We sat silently in the living room. Mom and Dad were seated together, while Adam sat beside me. Across from us were my parents, with Mom staring intently at Adam, as if she were reading his entire being, her arms crossed. Dad, on the other hand, was slightly hunched over, his elbows resting on his thighs, occasionally letting out a sigh.

The silence was thick and uncomfortable. I could feel my heart pounding in my chest, each beat echoing loudly in my ears. Adam sat next to me, calm and composed, his face betraying none of the anxiety I felt. He seemed to be waiting for the inevitable interrogation to begin.

“Boyfriend?” Mom asked, turning her gaze to me, still in disbelief, her eyebrow slightly raised. “Since when?”

I swallowed hard, feeling the weight of their scrutiny. I knew I was the only one who could explain since Adam remained silent, clearly having no intention of helping me out. Maybe because he didn't know how to follow up on my earlier statement that he was
