Emily's POV
I stared blankly at Emilianna. My heart was beating so fast, I could feel it in my throat. I didn’t know how to begin. The words were there, but they were stuck. They felt too big, too heavy to say out loud.
"Emily," Emilianna said softly, her voice calm and gentle. "I’m here. I’m listening. Whatever it is, just tell me."
I swallowed hard, trying to find my voice. "I... I know something," I began, my voice shaking. "Something important."
Emilianna nodded, her eyes encouraging. "Go on," she urged, her tone patient and kind.
I took a deep breath, trying to steady myself. "It’s about Maron," I whispered, my voice barely above a whisper. "He... he killed your daughter."
Emilianna didn’t react the way I expected. She didn’t gasp or look shocked. Instead, she remained calm, her eyes soft but steady. "I know," she said quietly.
I blinked, confused. "You... you know?" I asked, my voice full of disbelief.
"Yes, Emily," she replied, her voice gentle but firm. "I’ve known for a long time."
"Then why haven’t you done anything?" I asked, my voice rising with confusion and frustration. "Why are you just sitting here, knowing what he did?"
Emilianna reached out and placed her hand on mine. Her touch was warm, comforting, but her eyes were filled with a sadness I couldn’t quite understand. "I have my reasons," she said softly. "It’s not something I can act on impulsively."
I shook my head, struggling to make sense of her words. "But he killed your daughter! Don’t you want justice? Don’t you want to make him pay?"
Emilianna gave me a small, sad smile. "Justice isn’t always about immediate action, Emily. Sometimes, we have to be patient and wait for the right time."
I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. "I don’t get it," I said, my voice trembling. "How can you be so calm about this? How can you just sit back and do nothing?"
Emilianna stood up, her eyes never leaving mine. "Come with me," she said, her voice gentle but firm. "There’s something I need to show you."
I hesitated, unsure of what she meant. But there was something in her eyes that made me trust her. Slowly, I got up and followed her. We walked in silence, the forest around us quiet except for the soft rustling of leaves under our feet. The air was cool, and the sky was starting to darken as the sun dipped below the horizon.
After what felt like forever, we arrived at a hidden cave, its entrance covered by thick vines. Emilianna gently pulled the vines aside, revealing a dark opening. "This is a place few know about," she said, her voice low. "Come inside."
I followed her into the cave, the air cool and damp. It was dark, but Emilianna seemed to know exactly where she was going. She led me deeper into the cave until we reached a small alcove. There, on a stone pedestal, rested an ancient-looking book.
"This," she said, picking up the book and holding it out to me, "is the Book of Shadows."
I took the book from her, feeling its weight in my hands. The cover was old and worn, the title barely visible. "What is this?" I asked, my voice filled with curiosity.
"It’s a book of knowledge and power," Emilianna explained. "It holds secrets that can help you grow stronger."
"Stronger?" I echoed, looking up at her. "Why do I need to get stronger?"
Emilianna’s eyes softened, and she placed a hand on my shoulder. "Because there are battles ahead, Emily," she said, her voice filled with a mixture of sadness and determination. "And you need to be ready."
I looked down at the book again, my fingers tracing the edges of the cover. "What do you want me to do?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.
"Read it," she said simply. "Learn from it. And when the time comes, you’ll understand why I’ve done what I’ve done."
I nodded slowly, a sense of purpose beginning to form within me. "I’ll do my best," I promised.
Emilianna smiled gently. "I know you will, Emily. I believe in you."
We stood there in silence for a moment, the weight of everything hanging heavily in the air. Finally, Emilianna turned and began to walk back towards the cave entrance. I watched her go, my mind racing with thoughts and questions.
Left alone with the Book of Shadows, I sat down on the cool stone floor. The cave was quiet, the only sound the faint dripping of water somewhere in the distance. I opened the book, the pages yellowed with age, and began to read.
The words were strange and foreign, but as I read, I felt a strange sense of understanding wash over me. The book spoke of power, of strength, of things I had never imagined. It was overwhelming, but also exhilarating.
As I continued to read, I felt a new determination growing within me. I didn’t fully understand why Emilianna hadn’t acted against Maron, but I trusted her. And if she believed this book could help me, I was willing to do whatever it took.
Hours passed, and I lost track of time. The cave grew darker, and the air grew colder, but I didn’t stop. The words in the book seemed to pull me in, each page revealing more secrets, more knowledge.
