Chapter 232: It’s Coming Out

Dicken’s long, narrow eyes were half-shut, the blue pupils beneath murky. He was drifting between consciousness and unconsciousness, and his breathing was choppy like a candle in the wind that might go out at any moment.

“Dicken.” I touched his cheek worriedly and called out to him twice, but he did not react at all, while his breathing was getting weaker.

Immense terror gripped my heart right then and almost suffocated me, but I calmed down at the thought that Dicken could only count on me now, and that there was no one else who could save him.

I took a deep breath to calm myself, and dropped to a crouch, putting my ear against his chest to listen to his heartbeat. It was getting weaker and too slow, and my heart sank.

I had learnt emergency resuscitation for humans, but had no idea if it worked for merfolk. Still, it was worth a try judging from the upper half of their bodies, and it wasn’t like I had any other choice.

I kept Dicken’s body and head level, and pressed his chest
