Sylvie Morgan's pov
Watching Ethan talking on his phone and seeing him eyeing me with a frown he ended the call. “The school contacted Marcus to tell him that you missed the second period, and he asked them if I was gone so he knew we both skipped,” he sighed. “Did you tell him that you spilled my secret about being a werewolf?” “Yeah, he's coming here,” he replied, looking bummed. “Is he angry that you told me,” I asked softly, seeing the concern in his eyes. Shaking his head, he said, “No, he just mentioned that he believes that you're a Sigma Wolf, and well, ah, that changes a lot.” I frowned, feeling that he instantly grew distant from me and I didn't understand why. Prying for more from him I asked him what a Sigma Wolf was. “You're going to have to ask Marcus to explain it; like I mentioned, he's the expert. I'm going to go get your bag from my car and will return in a flash,” he said stoically, causing me to frown. “He knows he is just digesting the information,” Opal whined in my subconscious and I gritted my teeth. “It better not ruin our friendship,” I snapped. “That will be entirely up to him and you,” she growled back and I narrowed my eyes. Not liking her attitude I thought, what a bitch and heard a low warning growl in my head. Rubbing my forehead, I glanced up at the front door opening and saw both Marcus and Ethan enter. Seeing Marcus looking worried I tilted my head at him and said, “You have a lot to explain, Mister!” Nodding his head he turned to Ethan and asked him to give us a bit of privacy. Ethan glanced over at me and said, “I'm going to head back to school. Here's her book bag. Sylvie, I will text you our class assignments.” Thanking him I watched as he left as Marcus headed toward me. “So, Marcus, I was told that you were acquainted with my parents,” I huffed at him, chewing on his bottom lip. He sat down beside me and exhaled deeply. “No, I only knew your mom. She was a Sigma Wolf and my mate,” he said sullenly. “She was with my dad,” I countered and he nodded. “Your mother was a Sigma wolf, which is a rare female Alpha who can have multiple mates and a unique ability to unify packs,” he explained to me, and I eyed him blankly. “I don't understand anything that you said. What is an Alpha?” Frustration creased his brow as he glared at me. “An Alpha is the head of a werewolf pack. Your mom was a female Alpha who could get packs to join each other to work toward a goal, and honestly, I believe that she was murdered by a rival pack that was against her trying to combine several in the area. She also had multiple mates but chose your Dad, over all the others; he had her heart,” he asserted, and I blinked my eyes at him in disbelief. “So my parents were murdered,” I muttered sourly and he nodded. “I can't prove it but I believe that they were. I also feel that you're just like your mom and are a Sigma Wolf. All the signs indicate that you are but I won't know for certain until you have your first shift,” he blurted out. “I thought all this time that I was going insane and now I find out that I'm a werewolf? This is unreal,” I mumbled softly and he gave me a compassionate smile. “It's not all that bad. You're safe here in this town and I will help you adjust and learn about yourself. Winnie will help you as well, and I am certain Ethan will, too,” he said firmly, and I sighed. “He asked me to the dance but I have to work,” I groaned, causing him to chuckle. “I'm still angry with you for not telling me sooner. I've had strange dreams for years and have felt different,” I huffed and Marcus nodded before patting my back and telling me that he was sorry for not being forthcoming about it. “It's not something that should be blurted out and I waited for the right time. Since your internal wolf has finally spoken to you I knew that now was the time. I just didn't expect Ethan to spill it. I wanted to tell you,” he growled, giving me a shudder. “Who is the Alpha here,” I asked curiously. Chuckling, he said, “Nash Johnson is Alpha, and I am Beta or his second. This pack is called the Black River pack. I'm also a Moon-less shifter.” Scrunching my face I asked him what that meant. “I can shift into my wolf without the full moon, unlike most of the werewolves who shift according to the Moon phases,” he explained, and I nodded, fascinated by that information. “I'd like to see that,” I said softly and he shook his head. “I'm not going to get naked in