Chapter 3

Once we arrived home I headed upstairs while Haven got in the shower. Katrina would be here any moment with the Human sacrifice. I always kept them in my home for the night. My hospitality was a welcome gift for them waiting to be sacrificed.

They rarely change their minds, and only one woman had ever tried to run… I caught her easily though, she was no match for my powers. I had hoped Haven wouldn’t find out who dropped off the sacrifice, I didn’t want to deal with another situation like this afternoon.

“Man being in a relationship is fucking hard. Always having to worry about someone else's feelings. Ugh.” I said to Titan. “Well, you chose this, fucker.” Titan roared back. I rolled my eyes as Katrina started walking up to the front door.

I opened it before she could knock. She was looking extremely alluring in her black cloak covering her black lace tank top and mini skirt with combat boots. I was trying not to check her out, but man that was hard.

All of my feelings for Katrina were rushing to the forefront of my mind, and it was everything I had not to grab her and disappear somewhere we could be alone.

Fuck Haven and what she thinks, Katrina was my number 1, and it was like I suddenly remembered it. “Having trouble keeping your promises?” Katrina asked with a smirk. “Oh darlin, you know I was never good at things like that… And you wore that on purpose, didn’t you?” I said, raising one eyebrow at her.

“I plead the 5th.” Katrina said and rolled her eyes with a smile. She was irresistible, and not controlling. What was I doing with Haven anyways?” Just as I started to doubt my feelings, Haven walked up into the foyer.

“Honey, who is at the door?” Her angelic voice purred and calmed all my doubts once again. “It’s Katrina, she’s delivering the sacrifice for tomorrow's event. We are to house her for the night, and we meet with the Hybrids tomorrow to do the blood exchange. Then we deliver her to the ceremony. This is something I have always done.” I explained.

Haven’s face hardened at the mention of Katrina but calmed down after I explained why she was here. “Ok.” She said with a smile and walked back upstairs.

“Ok, I need to get my head back in the game… Help me out here.” I hollered at my Wolf. “Oh, Katrina, you’re so terrible, and ugly… Yaaa, don't forget ugly. Oh, and you suck at giving head.” Titan howled in my mind.

“Not helping.” I cackled. “Can’t blame a Wolf for trying.” He said back with a shrug.

“Ok, back to business. And who is this delectable creature?” I asked Katrina. “This is Ari. She’s Human.” Katrina said. “Well, I know that… They are all Human, darlin.” I said to Katrina and had to fight not to wink at her, as I grabbed Ari's hand and kissed the back of it.

A deep blush racked Ari’s face at my actions. She was very taken with me, but they usually are. Normally, we have a little fun before the ceremony… But this would be the exception, much to Ari’s dismay, I'm sure.

I didn't let go of Ari’s hand. Come with me, princess. I purred, and I could see her melting under my gaze. She was a pretty little thing. Petite and blonde with blue eyes and a decent rack. She will make a good Hybrid. I thought.

I pulled the sweet little thing into my arms and locked eyes with Katrina. “You sure you want to be with Haven still?” Katrina asked, with a snarky grin. “You’re going to miss all the fun.” Katrina said while pointing at Ari who was still nestled in my arms with her head on my chest.

God damnit. She wasn’t wrong. I definitely wanted to have fun with Ari before turning her over to the Hybrids for the blood exchange tomorrow. I took a deep breath in to try and calm my mind, but it was racing.

“Bye Ramses.” Katrina purred and she turned and started walking down the path away from my house.

“You really like her, don’t you?” Ari said, snapping me from my barrage of thoughts and emotions. “Oh no princess, I don’t like her. I am infatuated with her.” I replied with a smile. “Shall we?” I asked Ari and gestured for her to follow me.

“I will be hosting you this evening.” I stated, as we headed upstairs to one of my many guest quarters. “This will be your room for the night. I have servants that live here and they are at your disposal. Rosa is across the hallway if you need anything. She will bring your dinner shortly.” I said to Ari.

