I ran in a circle to make sure they wouldn't follow my scent. Once I was certain they wouldn’t be able to track me down, I shifted into my human form and quickly got dressed. Grabbing my backpack, I climbed up a tree.

Soon, I saw a group of wolves running after me, tracking my scent.

"How long are you going to keep running?"

I rolled my eyes. My wolf spirit and I had had this argument so many times that it was starting to get old. Ignoring her, I rested against the tree, watching as the wolves ran around, trying to follow my trail.

I was a rogue, and packs considered rogues a threat, so they hunted them down. I had been a rogue for years, ever since I ran away from home after my parents’ deaths. All I ever knew was how to take care of myself—forced to rely on my own instincts and independence. Now, I was used to this life, constantly moving. The idea of pack life bored me, and I had no interest in it.

It had taken me a long time to convince my wolf of this. One thing we always disagreed on was a mate.

I hated the idea that one day I would find my mate, that I would no longer be independent. I despised the thought of needing someone else to survive. The moment a wolf finds their mate, their entire mindset shifts—they become so dependent on that person, it was almost sickening. My wolf, on the other hand, couldn’t wait to find her mate.

"Once we find our mate, your carefree, independent days are over."

I huffed loudly at her words. Apparently, I made too much noise because the wolf below me snapped his head up, his sharp eyes locking onto me. Then, he howled, calling his pack.

I remained frozen in the tree, unsure of what to do as more wolves gathered beneath me. They growled, their eyes filled with predatory intent. Then, they started kicking the tree with their hind legs, trying to shake me down.

I did the only thing I could think of—I jumped.

As I leaped from the tree, I shifted midair into my white wolf, shredding my clothes in the process. I landed roughly on the ground, snatched my backpack in my mouth, and bolted as fast as I could.

I looked back—wolves were right on my tail.

I turned my head forward just in time to slam into something hard. My body jolted backward from the impact. Dazed, I lifted my gaze and locked eyes with a massive midnight-black wolf standing in my path, growling.

My wolf whispered in awe. Alpha.

She wanted to bow, but I refused.

More wolves circled around me, blocking every escape route. The black wolf moved behind a tree and shifted. When he stepped back into the clearing, my breath hitched.

He was gorgeous.

Dressed in black jeans and a tight white shirt that barely concealed his muscular chest, he had tanned olive skin that glowed under the sunlight. His dark brown hair was messy but effortlessly attractive, as if he hadn't even tried to style it. His features were sharp and defined, his nose slightly crooked at the bridge—evidence of a past break. His eyes, smaller yet piercing, studied me intently.

The only thing I refused to look at was his gaze.

"Shift, rogue, and explain why you’re traveling so close to our pack." His Alpha voice was commanding, leaving no room for argument.

I saw no point in resisting—there was no escape. Wolves blocked every possible route. So, I moved behind a tree and shifted, pulling clothes from my bag and dressing quickly.

When I stepped back into view, I kept my eyes lowered, avoiding his gaze. I had learned long ago never to look a male wolf in the eyes. The eyes were windows to the soul. The moment you locked eyes with the right—or, in my case, the wrong—person, you just knew. You knew they were your other half.

And I refused to be bound by such a thing.

"What is your name, and why are you traveling so close to my territory?" His deep voice carried authority, his towering presence making him even more intimidating.

I chose not to answer.

"Look at me when I’m talking to you!" he snapped.

"Just look at him, Iris," my wolf begged, desperation lacing her voice. It was as if she knew something I didn’t.

Before I could react, he grabbed my chin and yanked my head up, forcing me to meet his gaze.

The moment our eyes locked, I felt it.

A shockwave of electricity surged through me. My breath hitched, my entire body paralyzed by the overwhelming emotions crashing into me. My soul recognized his. He was mine, and I was his. Our destinies intertwined, bound by fate itself.

I wanted to fight it, to reject the connection. But I couldn’t look away from those deep baby-blue eyes.

"Mine." He growled in satisfaction.

My wolf was absolutely exhilarated to have finally met our soul mate. A part of me was relieved and even excited, but another part wasn’t ready to give up my life of freedom and independence for a mate—especially not an Alpha.Alphas were notorious for being extremely territorial and controlling of their mates. Some people dreamed of having an Alpha mate, but I was not one of them.“NOOO!!” I screamed, shifting instantly.I didn’t care that I had just shredded my clothes—all that mattered was escaping this nightmare. Before my mother died, she always told me I was different, special compared to other wolves. One reason was that I had Alpha blood, which made my wolf twice the size of the average wolf. The other reason… She never really told me.I aggressively shoved a wolf that happened to be in my way and darted away from the group. As I ran, all I could hear was the whimpering and whining of my wolf, begging me to go back—to not run away from our mate, to accept him. But I couldn’t

This wasn’t quite that, but it still felt… nice.A soft whimper escaped me as his hand traveled up to my ear. He gently tugged on it, leaning closer, his breath stirring the fur around it."Could you please shift for me, love?" he whispered.Something inside me snapped.I didn’t want him calling me love. I didn’t want to be his. I wanted to be my own person, free and untethered.Yet deep down, beneath all the resistance, I knew the truth—I did want to be loved. And that terrified me.I wanted the love and affection that had been stolen from me when my par

