When I opened my eyes, Adam was no longer beside me. I wasn’t sure how long I had dozed off, but I knew we had been lying next to each other earlier. After what happened between us, I hadn't gotten up from his bed. We had stayed there, curled up together in each other’s arms. He had told me to rest and said he’d move later because he knew I was tired. I agreed and fell asleep in his arms. But now, he was gone from the room.

Where could he be?

I sat up, feeling the lingering warmth of where Adam had been lying next to me. I glanced around the room, my eyes lingering on the door. Maybe he was just outside, doing something important.

I threw off the covers and got out of bed, feeling the coolness of the wooden floor beneath my feet. I quickly grabbed the robe hanging on the chair and slipped it on. Taking a deep breath, I walked to the door and slowly opened it, peeking into the hallway.
