{ Olina }
I’m slack against Ryn’s chest as I try to catch my breathe. Our little sexcapade session was fast and hot and my heart was racing at an inhumane speed.
“So baby,” my ears perk up at the tone he has so I raise my head and look at him. Sure enough, his face shows that he is trying to bring something up that he isn’t sure about. “When do you wan-”
His eyes glaze over and his demeanor changes instantly. All his muscles tense up and I can practically feel his anger.
“I fucking knew it!” he growls out in a terrifying tone. He gently lifts me and puts me on the floor, kisses my forehead and then sprints to the bedroom.
What the hell…
“Ryn what is happening?” I yell as I run to the bedroom after him, only to find he is already fully dressed and slipping on his boots.
I wait and beat and come into the room where they are. I see them shaking hands and they both look up when I knock on the wall. But I’m honestly not sure what to say.“You can come in, Oly.” Quai says.We stand there in silence. None of us speaking, none of us touching, just the weight of the evening sitting between us. I didn’t want to know what they may have saw tonight. I saw enough. I didn’t want to ask how they were, because I knew damn well how they were. There wasn’t anything I could say to help. This wasn’t something that could be helped by words. After another few minutes Quai simply held out his hand to me. I looked at it for a second and then place mine in it. He squeezed it gently. Ryn put his hand out for my other one, and I happily placed mine in his as well.“If this becomes a war, I’m going to ask for the crown immediately.”
“I didn’t know that being mated to the Princess meant that I would constantly be awoken at 6am.” Ryn mutters behind me as he buries his face in my back. “I hate to tell you this, but this one is on you General.” I tease him as my brother’s voice echoes through the wood door. “I’ll come in, I swear.” Quai hollers. Ryn strings together swear words In between laying kisses on my shoulders and then flips the covers off him. “I have no clothes,” Ryn yells back to Quai. “I gotta run home, might take me a few minutes or… hours.” He shoots me a wink. Suddenly the door opens and Ryn is standing there in his boxers as Quai walks in and throws a duffle at him. “Sorry to ruin that plan but Mom already went to get you both clothes as a thank you for staying here last night.” Quai smirks. He side eyes me carefully and I laugh. “I’m decent
I felt Olina stiffen next to me. That word carried more weight now than ever before. We used to play war, pretend we were heros, running our imaginary kingdom. We used to use the word in school, reenact history, talk about war as if it was hypothetical only. But now we sit here as actual leaders, with the lives of thousands of wolves in our hands.“I understand how that word makes us all feel, the weight of it does not escape me. However, what’s done is done. The attack on Olina while Syn was in our pack and the fact he took over the Alpha position without the King’s approval were both instances that went against the Kingdom’s laws, and then he attacked Water Rock with no motive other than pursuit of power. Now, we were still discussing mediation, and trying to talk some sense into him when the attack first started, however as we approaches Water Rock’s territory last night, our wolves were met by the patrols of Syn’s pack. Th
I took deep breathes as my father spoke. Despite the lengths I’ve gone to calm my mate down about what was about to happen, the truth was far from what I told him. Were the chances extremely slim that Lana and Quai would die before they had a child? Yes. Were they just as slim they would die before that child turned 18? also yes. That being said, we were werewolves. And our duty didn’t end when they had their first child. That child would be the crown princes or princess, but Goddess forbid something happened to them before that child was 18, we would be the next in line to take the thrown until they were of age.I knew that Waryn knew this. I also know that he just needed some reassurance that I believed as much as he did that that wasn’t going to happen. And I had a feeling he viewed it as he wouldn’t allow that to happen, since it was literally his job.Nonetheless, here we were.I felt fingers
“I don’t give a shit what he wants, I want to know if he will agree to meet with me.”I pace outside the door with Lana. We had been busying ourselves with work that was needed. That is, until we found out that after 5 long days Quai had finally gotten some sort of contact back from Syn. We didn’t want to barge in as we arrived after the phone call started. Unfortunately, it didn’t sound like he was actually talking to Syn.Another minute of frustration from Quai and his office door opened.“Come in already” Ryn tells us as he shakes his head and we feign innocence.“You don’t have to wait,, you can just come in. You are the two most powerful women in this kingdom, for crying out loud.” Quai says with a smirk on his face as he greets us. He extends a hand and Lana immediately goes to him and snuggles into his lap.&ldquo
