Omegas, the word had never tasted so bitter in his mouth. Alpha Derrick Stone frowned, as his Beta mentioned the name to him. His son Damien didn't look at all pleased.

"Do you understand it's my 20th birthday celebration, an extremely important day. A chance to find the most important person in my life a MATE! Now why will I want filthy beings in a party like that." Damien sneered in total disgust.

Alpha derrick seemed to agree with his son's perspective on the matter. "Beta Moses, I don't agree to it, why should we invite omegas?"

" I know as a Beta I have no right in matters like this, but look at it from my point of view. It'll show everyone that you're a fair and just leader, let's do something different. The pack will be pleased, the aristocrat may not, but this is a good idea. Several powerful men would be in attendance with their daughters, hoping that one may become the next Luna of this pack, some will come just for the sake of networking. This will show them that you do not discriminate. An Alpha that treats his people equally and respects them is the right man."

Alpha derrick was in deep thought, it made sense, this celebration was also a chance of networking, how he appeared in the public eye was important..

"You're seriously not agreeing to this father," Damien said in anger. He was the golden prince, the eligible heir, with striking look and a title. How could be found amongst commoners, but the Alpha words were law. He turned to look at the Beta for help but seeing the two men exchange agreeing glances he knew the deal was sealed.

"Invite a few, The ones presentable enough to be in our midst." The alpha's face scrunched in utter disgust.

"Of course, Alpha." Moses offered a small bow and walked away.

"I don't like this arrangement father."

"To become a leader, you'll have to make hard choices. They'll be almost invisible at the party, I don't think they'll even be able to handle the crowd. " The Alpha said, walking towards the window of the study. He admired the vast land sorrounding the manor, the garden work beautifully done.

"One day you'll be Alpha, until then you won't understand."

"I understand, Father. I just hope I won't sight any, I'll puke." He said and walked away.

As Pamala stood at the door with her hands clutching the envelope with her life, her heart beating frantically, she almost couldn't believe what she saw. An omega she was, all her life the word followed where Pamala went, she'd grown accustomed to it but yet it didn't make it any better, being considered as the least members of the pack wasn't nice, to be looked down on, to be bullied, to be trampled on. Inferior to everyone, she could never get used to it, she never believed she'll every grow a thick skin, yet as she held the invitation to the Alpha's son birthday soiree, She couldn't help but think differently.

"Mother!" Pamala yelled. She dashed into the house, screaming on top of her lungs, this was a very significant celebration in the pack. Their pack Blue lake pack ranked among the top packs in the world, it was strong, it had population, it was developed. It was a blessing to be in this pack, but it was a bigger regret to be born Omega. It had subjected them to a life of poverty, her mother worked as a gardener, her father as a cleaner. They didn't have much, just enough to live by, but she was grateful for everything, she appreciated her parents effort to provide for her.

"Why are you screaming everywhere. Isn't it quite late for this?" Her mother Kala asked. She cleaned her wet hands on her clothes as she walked into the living room.

"Look at this?" She shoved the invite into her hands, wide and excited eyes shun, waiting eagerly for kala to read the content of the letter.

"What Is this?" Kala asked curiously as she unfolded the letter bit by bit. Her face displayed a hint of nervousness.

"From the Alpha," Fear and anxiety gripped her. "What have you done again?!" She asked fearfully, or the question should be what had she not done, being an omega was already a problem, sometimes Pamala would come back home with bruises, she'd never wanted to disclose the source of those wounds, but her mother was very much familiar with it. There was little to nothing she could do to help their situation.

Pamala rolled her eye, growing impatient,"Just read it first, Mother."

Blue lake pack,

The Alpha.

AN INVITATION TO THE BIRTHDAY SOIREE OF DAMIEN STONE

We cordially  invite you to the twentieth birthday celebration of the Alpha's son, Damien stone. A very significant day in the pack. You're expected to be present to share in the joy of the celebration.

Yours faithfully,

Alpha Derrick stone.

Kala's face was ghost white when she finished reading the letter, she almost couldn't believe it. This birthday party meant a lot to the pack, only nobles attended, how were they invited? They were neither beta's, gamma's or deltas, not healers or even enforcers, but the very bottom of the hierarchy.

"No no no. Something's wrong somewhere. This can't be, we can't be invited." she shook her head as she began to pant around the room as if in deep thought.

"Mama, something good is finally happening to us, can't you see? Why can't you just accept it. We've been invited to the Alpha's house. You know I clocked eighteen two weeks ago, this is my chance, an opportunity to find my mate. Maybe I'll see him there." She walked to kala and grabbed her by the shoulders.

"Relax Ma, look at the bright side. Like you and dad, I could find my mate, someone to love me for me, despite my flaws, despite me being an Omega." She sighed dreamily.

