Leaving Mary's house, Elis drove straight to the company. As soon as she got out of the car, she saw her boss and two other people walking out of the company's door. Henry noticed her and immediately glanced over, and

Elis stood straight and nodded slightly as a signal that she had arrived.

Henry walked steadily, occasionally tilting his head to talk to his colleagues. Elis walked up, smiling and greeted, "Chairman, what can I do for you?"

Henry looked at the bright red car parked in front of them and said, "You can be the driver."

Elis took a few seconds to digest what Henry meant, and she pursed her lips, looking at the two men next to him. No one dared to look at her, and Elis nodded, thinking that if he wants her to be a driver, then don't be afraid of losing his life in her hands.

Laughing inwardly, Elis returned to her car and sat in the driver's seat, glancing at the chairman sitting in the passenger seat, then looking up at the rearview mirror to see the two men sitting behind her. No one dared to speak and they just bowed their heads very low.

Henry took his laptop from his lap, opened it, and began working with great concentration, true to the style of a successful wealthy and talented person.

Elis sneered, turning the steering wheel with great skill, stepping on the accelerator with her high heels, and the wheels immediately turned and sped away. The three people in the car turned pale, and Henry hurriedly closed his laptop, while the two men in the back tightly held onto their seatbelts.

"Or let me drive," Brian suggested, and Elis gave him a random glance with a hint of contempt.

She smiled lightly. "It's okay, I have to complete the task." She looked at Henry out of the corner of her eye and said, "Isn't that right, Chairman?"

Henry frowned but did not object. He lowered his head and typed on his ten-finger typing computer.

Elis was not a weak girl; she knew when to stop. The car ran smoothly on the road, and she suddenly realized that she had not asked where they were going. Looking at the road, she asked, "Chairman, where are we going?"

"ABC Real Estate Company."

It was rare for the chairman and employees to go out and then be treated to a sumptuous meal. Walking into the restaurant, Elis secretly glanced at her superior. Was he in a good mood today? He even invited employees to dine. She discreetly looked around. The restaurant was quite empty, absolutely quiet, just like her boss.

Henry sat down first, Elis sat next to him, and Connor followed. The waiter quickly brought the menu, and Henry said casually, "Feel free to choose."

Connor eagerly opened the menu and turned to Brian, "Can you eat spicy food?"

Brian shrugged, "No."

Connor continued to look at the menu, then looked at everyone, "Choose what you want, I only need spicy grilled ribs."

Elis sat quietly and looked at the atmosphere around her, with gentle piano music in the background.

"What do you want to eat?" Henry asked her.

Elis replied, "Anything is fine."

The waiter quickly wrote down the order, and after a few minutes, simple dishes were brought up. The four of them ate and discussed work, mainly Brian talking about the partner company.

Elis looked at her vibrating phone, politely excused herself from the table, and stood up.

"What? Blood?"

...

"Dennis is not at home. Where is he?"

...

"Okay, I'll be there soon. Stay calm and wait for a few minutes."

Elis rushed back to the dining table and quickly mentioned an urgent matter that required her to leave.

"But we haven't finished eating yet," Brian seemed annoyed.

Normally, Elis was always smiling and rarely angry, but now her eyes flicked coldly and she retorted, "Are you still waiting for me to take you home?"

Connor gestured to Brian to stop talking. "Is she really that busy? Do you need us to go with you?"

Elis didn't answer and just looked at Henry, who nodded. She quickly grabbed her bag and ran out of the restaurant.

"What's going on? Am I still waiting for her to take me home?" Brian grumbled.

Henry called for the waiter and looked at the two junior employees. "Have you finished eating?"

Seeing the boss's attitude was not good, Brian didn't dare to say anything more and just nodded. "We have finished eating."

"Then go home by yourselves."

-----

Mary lay in a pool of blood, her stomach was in pain, and her white dress was now a bright red color with a pungent smell.

Elis arrived quickly and saw Mary in such a situation. She angrily cursed, "What the hell happened? Where is Dennis? Where did he die?"

Mary held her stomach and murmured, "He had something very important to do. I didn't want to bother him. Take me to the hospital, please. My child, it hurts so much!"

