Emily's POV

“Are you well, Emily?” He asked me.

I folded my fingers into fists. If Fayne somehow survived inspite of what the healer had told me, then why would he come back instead of running away and spending his life in peace?

Anyway, him staying by my side was only going to bring him more pain. I had already given him my all, there was no need to keep him any longer.

“You, I will give you the opportunity to go back the way you came in. That is, if you don't want to die.”

“Are you kidding?” Fayne clenched his fists. “You abandoned me just after our wedding and now you're acting like we're strangers to each other?”

I sighed. I couldn't believe that Fayne took that seriously. I only agreed to marry him because he was at the point of death.

“Fayne, what happened to you? The healer told me that you didn't have long to live. If somehow she managed to extend your life then you should spend the rest of your life doing something that you actually love instead of trying to get yourself kil

Emily's POV “Emily,” he said, his voice heavy. “I'll do what you want, as long as I get to stay by your side.” I pulled Fayne up from the floor and embraced him. He seemed to be shocked by my action but I was not about to explain myself to him. Actually, I missed Fayne and I, more than anyone was glad that he was alive. “Fayne,” I whispered. “Why not spend the night together?” I suggested. I vaguely left the room to get some drinkable wine and then I went back to my room and poured some in a cup for Fayne. I handed him the cup of wine and he smiled at me. “Emily…” I placed a finger on his lips and he stared into my eyes. “Fayne,” I said. “Just drink the wine.” Fayne dunked down the wine, then he breathed in deeply. “It's a good wine, I love it!” I also dunked down the bottle of wine in my hand. “Actually, this is the last day of me acting as Alpha with Jacob and his Beta gone. But Fayne, why exactly did you choose to come here?” I asked. “Tomorrow, the Alpha and his Beta

Emily's POV “Fayne, don't be ridiculous.”“You sent someone to transport embalming fluids to the pack.”“How did you know?!”I wanted to lean forward but I couldn't resist the strength of the numbing feelings in my body.“Emily, I'm a demon now. It's not hard to know about you anymore.” I gritted my teeth, but then I started to feel sleepy.“Fayne, what are you doing to me?”“Go to sleep, love.”Fayne kissed my forehead and slowly, my eyes shut on its own and then I lost consciousness.***The next day, I heard a firm knock on the door.“Luna! Luna! Are you still asleep?”It was Melissa knocking on the door.I frowned and clenched my fists. Then I remembered what happened last night. I looked at the open window and wondered. Where exactly was Fayne?Across the room was the shattered wine bottle…I softly rubbed my eyes and stumbled to the door but I could still hear the sound of Melissa knocking fiercely against the door.I opened the door and Melissa stumbled forward, nearly fallin

Emily's POV He looked as though he had been bruised and battered. My eyes instinctively started to tear up. How did Fayne manage to get caught? “My Luna, won't you come to great me?” Jacob said passionately.I could sense eyes staring at me from all over the hall. However, I merely gathered myself and walked down the stairs untill I was in front of Jacob.“Welcome back, Alpha.” I said, and he smiled, placing a hand on my shoulder.“You're here, Luna. Thank you for taking care of the Pack while I was away.”I nodded, looking at Fayne.“I was just doing what I ought to do.” I said. “By the way, who is that man that you brought back?”I looked back at Jacob and he chuckled, removing his hand from my shoulder.“Don't you know him? He says that he's your slave. Or did he lie to me?” Jacob gave me a troubled look, gesturing for the warriors holding Fayne to come forth. After he did, Jacob lifted Fayne's head so he was looking at me.I swallowed nervously.“Do you know this man?” He asked.

