Eira’s POV
My heart pounded hard against my chest as I sprinted across the dense forest, my own ragged breathing echoing in my ears. The air was thick with the scent of pine needles and damp earth, and the sound of my hasty footsteps mingling with the rustling of leaves. I could hear the sound of horses chasing after me. “ Find her and kill her!” The general’s voice echoed through the near silent forest. Tears streamed down my cheeks as fear gripped me. I didn't want to die, at least not now. “ Could I really outrun them?” I pondered as I ran as fast as I could. Lara had given me a map but there wasn't any time to look at it. “ Captain! I've found her!” One of the knights yelled and the next thing I heard was a wheezing sound. I fell to the ground as my leg gave in and an arrow went past my face and stuck into a tree - that had been the wheezing sound I had heard. My breath became more unsteady as I panicked, I stood up still dazed by what had happened, my body trembling all over. “ Don't let her escape! Now's our chance!” One of the knights shouted and I knew that now wasn't the time to process my emotions. Once more, I began running and though I was exhausted, I ran faster than how I had been running. It must have been due to my will to live. In-between the neighing of the horses and their galloping sound, I heard howls from behind me. Some of the knights had transmuted into their true form and since I was wolfless, I was at a disadvantage. “ She's in our range, Sir. Should we shoot?” Was the last thing I heard before I felt a stabbing pain in my shoulder slowing me down. I winced in pain as I struggled not to come crashing down. I looked back at the army that kept their distance alongside the werewolves that ensured I would not get past them, coupled with the archer that had stretched his bow. “ I don't wanna die,” I cried as the second arrow pierced through my chest. My eyes closed and I found myself falling down - there was a cliff I hadn't noticed and in a bid to escape they had cornered me into running towards that direction and with the distraction of the arrows, I ended up falling off the cliff and plunging into the water below. As I sank deeper, my consciousness drowned in the bubbles. “ Ha, was this really the end?” I thought, looking at the surface of the water one last time. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> I felt my body swaying peacefully from side to side - no, it wasn't my body necessarily, was I in a moving carriage? My thoughts about the afterlife weren't exactly what I think I was experiencing. The smell of fish pervaded the air - that was in all ways wrong. Wait, if I can smell the repulsive stench of piled up fish, where exactly was I? I inhaled deeply and sat up into an upright position, my whole body throbbed. I had been in a carriage all along. “ Where am I?” I muttered in pain, as I held onto my shoulders in excruciating pain. Just then, the carriage hit its wheels against a rock which sent me crashing against the walls of the carriage making me groan in agony. “ Hmm, you're awake? Are you alright?” I heard a middle-aged man’s voice. He was probably the one riding the carriage. “ Where am I? What's going on here?” I asked the moment he opened a small window at the front so he could check on me. “ We're about to enter the Azurethra Empire. I am a trader so I usually go out of the empire for days to get a certain type of fish that is in high demand and there I saw you floating near the river bank. I initially thought you were dead but when I pulled you back to shore, there was still some life in you, though you were badly injured so that's about that,” he answered as he whipped the reins of his horse. “ But… Ahh,” I grunted. “ I'll do my best to answer all your questions once we enter into Azurethra and you're properly treated,” he replied. After a while of riding, the carriage made a stop and I could hear the clinging sounds of armor. We were probably at the empire’s main entrance. “ Don't worry too much, it's just the regular routine to check everyone who wants to get in before letting them pass,” he explained even though I hadn't asked. He was nice, I could tell and I was grateful that he had helped a stranger like me. I heard the old man laughing with the knights, they must have seen him a tad too much and were probably acquainted by now. They went ahead to check the carriage, my eyes and that of the knights met. They seemed stunned but why? The old man had clearly told them previously that he had an injured person onboard. “ Sir Lewis! You have to see this for yourself!” One of the knights yelled. What was going on? Was I going to be arrested for some sort of crime? “ By all the gods! It's her!” The head of their segment rushed in to see me. “ Is there a problem, good sirs?” The middle-aged man who had saved me was just as confused as I was. “ Send a message to the Royal palace now!” Their leader yelled and some of the men scrambled to carry out his order. “ We'll escort you to the palace to ensure your