"What did you do?" Lisa asks as she kicks the chair away, showing her devil mode in the fullest form possible. I wonder why Mom and dad never put her in control. If I was the one doing it, I would be living on the road. But then again, that is the thing. They love her as their only child and hate me as the only burden in the family.
"I promise you Lisa, it was nothing. He came up to me himse—" my voice cuts off under Lisa's hold on my dress. She starts tearing Mariam's hard work apart in a second, her sharp nails digging into my skin. Tears swell up my eyes.
"Where? Where is it? Did you let him fuck you in this dress?" She sniffs my body and keeps doing it, her claws digging into the skin of my arms.
"Lisa, please. It's hurting." My tears start sliding down my eyes and soak my cheeks.
"Where is it? His mark on you!" She keeps looking but after finding nothing, gives up. Her nostrils flare and her eyes look murderous. I am scared that if she has a knife at hand, she would not hesitate to use it on me.
"I told you. I didn't do anything."
"Lies! I know you did something. Or else, how can the King Alpha choose someone worthless like you? Even a street dog would think twice before fucking you…"
"Lisa! Hazel! Come downstairs!!" The voice of mom comes through the open door. Lisa gives me another murderous glare and then stomps downstairs. I follow her, keeping my distance as much as possible.
In a second, we both stand in front of Barnards who strictly look at me and my condition. Since mom called us immediately, I did not have the time to change my clothes into something that would hide more skin of mine. I just hope that they at least would scold Lisa for this kind of behaviour. Mom looks at me for a very long minute and then parts her lips to speak. "You come with me." Her order is cold and Lisa's eyebrows furrow. She looks at me but I don't and walk with my mother to their bedroom.
She closes the door once I am inside and then comes close to me. Her unwavering, cold gaze scares the shit out of me. My lips quiver as I try to form an explanation. "I–didn't…"
"Listen, you lowlife scum." Her voice is low,but there is a tone of warning in it. "I don't know what witchery you crafted on the King Alpha. But if you are going to live with him, then I have a job for you." I frown. She certainly has her motives. "Even though he chose you for some illusion I believe, you need to fail the marriage trials."
"What? Bu—"
She holds her index finger right at me. "I do not care what you do there. But your job will be to make the King Alpha believe that his choice is wrong and Lisa is a much better choice for him."
"But if I fail then—"
"I do not care what happens to you. You do it or else I will end your life!" Her eyes expand in the rage of terrorising me.
"Th–then the Alpha will hurt you…" I gulp in the lump in my throat. I have to try my luck with this lie.
Her eyes soften and her lips stretch apart. In a moment, she bursts out in laughter. "Oh my MoonGod...hahaha! You silly fool." She holds my chin upright between her big mails and I hiss in pain. Her face comes back to the terrorising expression. "What do you think of me, huh? That I am a fool? I did my homework before I came to the ball. The King Alpha does not have Intentions to marry and he certainly chose a shit like you as a showpiece to flash for a weak. He doesn't give a fuck about you!"
More tears start gathering in my eyes, making my mother's scary face appear hazy. She yanks me closer. "Now listen! Do what I tell you or else your life's in danger. Get that?" She asks and I nod my head. "Good girl." She releases my chin, and I hold the area which is bruised by her nails. "Now go to your room and start packing. The King Alpha will send his men tomorrow to pick you up. I want everything ready."
"Sure." I say and dip my head down, holding back the tears. She opens the door for me and I quickly head to my room. Lisa tries to stop me with her swearings but mom stops her and I believe tells her the plan she has been devising for so long. I did not believe until now that she can be someone who keeps her plans ahead.
I close the door behind me and let the tears fall from my eyes. The water makes the bruise in my chin burn with its touch but I let it be because the pain inside is more compared to these little bruises. I have been experiencing a lot of domestic violence from the beginning of my day here. Just like Cindrella, I worked day in and out for the family and then got leftovers and swearings and beatings as my reward. I did try to escape this pain in different types of ways. Sometimes hanging to the ceiling fan, sometimes planning to jump off the roof. But I was scared. Scared that I will miss out on the good days that will come for me. Yes, I still have hope. Like Cindrella, I have hope too. And I am living on it.
I look at my reflection in the mirror and my heart breaks like the torn pieces of the dress. Mariam worked so hard on it. I cannot tell her that this happened to me. She would be furious and do something out of line that will only put her in more trouble. Messing with the Barnards only brings more trouble. I learned this after a long time. In the beginning, I used to defend my virtue and then faced the harsh consequences. The outside world is just as cruel as them. With the werewolves roaming around, my life stands on a thin rope hanging on the top of a hill groove. Being King Alpha's marriage trial is only going to make things worse for me. The type of personality he has clearly shows that he allows no mercy. Plus, I have heard about his past tales. He can snap my neck like a twig if he ever feels like it.