Damien's POV The moment I stepped out of the room I instantly regretted my words. She didn't seem dangerous at all in my eyes, she was powerful indeed but she was also just scared, who knows how long shes been alone as a rogue and I was trying to force the pack life onto her. The moment I laid eyes on her I knew she was the one for me. She had beautiful long jet black hair with a unique white streak that seemed slightly unkempt and unbrushed from her days of being in the forest alone. Despite her dirty face you could see the slightly faded freckles along her nose and cheeks, some plastered up her nose bridge and onto her forehead. Thought she seemed a little malnourished and wore loose fitted clothes you could still make out the accentuated curves of her body. Her eyes were what stood out to me were her big and round bright green eyes. Despite her cold attitude her eyes told a different story, they said that she was actually a sweet person who was just scared and used to

"Yes, he's the Alpha of the pack. By the way, I don’t want to sound rude, but is there a reason Damien is keeping you in the packhouse?" Danielle asked, eyeing me curiously."Normally, he doesn’t let rogues set foot near the territory—he just kills them on sight. You must be important." She studied me carefully.I shifted uncomfortably, avoiding her gaze. I wasn’t ready to admit to her—or anyone—that Damien was my mate. But it was as if she could read me like a book because the next second, she let out a high-pitched squeal, practically jumping up and down in excitement."Oh my gosh! You must be his mate! Damien has finally found his mate!" She continued squealing, clapping her hands.I merely nodded, unwilling to comment further."What’s your name?""Iris."Danielle’s blue eyes sparkled as she smiled. "Aww, Damien and Iris. I can see it now," she giggled."I see you’ve already met her and started harassing her," Damien’s deep voice rumbled from the doorway. He chuckled, his broad sho

Damien decided to move me back into his room after quickly getting the door fixed. We sat in silence—me on the floor, him on the bed—where he continued to stare at me.I had nothing to say to him. I didn’t have anything to say to anyone. After being alone for so long, with only my wolf as company, I had forgotten what it was like to interact with others who weren’t trying to kill me."Is there nothing you want to say to me?" he finally asked."No. I want to leave. Now," I replied harshly."There’s something I’d like to say to you," he said.I rolled my eyes. "I don’t care what comes out of your mouth, honestly."When I looked up, I caught him staring—intensely, unblinking. Heat burned in his gaze, his eyes locked onto mine with an intensity that made my breath hitch. A strange warmth crept up my face. Embarrassed, I quickly looked away, breaking eye contact."Your face says otherwise, Iris." My name rolled off his tongue smoothly, sending an uninvited shiver down my spine.I scowled.

"You heard me," he chuckled.I stood up from the ground so that we were face to face, though he still slightly towered over me due to our height difference."What do you mean it's too late?" I pressed, narrowing my eyes.He lifted his hand to my cheek, gently caressing it. His slightly rough skin against my face was surprisingly pleasant, calming my senses. His scent wrapped around me, melting into his touch, making me momentarily forget my worries."I'm already attached to you. I barely know anything about you, yet I never want you to leave my side. If you were to go, my wolf and I would be shattered." His voice was low and sincere. "The moment I laid eyes on your wolf, I knew you were different—that you had to be mine. If only we had met under different circumstances."I felt myself leaning closer and closer until my entire body pressed up against his. His hands traveled down to my lower back, resting there without moving further. We stood like that—two complete strangers, engrossed

My wolf spirit and I often fought about one thing—what would happen if we ever found our mate. But it was never about independence or freedom. Now that we had found Damien, it was like she was ready to forget all of that, to assume the role of Luna just because he was an Alpha. I had always assumed my mate would be a rogue like me, that we could go off together, free and independent. But now that she had connected with Damien, she never wanted to leave his side. The fact that a single touch from him could make me melt or that his scent could instantly calm my senses angered me. The way my body reacted to him felt like second nature, like we belonged together—and it disgusted me. Like I had no choice in the matter. I didn’t want the responsibility of an entire pack on my shoulders. I didn’t want someone ordering me around. I finished my shower and stepped out, grabbing a towel to dry myself off. When I glanced back into the mirror, I smiled. It had been a while since I’d seen a cl

Later that day, I spent the rest of my time in the room with Damien. We didn’t talk much—I wasn’t a big fan of conversation anyway. Besides, I was having yet another argument with my wolf in my head. ‘Stop fighting the pull between you two. I know you can feel it because I can feel it too. If you leave our mate, you will never stop regretting it,’ my wolf whined. ‘Leave me alone. Not only is this the best choice for us, but it’s also better for this pack—and for my mate. I refuse to bring my problems here and be the downfall of anyone. I don’t know how to be a Luna, and I know I will never be more than a mere rogue to him.’ My wolf was the only one I ever opened up to. She knew my deepest secrets, my fears—because she was a part of me. We shared thoughts and emotions, and that built an unshakable trust between us. Even though we fought often, it was usually because I was stubborn. And I hated that she was always right. "What are you thinking about so hard, flower?" The voice sta

