Chapter 1
I awoke in a familiar room, feeling slightly groggy and disoriented. I struggled to keep my heavy eyelids open as I peeled myself from the bed. I fought the urge to lie back down as I got onto my feet and stretched my arms. It's Saturday, nearly midday, and I have a job to attend to, which is my only source of income to support myself and my tuition at college. I have no one to lean on and no family to ask for help. So no one will give me money if I lie here all day. I had to work hard for me to be able to live. To be quite honest, I don't see any reason Why do I have to keep living, why do I have to keep breathing, and why the f*ck do I need to keep working my ass off when I could've just chosen to die. In that way, I wouldn't need to suffer every day for being a lonely creature. I have no family, I have no friends. I have nothing.
No one will miss or notice when I die.
I shook my head and laughed to myself at the depressing thoughts that had crossed my mind.
Silly.
I headed straight to the bathroom and took off my nightdress, tossing it off to the basket filled with my used clothes, before I opened the shower and let the water fall through my body, washing the drowsiness in my system. I yelled when the cold water hit my heated skin, making my eyes nearly bulge out of their sockets. After a while, I got used to its sudden cold temperature and I began enjoying my bath.
After putting a towel around my body, I walked towards the sink and brushed my teeth. I usually brush my teeth first before going under the shower, but sometimes I feel like doing it as part of the last part of my morning routine. It's basically no longer a morning, but since I had just woken up, I called it one.
I wore a plain sweater, tight jeans, and a pair of old white shoes. After I dried my hair with the hair blower, I tied it up into a loose bun before I picked up my bag and headed out of the room in my apartment. I didn't bother going into my kitchen to find something to eat before I went to work. Mostly because there's literally no food in my cupboards or even leftovers in my fridge. Not that someone cares. I lived alone.
“Hi, Katia!” a woman's voice greeted me as I walked down the stairs of the three-story building where my apartment was located. It didn't startle me that she suddenly showed herself out of nowhere. I smelled and sensed her before I could even see her. However, no one knew of that.
“Hi, Analyn,” I said, my voice barely audible. I kept my gaze straight, not bothering to look at her.
“My mom prepared breakfast for you. It's an omelet. Here, take this. She would surely feel sad if you reject this.” Before I could say anything, she pushed the lunchbox on my chest as she blocked my way.
I sighed and took it from her, giving her a small smile. “Say my thanks to you, Anastasia,” I said, referring to her mother. “I'll go ahead.”
She grinned and jumped happily as I walked past her. I couldn't help but shake my head. They are my generous neighbors, giving me food from time to time even though I didn't ask them to. I'm grateful but didn't know how to express it to please them.
People say I'm dull, but I couldn't actually care less. I knew I'm aloof and I knew pretty well I'm weird but I gave no damn shit of it. They can say whatever they want to say, but I'll never change myself for them. If I can't fit into this society where everything matters to people, then f*ck everyone.
I sighed for the ninth time, leaning my head against the window of the bus that would take me to my workplace. It didn't affect me that much that it's practically freezing outside. Aside from the thin sweater I was wearing, the perk of being a normal person slash a werewolf is that I have my own heat.
I'm basically a rogue. I do not belong in any packs and have never planned on joining one in the future. They are nothing but some sort of coward werewolves who were sheltered their whole lives but still think they are superior to everyone else—that they are stronger and more powerful than rogues or any other race. The truth is, they are all cowards, hiding inside their pack, scared as kittens to wander around the world.
My stomach suddenly grumbled, reminding me how I had starved myself for two days now. It's not because I am too lazy to prepare a meal for myself or to buy something to eat. I just don't have an appetite to eat and fill my stomach.
Sighing for the ninth time, I looked down at the lunchbox on my lap and decided not to waste Anastasia's efforts upon sparing a moment to prepare this for me. Besides, my stomach was already begging to be filled, and I knew if I stayed like this—starving—I would collapse later.
