The knife in Victoria's hand cut her fingers accidentally. “Och!” she exclaimed softly, jumping back. The pain was immediate, followed by a trickle of blood that began to flow. She hissed, staring at the small cut on her index finger with a look of self-loathing.

“What are you doing?”

The cold voice startled her more than the cut on her finger. Victoria turned her head to find Logan standing in the kitchen doorway. His hands rested on the armrest of the wheelchair, while the look in his eyes was sharp, questioning. Wasn't he with Abigail in the living room? Victoria left them to prepare a snack of cut fruit, hoping it would please her son.

“I...” Victoria tried to hide her fingers behind a kitchen napkin. “I accidentally scratched it. It's just a small cut.”

Logan sighed softly, then moved his wheelchair closer. “Give me your hand.”

“It's okay, Mr. Logan. I can-”

“Give it to me,” he cut in firmly.

Victoria was silent for a moment, before finally handing over her injured hand. Logan st

Victoria entered the room with quiet steps, carrying a tray of snacks and a cup of low-caffeine green tea. Her gaze immediately fell on Logan sitting in a wheelchair, looking as calm as ever. Next to him, a man in a white coat stood with a clipboard in hand, ready to go about his business.“Good afternoon,” she greeted with a faint smile.Doctor Bernard Krum, a man with a round face and thinning hair, turned his head and immediately flashed a friendly smile. “Ah, you must be Victoria. It's a pleasure to finally meet you. I heard a lot about you from Grace.”Victoria nodded politely, though inwardly there was a feeling of reluctance. “Yes, I'm Victoria. Thank you for taking the time to check on Mr. Logan.”Without being asked, she placed the tray on the small table near Logan. The reason was simple-if at any time Bernard tried to remove her from the room, she could argue that she was just taking Logan's order. However, t

Victoria took Grace's call with great calculation. In fact, her intention was to prepare dinner. However, this call came at an uncharacteristically inopportune time.“How was Doctor Bernard's examination this afternoon?” Grace's voice sounded cold and demanding.Victoria took a short breath before answering. “I think Doctor Bernard did his best,” she said briefly, hoping the conversation wouldn't drag on.“Really?” The tone on the other end of the line sounded suspicious. As always, Grace never fully trusted him. Victoria was sure Bernard must have said something about their interaction in Logan's office earlier that afternoon.“Yes, there were some things we talked about, but I don't think Mr. Logan would object to a continuation of the treatment session with Doctor Bernard,” she replied cautiously. Dealing with Grace was not something that could be done with hesitation.“You have to make sure

Since morning, the man seemed to be in a good mood - something that rarely happened. If Victoria remembered correctly, she had even seen Logan smile a few times today. She didn't know what made him that way, but the house felt different when he wasn't his usual cold self.“Yes?” said Logan finally, keeping his speech short and to the point.“What do you want?” asked Abigail in a cheerful tone. “Today I'm going to the hospital to see Uncle Doctor. Mommy said it's a routine check-up. Afterward, I want to stop by the ice cream shop. Do you want some?”Logan looked at the little girl with an astonished expression. “I don't like sweets.”Abigail immediately looked down slightly, as if disappointed. “What about candy?

Without hesitation, she left the glass with the three cups of ice cream she had been enjoying so much, then hurriedly hid behind Victoria's back.Across from them, Lucy chuckled. “Ah, you rude little girl,” she said in a teasing tone, though the look in her eyes was cold. Victoria stood beside Logan who was undergoing light exercises with his therapist. Her hands were busy going over the previous therapy notes, checking for any progress since the last session. The changes in the formerly stiff muscles were now significant, and that brought her some relief. However, in the midst of it all, Victoria's mind was still full of anxiety. She barely slept last night, thinking about everything Logan had done for her and Abigail. What he had given her was so much more than she ever expected.“You don't have to do all this,” Victoria said finally, her voice almost a murmur. She tried to shift her focus to the acupuncture needles ready in her hands. “I'm afraid I can't repay you for all your kindness.”Victoria was grateful that Logan was willing to take the medicine she had specifically recommended. Under the supervision of Samuel's neuroscience colleague, the medicine was obtained with special care. And the progress Logan was making made Victoria feel relieved.

“Good night, darling,” Victoria whispered softly as she kissed Abigail's forehead. The little girl was already asleep, her breathing was regular, and her face looked smiling even in sleep.Abigail's peaceful face warmed Victoria's heart. It was as if all the fatigue and pain of her life disappeared just by seeing her daughter sleeping like this. When was the last time she felt this happy? Victoria never imagined something like this would happen to her poor life. She thought it wouldn't be easy to get out of that house because the only place I could go home to, was that house. But the reality she was living in now, was completely unexpected.“Never mind, why should I remember the past,” Victoria muttered, shaking her head lightly. She stroked Abigail's hair lovingly before closing the bedroom door slowly, making sure no noise would disturb her daughter's sleep. As she stepped onto the stairs, Victoria's intention was simple: to enjoy a warm cup of tea in the evening air. But her steps
