(Blake's POV)

No breathing exercise could relax my heart at the moment. This was more overwhelming than news of million-dollar losses in business because of economic reasons. Samantha was right, we could probably have a heart attack first if we would not know what to do with Bree. It took a while before she stopped crying. I had taken care of Sean since he was a baby but when it comes to Bree, it was different. I could not even figure out the difference but I guess it was our relation, or maybe it was Tara’s eyes that I see every time she meets my eyes or a reflection of my face when she looks at me.

I had to step out of my office for a while to call the number of the doctor written in the medical documents. Dr. Cunha seemed not surprised to hear me asking about her. She sounded cheerful as she said she was glad Bree and I finally meet, and she explained to me in detail that I had nothing to worry about he

(Blake's POV)If looks could kill, I would be dead by now, killed by the three pairs of eyes and buried by their sneers. Samantha could not really make her mouth shut, sharing everything to the two that when Matthew and Eric found out about Bree’s condition, they did not stop looking at me with great dismay and disappointment as if I did a felony. I had to bring Bree inside the penthouse, hoping she would stop crying and calling Tara, but still, it took a long time for me to pacify her.My arms were already stiffed from carrying Bree, so I had to sit down on the couch and gently put her down.“Will you please stop it!” I gritted my teeth, angry at their constant glancing and sneering. Matthew shook his head that I almost took the donut from his hand, wanting to tell him he has no right to eat in my place when I was still mad at him. Eric was standing beside him, forehead furrowing and he

(Blake's POV)I leaned on the door frame and watched Samantha and Bree from the ajar door. When I checked the time, it was already nine in the evening, and it was past her working time, but today she volunteered to stay a bit longer to put Bree to bed before going home. They had just come out from the bathroom, and a white bath towel covered her tiny body. I could not help but smile as I imagined how she loved the bathtub, and I promised to buy a lot of bath and squeaky toys for her to play with while she takes a bath. I had taken care of Sean, but I could not imagine myself bathing her or taking care of her. She seemed delicate and soft, and I was afraid I might hurt her tiny body. They were laughing when they came out of the bathroom. Samantha put her on top of the bed, and she opened her suitcase to look for her nightwear, but Bree picked up a blue T-shirt, and from the look of it, it’s not even hers.

  • The Perfect Lie   Chapter 76 – Where is Home

(Blake's POV)My heart stopped beating for a second when I saw an empty bed, and then my heartbeat burst and raced as I dashed to her bedroom. I was like an insane person taking the pillow, taking the blanket out of bed, thinking she might be hiding in there, and I had to crouch down and look under the bed.She could be in the bathroom, but my chest ached when I pushed the door open and found it empty as well. Grabbing a few strands of my hair, I paced around her room before opening the cabinet, but only her suitcase was inside. I put my hand at the back of my neck, massaging my nape as I felt the anxiety and the stress rising. I felt like having a heart attack tonight because of her.The phone rang, and when I saw the caller, I answered it right away. “Later, mom. I’ll call you later.” I said, not giving her a chance to speak. She just said okay, and then our call ended.Tara will skin

(Blake's POV)My mind was struggling to decide which was most challenging if it was about closing the deal with the ambassador, thinking that Matthew was the one babysitting Bree or was it about Tara coming and living with me for a month. Samantha teased me that I had to press my business mode button to concentrate on the negotiation, and if I couldn’t, I should have to leave it to the managers to close the deal. I had to brush off other things in my mind because this deal was important to me. After a few hours of spending time presenting, negotiating, we have finally closed the deal. She had to call our driver today because she knew none of us would be able to handle the stress ahead, which she joked was more stressful than closing the most challenging business deal I had. I hate to think I agreed with her.“Matthew,” Samantha said in a chirpy voice, giving me the wir

  • The Perfect Lie   Chapter 78 – The Proposition

(Tara's POV)My heart was pounding, and wanting to jump out of my chest as I walked in his direction. Blake always looked so powerful and in authority whenever I saw him in his business suit. He has not changed for almost six years, but he was becoming more gorgeous and sexier, and despite what happened recently, my stupid heart still loves him.I walked into a lion’s den, and one mistake I made, I would end up getting hurt again. Guess what? I didn’t really care. If my heart and my brain would probably get out of my body right now, they would be arguing about the real reason I was here. Ben and Stella were right. If Bree were my real concern, I could just run to them for help.Stella was teasing me for choosing this dress, and I said I chose this for my revenge. Well... kind of! I just have no idea how I would do it. I have plenty of ways in mind but the way Blake was gazing at me right now, here go