front of you, Sylvie. That would be inappropriate,” he asserted and my cheeks reddened in embarrassment. Inhaling sharply, I asked him if I would have to get naked to shift, and he nodded. “Shifting in your clothes would be painful for your wolf,” he snickered and I gave him a half smile. Patting my thigh, he added, “I will mentor you after I figure out what you are, but listen to your internal wolf. She will be helpful in training you as well.” Hearing Opal snorting in laughter my mouth went into a straight line. “What if I think she's an ass,” I huffed and Marcus laughed at me. “You must still trust her,” he stated and I rolled my eyes and frowned. “Have any questions?” Shaking my head, I told him no as I hid inside myself, confused and worried about how I was going to continue existing with this new knowledge. "School is going to be a trip knowing that everyone is a werewolf," I muttered sourly. "Don't forget about work as well, the Alpha owns the grocery store you work at," Marcus chuckled at the look I gave him.Sylvie Morgan's pov Driving home with Marcus, I sat staring out the window, staying quiet with my thoughts. Remembering last night I glanced over at him. “Were you outside my window sniffing around?” He gave me a quizzical look and said, “No I was at Nash’s.” “I heard a wolf howling when I got to bed, and when I was walking home from work, I thought something was following me,” I informed him. Giving me a stern look he sighed and suggested that he start driving me home after work. Shaking my head I explained that I wasn't frightened about it and enjoyed the walk. “It helps me clear my head so I can continue. I just wanted you to know that I had heard something,” I blurted out, then added, “If I have an issue, I can call you on my cell.” Side-eyeing me, Marcus nodded and told me that I could continue walking as long as I promised to call him if trouble arose. I told him that, of course, I would, making him grin happily. “Hey Marcus, what happened to Winnie’s mom? I ha
Sylvie Morgan's pov Standing behind the register at my job, my thoughts continued to drift to Ethan and, surprisingly, Lennox too. I don't know what it was about the strange man but he continued to invade my mind each time I also thought about Ethan. “He never did send me my homework,” I huffed as I grabbed my cell phone. Hearing footsteps I glanced up to see Winnie getting ready to leave and told her to wait a moment. “What do you need, Sylvie?” “Do you know of a guy named Lennox Mathis who is a guard,” I asked her. She laughed and said, “Lenny? Oh, he is harmless and loves being outside. Why do you ask?” Shaking my head I shrugged and said, “I ran into him when I was going to the pond.” “My dad's pond?” Nodding, I told her, “Yeah.” “Oh, I see. Well, he probably just crossed the boundary. They're right next to us so no biggie,” she answered me with a grin. “Okay, I was just checking,” I mumbled, and she nodded. “He looks a little bit like your friend, Ethan, huh,” she c
Sylvie Morgan's pov “You have nothing to fear, Sylvie. Why would I save you if I had ill intentions?” He asked me with a cocked brow. Laughing awkwardly I shook my head and said, “I wasn't thinking about anything ill about you.” Unlocking the door I gestured for him to enter and watched him step inside and glance around. “The Beta lives modestly,” he commented. I then offered him something to drink. Shaking his head he suggested that I bring him some medical supplies so he could tend to my injured back. Scrunching my face I explained that I wasn't sure what he needed. “Just point out your bathroom, and I will search for what I will need while you sit at the table,” he commented as I pointed to the door in the small living room to the bathroom. “I'll return in a moment,” he said as he pulled out a chair from the kitchen table for me. “Sit so your back is to me,” he added as he went into the living room. Sitting sideways in the chair I exhaled deeply as I thought abo
