"Marissa, what exactly are you doing?" My friend Amanda demanded as I laid flipping through my phone.

"What do you mean?" Come on, what else could I possibly be doing at a time like this?

She had shown up here unannounced almost three hours ago going on and on about some party that we just absolutely had to go to.

Amanda was well aware that large gatherings weren't something I was fond of, yet here she was forcing me to go along with her.

"I've been asking you which lipstick looks better and you've just been ignoring me." Amanda pouted as she turned to face me. "Can you for once at least act like you care?"

Act like I care? How could I possibly act like I cared when I was being forced to do something against my own will?

"Does the color truly matter?" I mean, in all honesty did it truly matter? By the end of the evening chances are it wasn't going to be on her lips anymore anyway. "Why don't you go for whichever won't leave your next victim embarrassed when he is caught in the act?"

Amanda's eyes widened, "What do you mean caught in the act?"

"You know damn well what I mean." Her innocent act wasn't fooling anyone.

Amanda was pretty well known for being promiscuous amongst our friends’ group. She had the habit of switching up men like she switched up underwear.

Knowing that I was right, Amanda didn't bother trying to argue with me anymore and instead went back to entertaining herself by studying her reflection in the mirror.

This was how it went with her. I wouldn't say that we were besties, but we tolerated one another to a certain extent. Given the fact our parents were best friends while growing up, they decided that they would keep us lumped together as best as possible. Especially when we got older and joined our pack.

As werewolves of course we were expected to join the pack that our parents were members of, it was like a rite of passage in this town. Amanda had already joined while I was still debating the matter.

Sure, the thought of being part of a pack was all fine and dandy, but did that mean I had to rush to be a part of all that? After all I had the freedom to choose in the end, right? What if I wanted to join a different pack? What if I didn't want to be part of a pack at all?

Either way, I still had another month to decide since we joined when we turned twenty-one.

"Perfect!" Amanda squealed from her place in front of the mirror nearly scaring me to death.

It seemed that she was able to finally decide on a lipstick shade, about time!

However, I didn't know how I felt about the look she was currently giving me. She was staring at me like I was some type of toy that she couldn't quite wait to play with.

"The hell do you want to do?" If she thought that she was going to attack me with those torture devices called makeup she had another thing coming.

"Come on, just this once." She begged gripping her hands in front of her trying to look all innocent.

"Negative, no way, no how." I was not about to be her makeup dummy, there was no way. "Plus, why do I have to get all dolled up for this ridiculous party that you're forcing me to attend?"

"Can't you just try to act like a normal twenty-year-old for once?" Amanda whined placing her hands on her hips.

Act like a normal twenty-year-old? What exactly was it that a normal twenty-year-old did? Did they go around prettying themselves up to go to mixers so that they could hunt down their mates?

Were they supposed to berate themselves and become submissive for some man that was literally just going to use them for continuing their bloodline?

Hell no, there was no way that I was going to be that girl.

"I'm fine just the way I am."

I mean, what exactly was wrong with my current appearance? My usually messy brown hair was up neat and tidy and my face wasn't the worst looking. I had after all, taken after my mother who was considered the pack beauty. With bright blue eyes, a button nose, light freckles, and pink lips with the perfect cupids bow I would absolutely say that I was a looker.

"Sure you're pretty enough, but imagine how drop dead gorgeous you would be if you just allowed me to fix you up."

Amanda was clearly not going to give up on this matter.

"Nope, no." To accentuate my point, I even crossed my arms in front of myself. "If you want me to even consider going to this ridiculous get together you better stop harassing me."

Amanda's gaze that had been fixed on me narrowed as she began debating my words. Good, let her consider which thing she wanted me to do the most. If she wanted to make me up then I wouldn't go to the party, if I went to the party then she wouldn't make me up, it was a perfect plan if I did say so myself.

"Fine." In the end I knew she wouldn't want to go all alone. "Just go looking like your normal self."

"I will. What time is this thing supposed to start anyway?" Thinking on it I wasn't so sure that Amanda had ever gave a time when she mentioned this party.

She looked out the window and up at the sky. "When the moon is directly above. It is a full moon party." She seemed so excited by the ridiculous notion of the full moon making things more interesting.

"So basically, it is going to start super late and end super late, fantastic." If she had told me this beforehand, I would have kicked her ass immediately, now I had no choice but to go along with her crazy plans.

"You know, Melanie wouldn't complain this much." Amanda pointed out puckering at herself in the mirror.

"Why would you even mention Melanie?" What did my older sister have to do with any of this? Sure ,Amanda and Melanie were much closer than Amanda and I were, but did she really have to hit below the gut by suddenly comparing us?

"Just cause." It seemed that Amanda was once again lost in admiring herself in the mirror and I was finally allowed to go back to reading the latest news as I had been trying to do before Amanda decided she wanted to bother me.

