(Blake's POV)

It was past midnight, and the house was quiet, but this was the first time in my life that I loved the silence, knowing that my child would be sleeping well. I rolled my neck from side to side as I walked in the direction of Bree’s bedroom to check on her, but to my surprise, her bed was empty, except Poppy, and the ragdoll was enjoying the big bed by herself.

This time I did not worry, instead, I walked to my bedroom, and I smiled, seeing Bree snuggling at her mother. I sat on the edge of the bed, feeling my heart ached for both of them. I missed millions of hours of precious time with them, and tonight, as I looked at them, sleeping like angels in my bed, this was more than a multi-million dollar business deal that if I lost both of them, it would crush my heart.

Not wanting to wake them up, I lay down on the bed as slowly as possible. I smiled when Bree rolled to my side, snuggling t

(Blake's POV) Mom opened the glass door before Dad could answer her whereabouts. My elegant, kind-hearted but strict, and worse than my father dealing with the women I met in my lifetime has a smile on her lips. No, it was not just an ordinary smile but an excited one. “Grandma Thea!” Bree squealed that she could not contain her excitement. She climbed down her chair after leaving her pencil and workbook on the table. She ran excitedly to my mother, leaving my Dad and me feeling lost in what was happening. Mom immediately sat, meeting her granddaughter’s height, and opened her arms. “Oh! Oh! How’s my beautiful granddaughter?” Did my cousins tell her about Bree? I looked at Dad, and just like me, he shrugged, telling me with all honesty in his eyes that he had no idea how they knew each other. Bree was so happy, giggling as she kissed Mom on her cheeks. “I miss you, grandma Thea!” She said in h

  • The Perfect Lie   Chapter 82 – Draw the Building

(Blake's POV)“Mommy! Mommy!” I heard Bree calling Tara with excitement. I peeked at them from the open door, and I could see her jumping in the bed. Her mother was preparing the hairdryer, and she was standing, watching her. She just came back an hour ago, and as soon as she got hold of her, she gave her dinner, made sure to check on her workbook, and the two of them went to the bathroom. Bree was on her sleepwear already when they went out, and Tara was still wearing the black floral-print mini dress that I adored this morning. Tara chuckled as she fixed her gaze with her. “Yes, baby... Please, stop jumping, Bree. You’re already tired,” She reminded her and tapped the chair in front of the dresser. “Come here now and let me dry your hair,”After she climbed down from the bed, Tara helped her get into the chair when she came to her. “Did you have fun with g

(Tara's POV)I took a last look at the mirror before I decided to go out of the room. Samantha had chosen my attire for today, and even if I didn’t like the idea, when she started her little drama of not having a sister nor female cousin to share a passion for fashion, I let her choose my style for today. She had chosen a mini skirt business suit, matching hers. Only hers were a black suit, and I had to wear white. It was undeniable that the single-breasted suit I was wearing now is kind of stylish, and Blake was right on asking Samantha to go shopping for me. It was my skirt that worried me, though. Although for the past days that I stayed here, I have been wearing a mini-dress, hoping to make him suffer, but as always, at the end of the day, I would always wish we could truly be together. I ached for his kisses, his touch, and last night if I had asked Bree to draw her father, which she would gladly do, it woul

  • The Perfect Lie   Chapter 84 – Alone Time

(Tara's POV)“It has a long way of tradition, Tara, and we all knew that Aunt Thea had that ring, passed on to her when she got married to Uncle Steve. It was really romantic having two rings in your fingers.” She put her hand on her mouth and looked at me like her eyes would bulge from her face. “How?”“It’s a long history, Samantha. All I can tell you is that I have this ring, not in a romantic way but some sort of punishment for lying about Bree.”“Yeah... yeah! Did you know that it has a pair, Tara? A pair that is rarely passed on?” She asked, her eyes still wide.I shook my head.“This is what I love about my job. I could call my boss stupid, call him dimwit and smack him in the head... Later!” She laughed, and I joined her, not understanding why. “You’re both stupid!”“What?” I chuckled, fee

(Blake's POV)“Let’s play a game, Blake,” Tara whispered in my ear and nipped on my earlobe as she took off my blazer.“What game, Kitten?” I asked in a hushed but excited tone, letting out a deep breath as she nipped my neck playfully. She was driving me crazy, and I wanted to touch her, punish her for what she did last night, but when I started to touch her, she smacked my hands lightly, giggling sensually. Even her seductive laugh made me insane.“Patience, Blake... One rule, though. No touching.” She smiled, grabbing the collar of my dress shirt and locking her lips into mine. She lightly swept the tip of her tongue on my lips and kissed me with so much fire that I forgot I was not supposed to touch her. To hell with her rule, I wanted to touch her. My body was screaming with joy as I savored the sensation. I raised my hand, gently caressing her cheeks and her neck.

