Kayah's Point of View
A sigh escaped my mouth. Here we go again. Another torment of my life in the second level of hell for me. This place should be one of the safest for me but no. Just like home, this is also hell for me.
"Hey, did you hear the news?" I heard the murmurs of students while I was on my way to my class.
"The palace announced our mating ball," one member of my pack replied, obviously excited.
"Yeah, I heard that too. And this time, the Alpha Rogue decided to join. And you know, this will be the first time for them to join the coming-of-age ceremony after a long feud between us. Oh my gosh, I’m so excited. I heard most of the rogue males are freaking hot!” I heard a series of squealing after that.
“I wish one of them would be my mate. They are freaking hot!”
I didn't hear the rest of the conversation as I walked away from them, avoiding any female members of my pack.
Rogue wolves are said to be ancient. They were stronger and bigger than the Pack wolves. Years ago, rogues and pack wolves used to have war until peace talks among the leaders commenced. This will be the first time the Rogues will be joining us. It has been rumored that the pack king murdered the Princess’s omega mate just to be engaged with the Rogue King’s younger brother. Their mating will be held on the next full moon and that would be five months from now. Everyone suspected that the king did it for political purposes. The king knew that the rogue could easily kill us if they wanted to.
"Hey Kaya," one of our pack members, Karen, an omega like me, called my attention.
"What's up?" I asked her when I caught up with her.
"Our Alpha told me to tell every omega to be at the pack house before seven. We will have a guest from the palace. And he wanted us to prepare. He also told me that he wanted you to come."
Ugh, this too. Why should I go? He knew I’ll be taking good care of mom tonight.
"Okay. I’ll be there,” I said, smiling even though I don’t want to go.
"Okay. Be there. You know what will happen to you if you don’t come ."
"I know. Bye.”
Karen was the last pack member who looked at me and my mom and the most blessed among us omegas. Not only was she mated to our Beta, but she also had the most beautiful wolf in our pack despite the age gap. After being bullied for years, now she’s in a safe hand and protected and the bullies diverted their eyes on me.
Some jerk wolves would constantly bully and harass us omegas attending here led by my younger half-siblings, Bren and Blanche.
Once upon a time, I used to be Dad’s princess, the Alpha. The thing was, the Alpha had chosen my mom as a chosen mate for he didn’t believe in fate. Mom was the opposite. She was waiting for her mate at that time. Since the Alpha was the head of the pack, and mom was too afraid to be kicked out of the pack, she was forced to with the alpha, and boom, I was born.
At first, Dad was a loving father. He showered us with love and fancy things until his real mate arrived, a member of the neighboring pack, an Alpha’s daughter. To make my life short, Dad kicked Mom and me out and gave us a house far from the pack house. When my mom found her mate, she was rejected because of me.
Due to shame and humiliation, Mom retorted to alcohol. She would hurt me, lash out on me, and even almost kill me.
As for the new Luna, she hated me. Dad stopped caring for me because his love and attention were diverted to his real children.
I heaved a sigh.
I looked around and checked if my bullies were here. This must be my lucky day because no jerks around even the proprietor, and I got out of the university unscratched after class, and now I'm on my way to the pack house.
Around five in the afternoon, the food was already being cooked. At seven, the guest arrived. In the extravagant dining area of the pack house, the food was ready, and it only took a couple of minutes before the door opened and a strong presence of visitors entered the area to eat along with the Alpha family.
“As the King has ordered, every wolf that will turn eighteen and mateless needs to attend the mating ball. The king invited the Rogues to attend. Failure to attend will face a punishment.”
“Everyone?” the Luna asked before looking at me.
“Everyone,” the messenger said.
It didn’t take too long before the messenger left.
Along with the omegas, we immediately clean the table.
“Kayah, come to my office,” the luna said with a serious face.
Oh no, I smell trouble.
As I closed her office door, I was greeted by a back slap while my so-called father was watching.
