Prince is Coming

I just stayed where I was with my jaw hardened holding back the flood of emotions that were mixed up in me. He really treated me like a piece of trash that he could throw away at any time. If he thinks I need his treasure, then he's wrong. What kind of treasure has he given me anyway? A wedding ring with less than half a carat of diamonds?

I stared briefly at the cheap ring on my ring finger. Even if I knew it was only a hundred dollars, I once felt so proud to have it. Thinking that the little diamond was a symbol of sincerity and a bond of my and Sebastien's eternal love. I took the ring off after a full year of wearing it, making a color contrast on my ring finger.

"Do you mean this ring that's sold for nothing?" I asked, and then I threw the ring away, saying, "Just take this ring because I don't need it either."

Jennifer rolled her eyes. "It's good that you're self-aware. Don't bring anything other than yourself and the clothes you're wearing right now!"

They turned and walked away hand in hand, leaving me standing like an idiot with a part of me still rejecting the truth that was clearly in front of my eyes even after being insulted so lowly, I still held on to that speck of hope and said that what he said earlier was a lie.

Ah, I must have gone crazy from love. Love? What exactly is love that makes me willing to sacrifice like this?

With a very deep heartache, I picked up my cell phone that was on the bed and then searched for Grandpa's number in my contacts that I had long ignored. For years, I refused to go back to my only family. I kept thinking that all I needed was true love from the man I loved. And yet it turns out love is a lie.

Despite my hesitation, I called Grandpa. And it didn't take long for him to receive my call.

"Good evening, my dear granddaughter. You finally contacted your old Grandpa," Grandpa said, making his voice sound very weak as if he was dying. Even though I knew for 60 years old, he was still very healthy.

"Grandpa, I give up, I'm going back to New York. So, can you have someone to pick me up?"

"Of course, my dear. Where are you now?” He asked, “But, what's wrong with your voice? Did something hurt you?"

I took a deep breath, always exhaling it through my mouth at this point. I didn't want to tell Grandpa, because I thought that if I told him now, then I would definitely burst into tears, whereas I didn't want to show my vulnerable side to Grandpa.

"I'll send you my location," I said, then disconnected the phone without waiting for a response from Grandpa.

I circulated my gaze across the prison room I shared with Sebastien during our marriage. In that bed, he had once said that I was the most beautiful woman and would make me the only woman in his life. However, everything he said and did was a trick.

Without taking anything with me, other than the clothes I was wearing and my cell phone that I had before I met Sebastien, I left the room. As I descended the stairs to the first floor, I saw the people who had gathered for Sebastien's farewell party. They were looking at one point, which was Sebastien, who was embracing Jennifer.

"Now that I'm divorced from Chloe, I'm going to announce that Jennifer and I are getting engaged as soon as we arrive in New York.”

Hearing the announcement, people clapped and congratulated them on their engagement. I smiled bitterly realizing that no one had expected me to be there.

Stephanie, Sebastien's sister, who was married to a rich old man, approached me along with her mother.

"Mom, aren't we short of servants at this party?" Stephanie asked.

"Yes, look there's so much to do. We need more servants."

Stephanie folded her arms and looked me up and down. "Hey, poor woman, since my mom and I are being kind, I'll give you a job," Stephanie said.

I just stared at them sharply before walking away. I didn't have the energy to deal with them. For a year I had been patient enough with all their insults to me. I didn't want to stay another second in that house and see the face of Sebastien who had hurt me.

"Gosh, look at the behavior of that poor, ignorant woman, Mom. I'm sure she'll regret refusing my offer."

I had sent the location to Grandpa and he had replied that the person he was asking for would be arriving soon to pick me up. I waited for him in front of the fence of Sebastien's family home.

I looked up at the dark sky that showed no moon or stars. It was as if they understood that my heart was as cold as that autumn sky. I hated to cry, but I couldn't hold back my tears as I realized that the year of scorn and sacrifice I'd made was all for nothing. The love I thought would bring me happiness was just a hollow hope.

A blue car with a prancing horse logo pulled up in front of me. I thought for a moment that it might be the car of one of Sebastien's party guests because there was no way Grandpa's staff would use such a luxurious car to pick me up. However, when the driver got out of the car right in front of me, my eyes immediately widened at the sight of the man.

"Alexander Volkovich," I said in a voice so small that I doubted he could hear me.

Alexander smiled. "Good evening, Little Princess, your prince has come to fetch you.”
