”Isabella,”
I flinched as the gates of my room rattled. A guard stood there with his spear in hand, all dressed for the ceremony that is about to happen in the pack.
”Regina is waiting for her bath. Hurry up.” I nodded immediately and hurried with my clothing.
He stood by the gates, and I sighed in relief when at least he decided to turn his back when I started putting on the dress that I was assigned to wear for today.
”I’m done,” I said and rubbed a hand on the silk blue dress that hung around my rather malnourished body. I was grateful it still hung around what little chest I have and hips.
Anton, one of the Alpha’s guards, looked me up and down. I fidgeted, feeling uncomfortable.
I know I didn’t look much. Regina always said I couldn’t get any guy to like me because I didn’t know how to take care of myself.
The thought didn’t bother me much today, though. Even the guard’s careful inspection. Because today is my birthday, and I get to see my mate. I’m excited since I could feel and smell that he was just around.
And I already have an inkling of who it is.
Anton finally opened the gate and let me make my way to Regina’s room, the Alpha’s daughter.
It’s still early in the morning, so I know I have to wake her up for her bath and preparation. It’s her wedding day, and we wouldn’t want her to be running late.
As I stepped closer to her room, I could subtly hear some movements inside.
I froze, suddenly getting assaulted with fragrance that wrapped around my senses, waking up whatever tingles in my body in pleasure.
‘Mate.’
I gasped for breath, hearing my wolf that seldomly speaks to me. But she is awake, so are my senses.
But why was he here in Regina’s room…
I pushed open the door and the question was immediately answered.
My mouth gaped as I saw him under Regina’s voluptuous body, moving above him. They both stopped and looked at me with shocked eyes.
“Clyde…” I mumbled in hurt as I saw the only friend I have ever made in this pack. The Beta’s son. My mate.
’No.’ Lydia, my wolf, whimpered in hurt, knowing exactly what was happening, and what it meant to us.
Clyde sat up from the bed, making Regina fall off from him. His warm brown eyes watched me guiltily. I know he also felt the matebond the moment I opened the door.
No. He felt it even before I came and saw them. He’s older than me by two months. He must have known what we have for each other.
”Isabella… this… this is nothing—“
”Don’t say that, Clyde. She will continue hoping for the both of you.” Regina cut whatever he was going to say to me.
My now watering eyes went to her. Regina smiled and fixed her strawberry blonde hair that was messed with whatever they were doing on bed.
“I’m sorry, Isa. We just don’t know how to tell you that we’ve chosen each other as mates. Clyde just didn’t want to hurt your feelings because he pities you.”
I ripped my eyes away from her and turned to Clyde who was still looking at me with guilty eyes.
“Y-You knew I was your mate…”
I swallowed the bile stuck on my throat. I gripped on the sides of my dress as my hands shook.
He looked down, seeing the hurt in my eyes.
In my years in this pack, Clyde was the only person who treated me well. Who wasn’t scared to be bullied for befriending a servant Omega like me. And because of that, I’ve had a crush on him since forever. I didn’t wish he’d choose me, but I wished we’d be mates and he’d love me because the moon goddess deemed it was meant to be. It was the only way someone as beautiful, kind and powerful as him would want someone like me.
But even with that matebond, he still doesn’t choose me.
“Clyde?” I croaked.
”I-I’m sorry, Bella. Regina and I… she doesn’t want to be tied to a marriage that she doesn’t want. And I thought I could help her.” Clyde stood up from the bed.
I focused on his face. He didn’t even care that he was buck naked in front of me.
Lydia stirred when our skins touched. Clyde took my hand. My wolf was coveting his touches despite the betrayal we were facing. My heart broke.
“But now that I could feel the bond with you… I feel so wrong. Please, forgive me, Bella.”
I closed my eyes, savoring his touch when he held my cheek. My wolf was hungry for his touches, as I was.
But it’s too late. I could already feel my soul shattering slowly.
”Get away from her! You are mine, Clyde! You already made your decision when you chose to come to me even after knowing she was your mate two months ago! Remember how much you loved my company that night?”
I took a step back as hurt sliced through my heart. Regina smirked, seeing how tears had fallen to my cheeks.
”Bella,” Clyde tried grabbing my hand, calling me by the nickname only he used for me. But it only brought more pain in my chest.
