The Swift hands of the weasel reached into the drawer and she drew out a desert eagle. She took the clips and inserted them, her eyes flashing with courage and hostility, even with the memories of the woman she was sharing a body with, she had never welded a gun before.
Muscle memory became her guide.
She loaded the clip in the gun, the gunshots heralding into the night. As she was about to exit the bedroom, the door opened and the maid that had brought Aurora burst into the bedroom, her arm stained with blood from the bullet scrape she received.
“ Ma’am please take Aurora and run.” She warned, gritting her teeth in pain.
Nalita dropped her hand to her side and rushed to the maid, she placed a hand on her unwounded shoulder and a grim look married her face.” I have to protect this fort, don't worry about me, just take care of Aurora until I return.”
“ But ma’am...” Her protest died in her mouth when she saw the comforting look from Narita.
With the maid reassured, Nalita grabbed her phone as well and left the bedroom, praying that she made it out alive, she had died on two fronts: Suzzane and Nalita, and she was not going to repeat that.
She came down the curved stairs and one of the guards that were on patrol came into the house, he looked up at Nalita who was descending the stairs, and he was about to question why she was coming down when she was supposed to be hiding.
But he saw her look and his retort died down, behind was admiration and fear.
The look in Nalita’s eyes was that of a cold-blooded killer, a contrast from her caring look.
The front door busted open and two men, heavily armed with assault rifles entered, their trademark earpieces and dark sunglasses gave them away to Narita.
These were the platoon Vito used in her last life.
She felt scared yet motivated, for once in her life she had something to protect. A gunshot snapped her out of her trance, she watched as the guard inside fell forward, a bullet wound visible on his lower back.
She raised her hand and with precision she never thought she had, pulled the trigger twice, the deafening sound of the muzzle near her ear made her world disorientated.
Loud thuds followed after the two consecutive shots. Nalita glanced at the collapsed assailants with bullet holes in the back of their heads. A wave of excitement rushed over her.
As Nalita, she had done this countless times but as Suzanne, this was the first time she shot a gun, the ricocheting force the gun exhibited, and the ear-shattering sound from the muzzle, all added to an experience she had yet to have at the same time.
SYSTEM: acute precision, assailants left 6. To the eastern side of the house, two are on the rear of the house, and the remaining two are coming through the front.
Nalita sighed in relief, the ambush was not orchestrated by many assailants, but she still had six coming, the guards she had remaining were wounded but enough to carry out her plan. She was going to catch them by surprise.,
Nalita found the switch and turned the lights off leaving the house dark, she tiptoed to the door and hid behind it, she steeled her nerves, evened her breathing, and waited for the next batch.
The sounds of gunshots had died down leaving an eerie ambience. Natita knew her men were dead, the footsteps rushing to the entrance were an indication.
The moonlight was the only source of light creeping into the mansion, giving Nalita a view of the entrance. Two shadows appeared reflected on the red mat and she waited until they entered, she kicked the door closed, and before any could react, a deafening bang resonated from behind them.
One of the two assailants fell, the bullet through his neck, the other turned around only to get the base of the gun on his face breaking his nose and knocking him out in the process.
With three dead and one incapacitated, Nalita was left with only two, she knew the sneak attack like earlier wouldn't work. The gunshot was awfully loud, it gave away the element of surprise to the ones coming from the eastern side.
She crawled on the floor heading in the direction of the kitchen, her breathing as shallow as she could make it, she did not want to give herself away.
Nalita rummaged through the vacant kitchen, looking for something she could use; it did not take her long to find a gas cylinder hidden in one of the back stoves, she opened the valve and let the highly flammable gas leak into the kitchen, she intentionally dropped the lid of the pot to make noise in the kitchen so that they could follow it.
She jumped out of the window when the voices heralded into the dark house, and the kitchen, she stood from behind the open window, his gun pointed at the metal plate behind the two assailants, and she had one eye closed.
Her heart palpitated, she had one shot to end it all, the clip she had in the gun was not fully loaded, it had six bullets and she had wasted some of them when she killed the other three guards.