Throughout the ride, I opened the lunch box and ate it in silence. Much to my delight, no one sat beside the vacant seat next to me. I finished the whole meal just in time for the bus stop to a station near my workplace. I picked my bag and got out, closing my eyes briefly as the sun hit my lilac eyes. The weather can be unpredictable at times. One minute it was freezing cold and now the sun was up. Just like life and death, it is unpredictable and yet inevitable.
I resumed walking towards the alley, leading me to an old shop, almost rotten to be exact. When I opened the door, I was greeted with the smell of old books. The smell invaded my nostrils, sending euphoria through my system. Just like that, a small smile appeared on my lips.
“Good afternoon, too, young lady,” a sarcastic voice of an old man snapped at me out. Tilting my head upwards, I saw him atop the stairs as he was finding some books on the tall shelf.
“What are you looking for?” I asked as I dropped my bag on the counter.
“An order,” he curtly replied. I covered my nose with my hand as he brushed off some dirt from the old book he picked.
“What order?” I inquired again, interested. Every order piqued my interest every time. It's not everyday you see an old—almost rotten shop—get a customer. Added to this is the fact that these customers are willing to pay huge prices for our old books. Our books' rate is no less than 1,500 dollars. Crazy, isn't it?
But I know why these books are pretty expensive. It's not just some normal book you can buy in bookstores worldwide. These are rare books you can only find in this shop. Some were ancient.
The old grumpy man, Fernando, said, “It's a book about the annual coming of age.”
My brows furrowed. “Coming of age? What's that?”
“You wouldn't know because you're a rogue,” he said, meaning to offend me, but I shrugged it off. He's always like that, saying offensive words to tease me, but I knew deep down he cared for my well-being. He wouldn't let me work here and pay me twice as much as my previous work if he didn't, right? I also had the privilege of not attending work if I felt like it.
“So?” I sat on the tool chair across the counter and leaned my face on my palm as I looked up at him with boredom.
“It's where all teens, specifically eighteen to nineteen years of age, would have to attend this ceremony and get to either mate with some wolf or attend the university for wolves like you. And being a rogue is not exempted.”
“What?” I sat straight, frowning and confused as f*ck.
“You heard me, right, Katia.” He slowly went down and shrugged the dirt off of his shoulder. He walked past me and slammed the heavy book on the counter, making me cough as the dust flew across my face.
“Why would someone want to buy a book like that?” I asked.
“We don't know.”
“Who bought it?”
“Anonymous.”
I squinted my eyes at him suspiciously. I knew he wasn't telling the truth. He knew who the buyer was, but he didn't want to share it with me. Not that it matters if I'd known or not. I also don't understand why he'd always want it to remain anonymous.
I scoffed at him and decided to leave the counter to start my work. I've been working here for more than 7 months and yet I wasn't given any heavy duty other than to keep this shop clean and organized. This old man right there has a habit of disarranging things, especially when he was looking for some books. He forgot where he hid.
I let Fernando do whatever he was doing while I continued my job. I wore my earphones and focused on my task. Arranging books, cleaning the floor, wiping some artifacts, and then I am washing some rugs in the sink. It made me wonder why Fernando doesn't want to change the location of his shop where we would be seen by the potential customers. It makes me wonder why he wouldn't want to reconstruct his shop knowing that his income is enough to pay for materials and pay some construction workers. However, I didn't question him about it. This old shop might be too sentimental for him, and I am not that insensitive enough to question his decision.
I was hardly concentrating on what I was doing when the door of this shop suddenly burst open. I nearly shrieked in surprise. My breath caught in my throat. A man stood in the doorway, dangerously. His presence was so intimidating and scary that it made me suffocate in some ways.
His silver eyes met mine all of a sudden. I unconsciously stepped back as my eyes widened in utter surprise. I saw him taking a deep breath before a low growl escaped from his throat.
My lips parted at the realization.
He's a werewolf...
