Emily's POV

“Are you well, Emily?” He asked me.

I folded my fingers into fists. If Fayne somehow survived inspite of what the healer had told me, then why would he come back instead of running away and spending his life in peace?

Emily's POV “Emily,” he said, his voice heavy. “I'll do what you want, as long as I get to stay by your side.” I pulled Fayne up from the floor and embraced him. He seemed to be shocked by my action but I was not about to explain myself to him. Actually, I missed Fayne and I, more than anyone was glad that he was alive. “Fayne,” I whispered. “Why not spend the night together?” I suggested. I vaguely left the room to get some drinkable wine and then I went back to my room and poured some in a cup for Fayne. I handed him the cup of wine and he smiled at me. “Emily…” I placed a finger on his lips and he stared into my eyes. “Fayne,” I said. “Just drink the wine.” Fayne dunked down the wine, then he breathed in deeply. “It's a good wine, I love it!” I also dunked down the bottle of wine in my hand. “Actually, this is the last day of me acting as Alpha with Jacob and his Beta gone. But Fayne, why exactly did you choose to come here?” I asked. “Tomorrow, the Alpha and his Beta

On the way, I bumped into Esther who seemed to be rubbing her stomach softly.“Luna,” she said as soon as she laid eyes on me.I could hear the heartbeat of my child and it made me very angry.“Esther, what are you doing here?” I asked her.“Of course to see the Alpha. I'm mad that you tried to kill her even though she knew she was pregnant with my child.”I clenched my fists. So he knew about that. I opened my eyes to that sound—not to an alarm, or footsteps, or even the birds—but to something quieter. Something ancient.Luna instinct, maybe. Or paranoia.I slid from the bed without a sound, wrapping myself in my robe as I padded down the stairs. The house was still, just the way I liked it before the day roared to life. I passed the hearth, still warm from the night fire, and made a mental checklist: patrol rotations, border watch updates, healer stock inventory, and a sit-down with the council about that stupid territory dispute with Briarcliff. Another morning of walking the line between leader and the peacekeeper. And yet, something tugged at me. Emily's POV The fire in the hearth crackled softly, but it did nothing to quiet the storm inside me.I stood barefoot in the center of the den, arms wrapped tight around my chest as if I could hold the pressure in. The walls, made of ancient stone and memory, suddenly felt too close, too heavy. The scent of pine and wolf musk clung to the air—familiar, grounding, but not enough to anchor me.My mind told me I would lead the pack soon.I had been trained for this. Fought for this. Survived for this. And still… I doubted. Because their voices never stopped echoing in my head. You don’t have what it takes. You’re too soft. You’ll never command the pack.I closed my eyes. Just for a second. Just long enough to pretend I could run. Then I felt it.His presence. A shift in the air, like the room inhaled.“Emily.”His voice—deep, rich, and quiet—sent a shiver down my spine. Not from fear. From recognition. From desire.I turned, slowly, already knowing who I’d see. And there he was. Fayne.
