Is This is Hostage Situation, Mr. Colton?

The noon sun was almost at its peak, but Delta was still running across the streets. She held her worn-out blue coat against her body that cold day, and her breath huffed as she made her way to where the people were. The inauguration of the new building was scheduled today, and she might just make it if she ran faster and evade the incoming people better.

“Over there! Don’t lose her!” A man pressed on his ear microphone and ran off to intercept her. At his words, seven of them emerged from the thin crowd Delta just passed.

“Oh, no… there’s more of them today!” Delta huffed as she glanced behind her. She didn’t need to see a uniform on them to know which men were chasing her.

She then looked up ahead. When she saw a pair of men moving furniture into an alley, she picked up her knee-length skirt and held it to her waist. Then she leaped across the long table like it was just a simple hurdle. The moving men grew shocked, but they were trampled by three men who were chasing Delta.

The woman dropped the hem of her skirt and continued in her direction. The people were thickening around the new building at the corner of the street. With so many people in there, she would surely shake them off her tail.

She glanced behind her again and saw how she lost two pursuers. It alarmed her, more when she ended up running into a streetside café. The lady jumped over the tables, hoping not to land poorly on the ground. The diners were all screaming and getting out of her way, soon retreating again when the five men took her path as well.

Delta groaned as she was hit by a bouquet of flowers on the table. She fell to the ground and rolled off to regain her momentum fast enough. Her lithe body was not made for this, but her terror made her invincible. There was nothing that could stop her from running. Not even the bouquet and a plastic vase she hugged along the way.

“Got you!” One man jumped at her from the side, but Delta spun to avoid him. She also dropped the vase on him, knocking him out from the hit.

“I’m almost there!” Delta could see the crowd and hear the speech of the company speaker. Once she dove in here, those men would not find her anymore. Hugging the bouquet to her body, she continued to run toward the unsuspecting crowd.

Most onlooking people at the unveiling of the new building were not employees. They were just bystanders who saw what was happening and decided to watch. After all, they heard that a certain elusive person would be showing up. No one had laid their eyes on him after a long time. Some didn’t even know what he looked like.

No matter. That person was still inside the car parked right in front of the thickening crowd. The moment he showed up, the people would see his face very clearly.

“And now! It’s time for me to hand the stage to the secret man of the hour! Let’s all welcome, Mr. Wolfram Colton!” The speaker started to clap, and so everyone followed him.

The man inside the car’s backseat only looked out the window. He seemed to be frowning at the speaker, who was smiling awkwardly at him. Since it was his family’s new building, he should show up at least. His father was already too old to indulge him, so it was his turn to indulge the press with his image.

He sighed and opened the car door. In his custom dark-blue suit, he walked out into the light. Cameras began to flash as he took steps toward the podium placed in front of the building. He discreetly reached into his inner breast pocket for his cue cards, only for screams to come from the side.

Actually, it sounded like a car was running people over. However, it was just a woman who dove into the crowd like a missile. The people saw her come and evaded her. Her legs were like little machines that helped her plow through the crowd.

Delta’s eyes grew wide from the strange action of the people. Why were they evading her? No, if she didn’t collide with someone, she wouldn’t be able to stop and blend in.

“Stop her!” Someone yelled from the side, and Delta felt very scared. She ducked down in an instant, missing the arms of the guards keeping the crowd from getting too close.

When she looked up from the flowers on her face, she ended up running into the man standing right in the middle of the clearing!

Thud! Delta felt how her body was stopped by the powerful arm of the man, but her momentum made them spin once before he could slam her body against his. The flowers that were in front of her were crushed, and they puffed with pollen all over the two humans’ faces.

“What… are you doing?” The man who caught her held her close to him as if not letting her run away. It’s just that the pollen got all over his dark-blue suit and on her blue coat.

“…uh… I…” Delta couldn’t say anything. Her speed just now had taken all of her energy. If she forced her brain to think, she might just faint. However, never did she count on arriving here and finding a man’s face too close to hers. It was even the kind of handsome that women loved.

The man released her slowly, and she immediately thought of the bouquet. She suddenly raised it to his face. “Congratulations on the building, Mr. Colton!”