“Alpha Reui,” Fernando uttered dumbfoundedly as he rushed toward his direction and bowed his head. But the intruder didn't even glance his way. His silver eyes were fixated solely on mine. It was so intense that it made my knees wobble and my heart beat frantically against my chest.
He took a calculated yet determined step towards me and I involuntarily stepped backwards. Fear crept up in my system and I found myself backing away from his intimidating presence. He let out an unamused growl, his eyes narrowing at me as if he wasn't pleased with my disobedience. I halted immediately, my chest heaving.
“A-Alpha?” Fernando asked, confusion laced in his voice. I opened my mouth to ask for his help, but no words came out. I'm doomed.
The guy whom I've recognized as an alpha startled me when I saw him standing before me all of a sudden. I gasped and looked up at him. He was tall. I had to crane my neck to see his face. But I immediately regretted my actions when our lips nearly touched.
I stumbled backwards, but then he took hold of me, preventing me from falling on the floor. A spark of pleasure ran up to my skin and spread all over my body as our skin collided against each other. I gasped at our proximity. Heat gushed through my veins and an intoxicating scent of fresh woods and caramel invaded my nostrils.
My wolf stirred within me and made a purring sound at the back of my head. My body suddenly went cold and stiff when the realization hit me.
“M-Mate,” I said dumbfoundedly.
Chapter 2“Mine...” A deep, baritone voice spoke against my ear, making me shiver in both delight and fear. I was afraid of the reality that I had just practically met my mate and of the fact that he wasn't a rogue like me, or at least a normal werewolf being. But a damn alpha!I couldn't find my voice as I froze against him. His nose nuzzled in the crook of my neck and shoulder. His hands held my waist firmly as if not wanting to let me go. I could feel my body betraying me, reacting sensuously to his mere touch. My wolf was purring and wanting me to rub myself against this stranger, whom she recognized as our mate. Unfortunately.“L-Let me go...” I struggled to say and tried to pull myself away from him. He didn't let me go, but instead, he tightened his grip on my waist and pulled me impossibly close to him.“You're mine.” A low growl rumbled against his chest. His breathing tickled my skin and gave me goosebumps. His body was hard as steel and his skin was hot as lava, burning me
Chapter 3I went back to my apartment, distraught. My head seems to be nearly exploding with too much information I have learned today. First, I met my mate, who was unfortunately an alpha. The second is about mandatory schooling. And thirdly, is about what Fernando told me before I left the shop.“They will take you tomorrow morning. Again, prepare yourself.”I don't know if I'd believe him or not. He must be kidding! It was barely 12 hours since I had met that freaking alpha and it wasn't that long ago when I learned about this mandatory thingy! No way on earth I am going to come with them! I will never belong to any pack! Over my dead body!I gritted my teeth and slumped down on the sofa of my apartment. Since the payment I am receiving from the part time job is quite huge, I have to rent the whole apartment by myself and I have to buy some furniture to add some decorations on this boring and pale room. The most favorite thing that I bought for myself was my bed. It was queen sized
Chapter 4I pushed him hard that he went tumbling on the floor. He clearly didn't expected it and fell. I gasped as my eyes widened. I knelt down almost immediately to see if I had gotten him injured. “Oh, my God! Are you okay? I'm so sorry. I-I didn't mean to do that! You had taken me by surprise I was so shocked that I pushed you. Oh, God. I'm really s-sorry,” I said, panicking as I inspected his state. He shook his head, smiling a little bit. “I'm fine. Thanks for worrying about me,” he spoke earnestly, making me snapped my head at him. His cheeks were painted with a light shade of pink and his eyes were sparkling with happiness. I almost arched a brow if I wasn't just worried about him.“Are you sure you're fine?” I asked again. The way I pushed him wasn't that hard but it wasn't also that weak. I had literally almost pushed him across this building! Reui cleared his throat as his expression changed. “Actually, I'm not fine. I think I had my bones broken,” he uttered.A loud gasp
Chapter 5The car pulled up in front of a huge mansion in the middle of the woods. He got out of the car and opened the passenger's seat before extending his hand for me to take, which I reluctantly did. My heart began beating faster and faster every seconds that passed. Before this huge mansion, we entered a very huge golden gate with a name “Exodus” engraved atop of it. I couldn't hide my amazement. It seems like I'm entering a very prestigious manor that only rich people could go in. I'm overwhelmed.Just... how wealthy is this guy right here?Fresh yet harsh wind hit my face as soon as I got out from the car. I closed my eyes to savour the feeling. The smell of wood and leaves invaded my nostrils, sending delightful sensation throughout my body. I've never thought that being in a place like this are as pleasing as when I am in a library. It almost feels painful to be in such a beautiful place like this.I sluggishly opened my eyes and the first thing I saw was his handsome face.