“The likes of you are a shame to my pack. Don’t you try to go to the mating ball or you’ll regret it,” she said. “Nobody wants a wolfless like you, hell, be mated with you. There’s no one who would want the lowest omega for a mate. Moon Goddess has forsaken you!”
I rolled my eyes. I never really let myself be affected by her hurtful words.
“Luna, I clearly heard the royal messenger say that every one that is eighteen and mateless needs to attend. And I believe I’m qualified to be there,” I said.
“When I said, you can’t go, you can’t!”
“Amanda, stop it. Let her go,” my father said.
“You’re dotting her, William! What the hell is wrong with you?” she screamed at his husband.
“Did you hear the messenger? It’s mandatory. You can’t do anything about it. And besides I don’t want my pack to be punished just because you’re too insecure of Kayah. Goddess Amanda,” he said.
“This is all your fault! If you just waited for me and didn’t choose a damn chosen mate, I wouldn’t be so paranoid!”
“Amanda!”
“Can’t you see? This bitch already turned eighteen and yet she hasn't shifted yet! She is a shame to you and our pack.”
“Enough!” Dad’s voice boomed and it made the Luna shut her mouth.
Father looked at me, irritated.
“Get out!” He screamed.
I didn’t wait for another slap and got myself out.
That was too close.
Kayah’s Point of ViewI was a wolfless. I do admit it. A year after I turned eighteen, I didn’t shift, instead, a painful tattoo showed on my left wrist and a voice that probably belonged to my wolf. It was like a glow-in-the-dark tattoo because it was invisible during the day and glowed green at night.Yeah, I know. Instead of a wolf, I freaking have a tattoo which I don’t even know what it means. I tried searching about the tattoo but I never found any explanation about it. And also my wolf’s voice shut her mouth about it. Today, my tattoo was partially painful. It felt like hundreds of needles piercing my skin one by one making it irritating. “Where’s my food, bitch?” I heard my mom’s shrieking voice echoing the whole house. Honestly, I couldn’t leave her if I wanted to but I didn’t at least not yet since I’m broke as hell. She’s my only family and it was not her fault that she became like that. Alcohol dependent. It was my father who ruined her. “Coming Mom!” I yelled at her to
The mating ball came to my mind again when I saw the gown. It was too beautiful for my eyes. I never saw such a gown in Eliza’s closet. I shook the thoughts away and tried to distract myself by scrubbing the Luna's house.I wanted to attend the ball, I wanted to know what it was like. Eliza had always said a lot of things about it whenever she returned and it fascinated me the most. I wanted a different life for myself and it wasn’t going to come if I stayed here being a punching bag and a salaryless maid. What if I had a mate? What if the Luna was wrong all along? What if I had someone waiting for me? Someone who is going to accept me just the way I am, with all of my flaws. What if that person won’t care about how broken or worthless I am and he would accept me all the same? A lot of what-ifs came to my mind, there was a chance that I had a mate out there who was just waiting for me. I heard that some wolves would rather grow old alone than choose someone else to mate with. What if
That night when I was about to fall asleep, a searing pain shot from the tattoo on my wrist, I bit into my arm to prevent myself from crying out. Mom would be furious if she heard me. The pain spread from my wrist to the rest of my body. Exaggerating pain shot my whole body when I heard something crack, the pain intensified to almost make me pass out.The cracking sound continued inside me as my body distorted into various weird angles, it was a hundred times more painful than I already experienced.Dots appeared in my vision as I closed my eyes but the pain kept me awake. I wanted it to stop but it only intensified and I dared not scream out or my mom would hit me till I was half dead. After a while of intense agony, it stopped. The fast the pain appeared was also the fast before it disappeared. My wolf was smiling at me in my head before darkness completely swallowed me.When I woke up the next morning, I recalled what had happened to me the previous night so I checked myself in a m
Kayah’s Point of View“What? Did the cat get your tongue, my lady?” Seven said as he was staring at me. “Uhm, I think you got the wrong, girl, Sir,” I said. Trying to step back from him. I knew this man.“Did I? If I did, you wouldn’t be wearing that dress which I custom-made only for you,” he said. Oh…This gown isn’t mine! I just found it in the middle of the forest…I wanted to tell him but just by looking at the Rogue King, my knees felt like Jelly and I was scared of him. What should I do? I need to get out of here!“Don’t you feel me?” He growls lowly, enough for me to hear. “Because I’m damn sure you are my mate.”Sweat started to form on my forehead. “I…uhm c-can I go to the bathroom?”He furrowed. “Let me escort you-”“No. No I can go alone,” I said and didn’t wait for his next words as I turned around and ran away from him. I intend to leave the mating ball. I rather go back to my abusive pack rather than to be mated with a Rogue King. After making sure he didn’t follow
