"Thomas, Leah!" The priest announced suddenly, and I quickly swallowed the shriek of joy that almost erupted from my mouth.
I knew it! Had always known it. Thomas was my mate!
I almost did a happy dance as I stepped out towards the priest for the moon goddess's blessings, expecting Thomas to follow me, but instead, all I heard were shocked murmurs.
Confused, I glanced back, only to see Thomas step out, a blonde female's hand clasped in his.
What the heck was going on?
I looked on in confusion, till Thomas and the female came to stand next to me in front of the priest.
I recognized the female. She was Lucia Welling, the beautiful and well-respected granddaughter of one of the powerful elders in Dark water pack. She had gotten mated last year, but her mate had died in a rival pack attack a day after their claiming.
"Your Holiness," Thomas bowed slightly in respect.
"This is my mate and the new Luna of Darkwater pack" He announced, wrapping an arm around Lucia's slight shoulders.
What?!
Was I hearing wrong or something? What did Thomas just say?
"What of the mate chosen for you by the moon goddess? Are you rejecting the moon goddess's gift, Alpha?" The priest asked him, his expression stern.
Everyone present for the choosing ceremony went quiet, watching the spectacle in front of them intently as if they didn't want to miss a word or expression.
As for me, I could only stare at Thomas in shock, with multiple questions running through my mind, making it hard to focus on anything.
What was he doing? What was the meaning of this? Was he rejecting me, and in front of our pack mates? But we've always known we were mates. We've always had each other's back, so why was this happening now?
I was so distracted by my loud thoughts, that I almost didn't hear Thomas's answer to the priest's question.
"It's not that I'm rejecting the moon goddess gift, but I can't mate someone who dabbles in the forbidden," Thomas stated plainly, pulling a sharp inhale of shock from me.
He knew! Oh goddess, he found out. He had found out about my practicing magic, b- but, so what? I used the knowledge of it to get him to where he is today!
Through my magic, I defeated many of his challengers in the Alpha Challenge even before they fought him.
Because of me, they would suddenly get sick in the middle of the fight or begin to hallucinate and Thomas would defeat them, crowning him the winner.
I even used my magic on the former Alpha too, when it was time for Thomas to fight him and take the Darkwater pack from him officially. And the Alpha had been nothing but kind to me in his own way ever since my mother's death. It had been like a big betrayal, but I did it for Thomas because I loved him and knew he was my mate, and now this?
If it wasn't for me and my knowledge of magic, Thomas wouldn't be the Alpha he was today, and he knew it, so why was he using it against me? I stood wondering.
"What do you mean?" The priest asked, his confusion obvious in his tone.
"She practices magic, your holiness and you know magic is forbidden. I won't have a mate who has corrupted her soul with magic, rather I choose Lucia. Lucia is the right one for me," Thomas proclaimed.
"You can't do this to me, Thomas. You can't! After the promises we've made to each other? After all I did for you, sacrificed for you because I believed you were my mate, you want to discard me?" I sobbed frantically, my green eyes wide with shock and disbelief.
I almost couldn't believe this was happening to me.
Today wasn't supposed to be like this. It really wasn't supposed to be! Instead, I was supposed to be successfully mated to Thomas and become the pack's Luna.
But, here he was, rejecting me in front of all our pack members. Humiliating me, as if all the humiliations I have experienced from the pack members right from when I realized my wolf was a very weak omega was enough.
As if all the insults, and demeanment the Darkwater pack showed me on a daily basis by basically turning me into the pack's servant because of my weakness, wasn't enough.
"You wouldn't be Alpha without my help Thomas! I made you Alpha!" I shouted, then let out a loud pained gasp at the hard slap Thomas landed on my face at my words, the force of it, throwing me to the ground.
Thomas hit me. He hit me!
I could think of nothing else, my brain scrambled from the pain and shock of the betrayal.
Even with the noise in my head, I heard some of the pack members watching the drama ensuing let out pleased gasps as Thomas slapped me.
I knew they were pleased with the way things turned out. They always thought I was undeserving of being called his mate and never hid their opinion of me from me.
It was okay when Thomas was just an ordinary werewolf, with a low rank, but now that he was the Alpha, why should he tie himself to a weak worthless omega like me? Lady Lucia was a much better option. She was stronger, beautiful, acted like a lady, and was from a good and strong family.
I heard them muttering loudly amongst themselves, my weak werewolf ears picking those painful words up, increasing the pain in my heart.
What did I ever do to this pack for them to despise me so much? Was it a crime to be weak?
