cold. His whole demeanor was chilling. “You are right, you

The warmth of their bodies still lingered in my head and my body still felt sore. It was a very rough night. “Mummy, what are you smiling at?” Kira asked as she ate the tangerine her brother peeled for her. “Just thinking about how cute you are” I replied, my cheeks turning red at the thought of what I was really thinking about. “What about me?” Keith asked with a sulky expression, pouting his lips. “My handsome boy, you are cute as well” As soon as he heard my compliment, a huge smile engulfed his face and his sister immediately started teasing him and their banter began. Finally after weeks of uncertainty, I felt happy once again, It felt like I could finally move on with my life. I was st