him. “And who’s idea was it?” I asked him, still irritated. He chuckled. “I was trying to help to find your little mate, Seven,” he said. “Maybe this little mate of yours is probably in that school,” he added. “She’s a healer for fuck sake-”“But you're one big bad bad king, Seven. She’s probably afraid of you that’s why she ran away and left the dress you custom made,” he added.“Ugh…”“Now go and report. Maybe if you’re lucky enough, you’ll find your run away little mate there.”Against my will, I arrived. As I entered the piece of junk school, I saw jocks and cheer leaders ganging on a girl. She was badly beaten. Her back was at me and I couldn’t see who she was. Bullying was common in Pack wolves. I don’t blame them, their leaders could’t care. In my kingdom, bullying is punishable by death. Rogues do not tolerate power gaps nor abuse the leader’s power. "Red had persuaded me to go to this piece of junk university, and this is the scene that greeted me?" Pissed. The woman in
Gray’s Point of ViewSabrina…Who the hell was Sabrina?“I’m not Sabrina. That’s not my name,” I told him, trying to tell him the truth. “Will you quit it?” Seven asked me as he manoeuvred our way to his car off which I know will leave off to somewhere I don’t know. “Try to tell lies and you’ll see what will happen,” he added, warning me. I gulped. Why was this man so adamant about me as Sabrina and not someone who he mistakenly took as his mate? I get it, I wore the gown that was supposed to be his mate’s but I doubt it if he actually has seen her. Nevertheless, the whole me felt something about him. Something about him that draws me to him. My body trembles as I look at Seven. He’s too tall, too broad, too dangerous. His dangerous aura clouded my senses, making it hard for me to think straight. He’s nothing like the boys in my college or even in my pack. He asserted too much confidence and power, and I knew he demanded respect with his presence. His dark dominance was doing some
Kayah’s point of view“I’m better than Ron when it comes to thinking ahead. I might not be a fighter but I’m smarter.” Blaze ran a hand through his hair and winked. From his words, I understood that he was Sabrina’s main servant while Ron was probably a warrior. While I was deep in my thoughts, he took that chance to place the tiara on my hair. “Gorgeous! Perfect!”As I snapped back to reality, I noticed the gaze of some people on me, they whispered amongst themselves but it didn’t seem like they were saying anything bad. Some were bold enough to try and approach me but the glare from the two men with me was enough to stop them. “Can we go in?” I wasn’t comfortable with the attention I was receiving.“Sure!” As we walked to the main entrance, people bowed their heads and made way for us. I smiled as I walked past them, not wanting to act rude since I wasn’t supposed to bow to them.I allowed the guards to lead me to a room where a woman was waiting, she immediately got to her feet
Kayah’s Point of ViewI was soon in the midst of a group of people, it was made up of both male and female wolves who were attending the party, they were laughing and discussing something that I soon lost interest in, more like bragging about their packs and how organized and strong it was. Oh yes, I forgot packs of Alphas were also here. Just how many did Seven invite here just to me, his ‘mate’? Ron also mentioned to me about Seven trying to pair the rogues and packs that didn’t find their mates from the previous mating ball. Basically, it is the second mating ball organized by the King of rogues.I didn’t know anything about Sabrina’s pack so I quietly sipped from my champagne glass and pretended to be interested. It was comfortable to be around people my age and no one was releasing their pheromones or I would have found it difficult to stay upright and that might give my identity away.Suddenly I noticed my ‘loving’ siblings strolling over to where the group was. Eliza and Brian
Changing into a human was so painful that I almost fainted from it. My wounds didn’t magically disappear or stay the same during my change in fact they grew from my skin being stretched out. The open cuts tore open more and blood gushed out from my wounds on my arms, shoulders, and back. The piece of glass that was embedded in my hand was the worst of it all though because I could feel as if it dug deeper into the muscles in my palm. I could hardly make out anything when I was finally shifted into a human. The black shadows around my vision were growing and what other colors I could see was blurry.I knew that I was on the brink of passing out but I couldn’t yet. Not yet. I had to stay strong for my pack damn it I was their leader. I bit the inside of my cheek in concentration, slowly forcing my eyes to focus on Six. It took me a second to do it but when I did I felt a little relieved. At one point during my change she had shifted her gaze towards me but Six had yet to notice me yet.
