“They said not everything is about me. But why do their eyes follow me around?”
Daisy’s POV I could hear their whispers with each step I took, their judgmental eyes scrutinizing every move I made. “How could she do that to her sister?” I heard someone whisper. No matter how hard I tried to make myself look small to stay hidden from their gaze, it was futile, the news had already spread and it was hanging over my head like a huge poster. Miss Ruth stood at the entrance her lips in a frown as she took in my appearance, my blood shot eyes and red cheeks were evidence of the unpleasant night I had. “You are late,” her cold voice broke through, if eyes were silver bullets I would have been drowning in a pool of my blood. “I’m sorry, I..” my voice croaked. “save your stories, get cleaned immediately, the council of elders are expecting you,” miss Ruth interrupted. The mention of the council of elders had my heart beating wildly in my chest. You must have to commit the highest form of treason to be charged to face them. “Was being mated to the Alpha king a treason?” I asked myself, as I walked into the servant quarters. “Just the slut I was looking for,” Lyra called from the hallway. The busy hallway became silent, each eyes filled with excitement as they watched the drama that was about to unfold. “I really don’t want any trouble Lyra,” I whispered, my voice cracking as I spoke. Lyra smirked, “no trouble here, I just want you to answer this question that has been plaguing my mind,” “how did you do it, huh? Was it a witch that helped you?” she taunted, each question came with a shove. I bit my lips tightly, holding in the scream that threatened to break out, Lyra knew her strength, each shove felt like a barrel was propelled to my shoulder. “Lyra please,” I winced, hating myself for looking weak. “We all know you have been jealous of Astrid,” Lyra sneered. I gasped, my eyes wide as the intensity of her accusation hit me, “I would never do anything to hurt my sister, I love her,” I screamed at Lyra. “But you just had to take what she loved the most,” Lyra’s lackey commented from behind her. I knew it was fruitless arguing with them, it was like the more I tried to plead my cause the more they found holes to poke. I screamed as a hand pushed me from behind, causing me to fall on my already swollen wrist. “We don’t want a slut like you around our mates,” a voice shouted, kicking my ribs as chants filled the hallway. I scrunched my body, hiding my face to avoid the kicks, “what’s going on here?” miss Ruth’s voice thundered. The girls took a step back, eyes filled with fear of miss Ruth’s wrath. “we were just talking before Daisy here attacked Lyra,” a voice said from the crowd. “is this true miss Lyra?” miss Ruth asked. Lyra had a solemn look on her face, “I was only talking to her, when she rushed towards me with her claws out,” I wanted to scream “liar!” but I knew it would be my word against theirs. Lyra was the beta’s daughter, and it would be unwise to even try to pin such accusation on her. “Leave,” miss Ruth commanded the maids, leaving only Lyra and I in her presence. “I’m so sorry miss Lyra, but be rest assured that Daisy would pay for raising her hand against a high ranked wolf,” miss Ruth said. “thank you miss Ruth,” Lyra said strutting out of the building. “Daisy, I expect you to be ready by the time the guards come to accompany you,” The door closed behind me, it felt like I could finally breathe, “why me? Goddess why me?” I sighed, wiping the tear that flowed down my cheeks. I was crying a lot lately, it was as though each tear was a catalyst for another disaster. The pack bond was wavering, I could feel how disgruntled they were with the revelation of me being Hades’ mate. “daisy,” a knock on the door startled me, and with quickened steps I rushed towards the door, wincing as my bones groaned at the movement. “The council is ready for you,” the guard address, the bored look on his face was evident that this was the last place he wanted to be. I acknowledged the guard with a nod, my throat constricted as words seem to have failed me. The council hall was located in the far east side of the pack, it’s long pathway way was like a runway for the dejected and accused. My palms were sweaty as we approached the door, my stomach queasy at the idea that the room was filled with people who would only pass judgement to serve the Alpha. The large door groaned as it was pushed open, “go in,” the guard commanded roughly pushing me into the hall. The loud chatters In the hall quieted down, their eyes analyzing me like I was under a microscope. “Daisy Smith, come forward,” an elder addressed, his gentle voice