(Blake's POV)Tara parked the car without the help of anyone. She seemed to know where to park, and when she unfastened her seatbelt, she looked at Samantha and me.“Are you two now okay?” She asked as she wore her suit jacket and pulled her hair in a ponytail.Samantha forced a smile and nodded.“Why are you not worried, Tara?” I asked, looking at her with lots of questions, but I couldn’t seem to find which one should be answered first.“Your Mom overreacted-”“Overreacted?” I repeated, suddenly feeling annoyed with her answer. “We’re talking about Bree here,” I hissed, irking at the way she spoke about Mom.She rolled her eyes and opened the door. When we got out, it was also the same time someone opened the car’s door parked next to ours.“Tara?” He fixed the brim of his eyeglasses. &l

  • The Perfect Lie   Chapter 87 – Lesson 101

(Tara's POV)Thea and Steve did not insist on bringing Bree and Sean back to their house. Despite being eleven, Sean bawled, telling his mother how scared he was when Bree could not breathe, so Samantha decided just to bring him home. One of these days, I would have to explain to him what he should do when something like that happens again.I understand the fear they all went through, and it was only right to let them have a better sleep tonight. Everyone was scared today, and I did not want it to happen again. The last thing Bree needs is a family panicking in times of emergency.I used to be scared before, but it changed everything when I had Bree. She needed a mother who she could rely on at all times, and now I had to give her Dad lesson 101 on what to do in case of emergency.Blake wrapped his arms behind me and rested his head on my shoulder as we watched Bree sleeping deeply in her bed.&ldq

  • The Perfect Lie   Chapter 88 – Don't Mess Up With the Family

(Tara's POV)I pulled a chair near the edge of the foot of the bed. I sat while my legs rested on the bed’s mattress, then I placed my drawing pad on my knees and started sketching the most beautiful man still sleeping. Beneath the soft white blanket, Blake was still naked, and I could not help biting my bottom lip. My lips curved a smile, and I could feel my cheeks blushing as I remembered how many times we had made love.Slowly his eyes opened, and he smiled at me. He got up, leaning on the headrest of the bed, and the blanket fell off, exposing half of his body. “What are you doing there?” He asked, staring at me with love and lust.I showed him my sketch. “You’re too beautiful not be drawn, Blake,”“This is just so unfair,” He groaned but smiled at me. “If I have the same talent, I will paint every wall of this house of you, Tar

  • The Perfect Lie   Chapter 100 – And They Live...

(Tara's POV)It was a bizarre dream, but I could not remember where I was, except I was walking endlessly on the bridge with Clarice when I heard Bree calling me. When I stopped walking, Clarice seemed to understand. She smiled at me and nodded. I must have walked far because it took me time to reach the end, but I heard them talking about me every day. I listened to Bree as she read stories and sang to me. Whenever I heard Blake’s voice calling me to wake up, telling me how much he loves me, I would run. This morning, Bree woke me up with her song, but I couldn’t open my eyes. When I could finally open my eyelids, it was the god-like face of my fiance that my eyes first laid on. I feasted my eyes on him and thought of the day I saw him at the office with Sadie. It hurt me, but my heart was telling me how much he loved me, and that was enough for me to give us another chance. I closed my eyes again and fell into a deep sleep, dreaming of Blake and Bree on the island. Their loud chats

  • The Perfect Lie   Chapter 99 – Sleeping Beauty

(Blake's POV)It has been a week, but Tara remained unconscious. Jerome would use the term sleeping whenever Bree is around. He is always careful of his words, especially when my daughter’s almond-shaped eyes turn round at words she hardly understands.Fear still crept into my heart of losing her, and the only consolation I have that she would wake up one of these days is that her ventilator support was already taken away. She could breathe without the support of the machine, but when I asked him why she was not waking up, he explained many medical reasons. My heart has one explanation, though. Tara was giving up on me, and what scares me is hearing the words coming from her that she didn’t want me in her life.I watched Bree as she reads her book to her Mom. Her voice has become my alarm sound in the morning. She would sing to her and read her a story. After Stella or Gianna fed her breakfast,

  • The Perfect Lie   Chapter 98 – Learning From Bree

(Blake's POV)For how long I was staring blankly at nowhere, I did not know. My heart was aching much that all I wanted was to be with Tara, but I went out of her room because I felt dying, seeing Tara in her bed, still unconscious, and the beeping of the heart monitoring machine was driving me nuts.I lost the entire day with Tara when I woke up in one of the hospital rooms. I yelled at every nurse who came, hating they put me to sleep. What if Tara woke up and asked for me? No doctor, not even Jerome, could calm me down. Then Nana Shea came into my room, surprising me.“Blake,” She called my name, and I saw myself like I was a little child again. I cried and held onto her when she came to me.“Get a grip, Blake! Tara and Bree need you right now,” Nana Shea said, wiping my tears. “Unless you calm down, they won’t allow you to see Tara. You don’t want to scare Bre