We were both more than a little…speechless at Red. Everything had suddenly changed in less than a minute. The warm blood from Maryan’s once life threatening wounds was still in puddles, the earth unable to soak up the amount of blood she had spilt, but her injuries were gone. Questions on how Maryan had even gotten those deep cuts were all but forgotten as new ones arose about her husband. He had told us to think of him as a god. Does that mean that there were more or was he just a powerful man? If he was a god did that make him immortal? What were the odds that a werewolf would marry and a God anyway?Neither Six nor I was thinking very clearly at that point, we were both too occupied watching God walk away to even notice the pissed off blonde coming our way. It wasn’t until she was lunging for me that we both snapped out of it. My head whipped from Red to February so fast that there was a pop in my neck. In that single moment of looking at FebruaryI noticed that she wasn’t lunging
Six eyes were wide with concern and his mouth was drawn in a firm line. When he reached me he fell to his knees and started looking me over. I could see the horror and rage fill his eyes at the sight of my damaged body. I knew that I wasn’t in great shape but when his face lost a little bit of color because of it I knew that it was even worse.“Oh Ayah,” His eyes found mine again as he raised his hands up towards my body, wanting to touch me but also not wanting to hurt me more in the process. They settled on either side of my muzzle and he hesitantly leaned forward to rest his forehead against mine. “I thought you were out. I thought you were safe. When I called your name you didn’t answer and I thought….Ayah. I’m so sorry. I’m sorry.”I rubbed my head against his and whined silently again. I wanted to tell him so much that it wasn’t his fault, to hold onto him until the fear in his eyes went away, but I couldn’t do any of that in this form. I felt my eyes wander over to the broken w
I slammed the door shut without a moment’s hesitation and quickly started racking my brain for a way to survive this. Judging by the way Maryan was screaming while clutching her stomach I knew that she was going to be too hysterical to help at all. I wanted to scream at her for going crazy at a time like this but I knew that it would just waste my own time and judging by the thickening smell of smoke, I didn’t have much of it. Before I even realized what I was doing I ran over to the sink and turned on the faucet, splashing the cold water over my face helped to get my brain working.I was standing there repeating the motion over and over again when it hit me. Turning to my hysterical friend, I managed to get down to her level and shake the crap out of her. “Maryan, I need you to pull yourself together.” When she didn’t reply I shook her even harder before snapping. “Snap out of it damn it. We are not going to die here.”She looked up at me with tears still streaming down her face bu
Maryan laughed, “Of course I’m right. I’m always right.” She then took a piece of her long chestnut colored hair into her hand and started twirling it around her fingers. “So what was all in the drawer?”“Well,” I started before shifting my hip on the sink. “There was an old wilted rose, a plastic ring, and a worn handwritten book.”“Maybe a diary?” She suggested.I simply shrugged my shoulders. “I don’t know, that's kind of what I was hoping you could help me out with.”Maryan lifted up one of her hands to scratch the back of her head while the other positioned itself on her hip. She stayed that way for a while and I was about to give up hope when she suddenly blurted out.“You know I bet you that both the rose and the ring are from Prom.”“Ahh of course Prom….whats Prom?”She laughed at my cluelessness. “I forgot that you were raised in the wild. I'm sorry Ayah, Prom is a big formal dance for teenagers in high school. The girls wore some big flashy dresses and the guys normally wo