“Wow, this room is gorgeous.” She said, as she took in the sight. She walked straight in and sat on the four-poster bed in the middle of the room. It was black with bronze accents, as much of my home decor was. She then looked at me and smiled. “Thank you, Ramses.” She said.

In a normal situation this is where I would seduce her and ravage her petite body right here on this bed until she was begging me to stop. It would be her last Human night, and her best, no doubt. But I was a changed man.

I turned to walk away and leave her be, when she stopped me. “Ramses?” I turned back around in the doorway. “Yes, princess?” I replied. “Do you think it’s worth being changed into a Hybrid?” She said timidly. She was halfway to me from the bed, and she stopped awkwardly.

It was the first inkling of her being afraid that I had seen thus far. I couldn't blame her though. It was not exactly fun to be turned… But the outcome would outweigh being a Human 100%.

“Listen, princess. It may seem scary to be sacrificed. But just know you will come back better, stronger, faster… And immortal. Trust me, it will be worth every second of pain you endure in the end.” I said while closing the gap between us.

I had a strange urge to comfort her. That was something I was used to though. This was the ritual. It was my job to comfort the sacrifices woes. I had been doing this for a millennia.

I took her soft face in my palm. “Trust me, you will be better off when this is over. I promise.” I said softly. I could see her melting with my simple words. Humans had the hardest time resisting us.

As Reavers, everything about us is made to reel them in. We are beautiful creatures, even our scent is made to draw them in. If only any of them actually listened to their instincts rather than mistaking them for butterflies…

Ari was no exception. She leaned in to kiss me, and I hesitated for a moment…. But I had absolutely no willpower. So, I gave in, smashing my lips against hers with a feral hunger.

She placed her hands on either side of my face, and I picked her up walking her over to the bed. Our lips never left each other’s. I pulled away from our kiss just long enough to throw Ari down on her back and then proceeded to climb on top of her, smashing our lips together once again in a more feral way.

Her soft moans while my hands explored her body were fuel to my already raging fire. Being with Ari had me feeling some feelings I had previously forgotten.

I was motherfucking Ramses, King of the underworld. I was a wanderer. I did whatever I wanted, with whoever I wanted, whenever I wanted. I wasn’t tied down, and I sure as hell didn’t have a damn girlfriend. Who the fuck does Haven think she is? All those thoughts I was going to express to her when I saw her next. But all of that went straight out the window when Haven walked in on us.

She cleared her throat, causing me to stop in my tracks. Suddenly all of the feelings I had just been thinking disappeared, and my need to please Haven was all that was left behind. I stopped my pursuit of Ari, and climbed down off the bed, adjusting my suit.

I tried to think of something funny to say to lighten the mood, clearly Haven was pissed. “I was just warming up, darlin.” I said to her with a grin. She did not like that at all.

“Leave the sacrifice alone. Remember who you belong to.” She snapped before she turned and walked out of the door. I turned back to Ari. “I’m sorry, I don’t know what came over me. If you need anything, Rosa is across the hall.” I said to her, and then I turned and walked towards the door.

“Ramses?” Ari said, I turned to look at her. “Yes?” I replied. “There is something off about that woman, please be careful around her.” She said. I nodded to her and walked out shutting her bedroom door behind her.

Why would a Human sacrifice be worried about me? I knew she could feel Haven’s daggers when she caught us, which was normal. But why was I so enthralled with a Human if I wanted to be with Haven? Did I even want to be with Haven? It seemed to me that I only wanted to be with Haven when I was around Haven, which struck me weird. Why would that be so? It was like she had some imaginary pull on me that only worked when we were in close proximity.

“Fuck, I need to get rid of her.” I said to Titan. But before he could answer Haven walked up and took me by the hand, erasing every doubt I previously had from my mind. “It’s time for bed, we have a long day tomorrow.” She snarled. Even pissed she was absolutely gorgeous. I was once again confident in us and had no doubts. Things were fine, I was fine.

