Chapter 4

Sylvie Morgan's pov

Wiping my eyes, I remained tight-lipped as Ethan told me that Marcus would be telling me the same thing.

“He will also mentor you and help you understand what you are,” he sighed and I cocked my brow.

“What do you mean? Am I not like all you other werewolves?”

Hissing through his teeth he paused briefly before shaking his head.

“You're not like the rest of us because you're now just hearing your inner wolf. Normally we are aware of it in our youth. You're different somehow, but Marcus will know when you turn eighteen since he's an expert at such things,” he explained, and I lowered my eyes from him as we neared his apartment complex.

Opening the door, he gestured for me to go ahead, and I stepped past him, feeling oddly calm.

“He's your center,” Opal chirped in my head and I glanced back at Ethan as my lip curled up.

“He's my best friend and knows a lot about me,” I murmured.

“What was that,” Ethan inquired and I told him that it was nothing.

I went to his small living room and sat on the end of his couch still in shock and unsure of everything that I had just discovered.

My heart hurt because I had been lied to by everyone that I held dear.

Hearing Ethan rummaging through his freezer I turned when he returned with an ice cream sandwich.

“Thanks,” I muttered while taking it from his hand. Brushing his fingers as I took it, I felt a fluttering pulse in my abdomen, and my eyes widened just as his eyes did.

“What was that?”

Looking down at me perplexed he grinned.

“It's a reaction to, um, your wolf’s mate,” he mumbled softly, and I furrowed my brow.

“Mate?! Like to have sex,” I balked.

Shaking his head he exhaled deeply and said, “Your mate is similar to your soulmate. Only mates can reproduce and can communicate through their mate bond.”

“Sorry, Ethan, but this all sounds like fantastical bullshit. I could never mate with my best friend,” I huffed and bit into my treat.

Seeing him looking deflated I patted the space next to me so he could sit and eat his ice cream. He instead went to the lounge chair to sit across from me.

“So you wouldn't go to the homecoming dance with me,” he asked me with disappointment shining in his green eyes.

“I, I um, I don't think going to the school dance would be a good idea with finding all of this out. I have to digest this information. I mean this is kind of a big deal,” I mumbled softly and finished my ice cream.

“Well, I think you are taking it all pretty well,” he snickered, and I gave him a blank stare.

Leaning back in his chair, Ethan, having eaten his ice cream, clasped his hands together and gave me a once-over.

“You know Sylvie, if you think about yourself and what your interests are you would see that the truth has always been there. I mean, you love the forest, have excellent hearing, and have a good sense of smell. All of those things are werewolf qualities,” he explained and I rolled my eyes.

“I grew up with normal parents! We lived in a commune with other couples, and there were no wolves or mention of such. My parents were normal,” I asserted and he just smiled at me and nodded.

“What smart ass?!”

“Your commune was a wolf pack, they were members of a pack, Sylvie,” he laughed.

Pinching my lips I was growing bitter. There was no way my parents were werewolves because they didn't say anything about it nor did I see anything out of the ordinary.

“Marcus will fill you in on everything since he knew your parents and the pack they were members of,” he sighed and I clenched my fists.

“That's shit! He knew my parents and didn't bother to mention anything about it until now?!”

Getting up and coming over to sit beside me, Ethan placed his hand on my upper arm.

“None of us knew if you carried a wolf. It would jeopardize us if we told you all about us, and you went and spilled it to your human therapist,” he said firmly, and I shook my head.

Feeling nothing but betrayed by those I held dear I jerked his hand off my arm and said, “I should go to the cabin and wait for Marcus.”

Looking dejected, Ethan lowered his eyes from mine and said, “I care about you, Sylvie, and never meant to hurt you with the truth.”

Chewing on my bottom lip, I swallowed uncomfortably and stammered, “It's not you that I'm upset with; it's Marcus. He should have been upfront with me from the very beginning.”

“You'll go to the dance with me then?”

Seeing the hope flash in his eyes I hated that I had to tell him that I was scheduled to work Friday.

After I did he scrunched his face and huffed in disappointment.

“I will hang out with you at the grocery store then,” he deduced and I snorted in laughter.

“You can help me stock shelves,” I giggled and he grinned slightly and said, “Only if I get to wear one of those sexy green aprons to enhance my eyes!”

“You are such a goof,” I snickered and got shocked when he pecked my cheek.

Looking at him with wide eyes I remained still as he got closer and pressed his lips softly against mine.

Too shocked to move, I closed my eyes and savored the strange new sensation of my first kiss. When he pulled away I peeked up at him and murmured, “Wow,” making him grin.

“Let me call Marcus and see if he wants you to head home now to have that talk,” he said firmly and I nodded as I watched him go back to his kitchen.

“I think he likes you,” Opal chuckled in my mind and I agreed with her.

“We have only ever been friends but he knows me well,” I whispered. The female's voice said mate in my head.

“You can't know that,” I huffed and she just laughed.