safety,” they all knelt down and pledged. Did I miss something important here? Without any further delay, we had knights protecting our rickety carriage. After hours of moving, we finally got to the Royal palace which covered the space of the regular sized packs. Just how huge was this palace? The knights got some healers to tend to me the moment we got into the palace gates. They used magic to heal me? I had only ever heard of magic in tales, but I hadn't met werewolves that possessed magical abilities like healing or whatnot. Though my wounds couldn't heal completely according to them because of how weak my body was currently. I guess, the potency of their healing magic still depended on the victim somewhat. The knights took me into the main palace and into the throne room. I had so many questions to ask but I wasn't sure if anyone wanted to answer me right now and seeing the faces of the servants and knights that had lined up as we entered the throne room, I knew there was something they knew that I wasn't aware of. My enchanting blue eyes met the eyes of the Emperor and Empress. I could see the mixed emotions of sadness, compassion, guilt and happiness. Was this a necessary procedure for any newcomer to the empire to see the Royal family? The empress got up from her throne and ran towards me in tears. “ Cleo!” She cried as she embraced me. What the… “ W-what’s going on? Besides, I think you've got the wrong person, Your Highness,” I stated. My name wasn't Cleo. “ I know you're confused but I'll take my time to explain everything, okay?” She pulled away from me slightly examining my face. “ What in the world have you been through all the while you've been missing? I failed as a mother to protect you,” she cried. Mother? “ I missed you every single day, my princess,” the emperor hugged me. I hadn't noticed when he got up. “ Wait a minute, I don't know what you all are talking about. My name is Eira not Cleo. I think you've gotten the wrong person,” I apologized, pulling away from the hug. “ Not with that hair and color. Only a member of the royal family has this look,” the emperor stated. “ Do you get it now?” The empress took my hands in hers. “ You are back where you belong. You are our daughter and the crown prince of Azurethra Empire.” My eyes widened in shock. Was I really a long lost princess all along? How did this happen?Eira's POV Disjointed images flickered behind my eyelids - a grimy alleyway, the sting of a fresh wound, a kind face hovering above me. Then, blinding white, hushed voices, and the overwhelming warmth of a hand wrapped in mine. A throbbing pain pierced through my shoulder, dragging me back to reality with a gasp. My vision drifted, the sterile room tilting at an alarming angle. "Easy there, Cleo," a gentle voice soothed.Cleo? The unfamiliar name sent a jolt through me. Faint memories surfaced - a cheerful fishmonger, a grand palace, bewildered faces staring down at me. I was in the Imperial Infirmary, that much was clear from the hushed tones and the starched white sheets. I had fainted due to my wounds after the revelation of my true identity. The Emperor and Empress had a worried expression on their faces. Was my condition really that bad? I sincerely didn't want to worry them more than I already have. Overwhelmed, my vision blurred, the room tilting once
Eira's POV I was lying on the bed, scrutinizing the detailed ceiling with a mixture of worry and excitement . This was the night; the one where I was to be presented to the empire officially as its princess. It has been a month since I had arrived in this gilded cage, learning grace in etiquette, dancing and history for thirty days. The idea of standing in front of the imperial court whose members would expectantly stare at me made shivers run down my spine . Yet, I felt a bit thrilled to be in this situation. “Princess Cleo,” Mona’s voice, soft and kind, pulled me away from my thoughts. “Are you hearing what I am saying?” I blinked at her worried expression. Mona, who was my maid-in-waiting, had become something more than just a servant to me. We grew close nearly instantly, she was sincere and yet not easily swayed. I could tell she genuinely liked me for who I am not my title. In many ways she had become both an advisor and my reference point, you could say we had be
Eira's POV My eyes rested on the Grand Cross son. He had wine red hair and intimidating amber eyes with a tall muscular body - he had a medium build so he was just right. He stood beside the Grand Duke's son. His tan skin complimented his hair and eye color so perfectly. Mom must have noticed my fascination which made her clear her throat to get my attention. “ Cleo, this is Kia Charlemagne, a Grand Commander and the son of the Grand Cross. And this is Anakin Valois, the son of the Grand Duke as well as a Grand Commander,” mom introduced. Grand Commander? At their age? My jaw dropped slightly. Kia looked barely older than twenty-four and same goes for Anakin. How did they achieve that at this age? My eyes settled on Anakin. I hadn't taken a proper look at him because I was so lost in Kia’s handsomeness - not that I mean anything by that. On the other hand, Anakin was the total opposite of Kia. He was slender and had a feminine look to him, maybe that had so