At the very least, this was Mr. Colton, right?

The man only stared at the crushed flowers and then at the woman’s pollen-colored hair. He then held the bouquet down to find her panicking gaze. The color of her eyes was like the green leaves of a perfect tree in an everlasting spring. Her face was also flushing red like newly-harvested apples.

“Thank you.” Mr. Colton chose to smile and receive the flowers. However, he grabbed her arm all of a sudden. Without dusting his suit and face, he walked the woman toward the pedestal. He whispered, “You made me stand there longer than necessary. Now join me.”

“Oh, no, I should be hiding…” Delta gasped as she walked, trying not to look forced or struggling from his eagle grip. She glanced to the side and saw her pursuers calling in the situation and simply shadowing their steps. For some reason, this might be a better scenario.

“There are cue cards inside my suit. Take them and read them out.”

Delta frowned at the man who just spoke. “Why does this sound like a hostage situation, Mr. Colton?”

Mr. Colton glanced at her with a smile. “Because it is. Now move properly if you don’t want me to make you suffer for all of this.”

Delta only glanced at him before finding herself at the podium. Mr. Colton held her against him, but he still let them face the same direction. He then spoke, the microphone barely catching his voice: “My throat is not doing well yet. I’ll have my wife read out my speech to the people.”

Delta took a deep breath, but she coughed out from the pollen. Before she stepped into the podium to read the cue cards, she made sure to dust her face and hair. She also turned to pat the pollen off Wolfram, secretly taking the cue cards the man gave her. For some reason, Delta found herself faced with a lot of microphones and cameras. It even felt like the people’s faces morphed into machines. She glanced at the cue card and made a quick skim at them. Then she smiled sweetly as she began with her task. “Greetings, people of my dear city. On behalf of Mr. Colton, let me show our gratitude for your undying support and patronage to Colton Industries…”“…Mr. Colton… I didn’t hear about you having a wife before.” The speaker went to whisper to his boss’s son. “What is her name?”“I don’t know. This is the first time I’ve seen her.” Wolfram hid his frown at the sweetness shown by the strange girl who ran into him.“But didn’t you say she is…?” The speaker was taken aback. However, when Wo

The door broke down as the man fitted himself through it. The children hugged their mother, and Delta only used her lithe body to protect them. She would take out her stun gun, but a single charge wouldn’t bring down a big man like that. However, the big man retreated and stood at the side. A man in an expensive suit walked in from behind the big person. He had long dark hair tied in a ponytail and hidden behind his collar, and his eyes were as green as Delta’s. The most defining feature of his face was the ugly scar on his cheekbone.“Delta, just stop. You’ll only get yourself hurt if you escape again.” He shook his head at the defiant look on her face. He then moved his head to meet Eine’s gaze through the gap under her mother’s arm. “Oh, are those Foxley and Eine? They look really cute.”“Carolus, please pretend you didn’t see me here.” Delta took a deep breath and glanced at the other men the man brought to fetch her. “You don’t have to take me back.”“Are you crazy? When she figured that a bigshot came to collect her and her kids, Delta had a feeling she would soon find that strange man looking to keep her as a captive. However, she didn’t expect Wolfram to buy off even the oranges from her humble stall. He was even eating them to attest to their quality. He then gestured for the woman and the kids to come closer. “I heard some guys already got to you before my team had. Are you scared?”“Not anymore.” Delta only glanced at the captain before walking her twins to the kitchen island. She lifted Foxley to a seat first before seating Eine next. “Are you going to hunt down the person who escaped? Can you not kill him?”“Someone escaped?” Wolfram lifted a brow and looked at the captain, who only nodded. The captain was not even ready to report that the leader escaped them easily. The man just frowned at the captain before bringing his gaze back to the two kids. He pushed the bowl of peeled orange slices to them. “I already finished two oranges. Do you

There was no music in the wind, so Delta sang a tune she knew how to dance to. It was a classical piece, and it was as if she had been dancing to it for a long time. She was only making a ‘dum-da-dum’ noise to substitute with the instruments as she made her turns. “I figured you’d be more against staying with a stranger,” Wolfram commented as he only stood to let her spin around him. “My kids are scared. I need to find a safer space for them to calm down.” Delta had a smile on her face. “A mansion has always been safer than the streets.” Wolfram frowned. “Calm down? You’re still going to escape me?” Delta only hummed in agreement. It’s just that she didn’t look like telling him bad news. It was so strange, but she continued dancing like she was not being questioned.