Elis hugged Mary and felt worried and angry to the point of tears. "Call an ambulance, have you called an ambulance yet? I'll call an ambulance."

Mary shook her head. "It's too late. Just take me to the hospital now, please. My child, please."

"Okay, I'll help you. Hang on a little longer."

Elis lifted Mary up and the blood under her feet continued to flow. Mary cried and said, "My child, my child!"

It was a struggle to get Mary into the car, Elis's hand was covered in blood and she gripped the steering wheel tightly while observing Mary in the back seat through the rearview mirror. Elis was angry and looked like she was about to explode, with a few traces of blood on her face making her look even more fierce.

There was a ringing phone in Elis's purse, and she slowed down to take out her phone and saw that the incoming call was from Henry. She immediately turned it off and didn't answer, but the second call rang out. Elis angrily picked up the phone and asked, "What do you want?"

On the other side, Henry was standing on the street and asked gently, "Is everything okay?"

Sobs and moans could be heard through the phone, and Henry asked, "Where are you?" His tone was concerned.

Elis wanted to hang up, but was surprised when Henry said, "I see your car, pull over to the side of the road."

From afar, Henry was standing still, staring intently at Elis. His gaze never left her blood-stained face. She stopped the car, and Henry quickly got in.

"Don't ask anything, just be quiet," Elis ordered.

Henry turned around and saw a woman lying in the back seat holding her stomach, covered in blood and in great pain. He furrowed his brow but didn't ask any questions.

As soon as they arrived at the hospital, medical staff were waiting and took Mary on a stretcher into the emergency room. Henry was about to follow Elis, but she reached out and held his hand. When she let go, she noticed that her hand was covered in blood.

"Don't come in, it's easy to spot your car here. You should go home first," Elis said.

Henry looked at his wrist and then at Elis. "You shouldn't be alone. Wait for your friend first."

There was no way to refuse, so Elis nodded.

The two sat on the bench outside the emergency room, with Elis clasping her hands together and staring intently at the red surgical lightbox, hating that time wasn't passing quickly enough.

Henry sat silently next to her, listening to the hurried footsteps echoing down the quiet hallway.

Elis saw a man running over, stood up from the bench, and without saying a word, grabbed his bloody hands and yelled, "Are you still Mary's husband? Where did you die?"

Dennis stood still and looked up at the door to the operating room, his hands limp. He didn't care about Elis's anger, and he would accept her hitting him now.

Henry held onto Elis's shoulder and gently pried her fingers off one by one. "Elis, everything will be okay."

All the worries in her heart could no longer be held back. She burst into tears, and Henry embraced her, gently patting her back. "Don't cry. The doctors and patients need peace and quiet. Your friend will be fine."

Elis buried her face in Henry's chest, each sob choking in her heart.

Two tears fell from Dennis's eyes. He bowed his head and called Mary's name a thousand times. He needed her. If she had any problems, how could he go on living?

The people waiting outside the operating room door were always anxious and afraid. Their emotions sank into the depths like sinking lead. Henry held Elis's hand tightly, even though it was covered in blood. Elis didn't care about the chairman who was always in charge. Her eyes were red, and she occasionally looked up at the operating room door.

Dennis stood as if rooted to the spot, his eyes blurry and unblinking. All the pain and regret were etched on his handsome face. Elis knew Dennis was a good husband. She was just too angry, that's why she blamed him. But who could not be angry in this situation? Pregnant women are fragile, and he must know that if Mary loses this child, she won't go on living.

Elis sighed in her heart, "Oh my little friend, please be safe. Please, I beg of you!"

It had only been two hours, but it seemed like a hundred years. Finally, the operating room door opened, and a doctor appeared. Dennis rushed over, and it was difficult for him to even ask a question due to the lump in his throat. "My wife...how is she?"

"She lost too much blood, but the fetus is fine. I don't understand why the baby in the patient's womb is still healthy. We can't determine the cause yet. We need to monitor her further."

Dennis rubbed his face and clasped his hands together. "Thank you, doctor."

Elis stood beside him, both crying and laughing. "It's good enough. Thank you, doctor. Thank you, doctor."

The doctor smiled and then said, "We will transfer the patient to the ICU. Please rest assured."
