CHAPTER 6

“They said not everything is about me. But why do their eyes follow me around?”

Daisy’s POV

I could hear their whispers with each step I took, their judgmental eyes scrutinizing every move I made.

“How could she do that to her sister?” I heard someone whisper.

No matter how hard I tried to make myself look small to stay hidden from their gaze, it was futile, the news had already spread and it was hanging over my head like a huge poster.

Miss Ruth stood at the entrance her lips in a frown as she took in my appearance, my blood shot eyes and red cheeks were evidence of the unpleasant night I had.

“You are late,” her cold voice broke through, if eyes were silver bullets I would have been drowning in a pool of my blood.

“I’m sorry, I..” my voice croaked.

“save your stories, get cleaned immediately, the council of elders are expecting you,” miss Ruth interrupted.

The mention of the council of elders had my heart beating wildly in my chest. You must have to commit the highest form of treason to be charged to face them.

“Was being mated to the Alpha king a treason?” I asked myself, as I walked into the servant quarters.

“Just the slut I was looking for,” Lyra called from the hallway.

The busy hallway became silent, each eyes filled with excitement as they watched the drama that was about to unfold.

“I really don’t want any trouble Lyra,” I whispered, my voice cracking as I spoke.

Lyra smirked, “no trouble here, I just want you to answer this question that has been plaguing my mind,”

“how did you do it, huh? Was it a witch that helped you?” she taunted, each question came with a shove.

I bit my lips tightly, holding in the scream that threatened to break out, Lyra knew her strength, each shove felt like a barrel was propelled to my shoulder.

“Lyra please,” I winced, hating myself for looking weak.

“We all know you have been jealous of Astrid,” Lyra sneered.

I gasped, my eyes wide as the intensity of her accusation hit me, “I would never do anything to hurt my sister, I love her,” I screamed at Lyra.

“But you just had to take what she loved the most,” Lyra’s lackey commented from behind her.

I knew it was fruitless arguing with them, it was like the more I tried to plead my cause the more they found holes to poke.

I screamed as a hand pushed me from behind, causing me to fall on my already swollen wrist.

“We don’t want a slut like you around our mates,” a voice shouted, kicking my ribs as chants filled the hallway.

I scrunched my body, hiding my face to avoid the kicks, “what’s going on here?” miss Ruth’s voice thundered.

The girls took a step back, eyes filled with fear of miss Ruth’s wrath.

“we were just talking before Daisy here attacked Lyra,” a voice said from the crowd.

“is this true miss Lyra?” miss Ruth asked.

Lyra had a solemn look on her face, “I was only talking to her, when she rushed towards me with her claws out,”

I wanted to scream “liar!” but I knew it would be my word against theirs. Lyra was the beta’s daughter, and it would be unwise to even try to pin such accusation on her.

“Leave,” miss Ruth commanded the maids, leaving only Lyra and I in her presence.

“I’m so sorry miss Lyra, but be rest assured that Daisy would pay for raising her hand against a high ranked wolf,” miss Ruth said.

“thank you miss Ruth,” Lyra said strutting out of the building.

“Daisy, I expect you to be ready by the time the guards come to accompany you,”

The door closed behind me, it felt like I could finally breathe, “why me? Goddess why me?” I sighed, wiping the tear that flowed down my cheeks.

I was crying a lot lately, it was as though each tear was a catalyst for another disaster.

The pack bond was wavering, I could feel how disgruntled they were with the revelation of me being Hades’ mate.

“daisy,” a knock on the door startled me, and with quickened steps I rushed towards the door, wincing as my bones groaned at the movement.

“The council is ready for you,” the guard address, the bored look on his face was evident that this was the last place he wanted to be.

I acknowledged the guard with a nod, my throat constricted as words seem to have failed me.

The council hall was located in the far east side of the pack, it’s long pathway way was like a runway for the dejected and accused.

My palms were sweaty as we approached the door, my stomach queasy at the idea that the room was filled with people who would only pass judgement to serve the Alpha.

The large door groaned as it was pushed open, “go in,” the guard commanded roughly pushing me into the hall.

The loud chatters In the hall quieted down, their eyes analyzing me like I was under a microscope.

“Daisy Smith, come forward,” an elder addressed, his gentle voice did nothing to calm the turmoil in my heart.

“Good day Elders, Alpha, Alpha king,” I greeted with a bow.

My father scoffed, turning his gaze away from me. My eyes found Astrid who sat perfectly dressed beside Hades like a true queen.

Hades eyes were cold, different from the man who had been kind the night we met at no man’s land.

The eyes that were once filled with warmth and desire that had me lost in them were now distant, like he was plagued with a memory he never wanted to remember.

“do you know why you are here?” Elder Yin asked, his voice filled with authority.

I gulped, nervously scratching my fingernails, as I cleared my throat. “because I am the.. the Alpha king’s mate,” I managed to say in a low voice.
