CHAPTER THREE | WRONG PLACE, RIGHT TIME
AVA HAYES The plan is simply, Dante distracts the warriors guarding the border while I run out and later, he'll join me. It is a risky one, but it's all we've got. It would be harder for me to sneak out and that is why he would be doing the distracting. “Are you ready?" I ask Dante, watching him keenly. He looked more than terrified but I know he'll go through with the plan. He bites his lower lips, silently watching the gaurds movements before speaking. “You do know that if we get caught, I'll end up being imprisoned and probably sentenced to death while your father would probably lock you up in the pack house for the rest of your life?" I sigh, taking his hands in mine and giving him a reassuring squeeze. “Trust me, babe, we wouldn't get caught. And if we do, I'll protect you with my life…you are my life and I'll be nothing without you. I love you Dante Rivers." A smile spreads on his face, lighting up his eyes. “I love you too Ava Bianca Hayes." “Okay, let's do this." Giving him a peck, I move to another hiding position, slowly making my way to the border, making sure I don't blow my cover. From my position, I can see Dante hiding in our former location behind an bush, waiting for me to give him signal. I send him a thumbs up and he immediately gets into action. A loud scream echoes from him, catching everyone that surrounds the border. They all rush there to check the problem. Due to the frequent brutal attack we've been getting from rogues this past few weeks, most of the gaurds are either injured or dead given us a greater advantage. Every other thing was pretty easy after Dante successfully distracted them. I run out and keep running until they can't see me and collapse on a tree in the forest, waiting for Dante to join me. He joins me a few minutes later, placing his hands on his knees and panting. “That was really close. I almost got killed." I roll my eyes, standing at my full height for a hug. “Stop being dramatic, babe. Thank you…I love you." I whisper, hugging him tightly. “Yeah, yeah. Whatever. Where are we going now? By the way, when I ran out of the pack, the guards kept saying something about slavers. It sounded pretty serious. I think we should be careful out here." I wave him off, taking his hands and dragging him along with me. “They were only trying to make you come back. Now, we just have to find a pack willing to join us, get married and then, go back to our pack." I squeal in excitement. “Where would we find a pack? You do know we're officially rogues now and are now a threat to any pack we step foot into? How the hell are we going to get them to join us when they'll probably rip our heads off before giving us a chance to explain your brilliant plan." My movements seize, the realization that I didn't think everything through hitting me like a train. “Oh shit! Why didn't we think about this earlier? What the hell are we going to do now? “Ava," Dante calls, eyes roaming the forest fearfully. “Did you hear that?" I'm too busy being caught up in my panic to calm down and check the sound that scared him so much until a spare is thrown at me, it would have torn my head off my body if not for Dante who pushes me out of the way. The spare hits a small tree behind us and we watch with horror filled faces as the tree is sliced off. We are cornered by seven men and from their stance and scent, I immediately knew they ain't werewolves. Slavers. They are slavers and I doubt we would make it out here alive. “Oh shit!" Dante says, punching one of the men that tries to grab him. Using the man's disorientation, we push him out of the way and take to our heels, running as far as our legs can carry us, the slavers hot on our heels. We keep running, not paying attention to our surroundings until an arrow from nowhere hits one of the men chasing us. Like a horror movie in slow motion, Dante and I pause, turning around just in time to watch the man's head fall off, blood splashing everywhere. An agonizing scream comes out of my mouth, echoing around the forest. My hands slowly touch my face, the blood from the now dead man on my hand when I bring it back to my face. A gunshot sounds, followed by multiple others and soon, all the men trying to capture us are lying on the floor, bleeding and dead. We were saved by unknown people but I am not sure if I should be happy or terrified. Dante shakes my shoulders gently, snapping me out of my thoughts. “We just got saved. Why the hell are you fucking crying?" I don't realize I'm crying until he points it out. “They killed them. They…" “Are you fucking crazy? We owe whoever saved us our lives. Do you have any idea what these men would have done to us when we got captured? You'd have been turned into a guinea pig for experiment, dead, half alive. I even heard that some of these men use their female captives as sex slaves. Would you have preferred that? They would have done much worse…" My words hang in my throat when a sword is placed on my neck and a gun is pointed to Dante's temple. I can tell