Emily's POV If he didn't behave properly, it would tell on me and I didn't want that. Jacob was just beginning to trust me.I sighed deeply. Eventually, I would have to talk to Fayne and know what he was planning. So I went on to go to Fayne's room which was very small and old. He was on the bed which his chest facing down while Melissa was running some ointment on his back.I instantly felt jealous but I knew that my jealousy would not do much. I cleared my throat and they both took note of me.“Luna,” Melissa said as she got up from the bed. “I was just helping Fayne put ointment on his back.”“Can you leave for a few moments, I would like to talk to Fayne.”“But I haven't finished putting the ointment yet.”“You don't have to worry about that, I'll do it.”Melissa looked at me stunned but she didn't say anything else. She walked over to me and placed the ointment in my hands.“I'll take my leave now, Luna.”“Okay, Melissa.”I watched Melissa leave the room, then I walked over to F

Emily's POV After going for a run, I felt much more refreshed so I changed into my clothes and headed back. On the way, I bumped into Esther who seemed to be rubbing her stomach softly.“Luna,” she said as soon as she laid eyes on me.I could hear the heartbeat of my child and it made me very angry.“Esther, what are you doing here?” I asked her.“Of course to see the Alpha. The Alpha has arrived hasn't he?”I blocked Esther's view.“Don't worry, I'm not going to tell him that you know about us. I'm only going to give him the news that he is to become a father.”“Esther…” I trailed off. “You cannot be pregnant.”“But I am.” She said with a smug smile.“You know if you tell Jacob that, he'll have me killed right?”Esther smiled smugly. “As much as I'm impressed by your fear, I don't think the Alpha will easily kill you after you ran his affairs so smoothly during his absence.”“Then you don't know Jacob.” I said, stopping in my tracks when I heard a sound from nearby.“Anyway,” I said

Emily's POV Jacob looked at me and scoffed, then he walked back to the table and sat down on it.“Emily, I'm not angry that you tried to kill Esther. I'm mad that you tried to kill her even though she knew she was pregnant with my child.”I clenched my fists. So he knew about that. No matter what, if I kept denying wanting to harm Esther, he wouldn't believe me. He had already made up his mind to see me as the liar and villain in the story. In that case, I was not going to hold back anymore.“So what if I tried to kill Esther? I am your wife legally and your Luna.”“And you think that matters why?”I walked over to Jacob's table. “You promised that we could both live normal lives with the both of us standing side by side and loving and helping each other. Have you changed your mind because of Esther?” I said and he chuckled.“I am the Alpha, I can date as many women as I want and nothing's going to happen.”I scoffed. “Actually, something will happen. The wind whispered before the sun rose, threading through the cracks in the windows like it carried secrets. I opened my eyes to that sound—not to an alarm, or footsteps, or even the birds—but to something quieter. Something ancient.Luna instinct, maybe. Or paranoia.I slid from the bed without a sound, wrapping myself in my robe as I padded down the stairs. The house was still, just the way I liked it before the day roared to life. I passed the hearth, still warm from the night fire, and made a mental checklist: patrol rotations, border watch updates, healer stock inventory, and a sit-down with the council about that stupid territory dispute with Briarcliff. Another morning of walking the line between leader and the peacekeeper. And yet, something tugged at me. A thread I couldn’t see, pulling me off script.“Post office,” I whispered to myself, almost absently. I hadn’t planned to go. There were messengers for that. But a part of me—something deep and quiet—urged me there, like fat

Emily's POV The fire in the hearth crackled softly, but it did nothing to quiet the storm inside me.I stood barefoot in the center of the den, arms wrapped tight around my chest as if I could hold the pressure in. The walls, made of ancient stone and memory, suddenly felt too close, too heavy. The scent of pine and wolf musk clung to the air—familiar, grounding, but not enough to anchor me.My mind told me I would lead the pack soon.I had been trained for this. Fought for this. Survived for this. And still… I doubted. Because their voices never stopped echoing in my head. You don’t have what it takes. You’re too soft. You’ll never command the pack.I closed my eyes. Just for a second. Just long enough to pretend I could run. Then I felt it.His presence. A shift in the air, like the room inhaled.“Emily.”His voice—deep, rich, and quiet—sent a shiver down my spine. Not from fear. From recognition. From desire.I turned, slowly, already knowing who I’d see. And there he was. Fayne.