Chapter 6We ended up washing the plates together. I could sense that it pleased him to have me helping him. We didn't talk, but the silence doesn't make us uncomfortable, either. Our arms would brush against each other and neither one of us find it unnoticed. But we kept silent until we finished.“Come, I'll show you to our room.” He wrapped his arm around my waist.I rose a brow. “Excuse me? Are we going to share a room?” He scratched his nape. “Yeah, is that a problem?”I looked up at him flatly. “Are you freaking serious? Of course, it is a problem! You're a man and I'm a woman. It is inappropriate to share a room.”His brows furrowed. “But we're mates. We're going to share room in the near future, anyway.”I gritted my teeth. “Then, wait for that future. For now, I want to have a room for myself. Alone. And if you're going to insist then I'll talk to your mother about it.”He visibly paled. I smirked. I'm an observant person. Whilst having lunch with them, I noticed that the t
Chapter 7As soon as the girl was out of our sights, I let go of him and crossed my arms around my chest. I arched a brow while my jaw clenched.“Who was that girl?” He looked lost. His cheeks was still painted with pink and her ears are burning red. “W-Who?”I gritted my teeth. “Is she your girlfriend? If yes, then f*ck you. I shouldn't have really went here! I was peacefully living my life in the city and you've dragged me here, only to know that you are committed to someone before me?!”His brows furrowed. “Katia, I don't understand you—”“Oh, shut up! You know what I mean! That wench is your freaking girlfriend!”“Hey, no. You got a wrong idea—”“I believe this is my room, so therefore, I have the authority to kick you out, too. Go away!” I opened the door and pushed him out. “If you want to be with me, then you have to clear things up with your....” I wanted to say ‘slut’, but then I remembered that Catherine was the daughter of the former beta of this pack. I immediately come u
Chapter 8Things became awkward for the next few days of my stay in this pack house. After Reui swore to the Forest of Life, I finally realized he was saying the truth and all that I said to him were nothing but only an accusation. I was embarrassed. It feels like someone just punched me in the gut at the realization. Because of that, it only gave me more reasons not to go out of the room. Some maids would just bring my meals because I wasn't going down. The twins also visited me and I've became close to them somehow. They are sweet and a little bit psycho like their big brother but I found myself liking their company. It keeps me from losing my sanity.I don't know when are we going to depart towards the Ythuel University. I can't wait to leave because the awkward in this house was becoming more and more thicker. I can't freaking face Reui without blushing furiously out of embarrassment. Although he reassured me that it was all okay and he wasn't going to tease me with it, but still!