the sword is laced with wolfsbane as the toxic shit burns my skin, creating pain like never before on my neck. Scared to move and inflict more pain on myself, I stay still, tracing the man that has captured us with my eyes. “They are rogues. Execute them."CHAPTER FOUR | REGRET AYA HAYES I don't know the pack we are but I know that they are extremely brutal. Dante and I weren't given a chance to explain how and why we came into their pack and apparently, we still brought slavers with us. They drag us to a cell after having their fill from torturing us before locking us up. Dante had already passed out and I was losing a lot of blood. My face is swollen so much that I feel pain when I breathe in and out. My leg seems to be fractured, my rib cage is probably broken and my whole body aches as if I just came out of a near death accident. It baffles me how I haven't passed out or died till now. I really wish I hadn't run away from him. If I had known things wouldn't work out well, I would have just stayed back and kept trying to convince my father till he bulged. The door to the cell opens, a guard handing me a cup of water. I don't take it because the moment I saw his gloved hands, I realized the water is most likely poisoned. He s
CHAPTER FIVE | REVELATION FROM HELL.AVA HAYES Everytime I say no to Sebastian, he stands Dante, doing more damage to his already battered body. I have begged and screamed for him to stop but the more I do, the worse Dante's punishment becomes. Sebastian wants one thing and one thing alone- he wants me to accept him as my mate and he wouldn't stop until I do so. Dante's life is at the palm of my hand and I had two choices, accept Sebastian or watch Dante transition to the moon goddess. “Please, stop. You are hurting him." I choke out, my voice shaky and horse from the amount of times I have screamed my lungs out. Sebastian chuckles like an evil man on crack, his eyes crinkling with mischievous evil and amusement. “I have told you, Ava. It's all up to you. I'll stop once you promise to accept me. By the way, I don't think he has more than a few seconds to live." Sebastian laughter echoes around the cell, the chest of the woman restricting me from helping Dante also vibrating in
AVA HAYES My tears roll down, as Dante groans for the tenth time, his voice weak, unable to contain the pain anymore. “You bastard!” Sebastian kicks him in the mouth, then roughly rakes his hand through Dante's hair before turning to me. “Are you sure this is what you want?” He glares, his face darkening as he steps closer to me. I can't be mated to him. Noo, this must be a mistake, a big mistake. This is not fate. I'm not fated to suffer like this. “ I’M TALKING TO YOU” he yells, I flinched, my legs trembling so hard. I sniff and gather my courage to meet his eyes “I said REJECT YOU” I shouts, then break down again. I'm scared, I'm scared. I need my father, I need him. I reject disobeying him. I reject not listening to him, I shouldn't have tried escaping. “How dare you raise your voice at me?” He grabs my hair before I can react and slams me against the wall. “Stop” I hear Dante's weak voice say. My back screams in pain, like I've been hit with a hamme
SEBASTIAN “Don't die, Don't die” I yell, my heart aching with fear “Nooo” I scream as I hold her lifeless body close to my chest. My tears fall like it no longer has control. Her fair, milk skin became still….. “dove, dove, dove” I scream her name hoping she'll answer. No response, the thunder strikes and lightning splits the sky with a roar.I jolt awake from the nightmare, breathing heavily. My hand clenches my chest tightly. It's never going to end.Never.Dove comes to me every nightI just can't let go of her “I love her, she was mine before death took her away”Her death still stings, her death shattered my world.I could no longer bear it, I ran to the moon goddess, begging her for another mate.A substitute for Dove.I opened the slide door of my balcony, with a glass of wine in one hand, I casually slip the other into my pocket.I stare at the moon. It's brighter than any other night, the new Luna's coronation is happening this morning. The look in her eyes, replayed itsel
AVAI haven't seen my father in weeks. Not since I'd screamed at him, called him a tyrant, and stormed out of the house with Dante's hand in mine, drunk on rebellion. Not since I'd burned bridges without looking back. And yet….here he is. Standing at the edge of the clearing in full Alpha regalia, watching me as though I’m still his little girl. The minute I see him, something in me cracked.I step away from the celebration, the weight of the Luna crown pressing against my scalp like a punishment. My gown trail behind me as I cross the stone path towards him, ignoring the whispers, ignoring Sebastian’s dark gaze burning into my back.He doesn't stop me. Of course, he didn't. He got what he wanted….me as Luna. My feelings are irrelevant. My father's expression is unreadable, the same stone face he wore when disciplining warriors. But his eyes….they are softer. Sadder.“Father.” I breathes. He open his arms. I didn't hesitate.I walk into them like a child lost in the woods.“I'm sorry”