  • The Perfect Lie   Chapter 79 – Relief and Regret

(Tara's POV) “Samantha,” I hissed as she walked around the boutique and pointed at the design of the clothes the staff must get. She glanced at me and smiled. “We’re not yet done, darling,” She said in an alluring tone. My eyes bulged on the prices of the clothes, and I hate to think that she will spend millions on non-important things before the day ends. She noticed that I kept looking at the tags of the items. “Buying the whole shopping mall won’t make Blake poor, Tara,” She whispered. “Just buy the whole shopping mall, then,” I joked, rolling my eyes. She chuckled. “Good suggestion! Wait-” She turned her direction to Blake, Matthew, and Bree. They tirelessly listened to her stories. I could hear Blake laughing as Bree annoyingly told them how the chickens would not listen to her. “I was just kidding,” I said, holding her arm. Samantha grinned. “Next would be-” “Samant

(Blake's POV)It was past midnight, and the house was quiet, but this was the first time in my life that I loved the silence, knowing that my child would be sleeping well. I rolled my neck from side to side as I walked in the direction of Bree’s bedroom to check on her, but to my surprise, her bed was empty, except Poppy, and the ragdoll was enjoying the big bed by herself. This time I did not worry, instead, I walked to my bedroom, and I smiled, seeing Bree snuggling at her mother. I sat on the edge of the bed, feeling my heart ached for both of them. I missed millions of hours of precious time with them, and tonight, as I looked at them, sleeping like angels in my bed, this was more than a multi-million dollar business deal that if I lost both of them, it would crush my heart. Not wanting to wake them up, I lay down on the bed as slowly as possible. I smiled when Bree rolled to my side, snuggling t

(Blake's POV) Mom opened the glass door before Dad could answer her whereabouts. My elegant, kind-hearted but strict, and worse than my father dealing with the women I met in my lifetime has a smile on her lips. No, it was not just an ordinary smile but an excited one. “Grandma Thea!” Bree squealed that she could not contain her excitement. She climbed down her chair after leaving her pencil and workbook on the table. She ran excitedly to my mother, leaving my Dad and me feeling lost in what was happening. Mom immediately sat, meeting her granddaughter’s height, and opened her arms. “Oh! Oh! How’s my beautiful granddaughter?” Did my cousins tell her about Bree? I looked at Dad, and just like me, he shrugged, telling me with all honesty in his eyes that he had no idea how they knew each other. Bree was so happy, giggling as she kissed Mom on her cheeks. “I miss you, grandma Thea!” She said in h

(Tara's POV)It was a bizarre dream, but I could not remember where I was, except I was walking endlessly on the bridge with Clarice when I heard Bree calling me. When I stopped walking, Clarice seemed to understand. She smiled at me and nodded. I must have walked far because it took me time to reach the end, but I heard them talking about me every day. I listened to Bree as she read stories and sang to me. Whenever I heard Blake’s voice calling me to wake up, telling me how much he loves me, I would run. This morning, Bree woke me up with her song, but I couldn’t open my eyes. When I could finally open my eyelids, it was the god-like face of my fiance that my eyes first laid on. I feasted my eyes on him and thought of the day I saw him at the office with Sadie. It hurt me, but my heart was telling me how much he loved me, and that was enough for me to give us another chance. I closed my eyes again and fell into a deep sleep, dreaming of Blake and Bree on the island. Their loud chats

  • The Perfect Lie   Chapter 99 – Sleeping Beauty

(Blake's POV)It has been a week, but Tara remained unconscious. Jerome would use the term sleeping whenever Bree is around. He is always careful of his words, especially when my daughter’s almond-shaped eyes turn round at words she hardly understands.Fear still crept into my heart of losing her, and the only consolation I have that she would wake up one of these days is that her ventilator support was already taken away. She could breathe without the support of the machine, but when I asked him why she was not waking up, he explained many medical reasons. My heart has one explanation, though. Tara was giving up on me, and what scares me is hearing the words coming from her that she didn’t want me in her life.I watched Bree as she reads her book to her Mom. Her voice has become my alarm sound in the morning. She would sing to her and read her a story. After Stella or Gianna fed her breakfast,

  • The Perfect Lie   Chapter 98 – Learning From Bree

(Blake's POV)For how long I was staring blankly at nowhere, I did not know. My heart was aching much that all I wanted was to be with Tara, but I went out of her room because I felt dying, seeing Tara in her bed, still unconscious, and the beeping of the heart monitoring machine was driving me nuts.I lost the entire day with Tara when I woke up in one of the hospital rooms. I yelled at every nurse who came, hating they put me to sleep. What if Tara woke up and asked for me? No doctor, not even Jerome, could calm me down. Then Nana Shea came into my room, surprising me.“Blake,” She called my name, and I saw myself like I was a little child again. I cried and held onto her when she came to me.“Get a grip, Blake! Tara and Bree need you right now,” Nana Shea said, wiping my tears. “Unless you calm down, they won’t allow you to see Tara. You don’t want to scare Bre