Chapter 9It's been been 2 days since Reui went to the neighbor pack to discuss things with his co-alpha. Just what he had suggested, I interacted with some members of his pack. Now that he was gone, I no longer feel awkward. Mommy Cam and Ingrid toured me around the pack house during the first day since Reui departed. Ingrid was just the same age as me and she's gonna be my aid while I stay here and she's also gonna come with me in the university since she's 18. I've learned that the class will start 3 weeks from now, which meant the school administration along with the werewolf authorities were still searching for every werewolves whose age are of 18 to 19.“Why do they need to forced teens to attend it? We're just having a peaceful lives out of any packs!” I whined as I slumped down on the couch with a junk food on my chest.“Well, it is already a law few centuries ago,” Ingrid tried to reason out but I just couldn't wrap my head around this stupid law they made. “You know what? T
Hello, I don't know if anyone is even reading this book but I have already stopped writing this one for a very long time due to personal matters and it's affecting my studies. I apologize for it. But I promise to finish this book within this year, hopefully. It was so hard for me to write whilst studying, so I momentarily stopped updating for a while, but as promised, I will be back and continue what I have started. Goodnovel is good to me and offered me contract so finishing this book is a must. That's all I have to say, thank you.
Chapter 17We played in the river for few hours. Just talking and laughing around. We only decided to stop when it's nearly lunch. We need to eat of course. I decided to shift on our way back to the pack house. Shifting on to my beautiful golden wolf, Reui could not stop wiggling his tails and licking my face while making some purring sounds. I licked his face back and and rubbed myself to him. We could not communicate yet but we already understood each other.I growled at him when he couldn't stop himself from nudging me from time to time and making begging noises. I know he wants me to lick him again so all my scent will scattered around him. He could not even stop rubbing himself to me while we were trotting back to the house! This clingy and possessive wolf! Gosh!He was the one to shift back to his human form. He handed me some spare clothes and I changed from the back of the trunk.I glared at him. “You're so clingy!”He grinned and shyly scratched his eyebrow. “Can't help it.
Chapter 16“Where's Catherine?” I asked. He shrugged. “Didn't we left her?”“Yes, but... didn't she say she'll tag along?”“She only said she wanted to see my wolf again, she never say she'll be a third wheel on our date for this day.”“D-Date?”“Yes. Date. We're now dating, right?”“Uhm, yes, but—”“Then date it is!” he exclaimed and punched in the air as a triumph smile appeared on his face.I scoffed and rolled my eyes. “Whatever.”He grinned. He took ahold of my hand and dragged me with him towards the huge rock. We sat there side by side with his hand couldn't stop but clinging on to me.“Why did you brought me here?” I asked.“I want to show you this river.”“The River of Eternal Life?” I frowned. “Why does it have a name? I mean, does it have some value on your pack... or whatnot?”“You probably haven't heard it,” he started. “Well, in this race, we have one Goddess that we worship.”“The Moon Goddess, right?”“Yep. Her name is Selena.”I nodded my head and poured all my attent
Chapter 15I watched, amazed, as a huge wolf rubbed his face against me as if wanting to be caressed. I held the huge, black wolf's face and kissed his forehead. I caressed his head.“Your wolf is quite impressive, Reui,” I said softly. He purred softly and rubbed his face against me. I giggled and couldn't help but to kiss him again and again.“He said, thank you,” Catherine spoke, ruining the good moment, of course, she would. After all, she's a bitch.“Ah...” I lamely said and nodded my head. I forgot that they could communicate through mindlink. Ingrid told me that once Reui and I mated, we were able to communicate as well through link, and so to the other members of this pack.“He said do you find him beautiful?” she said again.I am growing irritated to her presence but I held it out. I don't want to lash out over this things. I'm not that childish.“Of course, I find you beautiful, Reui. You're MY mate,” I said, emphasizing ‘my’ to provoke Catherine, which was successful becaus
