Chapter 4_ The Party And Plans

Speaking about going to the party, Kay came back and walked up to them in a bad mood. Macrina and Cecil refused to accompany their mom to the housewarming of her friend’s son. Macrina insisted that she had to go over some huge files for the early meeting she had tomorrow at the company. Kay, on her own part, had to go to her restaurant to cross check some certain things. Brie and Andrew were the only people left and were in a tight spot about refusing to come to the party. So, because of that, it is set that Brie, Andrew and Gilbert, their father, will have to go to the party with Cecil. 

 

Cecil put on her expensive white lace, beautiful dress and selected an off-shoulder long-tail yellow dress for Brie to wear. The men put on their best suits for the occasion. Then they set off in their white Limousine car. The mansion was a huge and beautiful house with large surroundings and all kinds of flowers. The flowers there were trimmed into different shapes. There was a huge golden dinosaur at the center of the surroundings with water rushing out from its mouth. In the corner was a garden and a golden table with seats on them. And at the end of the house was a huge swimming pool. Then there is a long lantern structure on the walls with lights on them. Inside the mansion is a diamond chandelier hung on the ceiling. A huge pipe of water fell at the corner of a large living room with sofas that looked like a throne. The staircase had a red carpet sprayed on them and the handrail made of gold. Cecil admired everywhere with her mouth spread wide. She turned and said to Brie, “I swear with my whole life that I shall get one of you married in this house”. 

 

Everyone at the party was putting on a white or yellow outfit. There were also numerous people there having champagne and having one conversation or another with each other. Cecil just told her family to follow her lead at the party. She did not even care about greeting anyone there and kept on searching with her eyes for Denny. “Oh! My dearest friend!” Cecil said as she saw Denny that she had been looking coming towards them. They embraced each other like friends do. “I must say that this is the finest house I have ever set my eyes on”, Cecil said wholeheartedly. 

 

“Thank you. Will you give me the honor of introducing these people to me”, Denny asked, now looking at her family. “No problem. Well, this is my husband, Gilbert Gracefield, my third daughter, Brie, and my only son, Andy. And this is my long-term friend, Denny Queen”. Cecil introduced them. “Good day Mr. Gilbert and you two. Gosh! You have such a beautiful daughter”, Denny complimented. “You need to see the rest of them. They are the best gift that God gave me”, Cecil boasted. “Make yourselves comfortable. Come let me show you around the house”, Denny took Cecil. She was very astonished when she was shown the other part of the house. A beautiful Jacuzzi in another wing of the mansion and a huge courtier where different kinds and brands of wine were kept. Cecil felt jealous because there was another woman who was even way richer than her. So her plan was how to get her son, who owns this mansion, to marry one of her daughters. But how can that happen? She has to look for a good strategy. Cecil went upstairs afterwards with Denny so she could see some other parts inside the mansion. She left her daughter, Brie, her husband and then her son as well, who all came with her to the party. Brie began to look around the whole place. She was amazed by what she saw, but at the same time, she discovered that she was the only one who was dressing in such an expensive way at the party. The whole outfit stuff was kind of her mom’s idea as she always wanted her daughter to be well noticed anywhere they. People began to look at her in a strange way and ask if she thought she had come to a wedding party that made her dress up almost like a princess. 

                

Brie was standing beside her father, who was in a wheelchair. As she was looking around she saw a group of guys who were having a conversation, of which one of them kept on eyeing her. She just told herself that it might have been due to the elegant outfit she was wearing and nothing more. Due to that, she just ignored him. She picked up two glasses of wine from the waitress who just passed her; one for herself and the other for her father. “I think this is actually a fine party in a really fine mansion”, Mr. Gilbert said. “Yeah, I love the way the house is built and I am sure the owner is very huge to have built something this big and extravagant”, Brie replied. Andrew, who had been pressing his phone all this while, was kind of fed up with what was happening and decided to leave his dad and sister behind without even letting them know. “I don’t know why I am just feeling a little headache”, Mr. Gilbert said. “Really, dad? Did you take your medicine before coming to the party this morning?” Brie asked. “It has been long since I stopped taking my medicines, Brie”, he said. “I think we have to get, mom and start going home, so that you can take your medicine and see if you can feel better”, Brie suggested as she a bit worried. “No, let’s not do that darling. You know how important this party is for your mom that she even had to force us to come. So she can’t listen to you and just cancel all her plans like that”, he said. “Okay, at least let us just tell her that we are going home so that you can take your medicine and relax. Maybe the driver will now come back and pick her up when she is done with her thing”, Brie said. Mr. Gilbert now gave her a go ahead to try and see if she could tell her mother all she said. When Brie got to the staircase, she was struggling to climb up due to the long dress she was wearing. She feared that she might have a fall or even have her dress thorn if she forced herself to climb up the staircase. While she kept on thinking what she could do, she felt someone’s presence behind her back. 