Pamala knew she wasn't the most attractive person out there, at five foot five she was considered average or above, but weighing 160lbs wasn't considered exactly beautiful. In her opinion her hips were too wide, she had a stomach pouch, she had arm fat. But her mother always said her face was her most prized possession, with bottle green eyes, heart shaped lips, a fine symmetric nose and the most astounding ginger curly hair.

Pamala didn't believe it, her hair wasn't pretty like the red head you'll find on social media and fall in love with them. It was wild, frizzy and untamed like Merida from brave. If She was as courageous or as slim, she would have thought herself to be Merida.

"Do we attend?" Kala asked nervously.

"Of course mom we will. I can't give up a chance to find my mate, an opportunity to see the world. But What do I wear?" She panicked. Her mother seem to recover from her shock, as it dawned on her.

" It's tomorrow, I need a dress, a formal evening dress, I need to look good. I should call jade, she'll know what to do. We need to buy a dress" She picked up her cellphone dialing a number saved as best friend.

Kala face fell as she saw the excitement in her child's face, tears welled up her eyes at the thought of not being able to afford luxury "We can't afford new clothes, Pamala. Maybe we'll find something in your wardrobe."

"And why does Pamala need a new dress?" Her father called walking into the house and hearing the last bits of the conversation.

"Dad, look here." Pamala handed over the letter to her father. He read it, different emotions displaying at once on his face, from surprise, to disbelief and then sadness.

"How are we invited?" He wondered.

"I kept asking myself, the same damn question." Kala placed her hands on her hips, confused like him.

"Father, this could turn out to be really good for us."

His smiled gently, exhaustion obvious on his face."I know, I know. It's just that I'm quite shocked. Is that why you need a new dress, Pam?"

"I-i, I can figure out something, I'm sure there's something nice in my wardrobe. " She suddenly said. She knew how hard her parents struggled, she didn't want to add to their burdens.

"No pam. We'll get you a new dress, this is the first time you've shown that you really want something. I'll do anything to make you happy, my little girl." he said fondly, she dashed to him in a hug. Tears forming in her eyes, she loved this man so much.

"Okay, who's cutting onions. I'm suddenly teary." Kala sniffed.

"I have some money I saved over the month in my room, I'll quickly get it." He excused himself.

The guilt began to hit Pamala, what if at the end the event wasn't worth it. They didn't need to go hungry over the next couple of days because she needed to buy a dress, She needed to stay positive, her intuition told her things would turn good and she needed to trust her gut feeling.

"Whatever you're thinking, stop. Stop worrying too much, my dear" Her mother said caressing her face, she let out a small smile. In a few minutes her father came down holding a small stack of Cash, he handed it to her.

"Get yourself a Nice dress, shoes too, maybe even jewelries if it's enough."

"This, it is too much." She took only half of it. "I have my own little savings." She said.

"Alright." He agreed before walking back to the room, kala went to continue her cooking in the kitchen.

Dialing her friend's number hurriedly, she couldn't wait for jade to pick the phone. Soon as jade did She found herself rambling, the call finally ended with jade agreeing to come over. She sat on the chair in the living room, tapping her feet nervously until she heard the long awaited knock.

"Jade!" She exclaimed excitedly. Her friend was a pretty blonde, with striking blue eyes, fine curves to fit into the society standard for beauty. Jade, a kappa, they were ordinary and regular members of the pack, nothing extraordinary, also listed in the least of the hierarchy, but to Pamala it was better to be a kappa, than an omega. One couldn't choose which rank they were born to, it was the bloodline and the rank of the parents that determined a werewolves status.

"What's all the fuss about?" She grinned.

We got an invite to the Alpha's son birthday party." Pamala said excitedly.

"What?! I did too." Jade squealed, they shared a brief excited hug.

"Keep it down!" Her mother yelled from the kitchen.

"Sorry kala." Jade said. "Soooo, what are you wearing?"

Pamala rolled her eyes " That's why I called. We're going shopping!" She announced excitedly.

"Do you have money for that?" Jade whispered.

Removing a small stack of Cash from her jean pocket she showed it to jade "My dad gave this to me, I'll add my own saving, it can get us a good nice dress."

"Okay, great. I have this really cute evening dress, I'll just get shoes, but you my dear, you need a beautiful gown, we need to show them that least ranked wolves can also look hot.. We have to go right now, it's tomorrow." She said almost dragging Pamala out.

"Wait for dinner before you leave!" Kala yelled again from the kitchen.

"When we come back, mother." She ran out of the small apartment. Jade's scooter vehicle was parked by the road side, they quickly made way into it.

"I can't stop being anxious for tomorrow." Pamala sighed.

"Same here, I wonder if we're going to find our mates."

"I hope we do." She said looking out from the window in the car.

