In the store, Ismail was lounging on the sofa and flipping through a magazine when his phone pinged. He quickly finished skimming through the article in the magazine before he reached for his phone and clicked on the message:

"Your card has been charged $1600."

He had given his secondary card to no one else but Lillian, while the rest of the women he commonly paid off using cheques.

He'd given her the card back then because she had returned the clothes, and he'd needed her to repurchase them. She had never swiped the card again until the one thousand-plus dollars this day.