If Amanda's behavior right now was any indication towards how she was going to be at the party later, then I knew that I might as well accept that I was going to be spending the evening leaning up against some wall with a drink, watching the ridiculous couples bumping and grinding.

The thought of it alone gave me the heebie jeebies. I just didn't get how people found things like that interesting.

What was wrong with being alone? What was wrong with being independent? Nothing, that's what.

"It's time!" Amanda called jumping up from her chair. "Let's go."

"If we must." At least the sooner we got this ridiculous party started the sooner it would end.

Grabbing a coat and saying bye to my parents I quickly followed Amanda out to her car and jumped in. Hell, it was time to party after all.

The party was being held at the beach near the town’s main strip. It was the typical hangout for locals. A huge bonfire blazed lighting the sand around it and reflecting off the waves that were quietly crashing behind. The whole place was full of bodies, something that immediately made my skin crawl. This was the exact reason I detested parties. "Do you want a drink?" Amanda asked grabbing hold of my arm much too tightly. "No thanks, unlike you I would like to make good decisions tonight." Sticking out her tongue Amanda hurried away, just as I knew she would do all along. It seemed it was time for me to find something nonalcoholic to sip on and to find a place in the sand to sit. After all it was going to be quite a while before I saw Amanda again. Quickly snagging a bottled water from a cooler sitting beside the keg that already had tipsy college girls hanging around it, I found my way to a more secluded spot by the rocks. It would be the perfect spo

As the crowd around looked shock (apparently Amanda had brought us to a party with lots of normies) I began making my way over. I could hear the sound of Travis following closely behind. Picking up speed I charged straight for the wolf ready to tackle it, I couldn't change in front of these people so I had no choice but to take the wolf on my human form. "Are you about to be reckless?" Travis called from behind, there was clear amusement in his voice. "So what?" I called over my shoulder as I lunged forward through the crowd of shocked onlookers and wrapped my arms around the wolfs neck. I needed to quickly pin it so that I could snap its neck. Huffing, I used as much force as I could to take the wolf down and began to tighten my grip. The feeling of bones beginning to snap could be felt until finally a satisfying pop. "Look what she just did!" Someone called from the crowd causing a wave of murmuring to begin. Shit, I had screwed up b

"Why is he here?" I demanded, shooting a glare at my parents. "He came to meet us. After all, we will be family soon." My mother responded as if it was that easy to comprehend. How could she easily accept some stranger into our home like it was no big deal? "Why are you being so rude?" My mother asked, narrowing her gaze. "Travis went out of his way to come here and you're treating him like that." "Of course I am!" How could she be siding with him over me? I was her daughter! "I never agreed to being his mate."

After spending most of the night running through the woods, Monday came much too early and when that alarm clock broke me from my sleep I was ready to go 50 shades of insane on the entire world.I hadn't been able to sleep well due to the fact my brain was filled with images of Travis. As much as I wanted to deny it, the man had possessed some part of me and I couldn't get him to go away.Sighing I pushed my hair out of my face before getting up. It was the first day back to school after Spring vacation and I found myself wondering....why the hell was I even bothering to attend college?Because you want to try to be normal, that's why, I told myself as I quickly ran a brush through my hair and changed."Marissa are you awake?" My mother called from downstairs. As always she was as punctual as ever. "Hurry and come eat before you leave for school!""Sure." I called quickly throwing on a pair of denim shorts and a white

This could not possibly be happening right about now. How was it possible that this man was my English teacher? "Is he seriously the teacher?" Amanda who happened to be sitting next to me asked."Why are you asking me?" She was seeing exactly what I was seeing, of course he was the teacher. As if sensing my unease Travis' eyes immediately found their way to me and I swear to god just a look from him sent shivers throughout my entire body."Is he smiling at you?" Amanda asked. She was eyeing me suspiciously and I was pretty sure that meant she had begun to catch on.I needed to distract her from me and soon. "I'm sure he is looking at someone behind me."There were quite a few cute girls sitting in the seat behind me, why wouldn't a handsome young teacher be interested in some of his students? After all this was college, it wasn't like it was high school. It wasn't against the law for adults to be with ad

As soon as the bell rang indicating that class was over for the day, you bet your ass I hauled tail out of there and did not bother looking back at all. The day had been much too long and stressful, and I had spent most of it acting like a ninja in the hallways to make sure I didn't run into that Travis.Though everyone had been looking at me like I was insane the entire time, I truly didn't care. I was bond determined to not let that man find me and if it left me looking like a complete fool so be it."Marissa!" Shit, he found me!Not turning I pretended that I hadn't heard him. If I don't pay him attention he can't determine that I heard right?"I know you heard me!" He called as the sound of footsteps grew closer."I didn't." I called, damnit! Why did I bother responding?"You didn't yet you're responding!" He laughed while finally catching up.Immediately I could smell that intoxicating scent of his

