New York
Vanessa sighed and frowned at her best friend who had shamelessly intruded into her workplace to convince her to attend a dinner date with her.
"Woah girl don't give me that look, okay? I am just asking you for a favour." Megan pouted her lips and gave Vanessa the most effective puppy face look.
"You are asking me to go on a blind date—"
Cutting her off, Megan shrugged her shoulders. "Well, it really isn't a blind date—" when Vanessa gave her a very weird look, she added, "I mean it isn't a blind date for me."
"Yes but it is for me." Vanessa sighed and continued, "Megan you know I am not supposed to date."
"But why? Who the hell is stopping you?"
Pausing for a while, Vanessa added, "It isn't right for me to date anyone."
Rolling her eyes, Megan snapped, "Stop being such an angel, that man left you dry for five years and hasn't turned in yet, what makes you feel he will? Do you even know whether he is alive or dead? What if he is enjoying his life banging every woman he sees? And here you are wasting your life waiting for someone who hasn't even bothered to even give you a missed call over the last five years."
Dazing for a couple of seconds, Vanessa took a deep breath, "No matter what Meg, Oliver is my fiance and I love him."
"Are you telling me that you love him or convincing yourself?" When Vanessa did not say anything, Megan sighed, "Look honey, I know you don't like giving up on relationships and people so easily but five years, do you have any idea how much you have already missed out?" Helplessly shaking her head, she sighed, "Okay fine, you waited for him and anticipated his return but what if he never comes back? Are you planning to stay this way forever?"
Pinching the bridge of her nose, Vanessa frowned, "Why are we talking about this now?"
"Because you rejected my double date offer."
Glancing at the watch, she frowned, "It's almost eleven, don't you have to work today?"
"I'll leave as soon as I finish convincing you." Grabbing her hand, Megan added, "Please Ven, I would've never forced you this way if Bryan wasn't bringing his friend with him."
"Bryan? I thought the guy's name was Victor," she frowned.
"Victor is an old story, I broke up with him a couple of months ago."
"Okay so who is this Bryan?"
Megan pouted her lips and complained, "I told you about him during our video call."
Awkwardly clearing her throat, Vanessa defended herself, "Well, I was very busy back then and it was very hectic." When Megan raised her brows, she sighed, "Fine, I had to mute you sometimes because I couldn't really focus when you kept ranting about everything."
Vanessa had returned from Paris a couple of days ago after representing her company in a business conference which lasted for a whole month.
When she was in Paris, Megan used to call her everyday without fail and kept ranting about how clumsy her tinder dates were. At first, she used to listen to her best friend attentively, consoling her from time to time. But later when she got busy, she used to mute her most of the time.
"I hate you," Crossing her arm in the front, Megan jerked her head to the other side.
"Look I am sorry Meg but you know how important that conference was, I was super worried and maybe I wasn't thinking straight. I am so sorry, how can I make it up to you?"
Keeping quiet for quite some time, Megan asked, "You'll do anything that I want, right?"
"Anything as long as you aren't upset anymore."
"Okay so come with me tonight for the double date," she grinned.
Vanessa sighed and helplessly shook her head. "Seriously? How did I not see that coming?"
"You already said it, there is no turning back.”
"Fine, but only this time."
Megan beamed in joy and gave Vanessa a hug. "You are the best Ven, I love you." Grabbing her coat and bag, she added, "Alright, I gotta rush now. I'll see you tonight."
….
After Megan left, Vanessa smiled and helplessly shook her head.
Her best friend, Megan Perry was the only reason why she hadn't turned into a grumpy old lady at the young age of twenty-eight.
Looking at the ring which had been shining on her finger since the last five years, she took a deep breath.
It had been five years since her fiance Oliver Becker left saying he would come back very soon. He never told her the reason behind his disappearance, he just asked her to wait for him and promised her that he would definitely come back. Ever since then, Vanessa had been waiting for him with a little hope in her heart that he would fulfill his promise. She had met Oliver in college. He was a handsome hunk and she was an introvert who wasn't a fan of socializing. Everyone said that they would never work out but surprisingly they did. After dating for almost a year, they moved in together. Oliver was very sweet and loving, he treated her quite well and she really enjoyed his company. At times she did feel there was something missing between them but she never really paid attention to it.