{ Waryn }I watch as her gaze softens when I speak. I don’t want to scare her. I wish with every fiber of my being I could comfort her right now. Console her, and tell her there wasn’t some maniac who was looking to murder her family and take their crown. But the reality is that there is. And that maniac is her first mate. The reality of the situation hits her harder, in a way I don’t think anyone really sees but me.“where are you going?” she asks as she walks up closer to me.“Nowhere at the moment. Quai and I will be getting everyone set up who is in the battalions that are leaving, but then we are also going to be in meetings most of the night with the remainder of the warriors. I’ve spent weeks coming up with a new defensive for our pack, and I need to get everyone on the same page to initiate it.”“I didn’t know you were doing that.” she says
I slipped out the door once I was dressed and nodded hello to the warrior stationed just a few feet from our cabin. Ever since things escalated, WAryn insisted, as did my father. The warrior nodded back and then followed at a distance as I made my way to the castle. Once I was at the entrance I turned and did a once over of the training fields. Some of them were still in fact training fields as training continues despite a war. But two of the fields were no covered in white medical tents for the wounded as they recover. There were two more tents just like this at the EAst and South holdings. They made my heart ache.On my way to the library entrance, I passed by Lana. She waved me over as she was discussing something with one of the kitchen staff.“Hi darling, how are things?” she asked, her words diving deeper than they seemed.“Restless at the East I guess, gone before sunrise.&rd
I straightened up and fumbled my jacket like I was trying to fix it and had just dropped something. The woman, who looked about 5 years older than myself, walked up and greeted me.“Hey, are you alright?” She looked me up and down. I had made sure to change into normal clothes. I Was rocking a hoodie and jeans with vans sneakers. I looked like a regular teenager from this pack.“Yes, I was just… there was this guy that I didn’t want to run into” I tell her, lowering my voice. She lets out a laugh, a good one.“Oh, gotcha, been there. Need a hand getting by him?”“Actually, that would be awesome.”“Where are you headed?”“Not that way,” I joke as I throw my head back the way I came and she laughs again before nodding.
We all look to my dad in confusion and he repeats himself, this time I don’t miss the tone that slips into his words. It was one I recognized from when we were younger and he thought we were lying to him about something.“Olina, what new disadvantage are you at?”I glance at my mother and her eyes shift from calm to suspicious and meet mine as well. Shit, we haven’t told them yet. I find my mate’s eyes and he nods his head towards them with a small smile on his face. He leans over and whispers in my ear.“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to, but its a good time to tell them”“Easy for you to say” I whisper back. He kissed my cheek and then helps me to my feet. I walk over to where Dad’s bed is and lean against it, arms length from them. I don’t say anything though. I just place my hand on my stomach protectively, and glance down at it. They follow my movements.“Inopportune timing, huh?” I ask with a small laugh, unable to hold back my smile though. I meet their eyes and see my mother’s hand
“That makes more sense.”I turn and see Quai resting on his elbows watching us and listening. I rush over to give him a hug and he returns it.“That explains everything.” Ryn says, reiterating what Quai said. “Especially about the witch’s origins, how this began, and why they are after your father and brother.”“They are basing all of this on the fact that they don’t believe you can be Queen though? I mean that seems like a lot to leave up to chance, I’d bet they are going to kill you too.” A growl erupts behind me while Quai is talking and I just roll my eyes.“Like hell..” Ryn mutters.“You know what I mean,”Quai defends as he lays back down.Ryn stands up and walks over to me. I have to lean back to be able to look into his eyes. He hovers over me, his eyes moving from my eyes to my mouth to my chest to my nose to my lips again. His gaze alone is enough to make my skin burn and my chest pound.“So, mate, what is our next move?”“We set a trap.” I say quietly and he smirks, knowing
