CHAPTER FIVE
Aliyah came to the airport to bid me goodbye. The presence of my friend lightened a little of the burden I felt, despite the grim situation. Aliyah managed to coerce a smile from me while her suggestive jokes kept my brother at the edge and uncomfortable. A sigh of relief escaped from Samuel when the airport announced our departure. I hugged my best friend the last time. I was still keeping the secret to her. It's not yet time to tell her; I console myself silently. A solution to my curse is at hand. Telling my friend would only complicate things between us.
"Where are you going?" she asked me curiously. She glanced at my small backpack and said, "You're only bringing those? So, you're coming back right away?"
"Yes, Aliyah. Papa would be bringing me to a good eye doctor. When I return, I hope to see you."
"Really? I don't know that it could only take a few days to have an operation."
"Papa said this doctor is very...capable. I would probably see you two days or a week from now." My lie was stinging my ears. "Aliyah, please don't ask me another question... I'm not sure I can answer you. We will be back, I promise."
Aliyah takes off the beautiful necklace she always wears to school. It was a gift from her grandmother to her. "Here, I will loan it to you. Keep it always and wear it all the time. It's like being with you." My tears rolled down from my eyes. I hugged her tightly.
"Thank you, Aliyah. I'll treasure this. Until then, please be safe." I left her with a heavy heart. She was watching us as we entered the airport with a smile. I wave back at her madly while I keep on crying.
Samuel sighed and wiped my face with his hand. "Don't cry. You will see her again."
"Promise?"
"Yes, I promise." I nod. I am trusting him right away. When Samuel promised to me, he always kept it. No matter what. Like my Papa, he was a steady and dependable person in my life.
We boarded the plane to the Capital. It was my first time flying, but to my surprise, I was so comfortable flying. I dream of having a vacation with Papa and Samuel but not in these circumstances. I was seated at the center between them. Sitting on the window side was my brother. I leaned over him to peer out at the clouds surrounding us.
"Samuel..." I whispered. "Do angels enjoy flying?"
"Yes, they do." He closed his eyes, trying to avoid my questions.
"Your friend ...does he have a name? The one with the red suit?"
"Yes, Sam, but I'm not going to tell you. Please sit properly. You're cramping my space." I glanced at his whole body squeezed in the economy space. He was very tall and very handsome. His long legs were trying to fit inside the area of the airplane. He was wearing tight jeans and a leather thong sandal. He looks casual with the black hooded jacket he wore. "Why are you looking at me like that?" Samuel looked at me with those beautiful blue eyes fringed with long lashes. I always envy his eyes. It was beautiful and kind.
"You know what...I just realized that you two look alike. He has deep blue eyes, and yours is light blue, yet it looks perfectly the same, only with different coloring. I mean, you might be brothers. You have the same long, lithe body, and you are the same height. The way you move with lightness even with your height was so alike with him."
"We are not the same, Sam, remember that. If ever you met him again, I want you to run away from him. He is a dangerous creature."
"How did you befriend him, Samuel?" I asked curiously. "I mean, your human, and he is an angel..."
"Shut up, Sam. People might hear you. This subject was not the place to talk about him."
I pouted at him. He stared at me and sighed. "I don't mean to snap at you." He gently touched my face and smiled. "Why do you always tug my heart like this? My beautiful sister..."
Papa watched us for a moment, then he closed his eyes and slept. A gentle smile passed on his face. I looked back at Samuel, but he, too, pretended to sleep. "I know you're pretending..." I whispered and kissed him on the cheek.
A smile forms on his lips. I watched him for a while; then, I lay down my head on his shoulder to sleep.
***
I saw her walking the sidewalk, hugging a bag of groceries. Her long black straight hair swings gently as the soft breeze blows over her hair. Her beautiful face looked radiant when she raised her face to receive the warm sun. She was humming a song as she walked towards the chapel. Her white dress printed with pink flowers looked beautiful on her pregnant form. She crosses the sidewalk looking from left to right to check for any vehicle. While crossing the street, she stumbled. An apple falls from the paper bag. She gently bent down and reached for the apple that dropped from her paper bag when a black car suddenly appeared and was speeding so fast towards her. The grocery spilled over the road.
The car impacted her body, and blood started to ooze down her legs. She lay down helpless, but the driver took off without stopping. She was murmuring a prayer when out of nowhere, a man walked towards her. He looked down at her with those dark blue eyes. The same eyes that had looked into mine when he visited my home. The red suit guy.
"You going to live but not your child." He said gently to the pregnant woman. He gently touched her cheeks, caressing them lovingly.
"My child...I don't want her to die. You have to help me." Her tears fell from her soft brown eyes as she pleaded with him.
"Do you know what it means if I give your child life?"