  • The Perfect Lie   Chapter 97 – Hear My Side

(Blake's POV)Before my eyes could open, the corners of my mouth lifted already. As she snuggled closer to me and held on to me tighter, I felt to be the luckiest man in the world. I kissed her forehead before getting up from the bed slowly. I watched Tara, and with her uneven breathing, I now felt guilty for tiring her out last night. I kissed her shoulder and moved out from the bed slowly, letting her rest.Humming La Vie En Rose, I went down and started picking up our clothes I tossed anywhere last night. Bree will be coming home soon, and I didn’t want to explain why our dresses, especially the underwear were everywhere around the house. When I heard Bree and Jem entering the house, I still had our clothes in my hands, and I had to put the clothes on the couch because Bree ran to me excitedly. I crouched down and opened my arms to her.“Daddy!” She beamed and kissed my cheeks.

  • The Perfect Lie   Chapter 96 – Fading Away

(Tara's POV)Slowly, my eyelids opened, and the morning sunshine greeted me. I rolled to my bed and realized I was alone, but my lips curved a sensual smile as I remembered what happened last night.“Show me that good sex you’re saying a while ago, Kitten,” He whispered in a raspy voice as we entered the elevator. His lips curved a playful smile as he pinned me to the wall and kissed me passionately.I never thought that those simple words would turn him on.I grabbed the sheets of my bedcovers, biting my bottom lip now as I recalled how I kissed him with lust and love. I was too angry with Sadie that another side of me came out of my body and soul.“You’re mine, Blake!” I uttered, kissing him and biting his earlobe as I whispered those words. “Every part of you is mine!” I said as I took off his tuxedo and opened the buttons of his dress suit.

  • The Perfect Lie   Chapter 95 – Not A Charity Case

(Tara's POV)Being rich must be tiring, I said to myself as I looked around. The beautiful gown I was wearing today, including the shoes and accessories, could feed a family, or maybe an entire community for a week already. The pledges of the guests tonight were overwhelming, and surely the institution benefitting it would be thrilled. They have already exceeded the needed fund of the group for the charity they were supporting. Before I met Blake, all these were only part of my imagination existing only in movies and novels we used to read. Being here made me realize that two worlds were created—one for the rich and one for the poor. Yet one thing is needed to survive in both worlds. You have to be strong.“Shall we dance?” Blake asked, extending his hand to me.I smiled, feeling the relief of finally having Blake with me. He had been busy talking with many people tonight.

  • The Perfect Lie   Chapter 94 – Eyes Like A Hawk

(Tara's POV)I stopped by the door, admiring Blake in his black tuxedo. He was too gorgeous that I wished to be selfish tonight, not wanting other women to look at him. “Just to remind you, Blake, this is a charity event, not your wedding yet,” Samantha grinned as she reminded him while fixing his bow tie. Samantha looked beautiful in her red gown with elaborative lace embroidery from top to bottom. Men would surely ogle at her as her long gown was designed with a high-cut halter neck and sheer side panels, but she kept on telling me I must be ready because cameras would be on me today, eyes of every guest would be fixed on me because of curiosity. She tapped his chest and turned him around to see me. She giggled when Blake opened his mouth, but no words came out.I shrugged, smiling sheepishly as I walked to him. “Samantha made me wear this,” I said, blushing.

  • The Perfect Lie   Chapter 93 – Rejection

(Tara's POV)Blake kissed me with a mix of anger and love, but he stopped when I started touching him. It was as if he was burned with my touch, and when he saw me panting after that breathless kiss, his face went pale. His eyes suddenly were in a panic that he got up immediately and helped me sit.“Are you okay?” His eyes were round, and I could recognize the panic and fear overwhelming him.My eyes narrowed, and I looked at him. “I’m okay,” I said, still panting from the kiss.“Can you breathe?” He asked, now pacing in front of me, which he didn’t know stresses me now.“You’re overreacting, Blake,” I uttered as I took my clothes and started getting dressed. He shook his head. “I told you, we won’t do anything until I talked to your doctor until we have you thoroughly check and-”I stood up, now feeli

  • The Perfect Lie   Chapter 92 – My Heart is Just Fine

(Tara's POV)Samantha had brought me a long list of wedding planners she knew, and all I had to do was select the best one. We were about to go back to the office to talk about the charity event we would be attending when Blake startled us as he stormed inside and went straight to the bedroom.“What happened?” Samantha asked, standing up.I shook my head, leaving the magazines and papers on the center table, and we went upstairs. The door was opened wide, and as we stepped inside the bedroom, I could hear movements in the bathroom. My heartbeat was getting crazy at first, but I felt it stopping when we heard Blake screaming in anger. When he came out of the bathroom, his face was red, his eyes were flaring in anger, and he was breathing heavily as he threw everything in his hand. My eyes widened, and my body quivered as I recognized the things he threw in front of me. I gasped when I sa