{ Ryn }I press my lips to her forehead and try to pry myself away from her but I can’t resist. It’s felt like ages since I’ve touched her and my entire body feels rejuvenated just from this simple contact so I lean down and press my lips to her, feels that release that she always gives me. My stress levels decrease, my brain clears. And I pull away before turning and running out the door. She is here. She is safe. She is here. And She is safe. I repeat this to myself and my wolf as I shift and head to the front line. They are safe.My wolf gently reminds me of the weight on my heart. I wasn’t trying to forget it, but it was so new that it still slips my mind. The doctors came in after they got her settled into the bed, attended to and ran her blood work and tests. They seemed to have assumed I didn’t know. They were right.I was leading a war right now, commanding thousands of soldiers and fighting along side them everyday. I had more blood on my hands than I’d care to reflect on. Bu
A soft beeping echoed through my ears when I finally woke up. I wasn’t sure how I knew, but I knew I’d been asleep for a long time. It was the most rested I had felt in weeks. I took in a deep breathe, and tears filled my eyes when his scent hit me. It washed over me, calming me yet also exciting me. My skin burns from not having contact with him for a few days now. Just before my eyes open, a feel sparks erupt on my hand and more tears come.“I know you are awake, Oly.” his voice is soft, but edgy. I know instantly, I’m not forgiven.I force my eyes open finally and he comes into view. His hair is a mess, but his shirt and pants are clean for the first time since the war started. He clearly hasn’t been at the front line today and that brings up a heap load of guilt. I had gotten information, good information, I knew what this war was about. But in the process I had gotten injured, I had done what I’d swore I wouldn’t do…. distract him.“I don’t suppose saying I’m sorry would mean muc
{ Ryn }“Commander”“Yes?”“The newest platoon has arrived at the south base.”“Good, have them switch out with the 304th and send them back to main pack lands for rest and recouping. Please advise the medical crew of more wounded wolves coming in as well.”“Right away.”I crack my neck as another division leader leaves my tent. My joints are stiff and achy from being in wolf form and sleeping on the ground if I’m sleeping at all. Physically I could still carry a train, but it was beginning to wear on me bit by bit. Thankfully my brain was still sharp as a whip and I was seeing the light at the end of the tunnel with this war if I could get us through the messiest part we were in now.“Anything?”Quai steps into the tent, covered in dried blood and in just shorts like I am. We have been more wolf than man since the war started and uniforms aren’t exactly practical in a werewolf war.“Yeah, the new platoon just arrived.”“Good, news from the castle?”“Nothing today, no.”He nods and th
“With a date.”“What?”I look at him confused and he just smirks that stupid smirk I used to hate.“Preston what the fuck does that mean?”“It means, that place is a stronghold. The only way in, is if you work there, or are going to a bedroom there.”Oh. Well, I’d already mentally prepared for the possibility of flirting my way in. But he had opened up another one.“Do you know anyone who works there and doesn’t hate you?”He looked offended but responded.“Yeah, I know a girl.”“Would she help us?”“I mean, we aren’t close. More like booty call buddies.”“That’s perfect!” I shout out and I can tell that amuses him.“Thanks, I’m pretty happy about it too, she is great.”“No not that part, but you could call her! And if she is here, with you, not in my bed, but here and she needs to take off say, her uniform, then I could borrow it.”“There are so many ways that is messed up.”“Oh please, help me. The hardest thing you have to do is screw a girl you regularly screw.”Again, that same o
He passed by the door and went straight into my bedroom. Was he the one sleeping here?My mind flashed back to the memory of the day we got the call from Carlisle, the mediation call that turned out to be a distraction. Carlisle had claimed to be the Beta. But was that true? If Preston was sleeping here, then it was definitely true. The Beta would be in the packhouse. Especially with an Alpha like Syn. They demand to know where their Beta is, because they don’t trust anyone, even them.He throws himself down on the bed, my bed, and I see his chest heave a few times. He hasn’t scented that I’m here. I mean to be fair, I barely have a scent, but he definitely was living here considering how comfortable he was and trusting he was alone without searching the house. I watched him through the crack of the door, unsure what to do. I decided that I would at least need to wait till he went to sleep but that could have been hours away. Unfortunately, I didn’t get the chance. He stood back up an
