ALISON’S POV
—Marina has been very kind and settled me in the room next to Miles’, which is very awkward because it’s just a damn wall separating us.Marina helps me put my clothes and things away.“Do you want to decorate the room dear?” Marina offers and that offer alone makes me realize that I will forever live in this room, until the very last day of my life.“Uh, sure.” I mutter as I awkwardly fold the last shirt before I stack it on the rest. “Oh great! Well if you’re done, come downstairs and we’ll go to the supply store for colour samples and ideas!” She beams, sounding very excited.I hum, nodding as I begin to pack my underwear into the shelves and she leaves me to do the rest.I smile at the thought of her wanting to help me, my mother was never as kind, the only time she was, was when guests would come around and that was the only time I was allowed to sit on her lap, hold her hand and the only time she gave me a kiss, not multiple, only one each time. She wanted sons, not girls and she made that very clear every time she would care and love for my brother but deny me, in front of my brother and in front of my father.I was raised by maids, but never the less, I trained like the men.I meet Marina downstairs and I hear her giggling. I slowly enter the kitchen and find a young man sitting across from where she’s standing.“Marina, come in!” She immediately spots me and makes me feel welcome.I gulp as I force a smile and when the guy turns to look at me, I tense at how good looking he is. “This is Jaiden, Miles’ beta and best friend of course. He brought over some colors I thought you might like.”I glance at Jaiden, his emerald orbs boring into my lighter green eyes and I begin to blush. “Luna.” He offers a very charming smile, bowing his head slightly. My hands are folded in front of me and my shoulders pull in and I scoff, shaking my head, “Please, call me Alison.”There’s no doubt that he’s only being kind to me because of Marina. He is Miles’ best friend after all, meaning that Miles already poisoned him against me.“It’s good to finally have a luna, if you need help with painting just give me a shout. It’s something I’m good at.” He turns on the chair, facing me.“Thanks, but I can do it.” I shrug. Since I was a kid, I loved painting and drawing, nothing ever took that away from me and it was the only thing my mother was proud about because I was just that good.Jaiden seems like the sincere type, like he actually meant that he wouldn’t mind helping me, but how can I trust him if he’s the idiot’s best friend?“Well if you change your mind, I’m a mind link away.” I must be imagining his grin, but if not - it is the most attractive thing I have seen today.Miles would be the definition of the perfect alpha if his bad manners didn’t taint his appeal, but that is not my problem. I am here to live and grow and soon, we will be forced to claim one another, in private or in front of a crowd, it really is his choice since I can’t force myself onto him. He’s strong, the way his biceps fill his shirts makes my eyes almost pop out of my head and his wolf is rather large, just like him.The front door slams, making me jump and the sudden shift in the air lets us all know who it is.Miles walks into the kitchen, glancing between his best friend and I and then at his mom.“Jaiden, a minute.” He grits out, his outlined jaw ticking. Jaiden stands up, “Excuse me.” He smiles before following Miles out of the house and he closes the door gently, unlike a certain someone.“Can I help with anything?” I ask and Marina shakes her head, “Unless you want to plan for an event.” She grins, her olive orbs shimmering. “What event?” I ask as I sit down on the seat Jaiden sat on.“Your Luna ceremony.” She beams, seeming so excited and happy that it squeezes my heart in a good way.“I wouldn’t mind helping.” I shrug, forcing a smile. I am trying to show the same joy as her, but I just can’t.Miles is a nightmare, he’s a heartbroken Alpha male who thinks he has everything under control, but he doesn’t and if he does not step up, he will lose everything, including me.“Well how about you arrange it and I help? It could teach you a lot and I would help if you make a mistake and teach you from wrong to right.” She shrugs, her brown copper hair shining in the light.“I think that’ll work.” I beam and she smiles ear to ear as she slides her paperwork over to me and starts explaining a lot of things. We’re interrupted by Miles coming into the kitchen and I fall silent, but his mum doesn’t. She continues to explain some thing I don’t quite hear because I’m too busy staring at Miles back as he opens the fridge door and takes out a bottle of water.Miles really is like a model, he has the perfect physique, perfect jawline, his nose is even perfect, but the way his sky blue eyes flick around to avoid me, is the prettiest.“Are you two almost done?” He leans the side of his hip against the kitchen counter, staring at the side of his mother’s face. “No, why?” She straightens her posture, her shoulders are pulled back and her eyes narrowed on him. I could tell something happened between them, but it was none of my business. “I want to make something to eat.” He shrugs, “Then go eat somewhere else.” She snaps back at him, but it’s worse because she has the calm mom tone.“This isn’t an office mother, why can’t you just leave?” He snaps back, but barking tone has Marina slapping him across the face, his head snapping to the side, his sky orbs locking on mine before he looks back at her.“I told you, I am not your punching bag.” She seethes, “Well it seems I am yours.” He mutters under his breath as he rounds the kitchen island, “What did you say?” She bellows, her voice echoing through the house as he walks towards the exit.He turns to face her, “Nothing, I’ll go eat somewhere.” He deadpans with a sarcastic smile and leaves. For some reason my heart aches for him, but I know nothing of the situation and can’t tell if that slap helped him find his way back to the ground on earth.MILES’S POV—I’ve never thought the day would come that I would find the love of my life and then lose her a month later…Emily, my mate…she had the purest brown orbs that soaked you in, filled your life with sweet memories and more. MILES’ POV—Walking into the house, I slam the door behind me, my hands itching just to punch something or someone.“Miles Armani!” My mother’s annoying screech comes from the living room and I make my way there, plopping down on the couch across them.I put my feet up on the coffee table, resting my hands behind my head.“How can I assist you?” I tease in a honorable manner. “Drop the act, I already heard what you did.” She drops her stack of papers on her lap, her one knee crossed over the other, her gaze hooded, anger radiating off her.I tut, clicking my tongue, “What did you expect from me?” I raise a brow, “That I accept her and swoon over her bleached hair?” My mother’s toes bounce up and down, her finger tapping against the paper stack beneath her hand.“I at least thought you’d have the courtesy to be polite.” She grits out, her jaw ticking with annoyance.“Courtesy?” I snort, “Like you had the courtesy to wait before arranging a marriage for me?” I cock my head and I pull