"What do you think he'll look like. Maybe he'll be an Iota wolf, maybe a salutary Wolf. I don't want to dream too much, or a kappa like me. Jade said.

"If he's a kappa, I'll be grateful, at least there'll be a chance my child won't be an omega. If he's also an Omega, I don't know how I'll handle that." The thought stung, she knew of the severe bullying she had gone through, she didn't want anybody to go through the same fate, it was cruel.

"Okay, no more brooding. We're here." She killed the engine of the car. They got to one of the retail shops for evening dresses. The shop attendant frowned in disdain at the sight of them, her displeasure written all over her face. She almost didn't want to attend to them. Pamala was used to the expression on people's faces wherever she went. Sometimes she wondered why the moon goddess subjected her to such cruelty. She must really hate her.

"Can you please show us evening dresses for Pamala. Something to suit her hair, eyes and skin. We'll like to browse through a few options, please. She's a size 16" Jade did the spokesman job Pamala was too shy for.

"I don't even think anything would suit her, she's too fat." She sneered.

"Don't talk to her like that!" Jade barked and Pamala held her arm stopping her from causing a scene.

"Come with me."The shop attendant said, forcing the words out of her mouth. They followed her, she removed a few dresses from the racks handing it to jade, as if scared that touching Pamala would give her a virus.

"You can change in there." She pointed at the small demarcation. Jade gave Pamala the first blue dress. She took it and went to change, having trouble with the zip, she could barely fit. She groaned in frustration, pulling the dress down she called Jade for another one.

"You can't keep trying dresses, if you have no intentions of buying them. No customer will like to try a dress that an Omega has worn." The attendant said.

"We're here to buy a dress, if you don't want us here, we'll live. We aren't beggars. You should be lucky we're here seeing that this shop hasn't seen a single customer for weeks" Jade fumed.

"We'll take this one." Pamala randomly reached for a white dress.

"But Pam-" Jade protested.

"Common." She dragged jade by the hand as they paid for the dress and left the shop.

"For a small shop that's almost out of business they sure have the nerve. Look at the old out if style dresses in there, something my grandmother wouldn't even wear." Pamala said angrily as she drove them. "What about shoes?"

"It's a long dress. What I'll wear on my feet wouldn't matter, I just want to go home." Her voice was small, no matter how many times she was insulted or maltreated it didn't make the feeling any better, she could never develop a thick skin.

"Are you sure?" Seeing that Pamala didn't answer she resigned."okay fine. I have spare jewelries. I could give them to you."

Pamala let her eyes scan the dress, although she had chosen it in a moment of haste, it was such a beautiful dress. The bodice had little crystals with a small v-neck cut out, it was sleeveless. She could tell it'll cling only to the waist and the rest of the lace will Pour out.

"I just hope it fits" She said.

"It sure has to, we didn't pay that much money for it not to." Jade teased.

"It'lll hide my stomach nicely. I don't like the fact it's armless, I have fat arms. It's embarrassing."

"Stop saying that. You're a beautiful, beautiful girl. I don't know how many times I have to tell you for you to believe it." Jade said. Pamala smiled gratefully. "I'll do your makeup tomorrow, you're shit at it. And I'll fix your hair something has to be done about it."

"Thank you so much Jade, I don't know what I'll do without you."

"I know , I know." She laughed.

As they drove into the ugly part of town, once again she was reminded of their situation. Tomorrow will mean a lot her, she hoped it'll Change her life for good. Life will get better, and they'll live comfortably well.

"Moon goddess, if you're listening. Please change my fate." She muttered the quick prayer, waving jade a goodbye as she stepped out of the car.

She got Into the house, the smell of dinner hitting her nostrils, reminding her how hungry she was. She dropped the dress on the bed in her room, going straight to the kitchen.

"How was your shopping?" Her mother asked serving the food in the plates as Pamala assisted her in doing so .

"It was good" she replied softly, careful not to give anything away.

"Saw a nice dress you like?"

"Yes, a white dress, looks like a wedding dress. But it's really beautiful " she quickly added, her face beaming.

"I'm glad you did. Help me set the table, and call your father down for dinner."

She nodded before doing as told by setting the table and going to call her father down for dinner, they all sat down together shared a prayer to the moon goddess asking her to bless the food and they ate. Whatever meal her mother cooked she always ate with no complain, no matter how insufficient it was. She talked to her father about the dress she got, leaving her nasty encounter with the shop attendant behind. When the dinner ended she went to her room, the dress lay on bed, She stared at it dreamily. It's been so long She dressed up, she didn't even attend prom because her peers in school were horrible to her. Finishing highschool had been a blessing. Now she could concentrate on her life, find a job and support her parents. That was reality for her. But her luck could change tomorrow, deep down in a tiny place in her heart she wished her mate would be a sentinel or even a Delta, it was a ridiculous thought, but nothing was impossible.