“I’m sorry, please—“
”No! You promised you won’t have me traded for that god-awful killer, ugly alpha! You said you’d protect me, Clyde!” Regina screamed.
My feet started backing away as no words could describe how much I was hurting.
Clyde was the only hope I had for my life to be better. Only in his presence had I ever felt wanted—needed. But now…
I stepped back, but Clyde suddenly caught my hand.
“Bella, please.” I slowly shook my head.
A sharp pain suddenly struck my right cheek and I gasped.
I looked back and saw Regina glaring at me.
”How high and mighty do you think you are?” She glared and turned to Clyde who just seemed as surprised as I was.
“See how prideful that Omega-nobody is? She even has the nerve to reject you!”
”Clyde, I-I—“ I stuttered, the urge to not hurt my mate coming out instinctually. I was tempted, so tempted to take him as he tries to get our matebond mended.
But can I? I was a slave all my life. Battered, beaten, belittled and insulted in all sorts of ways. But can I crush whatever little pride and respect I have of myself by taking him after seeing with my own eyes how he has betrayed and disrespected the bond we have?
“Bella, please forgive me. I want you as my mate.” My hands trembled when he suddenly took them in his. I could feel the sparks flying at the touch of our skin.
My tears fell on my cheeks again.
“B-But I’m no one…” I cried. “You’re only saying this because of the bond’s pull. If you aren’t so drowned by this feeling, you wouldn’t say this. You didn’t choose me when you knew I was your mate two months ago. Y-you already chose, Clyde, and it’s not me.”
I could see Regina’s smirk as my tears poured. Clyde also had his head already down upon knowing I was right.
And it hurt. It hurt more than whatever beating and insults I’ve gotten.
“Reject her, Clyde. Reject that prideful nobody and be with me. You will be Alpha when we get married. You said you wanted that, right?”
My wolf whimpered upon hearing Regina. My knees wobbled, but I held on to my feet. Doing my best to be strong.
”No. I don’t want that. And I don’t care whether you are an Omega, Bella. I made a mistake. I want you—“
”NO! You are mine, Clyde!” Regina shrieked and a glass of wine nearby shattered when she swung her hands in anger.
I flinched when a shard pierced on my exposed calf. Blood quickly trickled down on it.
But Regina suddenly took a large broken shard and gripped it on her palms, aiming it on her wrists. Her palms started bleeding.
“Reject her or I will slit this on my hand! Reject her, Clyde!”
”Regina,” Clyde gasped in frustration. He was getting conflicted. We both know Regina would really do it. She’s used to getting what she wants. She will do anything to have it.
“Reject her! Or I will tell my father that you both conspired against me to run away in the pack and be mated! He will haunt you down and finish your family first! You know who my father will believe in, Clyde! Do as I say and reject her!”
Panicked, Clyde looked at me. My heart ached in both fear and pain. The Alpha adores Regina as his only daughter. He will do whatever she wants. And we both know it.
“I will mindlink my father now if you—“
”I-I, Clyde, son of Beta Leo in Lunar Pack, reject you, Isabella of Lunar Pack. I am so sorry, Bella…”
Something inside me shattered in pieces, and I know it was my soul that was bound with his. The matebond. Pain struck me in all parts, and I could see the same in his brown eyes.
But he was too scared for his family’s welfare. I know how much Clyde loves his family. It’s one of the reasons I loved him.
Regina threw away the glass shard in her hand and grabbed Clyde who had gotten weak. She held his hand and smirked at me.
“Now, go tell everyone that I am not going to be married to that scarred, ugly, sick joke of an Alpha.”
”B-But, he’s the most powerful Alpha of the land. He can kill all of us if you stand him up.“ I stuttered.
“Oh, yes, I know. So if you don’t want all of us to be killed, then make a good excuse why I can’t marry him. Or if you want, you can go ahead and marry Alpha Logan.” She laughed mockingly.
“Go, Isa, before we all blame you for the corpses that will be counted once the lycan prince haunts us all down in your tardiness.”
As if reinforcing her words, her father, Alpha Hans, mindlinked me. “Get Regina here quickly. The Lycan prince and his subordinates have arrived.”
I gasped.
How am I gonna tell them?
