Chantelle looked as though she had met her savior when she heard Mauve Polson's voice. She threw herself into Mauve's arms. "Grandma, talk some sense into my dad. Stop him from marrying me off."

Mauve shot me a look of contempt. She began, "Son, I shouldn't have butt into your affairs now that you're an adult, but you need to offer an explanation because this concerns the happiness of my granddaughter."

Andrew motioned at Mauve to look at my belly as he caressed it. Since I was naturally thin and didn't wear a loose-fitting dress today, I didn't look pregnant at first glance.

Mauve was surprised. "Is she with your child?"

She let go of Chantelle's hand when Andrew nodded at her. Clutching my hand, she gasped, "Is that true? How far along is your pregnancy? Is the baby healthy?"

I nodded bashfully and added in a whisper, "The doctor said the baby's a boy."