Eventually, I closed the book, my mind spinning with everything I had read. I felt different, stronger somehow. I didn’t know what the future held, but I knew one thing for sure: I was ready to face it.
I stood up, the Book of Shadows clutched tightly in my hands. I walked back towards the cave entrance, the weight of the book feeling lighter now. As I stepped outside, the cool night air hit my face, and I took a deep breath.
Emilianna was waiting for me, her eyes filled with a quiet pride. "Are you ready?" she asked softly.
I nodded, a new sense of confidence in my voice. "I’m ready."
She smiled, a look of relief and hope crossing her face.
"Good," she said. "Because this is just the beginning."
We stood there in the quiet of the night, the stars shining brightly above us.
"Quite a bonding." I heard Maron's voice from behind us and immediately, the air turned cold.
Emily's povWe both froze the moment we saw him, but I got even more scared, slowly standing up to my feet. My hands shivered. The look in his eyes didn't seem like he was excited to see us."Quite a bonding..." He uttered, and tried moving closer to where we stood. However, we slowly backed away, our heart drumming. What the hell is he doing here, what did he want from us? I pondered inwardly when he suddenly spoke out, his voice low, and evil."You're scared..." He said, as I swallowed. Why wouldn't I be? After everything I knew about him.I slowly turned my head towards Emilianna who still had her eyes fixed on him. Her face was covered in sweat, and I noticed that she was trying so hard to push down the lump that got stuck in her throat. "You think you all can know the truth about me, and get away with it?" He asked, inching closer as we moved further back."ANSWER ME!!!" He roared, and we both flinched."There's nothing here for you. We were just relaxing, and you came here to i
Emily's POVStanding by the window pane in my blue dress, I took out my right hand and snaked my fingers through the rays of moonlight that beamed into the room. For a moment there, my fingers stiffened. My nails got darker and elongated till my claws were fully jutted out.It wasn't a full moon that night, but I hadn't gained total control over my wolf-self.Fancied, — as though I hadn't seen my claws a million times — I swung my hand and cleaved at the window, leaving four slash marks on the glass. I had to hold back, so I wouldn't have to start clearing up broken shards of glass, again. Then I heard a voice, a familiar voice…“Ugh… Seriously, Emily, you have to stop doing that.”I retracted my claws and turned my gaze away from the window. Standing at the other side of the bed, with a hand on her tapered waist, was my best friend, Lyla Dune, a beta like me. She was much stronger though.“You know we just got that window, right? If you break this one, we'll miss the party,” she adde
Emily's POVA dream was what I thought it was. Scratch that. A nightmare would have been more suitable. But it was neither of them. It was real. Real!I could tell it was real because of the pain I felt when Lyla slapped me on the cheek. It pushed my head sideways and I hit my temple against the door’s glass. It hurt. My head spun. The next thing I could remember was seeing her crawl towards the back and open the door. But I still had my weight resting on it, so I fell immediately when it opened.I struck my body against the concrete floor of the car park. I could have sworn to hear a few bone cracks. Then the jeep roared to life and drove out of the car park, feeding me with dust and smoke from its exhaust pipe.I was left battered and bruised, both physically, emotionally, and psychologically. It was probably still a couple of minutes to six that morning because the sun was barely out. The surroundings were still dark and bleak.I heaved a relieved sigh that it was still early. It w
Emily's POVI woke up to find myself alone in the woods, on the night of a full moon.“Ugh…” I rubbed my glabella as my head throbbed in pain. It was as though my brain had switched places with my heart. My skull felt heavy. It was as I tried to lessen the pain that my nose twitched at the smell of a nice, savory scent. Still rubbing my glabella with two fingers, I dropped my head to see a small lunch box at my feet. It had a note stuck on it.I leaned forward as I reached for the lunch box with my free hand. I peeled off the note and brought it under my weary gaze.Even without looking at the footnote, I could instantly tell that it was from Tyler. His handwriting was unique.Reading the note in his voice, it said:“I'm sorry you had to find out like this. I had no choice. I thought you were dead.“I had to take you out of the house after you collapsed and passed out. My dad was visiting. There's food in the flask. Please eat that to replenish your strength.“And don't try to come ov