Eira's POV This was getting awkward, especially for me. With the gaze of the whole empire on I and Kia, I regretted my choice. I might have been able to endure this if he didn't look at me with those piercing eyes of his like that. “ Just kill me,” I muttered. “ Huh? You want me to dance with you? What makes you think I'd agree to that?” He snapped. I knew I shouldn't have acted impulsively. “ T-that's…” I stuttered. How was I going to explain him that I didn't even pre-plan what just happened!? “ First, you have me become your personal guard and trainer just because you're the princess and now you want to make me your dance partner. You've got to be kidding me,” he scoffed. I knew my parents had ruined his image of me. “ Well, I'm here for the sauce,” Anakin watched in amusement rather than help resolve. What was I really expecting from him? He was clearly acting exactly how I had assumed he would. “ Are you going to use your position or the
Eira's POV The next week I heard my door swing open violently but I couldn't be bothered to see who it was. Well, I could already guess. My parents wouldn't do such and no maid could do the only person it can be is… “ Your Highness! You're going to be late!” Mona exclaimed, breathless. “ Urgh! I don't have anything doing, my tutors aren't coming today either,” I groaned, snuggling up my duvet. “ Are you really going back to sleep again? Do you even know what today is?” Mona asked frustrated. I was genuinely the one frustrated at this point because she was interrupting my sleep. “ It's a day in the week. Happy?” “ Argh! Sometimes, you can be so…impossible,” she groaned. She didn't say anything for a few seconds, she was probably calming herself. I couldn't be bothered right now. “ Today is Monday. Did you forget you are to have classes with Sir Kia?” She reminded calmly. “ What did you just say?” I sat up like a log of wood. “ You've been daydreaming about Sir Kia f
Eira's POV “ How am I going to explain myself now?” I mumbled. “ I'm sorry, Your Highness but I can't help you with this. I'll be sitting in the arena watching you, just try not to die on me,” Mona bowed before leaving I and Sir Kia on the training ground. “ Do you have an issue keeping up with time, Princess Cleo?” He growled. “ I…,” telling him I slept in due to my forgetfulness would only make things worse. “ You have training with me today but you decided to take your good time to arrive. Do you really think I have nothing better to do?” He asked rhetorically. “ I-its not that. I just totally forgot that I had training with you today,” I mumbled the last part. “ If I drag this out for too long, I might eventually speak out of line,” he inhaled to calm himself. At least, he didn't make me serve any punishment. “ Get on the ground and give me fifty,” he ordered. “ W-what? ” I stuttered. He didn't mean what I think he said - just when I was
Eira's POV As much as I had been anticipating lunch due to all the training I had gone through this morning, what I wasn't expecting was having these two at the table. “ It's like you don't age, Your Majesty. Tell me your secret,” Anakin rested his chin on his interlocked fingers. I was yet to understand why my parents seemed more like Sir Kia and Sir Anakin's uncle and aunty rather than some royal figures. Leaving that aside, why was I made to sit between them? It felt like every essence of this pair of best friends haunted my very existence. This was awkward. “ Anakin, are you trying to flirt with my wife?” Dad questioned with a chuckle. “ Certainly not, Your Majesty,” Anakin laughed. “ It's just us now, Anakin. You and Kia can talk casually,” dad shrugged. “ Yes, I prefer that. Don't you think so too, Kia?” Mom smiled. Was I the only person here who had no clue what was going on? “ If you say so, uncle,” Anakin addressed dad. “ Since when
Eira's POV Their conversation went on. I was barely interested anymore after Kia’s words. “ You'll be moving in today, right?” Mom asked Kia. “ Yes. Since I'm to protect Princess Cleo, it would be best to move on here,” he answered with a small nod. “ I'm moving in too with him,” Anakin beamed, once again finding a way to latch on. “ Are you sure about that? You're not even training Cleo,” dad was a bit concerned. “ Don't overthink it, uncle. It's not a bother at all and besides, I've decided to train Princess Cleo on a certain area,” his gaze moved from my dad to me. My normal self would have shoved his face aside but I barely even had appetite to eat, talk more of dealing with Anakin. “ If you say so,” dad agreed. “ Why aren't you eating? You've been picking at your food for a while now,” Anakin was always the first to notice minor things like this. “ Didn't I tell you to go to the Royal infirmary? Why are you so stubborn? I don't really care