I was chained to the wall, silver biting into my skin and burning as my body tried—and failed—to heal. The room was pitch black. No windows, no light. Just darkness. The door creaked open, and a man stepped inside—a tall figure in his thirties with jet-black hair, piercing grey eyes, and a gruesome gash across his cheek."Hello, Lillian. How nice of you to join me," he said, a twisted smile spreading across his face. He walked forward, one hand hidden behind his back."I’ve got a little surprise for you," he grinned. He raised his gloved hand, revealing a silver dagger. My heart dropped. He grabbed my face with his free hand, his grip rough and cruel."Luna, I know you can hear me. The Blood Moon is coming, and I need your true form awakened. If you won’t come willingly, I have other means to force you. Until then, your sister and I will have some fun.""Iris, I love you," Lillian whispered through the mental link, her voice shaking.Through her eyes, I watched in horror as he drove t

My head tilted as I tried to make sense of the change. She chuckled. "Blake and I finally mated."I let out a soft huff before playfully licking her cheek. It was hard to believe that my sister had gone from a rogue surviving in the woods to being mated to the Beta of the pack."Auntie Iry, who’s that? And why does she look like you?" Matty asked, eyeing Lillian with open curiosity. We had just arrived back at Lucie and John’s house. As Lucie helped Emma and Matty off my back, I stepped away to shift and put my clothes back on. When I returned, I noticed Matty watching Lillian with an intense, suspicious look."Matty, this is my sister, Lillian," I said, smiling as I wrapped my arms around her. Both children's eyes widened in shock."Auntie Lily!" Slowly, I trailed my hands down to the waistband of his pants, unzipping them with deliberate care. I slipped them off and tossed them aside, revealing the growing need beneath his boxers. My fingers teased the waistband before finally sliding them down, freeing him.He sat up, eyes locked onto me, his breathing heavy."Put that mouth of yours to good use," he murmured, his voice rough with need.A nervous excitement fluttered inside me—I had never done this before. But I wanted to please him. Tentatively, I ran my tongue over the tip, earning a sharp intake of breath from Damien. Encouraged, I took him in deeper, my movements slow and exploratory. His groans grew louder as I picked up my rhythm, his fingers tangling in my hair. But just as I found my rhythm, Damien su

Damien picked it up, unfolded it, and motioned for me to shift.I did, and as soon as I was back in human form, he draped the blanket over me."It's freezing out here!" I shivered, pulling the fabric tighter around me.Damien just chuckled, wrapping his arms around me as we stepped inside. The moment we entered, shouting filled the air."You're a fucking asshole! Am I not good enough for you?!" Lillian’s furious voice rang out.Still wrapped in a blanket, she was screaming at an equally frustrated Blake."What the hell are you talking about?" Blake asked, clearly irritated."That bitch had you on the ground, flirting with you and straddling you, and you just let it happen!" she yelled. The moment she noticed Damien and me, her expression shifted. Fear and panic flashed across her fac

"Thanks, Iris," Danielle said, clutching her head in pain as her body trembled."Danielle, take a deep breath and calm down. Relax your mind and focus on shifting. Imagine yourself as a wolf, running through the forest," I instructed. She nodded, squeezing her eyes shut as the trembling grew more intense. Suddenly, she dropped to all fours, and the piercing sound of cracking bones shattered the silence of the forest.A sharp scream tore from her lips. What's happening? Damien’s voice rang through our mind link.Your sister is shifting, I replied.Thank you for being there for her. We're still setting up her birthday party, he said.I focused back on Danielle as her bones continued to shift and break, her whimpers turning into furious growls. Then, her form stilled, and a stunning dark brown she-wolf with black paws stood before me.She lifted her head and growled, her wild eyes locking onto mine. Newly shifted wolves were often overwhelmed by instincts, sometimes even attacking those

You've been asleep long enough," I murmured, trying to wiggle out of his grasp but failing miserably."No… five more minutes," he groaned, pulling me even closer.I sighed in defeat before turning around to face him. Damien looked so peaceful and calm in his sleep, his usual intensity softened by dreams. I reached up and gently pecked his lips, causing his eyes to flutter open."That was a lovely wake-up call," he said with a wink.Rolling my eyes, I pushed against his chest as he finally loosened his grip. "I don't want to stop. I want you," I breathed out. At that exact moment, I could tell that his wolf had fully taken over. His eyes darkened with desire as he pulled me closer, his hands trailing over my body as if memorizing every inch. My breath hitched when he gripped the fabric of my shirt—and with one swift motion, it was gone. I gasped at his boldness, my heart racing. His lips found my shoulder, leaving a trail of warmth as he moved up toward my mark. I could feel the strength in his touch, the restraint he was barely holding onto. His presence alone sent a shiver down my spine, anticipation crackling between us like a storm on the horizon. But then, an unfamiliar hesitation crept into me. I had never been this vulnerable before, never exposed to anyone like this. I instinctively moved to cover myself, but Damien let out a low growl, his hands catching mine. "Don't," he murmured, his voice husky with emotion. "You're more beautiful than anyone I've ever been with." Slowly