A knock came from the door. “Isa! The lycans are waiting for Regina. Hurry!”Regina raised a brow at me. And I just froze there momentarily. “Go. Or I’ll have you locked up in your room for weeks for disobeying me—If the lycans don’t kill you first.”I immediately turned around and started marching towards the door. More terrified at the thought of facing the lycan prince who was promised to marry the daughter of the Alpha of Lunar Pack who already agreed to their pact. She’s crazy. Regina has always been crazy. But retracting her words back from the lycans is far beyond her crazed mind. Doing this is basically suicide. “Where is Regina? The prince is waiting for the ceremony to start!” Alpha Hans barked as soon as he saw me. “S-She’s not coming, Alpha.””What?!” I closed my eyes in fear of his outburst. “That girl! She already agreed with me on this! Why does she not want to continue?””She… she wants to be mated with Clyde, Alpha.” I looked down, pain striking at the rejection I
The ceremony went on like a blur to me. I was physically there, but my mind was running around everywhere. I couldn’t grasp yet what this would mean to me. Had I really made the right decision to agree to this? Would my life even be better? Or am I just going to be a more battered servant the moment we go back to his pack?”… may now kiss the bride.”I sighed and fidgeted on my fingers. My life had just changed in just a couple of hours. I guess this is a happy birthday to me. “Isabella,” I flinched when someone suddenly took my hand. The owner of it froze and I looked up to the very tall man standing next to me. He looked at me as if expecting something. “W-what?” I asked silently when I noticed how quiet the entire hall had gotten. “You are now about to seal the union with a kiss, Luna.” The wedding initiator told me.Oh. I felt Alpha Logan’s skin on my hand. I turned to him and I sucked in a breath when I saw how intensely he was looking at me. “Where is your mind flying, w
The blonde lycan parked a black SUV in front of us when we were out of the pack house. “Where are we going?” I asked Alpha Logan when he opened the car and guided me inside. I glanced at the pack house, hearing subtly the sounds of celebration continuing inside.”Aren’t we going to ask permission to Alpha Hans to go away now?” A resounding laugh suddenly rang. I looked at the blonde guy who was sitting on the driver’s seat. “This pack basically belongs to Alpha Logan now. If there’s anyone who needs to ask permission, they should be the one doing it. Not the other way around.”The man turned to look at me and smirked. He had striking brown eyes that almost made his sandy blonde hair look more light. “Blake is the name, Luna. Nice to meet you.””N-Nice to meet you, too.” I took his hand when he offered it. We shook hands briefly before the other side of the car opened. Alpha Logan came in and sat beside me. “Drive. We need to get to Shadow Pack to sign the partnership before we g
ISABELLAI started backing away when he slowly crawled towards me. My heart was beating so fast as I felt like a prey at the mercy of her predator.”Are you afraid, Bela?” He asked, a smirk still playing on his lips.“N-No,” I lied. I could feel my insides trembling.”Really?” A spark filled his eyes, like a predator knowing he’s gotten his prey. He once again watched my lips.I know that being married to him includes doing… wifely duties. I may not have ever experienced being intimate with anyone, but I know this is part of married life. And as Alpha, I know they have much stronger urges. I learned that from Regina. She liked dating men with Alpha blood, saying that was the reason why she wanted to hang out with them.
ISABELLAI slid inside the car when Alpha Logan opened the door for me.I watched him, but a firm line was on his lips. What happened?“Good morning, Isa. I hope you had a great sleep.”My attention snapped towards Blake and saw him smiling brightly. His cheery demeanor is the total opposite of the latter. It made me smile back at him. “Good morning, Beta Blake—“”Nu-uh,” he raised a finger. “If I get to call you Isa, you have to call me Blake. Just Blake.”I nodded slowly, making him smile once again. “Okay, Blake.”He grinned. ”You’re cute.”I blushed.“Drive.”B
LOGAN“You did not Mark her.””Why should I?”Father stared at me for a while, his dark gazes trying to read me.I clenched my fists, displaying nothing but stoic emotions in my face.He sighed and stood up from his seat. He started picking a book among his hundreds of shelves. He wasn’t much of a reader, nor was this his office. It was Mother’s. He just liked staying here since we lost her. He even became a reader because of it.”The agreement was you having a wife before becoming king—“”And I have that now.” He shook his head and closed the book he was holding.“That is no wife, Logan. That is a servant, urged to marry someone she barely knew. She was commanded to follow her mas
ISABELLA“This is your room.”I looked at the bright room that had white and baby blue curtains inside. There was also a balcony that faced the thick and large trees of the pack.I smiled to myself when I could see the top of the heads of the lycan and werewolf statute from the town square.”Thank you. This is beautiful.”Blake chuckled. “It’s great that you like it.”I nodded. “Thanks again.”Blake suddenly tapped my head. “You enjoy yourself. Don’t let anything else bother you, alright? You’re one of us now.”I just nodded, knowing he saw how bothered I got the moment we were alone outside the king’s office.I just couldn’t help feeling little once again. I just knew
ISABELLAThat didn’t happen. The entire day, Logan was busy. Until the next day, and the next and the next.I hadn’t even noticed as a week flew by, and I’ve never seen him again.“He’s still out of the pack.”I flinched and looked at Blake who suddenly came inside the kitchen. He was holding a mug, the aroma of his coffee filled the air.“I-I wasn’t asking.” I faced my breakfast again and started eating, even when I didn’t have much of an appetite.Blake chuckled and took a seat beside me.”He gave me orders to stay and lead the pack as of now that he’s away. He’s finishing up the alliances we’ve made all throughout the year. But he’ll be back before you know it.””