It was so strange. Why did this woman want his clothes instead? He figured that was what most women wanted to wear. No matter. He just walked out of the bathroom after taking the red dress. Wolfram called over a maid and gave an order that froze the maid.“Leave this in my room. Get a change for me that will also fit Delta.” That was what he said, and it was pretty straightforward. He just didn’t know why his maid stared at his face.“Why are you still standing here?” Wolfram frowned at the maid. The maid took the red dress and asked, “Master, the matron bought women’s sweaters and other things for Ms. Hart. Does she really need to be in your clothes?”Wolfram slid his eyes to the side, but he couldn’t possibly open t

Wolfram would answer the phone then and there, but there were three more people at the table. Then again, seeing how they basically didn’t care about the maid, he just answered it. He pressed the button and listened through the silence that came after.[“I heard you suddenly picked out a wife.”] His father’s voice was coarse from his illness. However, Wolfram could still recognize that voice… and how the father’s voice was coarser than the last time.“I opened the building already. I only have to do two things that you asked me to do.” Wolfram only glanced at the others, but the kids were too busy eating. Their mother was also keeping to herself. They didn’t seem to care about his phone call. “I just decided to cross out another from the list.”

Eine and Foxley were not used to rooming away from their mother, so the concept of having a different room for all three was so foreign. Moreover, Eine was so sure Foxley could not keep up with cleaning after himself. It was just that… Wolfram had someone redecorate some guest rooms while they were busy washing off and eating. The eyes of the little girl could not contain their luster when she stared at the walls of her room. Dolls were on the shelves, and the pastel colors of pink and blue made a swirl. There was also a doll house and a lot of stuffed toys placed somewhere in the room. On a corner was a small pink tent with a play set of tea time on a plastic table. A plastic stove was inside the tent.“Do you like it? I can buy a few more things when we go out, so make a list.” Wolfram stood by the door, watching the reaction of the little girl. She was already seven or eight, but she behaved like she hadn’t seen so many toys before.Instead of going around like her mother and her b

Unlike in Eine’s room, most of Foxley’s toys were for outdoor use. Right now, Wolfram was letting him test out a drone. However, they could only fly it around the Blue Moon Estate’s yard. The tall grid fences allowed Wolfram to see through the defenses, but they were still wired to a power grid. If the drone flew over, it would get zapped by the fences. Crashing it would also give the same effect.Delta pursed her lips closed. She didn’t know this residence had electric fences. When she looked out earlier, the fences looked like gigantic chicken wire. It was good she found out before she tried to cut through it herself.Eine played with her new toys in her room, while Foxley ran around to follow his drone. However, he played it strangely. He would try his best to perch it somewhere he could reach and retrieve it himself. He said, he was

Feet shuffled as someone ran up to the main lobby. There were giggles in her mouth as she ran around like a small child let loose in their new house. It was just that… it was not their new house. Delta just incredibly missed the majestic visage of the Blue Moon Estate.Instead of having the honeymoon right after the wedding, Delta asked to have it moved to another month—or even at the end of the year. After all, Wolfram was still undergoing physical therapy for his body. She also needed to catch up with work to snatch Zenon’s seat on the board.Nah, Trisha knew how to be kind even if she was like an old witch. Delta long forgot to zero in on Zenon’s seat. Yuri should just pick someone else’s.“Delta, aren’t you a little too giddy?” Wolfram laughed a little as he called out from the door. He was also caught perusing the door of his real house. Ever since they received that threat toward Eine and Foxley, they had relocated to the Willow House. It was nothing but a safe house prepared f