In any normal situation I would have loved this, but something that the Human sacrifice had said was really sticking in my mind. ‘There is something off about that woman, please be careful around her.’ Her words were circling my mind like a hawk circling his prey. I knew something was off, something was different, I just couldn’t place it. And I couldn’t seem to get away from Haven for long enough to think clearly. Even right now I was struggling to think clearly. I needed to get out of here, but I just couldn’t bring myself to do it. Every time I had a negative thought about Haven and our relationship it was like she was in my mind changing my thoughts. She can’t do that though, can she?My thoughts were all over the place and I had no idea how to know what was real and what wasn’t. I couldn’t fight it any longer, whatever was in my mind wa

Chapter 5Come morning it was time to grab Ari and head to the blood exchange with the Hybrids. This is where things always got a little dicey. The Hybrids had bad tempers and they always knew how to press my buttons. I’m not one to keep to myself and so there is always conflict. But I promised Katrina, and this was my due diligence. I had to prepare Ari, and deliver her safe from hard to the sacrifice tonight. I had been doing this for years, I wasn’t about to mess things up now. Once Haven and myself were up and going we headed to Rowen’s home to grab Ari. I knocked on my brother's front door and the maid from last night opened it shortly. She was eyeballing me in a manner that Haven didn’t like. “Keep your wandering eyes to yourself, kitty.” Haven snarled at the maid who purposefully looked straight at her and winked, which I thought was hilarious. Then she turned and motioned for us to follow her. She was dusting the shelves and objects on the walls as we walked to the foyer wh

Then they helped the Elder up as well. His part was now done. The blood exchange was complete. When Ari locked eyes with me I could see the change already happening. Contrary to popular belief, a Wolf can change regardless of the full moon. This was our next step. She would be hearing her Wolf spirit soon, and my next job was to get her to shift. She had to shift for her first time before the ceremony tonight or the ritual would have been for nothing. The Elders motioned for her to start walking towards the door where I was standing. She ran straight into my arms and I could feel her shaking. She could feel the power of the Wolf spirit manifesting, and it was manifesting with a vengeance. This is the part where I coach her into accepting her Wolf spirit and letting her inside… And then the part

Like I told your Wolf, I needed to scare you into shifting early. If I hadn’t you wouldn't have come back after the ritual.” I explained. I could see her expression change as she started to calm down. I snapped and produced her a new ritual dress since she shifted and ruined the old one. But the old one was only for the blood exchange anyways. The dress for tonight was identical to the one she previously had on, but it was black with crystals. I handed it to her, and then stood and turned my back so she could change. “You really scared me, you know. I honestly thought you were going to kill me, Ramses.” Ari stammered. “I know, darlin. It was the only way, I’m sorry.” I said, my back still towards her while she changed. She walked up and grabbed my hand and turned me towards her. To my surprise

Chapter 8The next part was the sacrifice. Normally, one of the Witches grabs the ritual knife and slits the sacrifice’s throat, and then stabs her through the heart. It’s a little brutal to watch, but that's the ritual. This time it was Katrina’s turn. It was nothing she hadn’t done multiple times over the years, and nothing I hadn’t seen her do. Everything started out normal. Katrina stood and walked to the altar, picked up the ritual knife and headed over towards Ari. When she got to Ari she looked up and we locked eyes. I could see something sparkling in her gaze, something devious. That was strange... I watched as she snapped, which was unusual, then I noticed two of my men approach the altar with Haven bound and restricted in their arms. She was screaming through her gag, or at least trying to. They threw her down at Katrinas feet, bowed to Katrina, then turned around and walked away. What the fuck was she doing? I thought. But I knew better than to interrupt her.She ignored