"I'm willing to take the risk. Let my baby live. I begged you, please." She gripped the man's arm desperately. "I will serve you completely. You can have my life if you like; just let my child live."
"If I agree. Your life will not be the same. I will take your child when she is eight. You will never see her again. She will be mine completely." He said softly.
The woman cried but said in a trembling voice, "I understand...give her life."
The man took something from his chest. He screams when he pulls out part of him. The light he took from his heart glowed alive like a beating heart. He gently rests it on the pregnant woman's womb. The bleeding stopped flowing out from her body. She felt the kick of her child in her womb. She smiled and kissed the hand of the man.
"Thank you...thank you very much."
"Your promise... don't forget." Then, he left her on the road and disappeared from her vision.

"Hey...wake up. We are here now in the Capital." I opened my eyes and saw Samuel smiling face looking down at me. "Time to go. You sleep like a baby in my shoulder."
"Samuel, I think...I know now why the seeker was looking for me."
Samuel's eyes suddenly looked wary. "What do you mean, Sam?"
"I dream of mom. She showed me what happened during the time she had an accident."
My father fidgeted uneasily. "Whatever your dream is simply a dream—nothing about it. We must go now. We still need to catch up a train bound to the Capital."
"Papa...mama made a promise. She did not keep it, did she?" My father avoided my gaze.
"Your mother has an excellent reason. She did it to protect you from harm. Let's go. We are in a tight schedule."
I ignored him and looked straight into his eyes." So, my dream, the promise it's true?"
My father looked at me painfully. "We love you so much, Samantha. We never want to break the promise, but one day your mother had a vision about you. We made up our mind to keep you."
"What did she see?" I asked, my throat tightening.
"She won't tell me. Only that, she will make sure you will be protected all your life."
I looked at the two of them. Samuel seemed distant, and my father looked aloof. My brother grabs my small bag. He tugged my hand firmly and said coldly, "The train is leaving soon. Hurry up..."
They disembarked on the plane and rode a train bound for the inner central. I am now more determined to know what my mother has seen of the future. She was a powerful seer and priestess. She must have seen my lot. What bothered me was why she did not honor her promise. A priestess and seer were bound with their words, yet her mother defied the promise she made.
CHAPTER SIX I watched the gleaming city disinterestedly. I was too occupied to think of the beautiful skyscrapers and the people walking on the sidewalk looking fashionable and happy. Eden Central was the most expensive part of the city. The people who can afford to live here usually are the ultra-rich, talented and gifted. The richest among them live in Centro-central. In comparison, Eden Inner are the workers who serve and work in the Central city. They were the working class of Eden. Then, there was also another part of Eden that was seldom talked about. Outer Eden was a place for people frequented by tugs and undocumented visitors who overstayed or committed a crime but had no means to stay or return to their hometown. Eden was lord by one man like my hometown was lord by Aliyah's father. He acted according to the command of the Centro-central city. He was the lord of all the lord and held all the power of all cities. Above from the Lords w
CHAPTER 7 The light blinded me as we approached the portal. In the nick of time, we managed to squeeze in before the portal was closed. Samuel gently put me down. I swayed, my knees getting weak. He tightly held me before I stumbled. With great effort, I pushed him away. Shock and realization of who he has still filled me with awe, wonder, and then boiling anger. Her confused emotion was, seething just below the surface but the stress and revelation of secrets these past days had taken a toll. After all, it's not every day you will learn that fallen angels hunt you, then lose a brother who turns out to be an angel—going on a trip of a lifetime, sightseeing the place of the dammed. Heck...no one can top this adventure. I hysterically laughed, thinking about how I thought my life was ordinary and mundane. And now, I got what I wished for, an experience like no other with a spice of death just nipping at my heels. I'm about to lose my mind just thinking about it.