Chapter 14 I woke up lying next to him. A smile graced upon my face as I saw his beautiful face looking so adorable. His lips were slightly open as he silently snore. His lashes was too visible to see because his eyes were closed. His red lips also looks so tempting to get a taste. I shook my head and giggled softly. I got up and headed towards the shower. I took my time cleaning myself before I went downstairs. I found mommy Cam cooking. I offered a help and she gladly accepted my offer. Both of us were chatting as we enjoy our bonding time together. I woke up around 5, and went downstairs around 6. After preparing the breakfast, I called Reui and the twins from their respective rooms. It's around 7 am now. “Wow, you cooked these?” he mused, looking at me happily. I sheepishly smiled. “No. I only help mommy Cam to prepare this. She cook these delicious food, not me.” “Ah, don't flatter me so much, dear. You help me with the cooking, so the credits shall go upon you, too. You're
Chapter 13“Clean the mess up.” Reui's voice came out cold as he spoke towards his men who came right after Reui had disposed all the rogues. The sun has finally set and it was starting to get dark.“Yes, alpha,” said by his men.He hugged my waist and pulled me close to him. I snuggled my face to his chest to prevent myself from seeing the horrible state of the four rogues who wished the harm us. When I saw the bloodied scene, I freaked out. I didn't know I'm scared to blood until today. Gosh, I experienced a lot of first times.Like, when I said to myself I liked him. Like how I climbed up to tree, like how I discovered I actually am scared of heights and blood. I didn't know any of it until now. I don't know whether to be glad or to be scared.“Let's go,” Reui softly said, only for me, as he gently rubbed my back. I shook my head, eyes closed tightly. I'm scared to open my eyes. “You don't want to?” he asked.I shook my head.“Hmm, how about I pick you up? Is that okay with my baby
Chapter 12“I am not planning to reject you, okay?” I said.“You don't?” he asked adorably with his eyes blinking.I shook my head. “No. Where did you got that ridiculous idea?”He looked away as his lips protruded.“Reui, look at me.” He did what was told. Our eyes locked. I heave a deep sigh. “Okay, I will give you a chance to change. I'm not saying I want you to totally change yourself. I like the way you are, just reduce being so possessive. It's not healthy and it's creeping me out to be quite frankly.”He nodded his head. “Okay then, starting from today onwards, I will try my hardest not to suffocate you. As long those men has no hidden agenda or feelings towards you, I would behave.” He smiled gratefully and held my hand. “Thank you, baby. Thanks for giving me a chance, and thanks for understanding my situation. Rest assured, I won't act that way ever again. I apologize to all the foul, offensive words I said to you whenever I lost my control. I promise not to do it again.”I s
Chapter 11My heart dropped to the pit of my stomach as his words kept on replaying in my head. My heart went numb as the pain in my chest hasn't faltered since that time. It was already 7 days ago but the pain I felt didn't fade away. He had already apologized but I couldn't bring myself to accept his apology that instant. I am not mad at him, alright? I just... I don't precisely know what to feel.I know I'm at fault, too, for not following what he told me to do. I didn't listened. I've even went beyond it. So I can't really blame him if he reacted that way.But... his action made me agitated. He was exaggerating things. He doesn't want me to look at boys, let alone smile at them. He was damn possessive and it's kinda suffocating. Right now, I'm on the clearing with Ingrid beside me. Half naked men and sweated women were fighting hand to hand combats. Some were sword fighting. We were sitting on a log as we talked animatedly and laughed to our own silly jokes. But that quickly end
Chapter 10 “Ugh!” I groaned loudly and massaged my head as it throbbed. I felt my stomach churning as I suddenly had an urge to throw up. Without even opening my eyes, I rushed up towards the bathroom and puked my stomach's out on the sink. Damn it! That's why I never drink before. The first time I got drunk during highschool ball, it was the most horrible experience ever. I threw up everywhere and my schoolmates were laughing at my stupid drunken state. Not only that but I smelt horribly and the headache afterwards nearly killed me. I would never get drunk again! “Ma'am, I have prepared a pain reliever for you,” a servant came with a pill. I immediately took it from her and swallowed the small tablet. “Gosh! My throat hurts!” I whined. “Anyway, can you tell me where Ingrid is? She was with me last night.” “Ingrid is in her home, ma'am. Her father took her home last night.” I nodded my head and said my thanks before I dismissed her. I headed straight to the shower and strip dow