I let my hand fall from my lower abdomen but kept my gaze on Six. His shoulders were squared and the knuckles on his tightly closed fists were white. It wasn’t normally an odd thing to see Six this way but at a moment that was meant to be so joyous I knew that something was definitely off. Slowly, so I didn’t raise any suspicion with Maryan or Red, I moved away from her and quietly made my way closer to Six. He was so busy glaring at Maryan’s stomach that he didn’t even notice me until I touched his shoulder.“Six,” I whispered so that I didn’t draw Maryan and Red’s attention. When he didn’t respond immediately to me I squeezed my hands on his shoulder cautiously making him snap out of his trance. “Is something wrong?”He scuffed. “It’s nothing.”“Six.” I spoke in a warning tone.Six let out a low sigh before reaching up and brushing my hand off of his shoulder. “I’ll tell you about it later.”I nodded my head hesitantly before nudging him with my elbow. “Well hurry up and congratu
Maryan’s eyes settled on mine as soon as Six took a step away from me and I knew that she sensed that something was wrong between him and me. I wanted to go up to Maryan right then and there and drag her off somewhere private so that I could just lay everything out to her but I knew that it would be the wrong thing to do. One thing would end up leading to another and I would most likely say something that would be better off not knowing. So I simply shook my head at her and silently hoped that she would just let it go but as soon as I saw her lips pucker I knew that it wasn’t going to happen.Red must have noticed that something was bothering me as well because instead of greeting his longtime friend, he brushed right by him and skipped over to me. His smile was friendly as he skidded to a halt beside me before slinging his arm around my shoulders.“What’s a pretty lady like you frowning about?” He asked with a gentle but amusing smile on his face.Whenever Red was around me he made m
February bowed her head even lower before lifting it up and retreating into the crowd. I looked around to see a bunch of silver eyes staring back at me but slowly they flashed back to their original colors and the pack started to livin up again.Six’s hand landed on my right shoulder and he used it to yank me back into his chest, once there I felt his warm breath tickle the back of my ear. “You shouldn’t put your life at stake so easily.”I let out a sigh. “If I hadn’t then she might not have backed down.”“Then I would have put her in her place.”I looked over my shoulder at him. There were no gold flecks in his eyes so I knew that I was talking strictly to his human half. “We don’t need to do anything. You know, we need more wolves to side with us. And making them out to be enemies is the least thing I can think of right now.”Six hooded. “But I’m serious. I would really put her in her place.”I heaved a sigh. “As my beta or as my mate?”His lips formed into a firm line and I k
I touched my other hand to his upper arm and patted it reassuringly. “I’m sure.”Six’s body slowly started to relax under my touch and I could feel his gaze start to soften on me as well. His eyes returned to those perfect brilliant green ones that I adored so much. I couldn’t help but stare into them for a moment and let those sweet loving emotions that I had been keeping at bay inside of me run rampant. Six must have been sharing a similar feeling as well because his hand crept up to where mine was resting and he squeezed it gently.“Are you two mated?” Both of us snapped out of our trance at the sound of February’s voice. How had we forgotten that she was there?Six let his hand fall away from me before shrugging away from me and taking a step towards her. “What was that?”February’s gaze turned into a hard glare as she looked between the both of us. “She’s your mate isn’t she?” She snarled in my direction.Six step over to the side to block me from her hateful glare. “She is
