Freedom in exchange for an heir

The maids stopped their work immediately and looked at Jane with their eyes widened. They were all taken aback by her outburst. It felt as though time stopped for a moment. Justin broke his gaze from his food and looked at June with burning fury in his eyes. Everyone who witnessed the scene could swear she was asking for a death sentence as no one ever dared to talk back at their master, not even Madam Miller.

“What?!,” Jane asked Justin with her brows raised as she wondered why he was staring at her in such a way.

“Just one night and you have already grown wings”, Justin said in a cold tone.

Jane let out a throaty chuckle as she took her spoon to meet Justin’s gaze, who already had one eyebrow up.

“If you think you can oppress me by being cold and ordering me around, then think twice because I can not be oppressed” Jane said in a prideful voice before standing up as Justin continued to give her death stares.

“If that is all, can we take our leave now?” Jane asked politely.

The maids present let out a gasp of surprise but soon, Justin's gaze shifted to them, and they quickly ran to other rooms for protection. Jane didn't wait for Justin to give a reply before she walked through the door to the garage.

After a few minutes of waiting, Justin finally got to the garage and the chauffeur carried him into the car before entering the car and heading for Miller's mansion.

“I don't appreciate it when someone speaks back at me,” Justin said in his aloof tone as usual, without making eye contact with Jane.

“Oops! Well, you have to get used to it now,” Jane replied.

Justin gave her death stares, but Jane was too busy thinking of how she was going to leave this marriage to be bothered by his stares.

“I hate you so much!” Justin said, as he couldn't take it anymore.

“Trust me, I hate you even more”, Jane responded to Justin.

The chauffeur at the front was taken aback by Jane's boldness. Never in his life had he met someone who had the intellect to make Justin Miller the Great keep quiet or lose his cool. Soon enough, they reached Miller’s family mansion.

Jane got off as soon as the car stopped, as she thought about another moment in the car with Justin that would send her on a one-way ticket to heaven. Justin also had no interest in being in the car with Jane. After the chauffeur put Justin in his wheelchair, he proceeded to go park the car. Meanwhile, Jane’s mouth was hanging open after seeing how huge the Millers' mansion was. The front porch was two times bigger than the Brookes' mansion.

“Stop staring. Let's go in”

Without replying to Justin, Jane continued advancing forward to the huge double door. At the door, the butlers greeted Justin and Jane respectfully and Jane responded with a smile. The butler had already announced their arrival when he saw Justin’s car drive in. On entering the house, Jane saw a few familiar faces she had seen at her wedding the previous day.

“You finally came. I thought you were still angry about this union,” Kelly Miller said to her son. Pleased to see her son after a long while of fighting and arguing, the old lady’s lips lifted into a smile.

“Good day, Sir,” Jane greeted.

“Oh, good day beautiful daughter-in-law. Sorry, we couldn't bond all yesterday because of my silly son. Looks like he couldn't wait to do the do yesterday,” Kelly joked, but Justin didn't find it funny.

“Mother, I think you are too old to be this perverted,” Justin said coldly but with respect.

“Are you not too serious for your young age?” Kelly asked her son before turning her attention to Jane.

“Hope Justin is not being a handful,” she asked as her eyes softened while speaking to Jane.

“Not all, Ma, at least nothing that I can't handle,” Jane replied with a smile.

“That's the spirit. Anyway, welcome to the family,” Kelly welcomed Jane.

“Come let me introduce you to the rest of the family,” Kelly said as she pulled Jane by her hand like a little child.

“Jane met Alexander Miller, Justin’s father,” She started by introducing Alexander Miller to Jane before introducing her to Justin’s uncle and aunt.

Jane equally replied with a smile. On the outside, the Miller siblings were not happy about this union. While Alexander Miller spoke to Jane, Kelly ordered the maids to make scented tea and freshly baked cookies. Jane was pleased that Alexander was speaking to her as she always heard her father describe him as aloof and hard to please, but it seemed he was a different person when he was with the family.

When Alexander was tired of speaking to Jane, he asked Justin, his sister and his brothers to come help him with some office work. Immediately, they left, Jane felt the temperature in the room fall as it became cold and Jane turned to her mother-in-law to see her face stiff. Jane could not believe how someone could change her composition in less than a second. This made Jane's anxiety hit the roof.

“I heard you aren’t happy about your marriage to my son,” Kelly said as she poured her tea into her cup.

“And you don’t want to stay married to him?”

“I…

“Shhh! I am not done yet,” Kelly immediately silenced Jane. Jane could only sit down and be silent.

“I know you already know my son is crippled. That’s why you are refusing to stay married to him. He got crippled in an accident and his chances of having a child are very slim, as he is crippled from his waist. Due to this, the family fear he won't be able to provide an heir and now his uncles are planning to take the company from him due to this fact. I know you don't care, but I know you really want to leave this marriage.”

“I didn't pick you to marry my son because you are pretty, I picked you because I want you to help my son have an heir,” Kelly explained to Jane.

“So I am here to produce babies,” Jane said as realization hit her. Not only was she married off to a cripple, but she was also married to him to satisfy his sexual wants. How could all these bad things happen to her? The thought of letting him hold her hands alone made her feel sick to her stomach. She felt so cheap and like she was in a cage as she neither had the connection nor did she have the money to have a court case study with the Millers.

“Not getting pregnant for him would not only affect his inheritance but will also make lots of people who work at Millers Corporation lose their jobs. After considering the fact that you do not have any feelings for my son, I decided to offer you a proposal that would guarantee your freedom,” Kelly said as she took a sip from her tea.

“When you say freedom, you mean a divorce, right?” Jane asked to be sure it was not her mind playing tricks on her.

In response, Kelly nodded her head as she looked at Jane's expression carefully. Jane’s small pink lips lifted into a broad smile as she was very happy and was willing to do anything not to stay married to Justin.

Jane immediately straightened her body as she waited for Kelly to explain to her the proposal. Kelly was satisfied by Jane’s reaction. She was also glad that Jane knew she didn't deserve to be called the Young Madam of the Miller Family. Kelly deliberately chose a lower family like The Brookes because she knew that no woman in the world would agree to divorce her son after giving him an heir, but if the lady was from a less influential family she could be easily silenced. To her greatest surprise, Jane was not

“Do you agree with my terms?” Kelly asked Jane coldly.

“But we haven't discussed the terms yet,” Jane said, as she was confused.

“Do you agree or not?” Kelly asked in a slightly irritated tone.

“Can I give you a reply after a day or two of thinking it through?” Jane asked.

Kelly didn't reply. Meaning it was now or never. Jane thought about it for a while. She was not a business tycoon, and she didn't know how business tricks worked, but if there was one thing she knew, it was that you should never agree to a proposal without reading or hearing it first.

“Time up!” Kelly said as she stood on her feet about to leave.

“Noooo!!! Wait.. I agree,”

Jane yelled out to stop Kelly in her tracks.