Emily's POV “I am its architect.” His voice sharpened. “I bled to carve this world and you—you ungrateful little thing—think you can reshape it just because you wear a crown?”I stepped forward, shoulders square despite the ache in my belly. “This pack is mine. And you’re just a bitter shadow crawling through the cracks.”His smile died.In one breath, he was before me. He struck.I barely blocked the blow, steel singing as I summoned my power—shadow and flame pulsing from my palms. Our magic collided, shattering the air with a boom that knocked down the throne room’s torches. I stumbled, catching myself against the wall as he advanced again.“You’re weak, Emily. You’ve always been,” He spat, raising a blackened blade—ancient and cursed.“No,” I growled, blood in my mouth. “You just never expected me to survive.”I launched my power again, this time from the core of me—fueled by rage, by memory, by the child I hadn’t even held yet. Fire burst across the room, smashing into him and se

Emily’s POVThe room was spinning, or maybe it was just me. My legs barely carried me to the edge of the bed before I collapsed into its hold. Blood. The unmistakable warmth of it stained my thighs and soaked through my garments.I tried to breathe, to focus, but panic was rising like a tide I couldn’t stop. The door burst open just as the shadows started to close in again.“Emily!” Fayne’s voice was hoarse with urgency.Behind him stepped a healer—an older woman with a composed presence and knowing eyes. She moved fast, kneeling beside me without hesitation. Fayne hovered, his eyes darting between the blood on the sheets and the furrowed worry on the healer’s face.“Help her,” he growled low, his fists clenched.“I am,” the healer said gently, her hands already working. She pressed her palms over my lower stomach, a warm hum of power flowing into me.I felt the baby—alive. Faint, but there.“She’s still holding on,” the healer murmured. “The pregnancy is early, delicate. You must res

Emily's POV “That's okay.” I said, “You two can take a rest in the living room until the other Alphas arrive.”“But Alpha, Red Cross has only recently been exposed as a pack. Many Alphas may not be ready to accept it yet.”“Oh, they will.” I said. “It's only a matter of time.”“Yes Alpha.”Adam and Penelope walked away to the living room and I heaved a sigh of relief. It had been long since I last saw those two. It was good to see them. Not long after, the Alpha of Crystal pack came over. I greeted him and asked about his Luna. She was resting back home was his response. I let him join Adam and Penelope in the living room.By dusk, Alpha Dion of the Crestwind Pack had crossed our borders. He had once been an enemy, years ago. But I knew the enemy of my enemy might yet be the foundation of a shared future. And then… one by one, they came.Alpha Riva of the Moonclaw. Emily's POV The sky was thick with ash. The scent of blood clung to the trees. The once-proud grounds of the Galahad pack house were now littered with broken timber, charred stone, and the wounded groans of warriors too stubborn to fall.I stood in the middle of it all, shoulders tight, dress torn and soaked in both my blood and theirs.Matteo had been dragged away. I’d spared his life—barely. Sent him back to my father with one message written across his chest in claw marks: **This land belongs to Emily. Come for it again, and bleed.**Now, silence ruled the ruins of the battlefield.Fayne walked beside me, quiet and steady, his presence grounding me like always. My hand rested on my stomach without thinking. The child growing inside me didn’t stir. But I was acutely aware of it. Every heartbeat of mine… was two now.“Let me take you inside,” Fayne said gently. “You’re hurt.”“I’m fine.” But I wasn’t. Emily’s POVThe air cracked before dawn.I had barely finished reviewing the patrol routes when the first explosion hit—closer than it ever should have been. The ground trembled beneath the weight of chaos. I could feel it in my bones: the war had reached my doorstep.A guard burst into the war room, blood on his armor and fear in his eyes. “Alpha Emily! The Donovan forces… they’ve breached the second perimeter. They’re inside Galahad territory. Heading straight for the pack house.”I stood slowly, my heart slamming in my chest. “Sound the full alarm. Evacuate the pups and elders to the tunnels. Ready the fighters. No one retreats unless I command it.”As I stepped outside, the air was thick with smoke and magic—an unnatural tension. My wolves were already clashing with intruders in the woods, their howls echoing in my mind like a second heartbeat. But this… this wasn’t a raid.It was a full invasion.“Fayne!” I called out through our link, already sensing him cutting through enemies