I went into the practice of magic so they would acknowledge me, and see that I could be strong too, even if magic was forbidden.
I thought if I could make myself useful to them, they would accept me as part of the pack too, and not treat me like a mere servant, not worth noticing.
But the one who was supposed to accept me wholly, flaws and all, was the first to reject me.
I swallowed down the knot of pain building in my throat.
"Don't ever in your miserable life say that again! What power do you have to make me Alpha? With your weakling powerless wolf, that's almost nonexistent?" Thomas laughed harshly, as he looked down on me, where I lay on the ground.
"I never planned to mate you, I never wanted to. You were the one building castles in the air, by thinking an Alpha would mate you. You are way below my class, a weak powerless omega, without any rank in the pack," He spat in derision.
"B but, but-" I murmured, the confusion, hurt, and pain coalescing tightly inside me, till it felt like my chest was being ripped open.
"No but. My decision is final. I reject you Leah Grey as my mate and Luna in front of the moon goddess and the Darkwater pack"
Immediately he said that, a sharp pain pierced through me, like a sharp ax cleaving me into two.
I thought the pain and hurt I was feeling before was bad, but the pain that followed as Thomas made his rejection official, was way worse. It was like every nerve ending in my body was screeching in pain, burning everything in its path.
The pain was worse than it ought to be because my wolf had grown weaker these past weeks. The stronger a wolf, the better the wolf can bear a rejection pain, and my wolf was at its weakest because of my constant use of magic, especially during these past weeks as I helped Thomas win the challenge.
My wolf was almost non-existent now, like Thomas said and it was all his fault.
Before I could let out a word to accept the rejection or most certainly curse out Thomas for his betrayal, I dropped to the ground in a dead faint, my body unable to bear the pain anymore.
Leah POV Everything seemed to happen so fast. I saw my father claw at Thomas’s chest and I saw a very angry Damian on top of him. “Damian!” I yelled and tried to run to him to stop him but I was too late. He tore out Thomas’ throat. It was so deep that his bone was visible and I watched as he bled out, leaving me scared out of my senses. It felt like everything happened only yesterday but it’s been three months now.Damian professed his love to me once again, Lucia left without a trace, and Evelyn, Connor, and I finally went back to being friends. I apologized to Connor and he also apologized for seeing all that Steph did and keeping quiet about it.Today was a day to celebrate. I had on my head a crown made with beautiful wild flowers and my dress was very beautiful as well. There was going to be another mating ceremony, my first real mating ceremony as Leah Grey Ortega who would now become Luna Leah Ortega Leroy; The Luna of the Silverback pack, which began to progress again aft
Thomas POV My guards, both betas and omegas were already prepared for the war. All I needed was to get Alpha Elijah’s full support so we could finally take Damian down, and then I'd end the King's life as well. There was no time for sentiments. All that mattered to me was to end all this soon. I stepped outside. Damian and Anne have been away since yesterday already. Well, I didn't care. Nothing would change. Stephanie told me she had taken care of Anne, so there was no need to worry. I realized after a while that Lucia was not around. “Where could she have gone?” I thought but then later dismissed it. I went by my day doing every other thing and trying to get my head together. I was supposed to be in a meeting with the head of my werewolf troupes. Just then, the door to the room opened and Lucia walked in. “Where have you been?” I asked her. The sun had risen in the sky and was hot on all our skin.“You’re late,” I chastised.“I’m sorry, I just had somewhere to be,” She said
Leah POV My head hurt so much and my eyes stung from the light that penetrated the room. Everywhere ached so badly. I could still feel the stinging sensation on my cheeks as a result of the hard slaps the Alpha King landed on my face during his interrogation. I didn't blame him entirely though, he was just scared and was only acting like a father. The only one to be blamed was Thomas. He was the two-time conniving schemer that made all this happen.I winced as I tried to sit properly. I felt a hand on my shoulder. “It’s alright darling, you can go lie back down,” I looked sideways to see a female omega dressed in white. She was definitely one of those weird ones who stuck that sharp thing in my arm. I flinched from her touch. “An Alpha was here to see you earlier. You didn't wake up when you were supposed to but the moment he stepped in, you moved. But he has gone back outside now,” She added. “An Alpha?” I tried to think.Could it be Damian? Just then, the door burst open, and
