Chapter 97

Elias POV

The feel of her body relaxing against mine tells me she is finally asleep, and I let out a sigh of relief.

"Thank the goddess," I whisper under my breath, gently resting my head on hers. My body too requires rest, but my mind and instincts are telling me to stay alert, for there could be danger around every corner. So for now, I'll stay awake so she can rest in peace, knowing I am keeping guard.

The coach comes to a jolty stop to let more passengers on every so often until the vehicle is fully full. After which we don't stop for several hours as we travel through the night and eventually, I also surrender to my body's need to sleep.

My dreams plague me with what could be a waiting us once we arrive home. I see blood and destruction everywhere I look. I hear the howling cries of those I love and care for, being overpowered and hurt by others I don't recognise. My home no longer feels like home, it's been claimed by them, her, him, and they