SEBASTIANThe night air presses against my skin like a second layer, cold and unrelenting. I stand beneath the shadows of the trees outside the Luna’s mansion, arms folded tightly, as if that could contain the chaos roiling inside me. The celebration is over. The laughter, the toasts, the charade. All that’s left now is silence. And her.Ava.She’s in there, behind those walls. Alone.I see the dim flicker of candlelight in her chambers. I see her shadow move occasionally behind the silk curtains. And I do nothing. I don’t knock. I don’t enter. I just stand here like some ghost of a man who doesn’t know how to be what he’s supposed to be.Luna and Alpha.King and Queen.Duty and bond. When her father approached me earlier today, just before the ceremony, he said four words."Take care of her."Simple. Quiet. But they slammed into me like a blade to the ribs. He didn’t threaten. He didn’t roar or puff his chest like most Alphas would. He just looked me dead in the eye and placed the we
AVAMorning finds me beneath layers of silk, drowning in the weight of roses and responsibility. Light spills through the tall windows, golden and soft, but it doesn’t warm me. I’m Luna now.And I feel like a prisoner in a crown. There’s a sharp knock at the door. Before I can even call out, it opens, revealing a girl with thick black hair twisted into a braid down her spine. Her movements are fluid, practiced. She bows low.“My name is Jatine. I’ve been assigned as your personal maid, Luna.”Luna.It still sounds like a lie.I nod, eyes scanning her for hidden motives. Everyone here smiles too easily, speaks too softly. Like every sentence hides a blade.Jatine begins her tasks with silent precision…folding clothes I haven’t worn, arranging shoes I didn’t choose, tidying a room that isn’t mine. I watch her quietly, my hands curled into fists beneath the sheets.“I want a tour,” I say, finally. She glances up, startled. “Of the pack?”“Yes. All of it.”She hesitates. “The Alpha prefer
SEBASTIANThe morning begins with tension in the air…thick, unspoken, and waiting to snap.I stand in the training yard, the weight of the pack pressing on my shoulders like chains. Warriors spar behind me, their grunts and clashes filling the silence. But my focus is elsewhere.A storm’s coming. Not one of thunder and wind…but of memories, of blood, of someone I buried long ago.A guard hurries toward me, his scent sharp with nerves.“Alpha,” he says, panting slightly. “Crimson Crest has arrived.”The words stop me cold.I turn, slowly.“What?”He nods, lower lip trembling. “Their Alpha requests an audience.”The name still burns: “Caleb”.“You’re sure?”“Yes, Alpha. He waits at the southern border.”Of course he does.He knows the rules. He helped *make* them.I march to the border with fire in my veins. The warriors around me fall silent. They remember the stories. They remember the last time Crimson Crest and our pack stood face to face.I see him before I smell him—tall, lean, st
CALEBShe clings to life in my arms, soaked, shivering, and silent. When I pulled her from the water just moments ago, I wasn’t thinking. I moved.Instinctively. Something about her compels me…and it’s not just duty. It’s something deeper, something I don’t yet understand. But I’m no fool. Just because I saved her doesn’t mean I trust her.Her lips are pale, but her pulse is steady. For someone barely breathing minutes ago, she recovers fast.Too fast.My suspicion sharpens.A rogue doesn’t usually bounce back like this. Especially not one that the Alpha himself claimed as Luna. There’s something she’s hiding.I step outside, signaling one of my men. "Find everything you can about the new Luna. I want records, whispers, rumors. Now."He bows and leaves swiftly. I don’t usually interfere in Sebastian’s affairs, but this isn’t just any woman. This is the same female who walked into this pack with fire in her eyes and a silent man by her side. They were caught together. As rogues. No blo
AVAThe coldness in my bones hasn’t faded, even as the warmth of the Luna lounge tries to soak into my skin. My wet clothes have been replaced with dry ones, thanks to Jatine’s quick thinking. But nothing can replace the lingering ache in my chest, or the fire in my thoughts.I wrap the fur blanket tighter around me, even though the trembling inside isn’t from the cold anymore.Sebastian is heartless. He watched me struggle in the water, hesitating. I saw it in his eyes…the same storm I’d seen during the coronation. But this time, it was worse. That moment where life hung by a thread, and all he did was stare. If Caleb hadn’t jumped in... I don’t even want to think about it. Caleb saved me. Just minutes ago. Risked his life to pull me from the depths. Not last night. Not hours ago. Just now. The scent of river water still clings faintly to him.I hate Sebastian. I hate him for what he is, for what he pretends to be, for what he took from me…and what he failed to give. Protection.Ja