CHAPTER 8 "You're here at last...been expecting you for a very long time." She said to me. "Your mother left a gift for you." She stood up and walked towards the bookshelf. She pulled a red book and gave it to me. I looked at the red leather-bound book and gently touched it in awe. I could not believe that my mother had left something for me. "She said that if she left it with the living, someone might find it. So, she brings this book here. Your mother was a clever woman. She outsmarted the angels, eh, and look at you now still alive and undiscovered." Old black eyes peered into mine with interest, and her smile gave me the creeps. I shudder involuntarily. Nervously, I said, "Seer, I thank you for keeping it for me. Thank you for helping my mother. But the main reason why I came here is that I have a vision. I don't want it to happen. Is it possible to stop it?" The older woman smiled toothlessly. "Why would you want that? Your fate wa
CHAPTER 9 I stumbled out of the tunnel. I looked around and was surprised that it was already morning and I was in the central city. I gasped at the sight and sound surrounding me. Fumbling my dark glasses, I hurriedly wore them to avoid the intense feeling I felt. I fished my way out of the steep climbed towards the cemented street. Touching the dirty walls and jagged rocks, I hoist myself up to the road above with my hands. All my life, I have relied on how I felt. Now was the perfect time to use it without the aid of my eyes. I stopped and listened to the sound passing me. I smelt the air, this was cleaner than the inner city, and it smells of people that ooze with confidence, wealth, and security. My main goal now was to locate Mateo. My heart told me to go east side of the city. I reached for my walking stick in my jacket pocket and unfolded it.Following my instinct, I move towards the east part of the city. I could hear the scream of
CHAPTER 10 He was looking at me thoroughly like a specimen in a petri dish. His dark blue eyes roamed my face intently as if memorizing every inch of me. I squirmed at the assault of his gaze. Then, he moves closer to me. I trembled in fear, and my heart ripped my chest in pain. I gasped then, he touched my chest, and my heartbeat gently beat like it was in peace again. "At last, I've seen you. Your mother was beautiful, but I never imagined how exquisite you are until now. "He touched my face gently. "I wonder all these years how you look like, and now here you are." "Your name is Mateo, right?" I asked while squirming away from his touch. "You're the seer seeker." "Yes, Samantha Grey. I am Mateo, and I'm a seer seeker." He crossed his arm and continued to study me. My foolish heart seemed to beat a little faster as he locked his eyes on mine. "You've seen us in the Dammed place." I whispered, knowing the answer full well, but I just ne
CHAPTER 11 I felt uncomfortable with the gown chosen for me. The dress was fiery red that glowed like one every time the cloth caught the light from the chandeliers above. It was beautiful to see, except for how revealing it was that I felt like I was walking naked. When Mateo saw me in this dress, he took a double breath and tried not to look affected. But I saw his expression before he could hide it. "Let's go." He said coldly. After the incident with dinner, he has been cold and distant with how he treats me. I tried to ignore him too, but I was aching inside. Inside the car, he said monotonously, "There are few rules as a human companion in our world Samantha. If a human approaches you, you are free to interact with him or not because you are equals. However, members of the inner sanctum must be treated with respect. You cannot deny them a request unless it harms each other. Understand?" "Yes, but what about the enlightened?"
CHAPTER 12 My heart started pumping. Both Samuel and Mateo tried to block me by their bodies by pushing me behind. My brother gripped my hand tightly while Mateo crossed his arm, trying to look cool. The Enlightened stopped in front of us. I have been wondering how they looked. They seem a myth than reality, but tonight, the three most powerful beings are in front of us. I tried to peer, but the two angels, keep blocking my sight. "What a surprised, the two of you in one room." I recognized the voice immediately. Once you hear the voice, you cannot forget it. It was calm, relaxed, and soft but hinting of authority that can bring tremors to your body. "Father, good evening," Mateo said softly, equally self-assured. "I invited Samuel to join us." CHAPTER 13 I lay down flat at the cold marble stone. Beside me was Samuel, crouching low. The gala had already ended, but the two of them remained. When Samuel offered me a choice, of course, I jumped into his offer. I prefer to stay with Samuel, who I've known all my life. I like to stay with Mateo, who was the cause of my mother's death. "You know, I'll always choose you, Samuel. You are, after all, my brother." Samuel smiled triumphantly and looked at Mateo." You heard her. She chooses me." Mateo smiled mockingly, "For now, I let you have Samantha, but you know the truth, Samuel. She always belongs to me."&nbs
CHAPTER 15 The long walk towards the center of Eden where the Tree of life and Knowledge were located and where the serpents live was the longest tiring walk I have experienced. The sunset from the horizon and the moon rising on the other side lighted our path towards where the Beast lay waiting for us. The animals and plants seemed quiet as we strode towards the center. I hold my fathers’ hand as if seeking his warmth for comfort. Victor Grey grip my hand to reassure her. Samuel was exceptionally quiet and alert as we got nearer to the Tree. My legs were getting heavy from the walk. It seems that every time we took a step, my body was getting weaker. My heart beat fast, and I prayed for Mateo to come as he saved me at the river spirit. Would he come? &nbs
CHAPTER 14 Victor Grey was lying on the floor unconscious. He was sleeping like a child inside an energy dome that sapped off your strength slowly. There were no bars of steel nor any barrier in the prison of Eden, only strange energy that would surround your body, sipping your fuel slowly and absorbing it for his consumption. It feeds on prisoners' fears and insecurities. The more dangerous the prisoner, the color of the power will become bluer, showing the intensity of his sins. My father had only a soft glow, meaning he was not a dangerous man. I ran towards him and called his name softly. "Papa, please wake up," I whispered tearfully. His skin has turned ashen. "Do not put in your hand inside, Sam," My brother warned me. He looked around for the guards, who were strangely not around. Something was not right. "We need to find the