 

“Can I offer help to you”, she heard the voice of her young man. She turned round to find out who it was only to see a very handsome girl who was dressed, on a suit stretching her hands to help her up the stairs. She blushed a little bit because this is not something she usually happens to her. She accepted the offer and placed her hand over that of the young guy. They began to take their time up the stairs with ease. The young guy held the right hand of Brie while she placed her right on the hand rail. It did not take much time before they got upstairs. Brie now decided to ask the guy if he knew anything about the mansion as she is looking for her mom. “Please, do you know the room of the owner of this mansion? I am actually looking for my mom who came inside here with her”, Brie said. The young guy gave her the direction she needed and she thanked him afterwards. “By the way, my name is Brie and it is a pleasure meeting you”, Brie said as she stretched out her left hand. “My name is Kingsley. It is also my pleasure”, the young guy said. He kissed the hands of Brie later before he left. 

 

Brie followed the direction which was give to her by the young man she saw a while ago. She knocked on the door when she arrived at the room where her mom is with her friend. “Come on”, Brie’s mom said without really knowing who was knocking on the door. “Oh! Brie you are here. I thought you guys were downstairs enjoying the party like I am doing inside here”, Cecil said with a bit of surprise to see Brie. “Yes mom. But dad is complaining that his headaches have started again and he forgot to take his medicine. So I came to tell you that we want to go home so that I can give him his medicine and he can relax afterwards to calm his head”, Brie explained. “I have always told you girls that you dad doesn’t like listening. Now he has failed to take his medicines and wants us to suffer for it”, Cecil said. “There is no problem dear, you can go home with them so you can take care of your husband”, Cecil’s friend told her. Brie was standing just after the door as she listened to them. “But is what my husband just did now a good thing?” Cecil asked, sounding very unhappy. “Let’s forget about that Cecil. Look at your daughter and how beautiful her dress is. Where did you two get it from because I know you have eyes for beautiful things like this”, Cecil’s friend said as they both smiled. “It is a very expensive dress my dear. We actually got it from France after we went there for a fashion week not too long ago”, Cecil bragged like she usually does. 

 

After the whole talk, the three of them went downstairs so that Cecil’s friend can escort her and her daughter home. On the side of Andrew who is also at the party, he ordered some straw berries which he sat down on a table alone and was eating. As soon as he decided to get up from where he was sitting, he mistakenly bumped into a lady who was coming to his direction. The wine he was also holding spilled on the girl’s dress. He was still starring at her with surprise and was telling himself that he is sure what happened is not his fault. “Oh my God!” the lady shouted looking at the mess caused by Andrew on her dress. The lady now looked up and was waiting for an apology but did not get any. “Didn’t you see the mess you caused on my dress young man”, she said. “Sorry about that even though you are the one who bumped into me”, Andrew replied, reluctantly. “Why would I bump into you for you to stain my dress or what”, she said angrily due to the reaction Andrew was giving her. “Come on lady, I already know how you people keep on flirting around with guys because I have witnessed all that a lot okay”, Andrew said. He claimed that the lady did all that intention so she can get his attention. That was the opposite of what the lady had in mind which made to tell Andrew that he was behaving very rude in a loud tone. 

 

Cecil, Brie and her friend were approaching their direction while all these were happening. People around Andrew and the young lady now began to stare at them to know what was going on. The lady did not care and kept on demanding for an apology from him and also a payment for spoiling her dress. Andrew accepted that he might pay for the dress but cannot tender an apology. A man came forward to them and demanded to know what was going on. They explained everything to him of which he settled the case by paying the lady who did want Andrew’s apology again as he was stubborn to give into that. Brie and her mom were just standing from far away looking at the whole incident without realizing it was serious not so long ago. Brie was wondering who the man standing with Andrew was because she did not see his face. When Andrew was done settling scores with the man, he saw his mom and sister and came to them. Brie out of curiosity asked what was happening of which Andrew did not really give her a detail on. 

 

Denny, the friend of Cecil helped escort them to their car as they were about to go due to the condition of her husband. Brie, Andrew and their father entered their car but Cecil stood back to make sure her plans was not cut short by the brief party. “I am sorry that we had to go back home so early and I didn’t get to see your sons or even enjoy your house warming with you”, Cecil said. “There is no problem dear friend. We can always catch up next time”, Denny responded. “Yes, but I was thinking we could have a family dinner at my place tomorrow. You know you will get to bring your sons and my daughter will there as well and everyone will just get to know to each other”, Cecil added as she was making her moves. “I think that is an awesome idea. My son’s got her newly and don’t really know anyone. So this is like a good gesture to start doing so”, Denny said. They both hugged and pecked each other before Cecil got into her car with the rest of her family and left happily knowing that her plans are halfway done. When they got home, Cecil could not say anything about the upcoming family dinner that night because Macrina and Kay her two daughters were already in and the rest of the people she came back with were also very tired and did the same too. At breakfast in the morning, Cecil decided to come last to the table so she can be sure everyone is present before she can make her announcement. She was in a very happy mood and stood at the head of the long table to talk. “Listen everyone, we are having a very important family dinner tonight. It is important because we are going to be having some guests joining us. The guests are the family we went for their house opening last night. So I want you all to be on your best dress and behave in your best manners. See it as matching some young billionaire bachelors with billionaire spinsters as well”, Cecil announced. “The good part is that some people might finally be getting married at the end”, Cecil added. “Wait mom, is this just a family date or something you have set up for us again because you are thinking too much now”, Kay said. “Call it whatever you want, but things must go as planned”, Cecil said in a commanding way.