  • The Perfect Lie   Chapter 97 – Hear My Side

(Blake's POV)Before my eyes could open, the corners of my mouth lifted already. As she snuggled closer to me and held on to me tighter, I felt to be the luckiest man in the world. I kissed her forehead before getting up from the bed slowly. I watched Tara, and with her uneven breathing, I now felt guilty for tiring her out last night. I kissed her shoulder and moved out from the bed slowly, letting her rest.Humming La Vie En Rose, I went down and started picking up our clothes I tossed anywhere last night. Bree will be coming home soon, and I didn’t want to explain why our dresses, especially the underwear were everywhere around the house. When I heard Bree and Jem entering the house, I still had our clothes in my hands, and I had to put the clothes on the couch because Bree ran to me excitedly. I crouched down and opened my arms to her.“Daddy!” She beamed and kissed my cheeks.

  • The Perfect Lie   Chapter 96 – Fading Away

(Tara's POV)Slowly, my eyelids opened, and the morning sunshine greeted me. I rolled to my bed and realized I was alone, but my lips curved a sensual smile as I remembered what happened last night.“Show me that good sex you’re saying a while ago, Kitten,” He whispered in a raspy voice as we entered the elevator. His lips curved a playful smile as he pinned me to the wall and kissed me passionately.I never thought that those simple words would turn him on.I grabbed the sheets of my bedcovers, biting my bottom lip now as I recalled how I kissed him with lust and love. I was too angry with Sadie that another side of me came out of my body and soul.“You’re mine, Blake!” I uttered, kissing him and biting his earlobe as I whispered those words. “Every part of you is mine!” I said as I took off his tuxedo and opened the buttons of his dress suit.

  • The Perfect Lie   Chapter 95 – Not A Charity Case

(Tara's POV)Being rich must be tiring, I said to myself as I looked around. The beautiful gown I was wearing today, including the shoes and accessories, could feed a family, or maybe an entire community for a week already. The pledges of the guests tonight were overwhelming, and surely the institution benefitting it would be thrilled. They have already exceeded the needed fund of the group for the charity they were supporting. Before I met Blake, all these were only part of my imagination existing only in movies and novels we used to read. Being here made me realize that two worlds were created—one for the rich and one for the poor. Yet one thing is needed to survive in both worlds. You have to be strong.“Shall we dance?” Blake asked, extending his hand to me.I smiled, feeling the relief of finally having Blake with me. He had been busy talking with many people tonight.

  • The Perfect Lie   Chapter 94 – Eyes Like A Hawk

(Tara's POV)I stopped by the door, admiring Blake in his black tuxedo. He was too gorgeous that I wished to be selfish tonight, not wanting other women to look at him. “Just to remind you, Blake, this is a charity event, not your wedding yet,” Samantha grinned as she reminded him while fixing his bow tie. Samantha looked beautiful in her red gown with elaborative lace embroidery from top to bottom. Men would surely ogle at her as her long gown was designed with a high-cut halter neck and sheer side panels, but she kept on telling me I must be ready because cameras would be on me today, eyes of every guest would be fixed on me because of curiosity. She tapped his chest and turned him around to see me. She giggled when Blake opened his mouth, but no words came out.I shrugged, smiling sheepishly as I walked to him. “Samantha made me wear this,” I said, blushing.

  • The Perfect Lie   Chapter 93 – Rejection

(Tara's POV)Blake kissed me with a mix of anger and love, but he stopped when I started touching him. It was as if he was burned with my touch, and when he saw me panting after that breathless kiss, his face went pale. His eyes suddenly were in a panic that he got up immediately and helped me sit.“Are you okay?” His eyes were round, and I could recognize the panic and fear overwhelming him.My eyes narrowed, and I looked at him. “I’m okay,” I said, still panting from the kiss.“Can you breathe?” He asked, now pacing in front of me, which he didn’t know stresses me now.“You’re overreacting, Blake,” I uttered as I took my clothes and started getting dressed. He shook his head. “I told you, we won’t do anything until I talked to your doctor until we have you thoroughly check and-”I stood up, now feeli

  • The Perfect Lie   Chapter 92 – My Heart is Just Fine

(Tara's POV)Samantha had brought me a long list of wedding planners she knew, and all I had to do was select the best one. We were about to go back to the office to talk about the charity event we would be attending when Blake startled us as he stormed inside and went straight to the bedroom.“What happened?” Samantha asked, standing up.I shook my head, leaving the magazines and papers on the center table, and we went upstairs. The door was opened wide, and as we stepped inside the bedroom, I could hear movements in the bathroom. My heartbeat was getting crazy at first, but I felt it stopping when we heard Blake screaming in anger. When he came out of the bathroom, his face was red, his eyes were flaring in anger, and he was breathing heavily as he threw everything in his hand. My eyes widened, and my body quivered as I recognized the things he threw in front of me. I gasped when I sa