Even though the newlyweds escaped the church, Trisha was sure that they would return for the reception. She was making rounds to see the food served to the guests, but she only heard everyone discussing a few things about the wedding. They talked about the venue, the other guests, Delta’s angelic entrance… the children, the wedding vows, and the willful escape. Some matrons and maidens gossiped about the children a lot. It was evident in their vows that Delta’s little angels were not Wolfram’s children. However, the two kids would say ‘Daddy Wolfie’ every time.“Trisha, when are they returning?” Janelle stealthily went to her side and offered her a drink as an excuse. “We still have to tell Delta about the thing.”“Psh, do you think I’m not ready? Delta already knows about the plan.” Trisha huffed and still took the drink Janelle gave her. She sipped on it and waved her hand to make Janelle scarce. Chatters returned with squeals and cooing as the flower girls and the ringbearers came. Eine and Regina were like little fairies scattering the flower petals. Even if guests could not bring their children, the bride and groom’s family still had theirs. After all, these three had a role to play.Foxley walked next to Gulper, the dog carrying a pillow on its back. Gulper even had a suit that matched its owner’s clothes. The rings were on the pillow, encased in a glass box for people on the aisle to see. It was a pair of white rings with diamonds and gold linings. The music soon died down before the bridal theme started playing. However, instead of the normal song, what played was an old song only a few could recall. Wolfram figured it was that one song Delta liked listening to while she was waiting for Carolus to come home when they were still children.“Here she comes…” “Oh, my God… her gown is so gorgeous…”The people stood for the coming of the bride. When the doors opened again, the

The solemn greeting of the maids echoed to the stairwell where Delta was. Instead of heading back to the home office, she changed direction and went to greet her husband. She descended the stairs and found him walking home after another day of physical therapy.Unlike what Delta thought, even his blades burned against his skin that time. Not only the obvious spot had third-degree burns. For Wolfram to regain his ambidexterity and attack speed, he needed to do a lot of physical therapy. Of course, it came with frustration and exhaustion.Wolfram walked with his eyes closed, so it was fairly easy for Delta to catch him with her own body. When he bumped into her, he only gasped softly and whined upon seeing the bright smile on her lips.“Delta, have you finished with the guest list?” Wolfram wrapped his arms around her shoulders as she did the same on his waist. “You also look mischievous. The sound of papers shifting conquered the room as two men were looking through them. Some were letters of congratulations as if hoping they would be invited to the wedding. Yuri had devised this thing when he married Mariska. Only those who could give the nicest wedding gifts were allowed to come to his wedding. Since Zenon did the same, everyone assumed Wolfram would not break tradition.Delta was working on customizing the letters to respond to the rest, while Finlay and Gendry were on the soft carpet. The two were going through the offers; one was grading their realism, while the other was running checks on whoever sent them. Delta could ask Angeline to go through them, but she needed that secretary to handle more things required by the company. She then chuckled as she took a break from typing. Delta gazed at the two working hard on drawing out a list of candidates. The woman would have to run it through Colton Industries afterward. After all, she needed to see which were blackli

Carolus glared at him before shaking his head in helplessness. These old people should just have their fun from time to time if they like. Shezmu just laughed at the poor person before looking at the tombstones. “So, this is where you always go to when you vanish. Sheesh, if not for Red Core, we won’t even find you.”Carolus turned to his other side and watched Khepri slowly sit down because of his awful injuries. Babi was also there, as well as three more older members of the House of Ra. He all remembered them as active operatives even before he became one—aside from Babi. They were also well-acquainted with Kathy as if they all grew up under her care.Babi hugged her knees and placed her chin on them. “What kind of lady is Ms. Kathy? Since you’re not going back here anymore, I think today’s the only day worth talking about her. Also, we still have a lot of time before the sun sets.”“Yeah, it’s better than you speaking to a tombstone… unless we’re actually imposing on you.” Khepri

Yuri was the first one to react and laugh while the rest of the men’s brows furrowed deeper. Trisha’s eyes bulged out on Delta, while Mariska went straight to pinching the woman’s face. For now, let’s discuss a few things.”“Foxley, Eine, Regina, let’s find pretty flowers for these two. Look at how sad their room is.” Trisha gathered the kids, who were also concerned about the lack of flowers. They left the room in an instant as if on a mission. She then moved her hand in front of the screen as if caressing his face without touching the screen. “I can’t wait to come back to you…”Wolfram dropped his sour face and smiled at his wife.
