Chapter 100

Tears silently fall from my eyes as we run hand in hand from the cell and out of the building, too scared to look back. With the cover of night, we flee to the tree line unseen. Once there, we stop for a moment to catch our breath and to check that no one is following us. As I force myself to calmly take deep breaths, I pull myself together and scold myself for being emotional and for losing control at a time like this. Leroy grips my hand tighter in reassurance before pulling me further into the woods,

"Come on, we've got to keep going. We can't stay here." I nod and follow suit as he leads me onwards. We run until our legs and feet can carry us no more, and by that point, we are miles away from the pack house. "Okay," Leroy pants, "think we can rest for a bit."