“ Vito will be satisfied with your corpse.”
“ I know right? You there.” One of the goons said as he pointed his gun at Nalita, a smirk on his face. Their boss divide and conquer tactic had prevailed, after that long they had Vince Rossi at his most vulnerable and they were going to take everything he held dear. “ Do not resist and die.”
The corner of Nalita’s lips tugged up at their words. “ How about you say hello to the devil for me when you get to hell.” Her index finger pulled the trigger and the bullet shot from the gun, the shell flew into the air, and seconds after the loud bang an even louder bang resonated.
As intended, the bullet hit the metal hanging on the door and created a spark when exposed to the gas pouring into the kitchen, violently exploded in a sea of flames, consuming the two men and the flames reached her, burning her face and arms from her proximity to the window.
Nalita sat down on the paved floor, her face burnt from the flames, but outside of that she was fine, her adrenaline rush vanished and Suzanne, the innocent maid piloting the body realized the gravity of her actions, she had killed people and she was enjoying every moment of it.
She hunched over to the side and emptied her stomach, she gazed at her hands trembling, she was no different from the people who killed her, she knew from her intertwined memories, that she had killed before but it was still foreign to her.
She wiped her lips from the remaining vomit. She got up and rounded the mansion into the main entrance, she half-dragged her body to the second floor ignoring the burning kitchen, she wanted to see if Aurora was okay, her baby girl.
The thought comforted her, she found herself smiling, she had protected Aurora.
Nalita got to the bedroom and opened the door, her gun released from her hold and it fell on the floor, tears glistened in her eyes as she saw her baby girl staring at her from the lap of the maid. Her eye colour was hers, watching her.
She extended her hand and Nalita rushed to the baby, she held her in her arms and tears stained her cheeks from the emotions flowing through her.
Outside, the covers of the night were being chased away by the light from the east, painting the world a soft, yellowish-gold colour.
Nalita reached for her phone, dialled Vincent’s number and waited for the line to connect.
“ Vince... I need you.”
"Nalita!" she heard her name as though it was from afar off. Who could it be? She opened her eyes and before her was a man, his heavy cut on the forehead was the first thing she saw, then the beard which was a mix of black, white, and golden hairs, and then the beads of perspiration mixed with blood on his forehead. "Oh I thought I lost you forever," the man said. Suzzane stared at the enigmatic figure and wriggled her head to both sides, trying to know where she was; heaven or hell? Or another fantasy world. Suzanne's head was throbbing as she tried to make sense of her surroundings. The unfamiliar face and the noise around her only added to her confusion. She mustered the strength to sit up, her gaze fixated on the stranger who had called her a name that wasn't hers."Who... who are you?" she managed to whisper, her voice trembling. The man's eyes welled up with tears, his voice choked with emotion. Suzzane looked around with her mind wandering around the questions in her head. She delved into the powers of her mind to know how to roll on as the new personality.First, knew that she needed a mirror, to know what she looked like but there was none. "Are you okay now?" Mia asked and Suzanne nodded. She needed to be Nalita Rossi, but she knew nothing about her. All that she knew was the new name, but nothing of her position or persona. Confused, she closed her eyes and immediately, she felt a strange sensation within her. A mechanical voice emerged, devoid of any emotion, speaking directly into her mind. Suzanne sat before the lavishly set table, her eyes wide with wonder as she took in the array of the dishes spread out before her. It was a feast, unlike anything she had ever experienced in her life. She had seen such a setting but it was as a slave, serving Vito's son without the dare to have a taste of it. The memories of her days as a slave came flooding back to her—the meagre scraps of food she had been allowed, the hunger that gnawed at her stomach day after day.But now, the tables had turned, and she found herself in a position she could never have imagined. If the ThreeBirth system had more dangers in it she could feel that there was a part of it that would be soft, and this was one of them. Beside her, Vince dug into his food with gusto, his enjoyment evident on his face. He paused for a moment, glancing at Suzanne with concern.