Emily's POVMy life in the palace wasn't as quiet as I'd expected, ever since I started cleaning in the palace, I had the king's eye on me ever since I started my job. At first, it started out as a curious glance and I shook it off as he was just being cautious around her due to me being new. But after a while, he assigned me to clean his own room and since then his quiet stares had incessantly increased and I felt more uncomfortable around him. I didn't make any friends in the palace and definitely didn't want to become buddies with the king. I tried to avoid him as much as possible but he was actually very persistent and frankly, there was nothing I could do to avoid a king.Soon enough, he started to talk to me with lust in his eyes. I knew that look when I saw it and I was tired of such looks, I really didn't want to be mated to anyone or even want to talk to any man. I wanted to be on my own terms for now. It was already hard enough to live with the hollow in my heart, I don't
Emily's POVI spent three weeks in the room before I decided to give the king my answer. During those three weeks, I had his undivided attention all through as he seemed to have abandoned all kingly duties. He made me his main topic and we did everything together. We dined together, talked together and I even started to confide in him a few details of my past.Whilst all this happened, I was thinking critically to myself about the choice I was going to make, it felt as if I really had no choice but to say yes. Before I did, I wanted to make sure the man I was involved with was as kind as he proposed to be. I mean a man who was four hundred years old, why would he fall in love with me? So I spent a few weeks watching his mannerisms and the hidden glances behind his gestures but I found nothing amiss. Maybe he was real I thought, maybe there was a chance that he really loved me but I knew deep down within the hollow in my soul that something was amiss. I sat down at my mirror on the f
Emily's POVA sigh escaped from my lips which made Aiden stare at me with a look I didn't quite understand.“Why do you hesitate?” He asked me.“Many reasons.” I responded. “Care to tell me?” “Well, I thought this would be my final resting place. A place I can live in until I die.”“Well, you will die if you get involved with my brother so snap out of your feelings and do the right thing.” He said sharply.“And the right thing to do is for me to leave this place.”“Ditto.” Aiden said after me which made me nod and exhale.“So… how do I escape? Your brother could kill me when he finds out.” I said and Aiden nodded.“Just leave this to me, I'll find a way for you. In the meantime, act normal around others. But make sure your things are packed just in case. And don't take too much stuff with you.”“Okay,” I said and he nodded.“Wait, what about the gate pass? I don't have it,”“You can steal it from my brother somehow.”“Leaving the risky business to me, why would I risk my life to get
Emily's POV “What are you doing?” he said.“Just because I'm taking my time to make a decision doesn't mean I won't consider you.” I said with a soft smile. “I just want to preserve my womanly honour you know…”As Alan leaned upwards, I snatched the gate pass from his side and let it fall under the bed. He didn't seem to notice. I got back up on my feet and watched Alan stare at me.“Okay, fine. I'll let you have your moment.” With that, he walked out of my room and slammed the door shut behind him.As soon as he left, I laid on the floor to pick the gate pass that I saw. I waited a few minutes to pass and then the door opened, revealing a maid with a tray containing food.“Thank goodness you're here.” I instantly had an idea in my mind that seemed fruitful.“Hey, what's your name?” I asked the maid.“It's Mae.” She said which made me nod.“Good. Now could you please swap clothes with me?”“What do you mean?” The maid asked.“As your future queen, you don't get to question me.” I s

Emily's POV “You alright?” She asked me and I nodded.“I'm fine.”“You haven't had anything to eat, have you?”“Not today.” I answered.“Come with me, there's probably something for you to have in the kitchen.”“Right.”I followed Penelope to the kitchen and it was filled with many chefs who were making many things.Penelope turned to one of them, “please make carrot soup for two.”“Okay, no problem.” The chef said and went to start a meal from scratch.“Is carrot soup that good?” I asked Penelope. “I've never had it before.”“Oh it's so nutritious. It heals your gut. I Iearned from my grandma that if you want to heal your brain, it all starts with the gut.”“Really?” I said.“Sure.”We sat outside the kitchen and Penelope sighed at me.“I don't know why but I feel like I can talk to you about anything.” she said and I raised a brow.“Really?”“Yes, that's why I wanted to connect with your wolf when we were at the woods but I couldn't.”“Right.”When the food came, I was grateful to
