CHAPTER 7

“Guilty or innocent, my love is infinite. I have become a prisoner of fate.”

Daisy’s POV

My reply had caused an uproar, the murmuring in the hall was deafening. Their disapproving stare was all too familiar now.

It was as if the walls were closing in on me, “this can’t be,” one elder shouted, his voice higher than the others.

“Silence,” Elder Yin roared, his voice echoing through the hall.

My feet felt weak, it was like it was about to give out beneath me. Each bone in my body was screaming in pain.

Elder Mark’s eyes were fixed on me, his eyebrows quirked as he noticed the discomfort on my face.

“give her a chair,” he said to the guard.

“she obviously looks like she needs it,” he shrugged.

“Daisy,” Elder Yin called, his eyes narrowing as he leaned forward.

“do you know what this means?” he asked.

I shook my head no, my fingers playing with the hem of my dress, “it has been unheard of, the moon goddess has never given an omega to be mated to an alpha before, talk more of the Alpha King,”

“but that isn’t the most intriguing part is it?” Elder Yin stated.

“Being a second chance mate has never been heard of,” he muttered like it was a mysterious discovery.

“somehow you are mated to a man betrothed to your sister,” he added

Their words stung like it were daggers thrown at my chest, I never wanted this, I wasn’t one to challenge the natural order of the pack.

But here I was, fighting for a crime, I had no control over. “the moon goddess should be here, she made this mess,” I thought to myself.

“I.. I never wanted any of this, I love my sister,” I cried, the words stumbling out of my mouth before I could stop them.

My eyes flickered to Astrid, her stone cold expression softened as she noticed the tear that rolled down my cheeks. For a second, I thought I saw a glimmer of something in her eyes, doubt? Pity? But it was gone before I blinked.

“but here we are, with you parading yourself as the Alpha king’s mate,” my father spat, his voice filled with contempt.

“You have been nothing but a shame to this family. And today you have taken the only thing that brought her happiness,”

My eyes blurred with tears, I couldn’t believe my father thought so low of me.

“Alpha,” Elder Yin cautioned.

My father growled before settling back into his chair. “Daisy,” Elder Yin addressed me.

“have you at any point had any contact with the Alpha king, prior to the ceremony?”

My eyes widened, and I nervously licked my lips, thinking of the best possible way to tell my family and the council of elders that I have had sexual interactions with Hades.

“enough,” Hades’ voice broke through, the power in his voice cutting through the tension in the room like it was a blade.

All eyes were fixed on him as he rose from his seat. His broad shoulders rolled back as he moved closer to where I was seated.

“the moon goddess had given me a mate I never requested for, but that doesn’t mean I accept her to be my queen,” he said.

It was like I was punched in the stomach, the intensity of his words snapping me back into reality.

“Elder Yin, how can the bond be broken?” Hades asked, his face emotionless.

My mouth was open, the words stuck in my throat, “it has caused enough problems as it is, this chaos must stop,” he added.

Elder Yin’s face had turned red, “Alpha King, it’s only Selene the moon goddess that can break the bond,”

“What if we banish her, won’t the bond be broken if she becomes a rogue?” Kane suggested.

My body froze at the mention of banishment. A wolf’s strength comes from her pack and if that is taken away the wolf is nothing.

“this isn’t how it works Kane,” Elder Yin countered. “making her a rogue won’t change the fact that she is already claimed to the Alpha king,”

“Please, don’t banish me,” I pleaded, my eyes desperate as it darted around the room.

“I might know of the solution, though it has been unheard of, in our time mates weren’t rejected, but times are changing” Elder Yin said.

“Go on then, out with it,” Hades growled, his eyes flashing black signaling the presence of his wolf.

“The mate bond was created on the night of the wolf moon, then it can only be broken on the same night,” Elder Yin said.

“the Wolf moon ceremony is a year away,” Astrid shrieked.

“Astrid,” my father whispered, placing his hands on her shoulder.

“No father, you can’t accept this, Hades is mine,” she screamed, storming out of the hall.

I had the urge to run after her, to give her the comfort she so desperately needed, but I also knew I was the last person she wanted to see at the moment.

“Continue,” Hades sighed.

“by the next wolf moon ceremony, I would have figured a way to break the bond,” elder yin replied.

“what about the mate pull, and what happens if she goes into heat? What then?” Elder Mark asked.

“the mate pull can be controlled, and she cannot go into heat with being marked by her true mate,” Elder Yin explained.

“Sounds fair enough,” Hades replied.

“prepare to join your sister and I, we leave for my kingdom tomorrow,” Hades commanded, storming out of the council hall.

“you are excused Daisy,” an elder said.

And with a curt nod, I walked out of her council hall with an ultimatum hanging over my head.

The walk back to the servant quarters felt long, I knew the pack members where itching to know what had been decided.

“I heard she rushed in front of her sister, making the Alpha King to mistakenly clam her as his mate,”

The theories were endless, each one sounded more absurd than the former, I was like a insect trapped in a spider’s web, each string had it’s danger lurking.

I knew I had one goal, the moon goddess has given me a chance and I have one year to prove myself to Hades.
