ARLO

I sat behind my desk, sipping my coffee as I reviewed the day's schedule. It was a lovely day indeed, a rare day when everything went according to my plan. My secretary, Juliet, knocked on the door, interrupting my thoughts of pure triumph.

"Sir, Henry Wilson and Shane Parrish have arrived," she said.

I nodded, setting my coffee down. "Send them in."

A moment later, the two agents walked into my office, their expressions guarded with Henry's of strength and ambition and Shane of skeptics.

"Ah, gentlemen," I said, standing up to greet them, offering a handshake and taking Parrish unaware. "Thank you for bringing Max in. I know it can't have been easy. She has been a person of personal value to both of you who grew up with her, one as a sister and the other as a friend."

Henry and Shane exchanged a glance, their faces unreadable.

"I want to assure you that what we're doing here is for the greater good," I continued. "And I think you two have the potential to be a part of some

HENRY I finally went home after I haven't seen my parents since the entire ordeal with Max and I. I knew a lot was going to happen as soon as I step into the house and I wasn't wrong. I walked through the front door, exhausted from the past three days. I hadn't been home since I'd brought my sister to Synod, and I knew my parents were going to be furious. As soon as I stepped into the living room, my mom launched herself at me, her face red with anger. "How could you do this to us, Henry?" she screamed. "You've destroyed our family!" I didn't want to engage so I stepped away from them "I don't want to argue, at least not today" I said trying to make my way up the stairs Mom wasn't having any of that as she did not stop "I knew you had always been ambitious, but going after your own sister was the last straw! You are not the son we raised" She continued as dad chimed in "Maxine is your little sister, it is your duty to protect her, but you led the people who took her into custod

SHANE(6 YEARS AGO)I often find myself daydreaming about what it would be like to have a happy home, a loving family that's always there for me. But that's not the reality I've been dealt. My mother, an NX-5, has struggled with mental illness for as long as I can remember. She's not capable of taking care of me, and I've had to rely on others to raise me. I haven't seen her in a very long time as she is being held at Synod facility. My father passed away when I was just a kid, leaving me with no choice but to be taken in by my aunt and uncle. They've done their best to provide for me, but it's not the same as having a traditional family. That's why I cherish the time I spend with the Wilsons. They're not my biological family, but they've taken me in and made me feel like one of their own.Whenever I'm at their house, I feel like I'm part of a real family. They laugh, they argue, they love each other - it's all so foreign to me, but it's also incredibly comforting. For a few hours, I

MAXINE I felt like I'd been running on a treadmill for hours, my legs aching and my lungs burning. But it wasn't just physical exhaustion - it was mental and emotional too. The tests they'd been putting me through were designed to push me to my limits, to see how much I could endure.I'd been poked and prodded, scanned and examined. They'd thrown everything at me, from psychological evaluations to physical challenges. And through it all, I'd been forced to wear this stupid blue point collar that suppressed my powers. But the worst part was yet to come. They led me to a small room, where a nurse was waiting with a syringe. Large enough to scare an animal. "Time for a blood test, Max," she said, her voice cheerful but her eyes cold.I tried to relax, but my heart was racing. I hated needles, and the thought of them sticking one in my arm made me queasy, I tried to nuzzle my way out with terror building inside of me but I was strapped tight on that bed. I added straps to the list of thi

ELEANOR I stood in our kitchen, my hands shaking with frustration as I begged Oscar to listen to me. "We have to do something, Oscar. We can't just sit here and do nothing. Max is our daughter, and she's in danger."Oscar's face was set in a stubborn expression. "I know that, Eleanor. But contacting the resistance group is not the answer. It's too dangerous. We can't risk putting Henry in harm's way."I felt a surge of anger. "Henry? You're worried about Henry? What about Max? She's the one who's being held captive by Synod and he put her there, he betrayed every single thing this family represents and you know it."Oscar's voice rose to match mine. "I'm worried about all of our children, Eleanor. But we can't just rush into something without thinking it through. The resistance group is not to be trusted. They're just as likely to use Max as a pawn in their game against Synod."I felt tears pricking at the corners of my eyes. "How can you say that? We have to try something. We can't

NIKLAUS I stood in the dimly lit hallway, my mother McKenna's eyes shining with a mix of worry and determination as she gazed up at me."Klaus, be careful," she whispered, her voice trembling slightly. "You and your team are taking a huge risk by going into that facility. But I know you have to try. Max needs you."I nodded, feeling a surge of resolve. "We'll get her out, Mom. I promise."McKenna's eyes searched mine, as if looking for any sign of doubt or hesitation. But I knew she wouldn't find any. I was determined to rescue Max, no matter what it took.My team was waiting for me outside, their faces set with determination. Jax, Lena, Eric, and Pen - we'd all been through so much together, and I knew I could count on them to have my back.McKenna reached out and grasped my arm, her grip tight. "Come back to me, Klaus," she whispered. "All of you, come back to me."I smiled, trying to reassure her. "We will, Mom. We'll be back before you know it, with Max safe and sound."McKenna n