8:00 pm Retro club. "I thought it was a formal dinner date," Vanessa frowned. "Uh-huh it is." "But this is a club," she retorted. Checking herself out in her mini handy mirror, Megan nodded her head. "This club also has pirate rooms, Bryan has already booked one for us. We are gonna drink, dance and have dinner later." Vanessa sighed and nodded her head, "Alright but—” Stopping midway, she frowned when Megan suddenly grabbed her left hand and took off her ring. “What are you doing?” "I am doing something that is right. Come on Ven, you are going to a club for a date, how can you wear this useless meaningl
Taking the bottle from his hand, Vanessa took a sip. Looking at Megan and Bryan, Justin smiled, "They look happy together, don't they?" "They do," she smiled. "Well, I have never seen Bryan so happy and crazy over a girl in twenty-nine years of our existence." "Megan seems to like him alot too." Turning towards her, Justin asked, "What about you?" "What about me?" She asked. Pausing for a while, he answered, "You seem to have a lot of things hidden in your heart and eyes." When she raised her brows, he added, "Did I not tell you that I can read a beautiful woman's eyes?"
Next morning Vanessa’s apartment. “So did you have a great time?” Megan groaned in satisfaction and smiled, “How can a man be so handsome and so good in bed at the same time? How on earth is that possible?” Pouring a glass of juice for herself, Vanessa chuckled, “I can say that you had a really amazing time.” “Amazing? Honey it was so great that I had to beg him to stop because I couldn’t feel my legs and my body is still aching but no complaints, this is a sweet pain.” Pausing for a while, Megan asked, “Hey Ven, when was the last time you couldn’t feel your legs?” Helplessly shaking her head, Vanessa asked, “Who wants to have such a wild sex which makes your legs weak
Groaning in frustration, Vanessa gritted her teeth. “You are unbelievable, how can you just drop my engagement ring like that?” “Yes I know it’s my mistake but I am very sure that I dropped it in Bryan’s place.” Grabbing her bag, Megan added, “I’ll surely give him a call on my way to work and ask him to look for the ring, okay?” Without waiting for Vanessa's reply, she rushed out of the apartment and saved herself from the yelling. After Megan left, Vanessa slumped on the chair and pinched the bridge of her nose. After a few seconds, she raised her left hand and kept staring at the empty ring finger wondering if it was actually a good thing that Megan lost the ring. What if she was actually fated to lose the ring? Was she really better off without having to carry the load of an unwanted ring which sincerely meant nothing to her?
Wilson International Group. “Don’t get me started on what happened to the ring." Looking at Vanessa’s empty finger, Lucinda chuckled, “Well, I must say that though by mistake, Megan did the very right thing.” “Seriously? You are taking her side?” Shrugging her shoulders, Lucinda answered, “I am just saying the right thing, you are better off without it.” Without waiting for her reply, she added, “And I don’t understand why you even have it on, I mean my husband comes home late from work for three consequetives days and I just slam my ring right on his face. And yours hasn’t shown up for five years, why the hell were you even wearing it in the first place?” Grunting in frustration, Vanessa snapped, “Good
Albert Wilson, the CEO and chairman of Wilson International Group was one of the top businessmen in the country. His exceptional knowledge in various fields made everyone admire him. There were many who wanted to learn from him, take his knowledge. When Albert told Vanessa about training his grandson, she found it quite strange. Why would he want her to train his grandson under her when he was very capable of doing it? Getting up from his seat, Albert sighed, “I wish I could train him myself but, I also know that is not possible. He is my grandson—the most favourite one to be precise. If I train him, I will intentionally or unintentionally be lenient with him and that will definitely not help him grow. I want him to train under someone who will not treat him differently but also train him on fair terms.”