ISABELLA“Who told you to come to my office?” He bellowed, his deep voice echoing around the hallway. But I just cried.“You can’t cry about this! This marriage is just on paper! You knew very well that this is just an arrangement!””I-I know… I know… b-but I just thought…””What?!”I flinched, fearing the way he was bursting out in anger in front of me. There was nothing gentle in those eyes anymore. All in there were those familiar disgust and hatred I’ve always received since I was in Lunar Pack. How did I even get the delusion that this time will be different?”That we will have a proper relationship? Wake up, Isabella! I can’t form a relationship with you!”Tears
ISABELLABut why would he?Did something come up? Did I do something wrong? What happened that changed his mind?I could only think of the very few moments we were together. And yet all I could remember was his possessiveness when he saw me looking at Clyde. How he protected me from Regina. How he asked me first whether I wanted to marry him, basically giving me the freedom to decide despite Alpha Hans commanding me to do it. How warm he was around me, and how he kissed my head gently, as if in comfort when he thought I couldn’t sleep. He was nothing like the stories I’ve heard about him. Sure, there was some sort of coldness and stoic presence around him, but he was not heartless nor ruthless. He was gentle and comforting.Being with me almost felt natural for him. And that feeling transcended to me, which made me
ISABELLA“Have you seen Blake?” Lianne asked when the Beta just suddenly vanished after the beer pong competition we won.The three of us are now sitting on one of the tables set inside the wide forest clearing. It amazed me how they turned this forest clearing into a great place like this. Fairy lights were hung around the trees and on top of our heads as if there was a roof above us. The bright moon and the stars were also helping with the nice ambiance along with the nearby campfire.Music was blaring, people were dancing, playing and chatting. Everything just seems so enjoyable, but I couldn’t seem to fully have fun with it. My mind is still elsewhere.”Have you seen Blake?” Lianne repeated when Kyla and I didn’t speak. I looked at her and saw her eyes wandering around the place.”H
ISABELLA“What a bummer! We didn’t even have our turn to touch the Staff!” Lianne exclaimed as we walked in the grounds after we were dismissed. It turned out that half of the trainees had the same plan as us: to wait until later to get our own time with the Staff. But until Officer Kent announced that they would soon close the Weaponry, the other trainees started crowding the Staff again. Officer Kent had to break the crowd off and dismiss us earlier than intended because of the chaos that was starting.“Yeah, but we’ll get to it next time. Maybe we can trick Blake into letting us in sometime.” The girls giggled at their idea as I just smiled at them. The call never stopped while we stayed there. I decided not to bother myself with it, but it just became clearer and clearer. It was disorienting me in a way, as I felt some sort of en
ISABELLA”Were you talking to Gracie and Shanine?”Kyla asked as soon as I approached them. I nodded, realizing the other girl’s name was Shanine.“Yeah, we accidentally bumped into each other.” I decided not to give out all the details.Kyla nodded but still followed the smaller figures of the two who were walking away from the grounds. We saw them get inside the small breakfast shop just right around the pack cafeteria.“Did they do anything to you?” I shook my head.“You sure? Those girls are up to no good.” I just shook my head again and smiled at them.“Yeah. Come on, I’m excited for today.” As if on instinct, Lianne and Kyla grabbed each of my arms and encircled theirs with mine.I smiled to