Sylvie Morgan's pov Having an intense dream about frolicking in the forest, my brow creased, hearing a constant ringing. Opening my eyes I glanced at my cell phone next to my spayed hand and saw it was ringing. Lifting it I pressed the button to answer and muttered a sleepily, hello? “SYLVIE! Why didn't you call me?” Ethan’s concerned voice growled loudly. Yawning, I asked him what time it was and laid my head back against my pillow, seeing it was still dark outside. “Who was that guy who answered your phone?!” Furrowing my brow I replied, “Lennox Mathis.” “Are you seeing him?” Opening my eyes wider I gasped. “No! What is your problem, Ethan? He told me that he explained to you what happened,” I snapped and heard him exhaling harshly. “He told me that he was going to return your phone and get a kiss because you dropped your phone when he was taking you home,” he hissed and I rubbed my eyes. “Well, that's not entirely true,” I muttered. “Which part?!” “It's
Sylvie Morgan's pov Riding in the backseat with my parents in the front I was still buzzing from going out for dinner to celebrate my twelfth birthday when we were t boned by a huge black SUV. The crunching metal and shattered glass covered me as I watched my parents get crushed before me. Staring at their lifeless eyes I screamed out in agony. In an instant, my happy life had changed, and I had become an orphan. Once I was released from the hospital I became a ward of the state. I was withdrawn and didn't want to speak with anyone. I was assigned to a therapist to discuss my innermost thoughts and feelings. I was young and had turned off my emotions completely. Soon after, I was adopted by a kind elderly man named Marcus Sanford, who seemed familiar to me, but I just couldn't place him. He was a huge gray-haired, bearded, burly man with a cheerful deposition and a great smile. Marcus brought me to a small town where he lived in a cabin tucked in a lush forest. It was wi
Sylvie Morgan's pov Sniffing the air, I could smell frying ham, eggs, and hash browns. Rubbing my tired eyes I rose from bed and patted my exhausted self out to the kitchen. “Good morn, oh shit…rough night, Sylvie,” Marcus questioned me. Giving him a glare I nodded and sat at the table to bury my face into my hands. “Was it those strange dreams again because you've got darkness underneath your bloodshot eyes,” he asked me as he set a cup of coffee before me. Taking a sip, I said, “This time, there was a female voice that called herself Opal.” Nodding his head he placed our breakfast at the table and sat down himself. “Very interesting. Um, your eighteenth birthday is in a couple of weeks, right?" Giving him an awkward glance, I nodded, told him that it was next week and he smiled at me. “She said that I would meet her then, isn't that kind of freaky?” In the middle of chewing Marcus swallowed uncomfortably and asked me if she had told me anything else. Lifting
Sylvie Morgan's pov “That boy is nice looking and smells nice,” the female voice from my dreams suddenly said clearly in my head. With wide eyes, I looked panicked around the classroom and at the other students to see if they heard her too. “Stop behaving so awkwardly, Sylvie. I'm your friend and ally,” Opal whined and I scowled. “I think I need to see my therapist,” I surmised as I opened my textbook to begin my lesson for the day. “You're not crazy, dear, and you don't NEED a human therapist, as they have no idea what you truly are,” she growled, causing me to rub my eyes. My stomach flipped at her using the word human and I wondered what she meant by saying it that way. Before I could inquire about it I heard Ethan saying my name repeatedly. I glanced over at him, asking me what was going on. Other students were watching him and me as I shook my head growing worried about the teacher disciplining us. Mouthing to him that I was fine, he frowned back at me, so I ignored
Sylvie Morgan's pov Wiping my eyes, I remained tight-lipped as Ethan told me that Marcus would be telling me the same thing. “He will also mentor you and help you understand what you are,” he sighed and I cocked my brow. “What do you mean? Am I not like all you other werewolves?” Hissing through his teeth he paused briefly before shaking his head. “You're not like the rest of us because you're now just hearing your inner wolf. Normally we are aware of it in our youth. You're different somehow, but Marcus will know when you turn eighteen since he's an expert at such things,” he explained, and I lowered my eyes from him as we neared his apartment complex. Opening the door, he gestured for me to go ahead, and I stepped past him, feeling oddly calm. “He's your center,” Opal chirped in my head and I glanced back at Ethan as my lip curled up. “He's my best friend and knows a lot about me,” I murmured. “What was that,” Ethan inquired and I told him that it was nothing.