Alpha Elijah POVI went back to my study and just lowered myself on the seat. My hands were shaking a lot. I had a secret I had kept for a long time and looking into her eyes now, it seemed like that secret was about to be exposed. I never thought that in my wildest dreams I’d ever be able to see her again or hear of her again but now, everything was about to change. John came into my study, “Alpha Elijah, why did you suddenly call for the doctors?” He asked. I looked at him not knowing what to say.He had stayed in the pack the longest and though there were times when we had our squabbles and all, I still thought very highly of him and he's been with me through the toughest of times. It was why I entrusted Anne to him and sent him off to the Silverback pack in case something were to happen to her because of Damian’s reputation. “She might be the child I've been looking for all these while,” I said to him. The look on his face said it all. He was so shocked. “That can’t be. We
Leah POV When I woke up, my whole body hurt from being moved around a lot and my head was basically splitting. I tried to stand up and move but my hands and legs were chained.“Silver chains!” I exclaimed. It basically weakened a werewolf and left them defenseless. How was the Alpha able to get something like this unless he didn’t just mine lead alone? I thought.Looking around, it was so dark and the floor was so solid that its sharp rocky parts pierced my skin. I also felt very different. My wolf was more active which only meant one thing, I was back to being Leah.“Oh no!” I exclaimed. Just then I heard the screeching sounds of a gate being moved over a very hard floor. “Who is there?” I asked. Just then, two male wolves walked in. One of them wore a large flowing garment on his body and walked majestically. Alpha Elijah. There was also someone I knew next to him. “John the blacksmith.” My brows creased in confusion. I was not at the Silverback pack but at the Risenmoon
Stephanie POV I walked angrily and banged the door to his room. Damian was a lost cause now. Thomas was right, I should just punish them both. Damian would never again love me like he used to. He just said it himself and I would never forget it or forgive him. I decided to go for a run. As I walked out of the main gates, ready to sprint forward, my eyes caught the movement of something in the dark or rather, someone. The silhouette was running fast towards the gates. I felt anger course through me. It must be Leah. I ran towards her and then tackled her to the ground.“Please, don’t kill me,” She shouted.“What?” I couldn't understand that. Leah would have definitely fought back and why would she run back if she knew that her life was in danger? This couldn't be right. I was sitting over her, so I moved back and really looked her in the face. She looked like Anne, the daughter of Alpha Elijah but didn’t behave like Leah. “Who are you?” I asked her still sitting on top of her.
Damian POV“But Alpha Damian, how could you have let this happen to us? An imposter right under our noses and you have been having an affair with her!” One of the council of werewolf members shouted. My blood was hot with anger. They had no right to talk about her in that manner. She had been nothing but kind to them and if she had any ulterior motive, she wouldn't have stayed for as long as she stayed despite knowing the kind of danger she would be in once the truth came out about her real identity. “You have forgotten so easily everything she put in to make us what we are. We owe her some of our wealth because of her intricate designs on the gems that helped us make very good deals with neighboring territories,” I pointed out. “Those gems were stolen.” One spat. “But now, they have been recovered,” I threw at him. I watched Connor from the corner of my eyes. He was silent. He did not utter a word or say anything and it annoyed me so much. They all weren’t seeing things from my
Leah POV My heart was pounding heavily and my eyes were misty and blinded by the tears that were glistening in them. I heard those words from his mouth directly that the imposter must be killed. I had waited all these days for his return so that I could tell him the truth, but I was too late. I used my hands to cover the sobs that threatened to escape my mouth. I had to leave immediately because I knew that if I didn’t, then I would be caught and killed. The wolf criers all began to howl. It was a signal that a general meeting was to be held and every werewolf had to be available and present for the meeting. No one was excluded.“It would be dangerous if I attended the meeting because they would find out about me and have me killed.” I thought. I ran back to my room and packed only a few things. My potions, since the book was stolen, and a few of my clothes. Just two sets, then I packed my hair to a tight up-do and then I sneaked out of the room. While everyone would be busy and
Thomas POV “I have done what needs to be done,” Alpha Elijah said to me, a solemn expression on his face. “It’s all good, your majesty. It’s all for the best. War and death is the only way we can punish such a crime. He wants to usurp your power and you must not turn a blind eye to it,” I said. “Well, that is indeed true, but what now do I do about my daughter?” He asked. That was what worried him the most at the moment. Where his daughter Anne was and what could have happened to her? I could sense it. I also had a plan for that of course. I place my hands on his shoulder, “Do not worry about that now, it is a piece of cake. I promise to help you in this war and also to help return your daughter to you, safe and sound,” I promised him.He looked a bit relieved after my reassurances, but I knew he was definitely not going to sit still and wait for me to return his daughter to him. So I changed tactics. “You don't need to worry too much about anything except your daughter. You can