LENAI crept through the dimly lit corridor, Eric by my side. We'd been tasked with getting to the general surveillance room and installing a device that would give River and EVE access to the Synod's security system. As we approached the room, I could feel the familiar buzz of the security men's thoughts. They were bored, tired, and completely unaware of our presence.I focused my mind, reaching out to the guards with a gentle, persuasive touch. "You're tired," I whispered, my voice echoing in their minds. "You need to rest. Just take a little nap, and everything will be fine."The guards' thoughts began to slow, their minds growing cloudy and disoriented. Eric and I exchanged a quick glance, and then we moved swiftly, with a quick move taking out the guards with silent efficiency, trying our best to remain quiet.Eric had always been faster, more resilient but Jax was impatient and liked to play hero, one thing we all had in common, we wanted a different world. one filled with peace

NIKLAUS As I held Max, I expected her to look relieved and happy to see someone coming to rescue her, I was damn wrong. But instead, she resisted, pushing me away with a look of confusion and fear."Who are you?!" she yelled, her voice shaking with a show of energy I didn't think she still had, tugging and forcing her way out of my hand.I didn't have time to explain, not with the alarms blaring and the agents closing in. "I'm here to help you, Max!" I said, trying to keep my voice calm. "We have to get out of here, now!" I tried calming her down a loud shriek from her followed as a surge of energy crossed through her screams launching me to the other side of the room even breaking the glass slide doors. She was powerful and extremely stubborn, I should have never taken off her collar. I had prepared for something like this. I had a smaller one for her feet and I was definitely going to use it. Before I could collect myself she was already gone, running her way through the hallway

HENRY I stood outside the superintendent's office, my heart sinking with a sense of foreboding. My team stood beside me, their faces somber as this is the second time a subject under our care had escaped and I felt utterly useless because I was not around to stop the infiltration."Ah, Henry," the superintendent's voice called out, his tone stern. "Come in."We filed into the office, taking our seats in front of the superintendent's desk. He looked at us over the rim of his reading glasses, his expression unyielding."I'm sure you're all aware of the recent... incidents, it is so recent it happened yesterday" he began, his voice dripping with disdain and irritation. "The escape of Maxine Wilson, the infiltration by Vortex... it's a disaster. We failed New Eden and to think we had things under control?"I felt a surge of defensiveness, but I bit it back. We had failed, and we knew it."What happened, Henry?" the superintendent demanded, his eyes boring into mine. "How did this happen

MAXINE I stood tall, my heart racing with excitement as I faced the entire Vortex team. McKenna, with a warm smile, stepped forward and began the initiation ceremony."Maxine, from this day forward, you are a full-fledged member of Vortex. You have proven yourself to be a valuable asset to our team, and we are honored to have you by our side."The room erupted in applause as McKenna handed me a sleek, silver badge with the Vortex logo emblazoned on it. I took it, feeling a surge of pride and belonging.Klaus, standing off to the side, caught my eye. He was beaming with pride, and I could sense a hint of relief emanating from him. I smiled, feeling a sense of gratitude towards him for believing in me.McKenna continued, "As a member of Vortex, you will be part of an elite team that takes on the toughest missions. You will be working closely with Phoenix-4, our top-tier operatives, to take down threats and protect the innocent."I felt a thrill run through me as I glanced at the Phoeni

MCKENNA I walked into the room, finding Maxine sitting on the couch, looking calm and collected. I had been tasked with informing her of the final testing she would have to undergo before being cleared as a member of Vortex."Maxine, I'm here to discuss the final stage of your testing," I said, taking a seat across from her.She looked up at me, a hint of curiosity in her eyes. "What's the test?"I smiled, impressed by her eagerness. "It's a simulation exercise, designed to push your skills and abilities to the limit. But I have to warn you, it won't be easy."Maxine nodded, a determined look on her face. "I'm ready. I want to end this testing and prove myself as a valuable member of Vortex."I was taken aback by her response. Most recruits would be hesitant, even fearful, of the final test. But not Maxine. She was eager to prove herself, to show that she was worthy of being part of our team.As I looked at her, I realized that she had no idea what was truly going on. She didn't know

NIKLAUS I strode into the room, my eyes locking onto Max's fiery gaze. I could sense the tension emanating from her, and I knew I was the cause. I took a deep breath, preparing myself for the confrontation."Max, can we talk?" I asked, my voice low and even. She raised an eyebrow, her expression a perfect blend of indifference and annoyance. "What's there to talk about, Klaus?"I took a step closer, my eyes never leaving hers. "I want to know if you're still angry with me."Max let out a dismissive laugh, her shoulders shrugging slightly. "Angry? Klaus, you're not that important to me. I don't waste my emotions on people who don't deserve them."Her words stung, but I pressed on. "I understand that I hurt you, and for that, I'm truly sorry. But I was hoping... maybe we could start over. Be friends, at least...I admit my mistake and I am very sorry, especially since you gave us the solution to our current...... problem."Max's expression turned glacial, her voice dripping with disdain