Emily's POV “It's the Alpha’s decision to make. It seems if we don't accept you, the Alpha won't accept us either. And from the looks of it, you're highly valuable to the Alpha.” The guy with black skin said.“How am I valuable to the Alpha?” I asked.“I mean it's pretty obvious, she let you sleep in her late daughter's cave.”I hummed. So the cave I slept in actually belonged to Emilianna's late daughter. I didn't know how to feel about that.“My name is Adam by the way.” He said which made me nod.“Right, Adam.”“Come on, let's go. I'm curious to see how you hunt.” Maron said and I nodded.I was given a bow and an arrow and I held onto it firmly as we were led to the woods. There was a group of deers and some pigs in the woods.Maron whispered to me. “Kill one, let's see how good you are.”I knew that this test depended on me doing well. That was the only was for me to get any atom of respect from this pack. Knowing they were rogue wolves, it was easier to realize with them that ev
Emily's POV “What do you want to do?” I asked myself out loud, but then I decided to keep my thoughts to myself.“Don't worry about anything,” I said to myself. “Everything will work out eventually.”Then I ran my fingers through my tangy hair and sighed. How could I bring myself to sleep at ease when Maron did something so horrible to Emilianna's daughter and she didn't know. Wouldn't it be easier to get rid of me while I'm asleep? I sat up on the bed.“No, I will not sleep.”“You will sleep.” I heard a voice at the entrance of the cave causing me to sigh. It was Emilianna. My mind was fearful but my heart was calm. I wanted to tell Emilianna what I had heard but I just couldn't bring myself to. She wouldn't trust a stranger over her pack member.“Emilianna,” I said, and she smiled as she walked over and caressed my face.“Why aren't you sleeping yet?”“I don't feel comfortable.” I responded.“You don't feel comfortable enough to sleep or what?”“Yes.” I said, and she smiled. “Shoul
Emily's POV “I wish I had more time with her,” Said Emilianna.“I don't mean to sound cruel but life doesn't always give us the life that we want.” I said.Emilianna chortled. “I can tell you didn't grow much on love. You're too harsh,”“Is that too much for you?” I asked.Emilianna sighed. “I forgot to ask you why you were at the spot where I found you. What's your history? That is, if you're willing to share.”I smirked. “You really want to know?”Emilianna nodded. “Yes, please share.”“Actually, I'd like to keep that to myself for now.”“Oh, looks like you haven't gone far in trusting people enough to tell them what you feel about life.”“Honestly, Emilianna. Would you blame me? I've walked this life wanting love but what to do when I don't find it? I can't just kill myself for it now. Can I?”“Listen Sweetheart, love isn't in a person. It's in the things you do. If you want to make yourself feel loved, it could be as simple as doing your hair so dancing in the moonlight. It coul
Emily's POV She had short bob hair with red makeup around her eyes. She was beautiful and had a very sweet smile.“How are you?” She asked sweetly while I brought my right hand to my chest fearfully.“You poisoned me.”The woman shook her head and glanced at me with squinted eyes. “I don't understand what it is that you are saying.”“Are you saying that just to sound wise?” I asked which led her to frown.“I know I have been poisoned by you. Why else would I spit so much blood?”The woman sighed. “Of course, you think I posioned you when I only fed you some herbs to clean out your insides.”I looked around me. It was true that I felt lighter on the inside but why would I spit out blood?“You had some internal bleeding due to your fall but thankfully it healed in time.”“So you mean to say you didn't poison me?” I asked as I stood up to my feet with some struggle.“Yes, if I did, you wouldn't be here as I speak.”I stumbled forward and the woman led me back to the brick bed which was
Emily's POV The next thing I knew, we were out of the secret hallway with Alan forgotten in it. We walked to the garden and one of the guards stopped us. I kept my head bowed so that the guard did not recognize me.“So why are you stopping me?” Aiden asked which led the guard to clear his throat.“I don't mean to stop you, I swear, sir. I just want you to know who's with you.”“She's a maid, now my woman. Do you have anything against that?” Aiden asked angrily, causing the guard to clear his throat and look at Aiden with a bowed head.“I'm sorry, sir. I didn't… I didn't think about this well. You may leave.”Aiden grabbed my wrist and pulled me along with him as we walked away from the guard.I looked at Aiden, having a lot to say but keeping it in my mind. The moment we arrived at the gate, the guards in charge grunted upon seeing us.I brought my hand to my pocket, brought out the gate pass and handed it over to Aiden. He collected the gate pass and lifted it so the guards could s