Katrina buried her face in my chest. I knew she didn’t want to face her sisters. They both just stood there waiting for her to say something while I tried to console her. After a moment, she pulled herself out of my arms and faced them both. “Look, I know what I did was wrong… But it was for a damn good reason.” Katrina stammered. “Oh yea? And what could be a good enough reason for you to risk your magic??” Kember shot back. Katrina looked at me and I nodded to her. She looked back at her sisters and took a breath in. “Haven was a Forsaken. She had been messing with Ramses’ memories, and those of a couple of his brothers. I couldn’t let her get away with whatever she was secretly plannin

Chapter 10I materialized all three of us to my house. We set Haven in one of the guest rooms and left the dagger in her chest while we decided just how to go about this. When Haven comes back as a Human, she was going to be pissed. She would have no powers. She would start to age and have to learn to live her life as a Human. I didn’t even feel one bit bad for her either, especially after knowing all of the shit she stirred up. A Human life would be fitting for her. I decided we should go talk to my brother Raziel first before we did anything. That way we could see if the Human town along the edge of the Wolf pack bordering his lands would even be a good fit for Haven to begin with. Katrina agreed, so we materialized to my brother's front gate. Katrina gasped as she took in the sight of Raziel’s home. It was similar to mine. So similar, that you could definitely tell we were brothers. “It’s majestic, isn’t it?” I said to Katrina. “You guys are definitely related.” She replied. “Oh

I was trying so hard not to react to him, but he must have noticed. “Is my proximity affecting you, little Witch?” Raziel asked. “Um, no.” I stammered but his pet name made my heart flutter. He then stepped closer to me, we were only inches apart now. I was bombarded by the smell of his cologne, and it was heavenly to my nose. My hormones were going absolutely wild, and I fought back the urge to reach out and touch him. “How about now?” He purred. A furious blush spread across my cheeks, my thoughts were all over the place. I swallowed the lump that formed in my throat, and attempted to take a step back, but it was as if Raziel anticipated my next move, because he reached out and placed his hand on the small of my back, stopping me from moving. I gasped involuntarily at his touch, to which his face remained emotionless but his eyes showed approval. He liked the game. This was something he enjoyed and a

As much as I don’t want to leave you, because you are bad ass as fuck, my friend… I have to get back to Katrina.” I said to my Wolf. “What was she crying about earlier anyways?” I asked Titan. “Oh, you saw that?” Titan said sheepishly. “Well by accident, I came around the corner to tell Katrina something and saw her crying holding onto you. I thought it was better to let her be, so I just turned around and kept working.” I said. “Oh, yea… Well, she was just having a hard time with Rowen leaving soon. We could chalk it off as a random occurrence.I let out a sigh of relief. As much as I was going to miss Rowen, I really wanted Ramses back. I was starting to come to terms with Rowen being gone, and I figured now was as good a time as any to talk to him about it all.“Rowen, can we talk for a while?” I asked him. “Of course, doll. It seemed like every section was something different. Multiple times on this floor I had women run up to me and try to pull me into their areas to help with whatever it was they were doing at the time. I had to politely decline and keep on track. It could be so distracting in here, I didn’t see how Ramses got anything accomplished with all these women trying to stop him all the time. I just ignored everyone and found the elevator but it was already going up, it was on floor 11 when it stopped. “Strange… I thought I was the only one using the elevator. I might be able to access the damaged parts and possibly help put them back together? “Rowen! What if we tethered myself to Ramses? I could go into his mind and possibly help find the damaged parts and fix them.” I said, sitting up out of bed and straddling Rowen so he had to listen to me and couldn’t get away. We had never done anything like this before, and so we honestly had no idea what to expect. I was extremely grateful for Rowen. He stayed with me this entire time, never leaving me alone. I knew he didn’t want to stay, he wanted to cut ties with me the night Ramses went into his coma. But once he didn’t wake up, Rowen couldn’t bear to leave me alone. I don’t think I could ever repay him, honestly. The week was spent mostly stressing about Ramses and how to help him heal.