did nothing to calm the turmoil in my heart. “Good day Elders, Alpha, Alpha king,” I greeted with a bow. My father scoffed, turning his gaze away from me. My eyes found Astrid who sat perfectly dressed beside Hades like a true queen. Hades eyes were cold, different from the man who had been kind the night we met at no man’s land. The eyes that were once filled with warmth and desire that had me lost in them were now distant, like he was plagued with a memory he never wanted to remember. “do you know why you are here?” Elder Yin asked, his voice filled with authority. I gulped, nervously scratching my fingernails, as I cleared my throat. “because I am the.. the Alpha king’s mate,” I managed to say in a low voice.“Guilty or innocent, my love is infinite. I have become a prisoner of fate.”Daisy’s POVMy reply had caused an uproar, the murmuring in the hall was deafening. Their disapproving stare was all too familiar now.It was as if the walls were closing in on me, “this can’t be,” one elder shouted, his voice higher than the others.“Silence,” Elder Yin roared, his voice echoing through the hall.My feet felt weak, it was like it was about to give out beneath me. Each bone in my body was screaming in pain.Elder Mark’s eyes were fixed on me, his eyebrows quirked as he noticed the discomfort on my face.“give her a chair,” he said to the guard.“she obviously looks like she needs it,” he shrugged.“Daisy,” Elder Yin called, his eyes narrowing as he leaned forward.“do you know what this means?” he asked.I shook my head no, my fingers playing with the hem of my dress, “it has been unheard of, the moon goddess has never given an omega to be mated to an alpha before, talk more of the Alpha King
“They say the road gets hard, and you get lost when you are led by blind faith.”Daisy’s POVCall me crazy but it felt like Hades had protected me back at the council hall. His intervention at the time, deflecting the attention from me when the question was asked had me grinning like a fool.I had decided to lock myself in, it was the only safe bet to avoid another run in with Lyra and her bunch of lackeys. My wrist had turned a nasty purple color but the fear of stepping out only made me ignore the pain.My head was filled with different scenarios of how Hades’ kingdom would be. I was eager for a fresh start, a clean slate maybe I would rebrand myself, smile more, yes smiling definitely helps in making new friends.“Goodbye you ugly looking gown,” I whispered to the maid’s outfit, “I dint think I will miss you either,” I muttered to the black shoe that had always left scars on my feet.I looked around the bare room, all that I owned was a few pieces of clothes and a pair of sandals.
“Like poison, love is vicious, and barely suspicious.”Daisy’s POV“Did you get your wrist checked out?” Hades asked from behind me. My eyes closed feeling the warmth from his body engulfing me.The cold morning breeze made a trail, weaving his scent through my body and filling my lungs with my latest addiction. “I didn’t have the time,” I replied, shaking my head to clear the fog that his presence had caused on my mind.“Come on,” he muttered, his fingers intertwining with my good wrist as he dragged me towards the direction of the pack’s clinic. My body felt alive under his touch. My eyes were focused on his broad back as he moved with such agility and grace. For all I knew he could be leading me to my execution and I would gladly follow him.“check her wrist, administer the right drugs to her,” he commanded the nurse.“yes Alpha King,” she replied with a curt bow.Hades’ presence in the corner of the room felt suffocating, his eyes were fixed on me, it felt like I was running out
“Put a price on emotion. Maybe then I could afford a minute of happiness.”Daisy’s POVI stood quietly watching the crowd welcome Astrid. “She is a beaut, isn’t it?” A voice said behind me.I jumped startled by the presence behind me, “goddess” I muttered.“Sorry, I tend to do that a lot,” the girl continued.“I’ve been told countless times that I should wear a bell around my neck but that would take the F right out of the fun,” she rattled.“Oh look at that, already yapping like a dog,” she laughed smacking her head.“Hi, I am Priya, you can call me Priya,” she finally introduced herself.“I’m Dai…”“ Daisy, I know, I mean everyone has heard of you, I must say your beauty supersedes your tale,” she stated, cutting me off.She must have noticed the grimace on my face, “no, no, I meant that in a good way, a few people are excited about the prospect of you being the Luna but the others, eh lets just call them the headless bunch,” she rambled.“I’m making it worse, aren’t I?” she sighed.