After a quick shower and change I headed downstairs to find my parents hanging out in the kitchen talking animatedly. Of course they would be super excited that Melanie was coming home. Melanie after all was the golden child, graduated from high school a year early, went to medical school to become a well known doctor, and even joined the same pack as my parents. I guess you could say where I was the disappointment, my sister was the pride and joy."Marissa." My mother called the minute she spotted me. "I just got off the phone with Melanie, she will be in early tomorrow morning. She wants you to go pick her up from the airport."Why me? My parents were just as capable of picking her up as I was."Sorry, I have class tomorrow morning." It was a lie, but how were they to know?"Class?" My dad asked narrowing his eyes. "I thought you didn't have classes on Tuesdays.""It is a special elective th

Covered in sweat and dirt I leaned back on my heels. Burying the rogue that I had killed had turned out to be a bigger pain than I thought it would. The guy was huge, I mean HUGE, and burying him in wolf form had taken a lot of digging.Sighing I sat back and looked up to the starry sky above, it had gotten pretty late out and the moon was high in the sky."Fuck." I huffed collapsing on the ground. My parents were probably freaking out right about now given the fact I hadn't come home yet. How could I explain my disheveled form to them when I arrived? When the rogue attacked the other night I hadn't bothered telling my parents about it, because frankly I didn't think it was that big of a deal. But now that a second had made an appearance there wasn't any keeping this a secret.Getting up I brushed what dirt I could off my body and began making my way slowly home, I need to think of what to tell my parents when I

I managed to squeak out as everyone began to move towards the stage to get a place to watch. "I won't go back on my word. Not anymore. "Even if I was fucking terrified, it didn't mean that I was going to leave Travis hanging like I always did in the past. I owed him this and so much more."I'm okay." I said more strongly. "You look beautiful." Travis murmured, coming up behind me. "I almost don't want to share you with the world."Through the mirror in front of me, I caught Travis' eyes turning a dangerous shade of gold. It was clear that his mind was quickly heading to the gutter, and if this continued, we would never leave the room."Party and marking." I reminded him while wriggling free enough to turn and look into his eyes. "After that, you can do whatever you want to me.""Fine." Travis huffed in frustration. "I'm wishing we hadn't promised to do the marking in front of the world.""Too late for that." I whispered, snaking my ar

"How about this one?" Kim beamed, holding up a short red dress with a dipping neckline. This was probably the tenth or eleventh dress that she had shown to me. However, each one was way too revealing, and Kim wasn't accepting that I didn't want to show a ton of skin."Maybe something a bit more conservative." I tried, standing and heading towards the rack that she was rummaging through. While busying myself, I searched until I found a black lace dress with a dark blue underlay. The neckline was a v-neck, but it didn't dip anywhere near as much as the ones Kim was trying to force me into."How about this?" I said, pul

"Timothy and I grew up in a small village just on the outskirts of a small town called Washua." Thomas began keeping his voice neutral. "We were a small pack of wolves that specialized in raising the ultimate trackers."Just from those simple words, I could already understand where this story was going to go. No one liked trackers. They were looked down on in the wolf community, because they didn't take sides with anyone and provided their skills to the highest bidders."If memory serves me correctly, it happened late one winter night, right after my parents received a large sum of money to track down this big-shot alpha that was beginning to dwell in corrupt deeds."

After the meeting, Travis and I waited with Thomas as everyone left the room. For the most part, all involved were onboard with the mission to scout the areas that were marked on the maps, while Thomas and Travis personally worked towards tracking the dark mage. One thing that I found odd was that Travis didn't openly discuss in detail the plans for the tracking. From the way he spoke and his expression, I had a feeling that there was quite a bit he was hiding.Making mental note to ask him later, I tensed as Gregory and Davison made their way towards us."Uncle." Travis said stifflyas Davison narrowed his gaze on him. "Is there something you'd like to say that you couldn't say during

The woman staring back at me wasn't the girl that I remembered before my life turned totally upside down from meeting Travis. Her blue eyes stared back into mine with less hatred, and her features were softer. She seemed more open and more friendly. Nothing like the Marissa I'd been only three weeks before.Letting out a breath, I tossed my hair behind my shoulder and tilted my head to the side so I could see my neck better. From behind me, I could feel the shock roll through Travis. It was clear that he didn't expect me to say those words and from the tension I could feel building within him, I knew that I was going to get jumped once we were alone.I didn't know where that came from or why I actually didn't feel opposed to it at all anymore, but I would figure that out later. For now I needed to appease my parents."Are both of you telling the truth?" My father asked remaining unconvinced. "I don't want to hear spouted bullshit.""Do you think I would joke about something like this?" I asked, my annoyance beginning to rise. "Me of all people."
