“I support you,” he said. “You really should leave. I don’t like him being around you.”

“He’s a jerk.”

“I’ve asked you this many times but haven’t gotten a reply. What plan do you have in place to take him out? We need a good one.”

Before a solution could be brought up, his phone rang which was from the alpha.

“Speak of the devil,” he said, walking away to take the call.

I stood in my stead looking around the fields with my arms crossed.

“He wants us back,” he said when he was done with the call.

“What do you mean?”

“Something happened in the pack.”

“So…”

“He knows you’re with me.”

“How?”

“He’s the alpha, you don’t expect us to be in the pack together and not be spied upon. Let’s get back so we’d be done with whatever he wants and be on our way out of there.”

I nodded.

Our drive back home was silent as expected. I dreaded going back to see his face. Why did the kindpaper have to be so cruel?

There were other things he could have asked me to do instead of going back to Brad.