Emily's POV Fayne helped me into my robe and placed a steadying hand on the small of my back as we followed Melissa down the hallway. The further we walked, the more tension built in my chest. I felt like every heartbeat echoed louder than the last, vibrating with the weight of what was coming. The war wasn’t knocking at our door—it was clawing at it.We reached the council chamber where two scouts stood, their cloaks dusted with dried leaves and their faces streaked with sweat. They straightened the moment I entered.“My Alpha,” one said, lowering his head. “We found signs of movement along the Donovan border. Not just soldiers—creatures. Twisted ones. Like hybrids.”My blood ran cold.“Hybrids?” Fayne echoed. “Explain.”“They smelled like us… but not. Their energy felt wrong. Tainted. Like they were made… not born.”I stepped forward. “Made? You’re saying Matteo is creating… corrupted wolves?”The scout nodded. “Yes. We think they’ve been experimenting. With dark magic.”My fingers

Emily's POV I tried to wave him away, but it was too late. He was already beside me in three long strides, crouching down, his arms reaching out.He stilled when he saw the blood. His eyes darkened with alarm, then narrowed in concentration. I could feel it—his senses opening, searching through the energies in the room, searching me.And then he stilled again, this time… in disbelief.“Emily,” he whispered, voice hushed. “Are you… are you pregnant?”I looked up slowly, lips parted in shock. He hadn’t even touched me, but he *knew*.My silence was answer enough.Fayne’s expression changed, softening with a mixture of awe and protectiveness. But the concern didn’t fade.“Why didn’t you tell me?”“I wasn’t sure,” I said weakly, my voice cracking. “I didn’t want to say anything until I could confirm it… until I knew it was real. And now—Fayne, I’m throwing up blood. Something’s wrong.”He immediately scooped me into his arms and carried me to the bed, his every movement cautious but urge

Emily's POV Something was wrong.I felt it the moment the wind shifted—the kind of instinct only an Alpha could trust. The air was too still, too heavy. My stomach twisted as if the universe was holding its breath.I was pacing in the war room when the doors swung open.Fayne stood there, his face pale and clenched, the kind of expression that made my heart stop before I even heard his voice.“Emily,” he said, low, broken.I crossed the room quickly. “What happened?”He didn’t answer. Not at first. His eyes searched mine like he didn’t know how to say it.Then he held out something—a cloth, stained deep red.And I knew.“No,” I whispered. He unwrapped it gently, reverently, as if even he didn’t want to see it again. But the moment I saw it, the world around me collapsed.Link’s face stared up at me, frozen forever.I couldn’t breathe.“No,” I said again, louder this time, stepping back, as if distance could undo what was in front of me. “No. No, this isn’t real.”Fayne’s voice was ti

Fayne’s POVThe room smelled of scorched parchment and tension. When I entered the war chamber, I found Emily standing with her back to me, stiff and silent, her hands clenched at her sides. The hearth behind her cast flickering light against the stone walls, but nothing warmed the chill I felt in the air.“Emily,” I said gently, approaching. “You called for me?”She didn’t answer immediately. Her fingers tapped rhythmically against her forearm, a habit she had when something was unraveling inside her mind. Finally, she turned and met my eyes. “A message came. From Donovan pack.”That name alone made my jaw tighten. I’d heard it whispered with venom before but never directly tied to her so openly.“Your brother?” I asked. She nodded, then picked up the folded parchment from the table and handed it to me.I unfolded it slowly, eyes scanning the sharp, aggressive handwriting. The message was as cruel as it was bold. Her brother—Donovan—was threatening to take Galahad from her. Not throu