“Nothing I have, is truly mine.”Daisy’s POVOne thing was certain, Hades’ kingdom had a different dynamic from my pack. Miss Amy was like a mother figure to the maids in the servant quarters. She wasn’t as cold as miss Ruth had been.“Priya will show you to your room, breakfast is by six, during breakfast your duty will be read out to you” miss Amy said.“Thank you,” I replied, turning away from her.Our footsteps echoed against the cold tiles as we moved, the servant quarters looked exquisite like it was a castle.“This is bigger than my room in our pack,” I said, my eyes taking in the size of the room. The bathroom was twice of my former room.“I can’t imagine,” Priya said, shuddering like the thought had scared her.“So are these all your things,” she asked, pointing to the duffel bag that rested by the door.“Yes, that’s me,” I sighed. There wasn’t much from the pack to carry, I had lived my life like it was on rent, each day a fleeting uncertainty of what could have wouldn’t be
“In the middle of the night, it’s like a million stars are spelling your name, drawing you to me,” Daisy’s POV My broken sob woke me up, I could still feel the strain in my throat from screaming for my mother. With shaky hands I scrubbing of the tear streak that had lined on my face. I looked outside the window, the sky was decorated by stars, it was enchanting to see. “It’s just a bad dream,” I muttered to myself. It was perfectly normal to think I saw my mother in my dream. I mean I had just kissed her picture goodnight, it was pretty obvious I had been lucid dreaming. The hairs on my neck stood in alert, my senses screaming in warning, that I wasn’t alone. I slowly turned my gaze from the window, my eyes taking the shadowy figure that stood in the corner of the room. I scrambled out of the bed, screaming as I tried to rush towards the bathroom door. My assailant stood perfectly blocking the only door that lead to the corridor, my feet tangled with the bed covers,
“Give me a break, a girl isn’t young forever.”Daisy’s POVThe universe sure had a great sense of humor.“Daisy, you are in charge of cleaning the Alpha King’s bedroom,” miss Amy said.I choked on the water I was sipping, causing me to go into a coughing fit. Just on my first day of resuming I am given such a great task.No one needed to tell me that Astrid’s hand was in on this. I could sense their curious glances, watching intently to see what I would do.After I had calm down from my fit, I smiled through my teeth, “Okay Miss Amy,”If they thought they would see my cry, they should think again, my tear duct had dried up since last night.Miss Amy nodded, her eyes with pity as she addressed me “Jade would show you were the cleaning supplies are kept.”I turned my head to the direction she had pointed, in search of Jade, my eyes met with cold hazel colored ones. Her lips curled up in a snare.“great,” I mumbled, my appetite long forgotten. With a groan I stood up from the chair, walk
“Anger and agony are better than misery.”Daisy’s POVI couldn’t wipe away the smug look on Astrid’s face from my mind.“If you do find my panties, discard it, Hades likes ripping things off,” her voice taunted my mind.My fingers had turned numb from how hard I had scrubbed the ground, hoping to drown out her voice. The same lips that had kissed me was the same lips that brought her pleasure, tears prickled in my eyes as I pictured what had happened on the bed.I tried holding breath as I changed the sheets, I didn’t need to abuse my senses with what was avoid.I kept on chatting in my head to hold it in together till I was safely tucked in my bed in the servants quarters. The door opened again, my heart dropped in my chest, I crossed my fingers praying it wasn’t Hades, I wasn’t ready to face him.The sound of Lyra and Astrid chattering could be heard as they moved in, I released the breath I was holding.I could handle them, but Hades was on another spectrum of I will lose my mind.