ELEANOR I stood in a nicely lit room, surrounded by a group of strangers who, like me, had been hired as cleaners for Synod. We were about to undergo our training, and I could feel a sense of anticipation and nervousness in the air.The instructor, a tall, imposing figure with a stern expression, stood before us. "Welcome, cleaners," he said, his voice firm. "You are about to embark on a journey that requires vigilance, secrecy, and wit. You will be tasked with disposing of... materials that are sensitive in nature. It is imperative that you understand the gravity of your role and the importance of discretion."He led us through a series of steps, each one designed to drill into us the importance of secrecy and caution. We were shown how to handle sensitive materials, how to navigate the facility without drawing attention to ourselves, and how to respond to unexpected situations. But it wasn't just about the practical aspects of the job. The instructor also emphasized the importance

SHANEI sat in front of my computer, my eyes scanning the lines of code as I worked to hack into the Synod system. My goal was to approve Eleanor's resume, to make sure she got the job as a cleaner. It was a risk, I knew, but I had to do everything I could to help her get inside. My fingers flew across the keyboard as I worked, my mind racing with the possibilities. I had to be careful, had to make sure I didn't leave any traces of my hack. Synod's security was top-notch, and if they suspected even for a moment that someone had breached their system, they would lock down tighter than a drum.I worked quickly, my heart pounding in my chest. I navigated through the system, avoiding the security traps and firewalls that were designed to keep people like me out. Finally, I reached the database of job applicants, and I quickly located Eleanor's resume.I approved it, making sure to cover my tracks as I did so. I deleted any logs of my activity, making it look like the approval had come fro

ELEANOR I sat across from Shane, his eyes locked intensely on mine. "I need your help, Eleanor," he said, his voice low and urgent. "I need more eyes inside Synod. I need to know what's going on, what they're planning."I nodded, my mind racing with the implications. I had always been willing to do whatever it took to help my children, and if that meant helping Shane, then so be it."I'm in," I said, my voice firm. "What do you need me to do?"Shane's expression turned serious. "It's not going to be easy, Eleanor. It's risky. If we're caught, we could get killed."I felt a shiver run down my spine, but I didn't hesitate. I was willing to do whatever it took to help Shane, to help Max. My daughter was still out there, still in danger, and I would do anything to keep her safe."I'm willing to take that risk," I said, my voice steady. "I'll do whatever it takes to help you, to help Max."Shane's eyes locked on mine, and for a moment, I thought I saw a flicker of surprise. But then, his

HENRYI sat across from Cora, trying to focus on the mission briefing in front of us. But my eyes kept drifting back to her, taking in the way her hair fell in loose waves down her back, the way her eyes sparkled as she spoke. We'd been working together for a while now, and I had to admit, I was starting to enjoy her company, I always have in all honesty. She was smart, resourceful, and had a quick wit that always left me smiling. As we worked, I found myself stealing subtle glances at her, trying to catch her eye and flirt a little. I knew it was low-key getting on her nerves, but I couldn't help myself. There was something about Cora that drew me in, made me want to push her buttons and see how she'd react.Cora, for her part, was trying to stay calm, but I could see the tension in her shoulders, the way her eyes narrowed slightly as she met my gaze. She was trying to keep me at arm's length, but I could sense a spark of attraction beneath the surface. As we worked, our banter becam

MAXINE I lay in my bed, my body still recovering from the exertion of my training session. I had just drifted off to sleep when I heard a knock at the door. I groggily got out of bed and made my way to the door, opening it to find Klaus standing in the hallway."Hey, I just wanted to check on you," he said, his eyes scanning my face. "How are you feeling?"I shrugged, trying to play off the fatigue that still lingered in my body. "I'm fine. Just a little tired."Klaus nodded, his expression serious. "Max, I need to talk to you about something. I've been thinking, and I don't think it's a good idea for you to join Phoenix-4."I felt a surge of frustration at his words. "What are you talking about, Klaus? I've already made up my mind. I'm joining Phoenix-4, and nothing you say is going to change that."Klaus's expression turned stern. "Max, listen to me. You're not ready for this. You're still learning to control your powers, and Phoenix-4 is not a place for beginners. It's a high-risk

MCKENNA I just finished checking on Max as I was told of her outburst earlier today, Klaus was not looking very pleased with me at all and I too was beginning to blame myself for what had happened. I stood before Klaus, his eyes blazing with anger and accusation. "You're the one who's been pushing her too hard, Mother," he spat, his voice venomous. "You're the one who's responsible for her outbursts."I felt a pang of guilt and regret. Klaus was right. I had been pushing Max to her limits, trying to accelerate her training and get her ready for the missions ahead. But I had forgotten the delicacy of her powers, the fragility of her control."Klaus, I'm sorry," I said, my voice soft and contrite. "I was wrong to push her so hard. I should have taken a more gradual approach, given her more time to develop her skills and control her powers."Klaus's expression didn't change, but I could sense a slight softening in his demeanor. "You were being selfish, Mother," he said, his voice still