I sigh. I should have known that my fate would pull me out of one hell, only to be placed in another one.

Hope you are enjoying the story so far. Please do leave a review as it motivates me a lot.
There is a knock at the front door of the house and it shakes up the core within me. Dad walks ahead and gestures to me to behave properly in front of the King Alpha. I straighten my dress and my hair. Mom did not put any effort in my look because as per her plan,I am supposed to look ugly in comparison to Lisa who is all dolled up to steal hearts. I just hope the guys understand that it is all exterior. I never understood why men go for external looks when after a certain time it all becomes common. The books I read spoke about the love that emerged from knowing the soul of a person. How they actually are from within and not from their looks. I wonder what changed. The door opens and two large, black suit wearing men stand on the porch with their ramrod straight backs and proud uplifted heads. They are certainly werewolves who work under the King Alpha. The air of royalty they radiate from just being working under him makes it obvious what a high position
Calm green eyes stare at me as he steps inside, his well built, large body radiating dominance. I feel like sitting up straight in my seat and then the need of standing to give him respect. And I do so. He waves his hand. "No need. Sit down." He orders and I do so, again. It is as if I walk on his command. Though considering my history, I have been working on pretty much everyone's command. Who really cares what I want to do? He strides towards me and stands tall above, making my small figure look up at him, literally craning my neck. "I hope you understand that this place is only temporary. Do not get used to it." He says in his loud voice, making me shiver. I believe this is the type of power the King Alpha should hold in his voice or else no one would obey him."Yes, King Alpha." I say, more loudly than required."No need to call me that. When it comes to addressing me, you use Sire when nobody is around. And when people are aro
After eating the full plate of pasta that tastes like heaven, I lay down on the cloud that is called a bed. My eyelids feel heavy and the designed ceiling on top of me starts to get hazy with each second. And before my consciousness can warm me, darkness evades everything. But not before seeing the reflection of a very handsome face with dazzling green eyes. I could never tell that King Alpha is so good looking.A thud wakes me up from my sleep and I sit straight on the bed, finding myself in the exact condition from where I left. I didn't even change my clothes. What an idiot! Another knock comes from the door and I call the person to come in. The door opens wide and Olivia walks in with her eyes fixed on the ground. I believe that it is the rule here that royals should not be looked up to by the maids. I was pretty much treated the same way in my house. Calling it my house would be an overstatement."It's alright. You can look
Olivia fidgets with the fabric of her maid uniform. "I don't know. But from what I can tell, it will be very difficult for you to make your place here. Our Sire is a very complicated man." She inhales sharply and I frown."Complicated?" Honestly, what I could make out of him from the first day is that he is a very arrogant, cocky person who thinks very highly of himself and little of others. At least that's how he behaved in front of me."You will learn eventually. You came today, right? Maybe in a few weeks, you will understand what I am saying." Her voice goes deep and I gulp the lump in my throat. This does not sound good at all. "Eh–if you don't mind–umm–may I ask how you met Sire?""Well, in the Acadia where the mating ball is held." I shrug.Olivia's eyebrows furrow in perplexity. "Okay. But as far as I know Sire, he is a very picky person
"What is that? What way?" I shake Olivia who appears to be in a mode of trance, her eyes fixed ahead of me.She blinks and looks at me with a confused look. "Huh?""You told me that there is a way. A way for me to not go to the Dark Shadow Society. A way for me to survive." I say, desperation clinging to my voice. I cannot help myself. The moment she said there is a way, it's like I see a small fragment of light in the darkness. Even if it's not the proper escape route, it is something for me."Oh, yes." She bites her lip. "Sorry, I was just thinking about something. But yes, I know a way but it is also very risky."I hold her palms and look at her with pleading eyes. "Please. Just tell me anyway. Living with the one and only King Alpha is a risk in itself." I mean what I say. That man is extremely scary and I don't know what fate lies ahead of me. And it is hard to believe that tho
I open my eyes and find darkness all around. There is a small glint of light on my left that illuminates the polished walls and the huge double door in front of me. Where am I? When did I reach here? I turn back, but empty, black darkness appears ahead of me. This is so strange. Finding nowhere else to go, I walk towards the double door and put my hand on the cold mahogany. I slowly push it open and see a balcony, with a person's silhouette standing in front of the railing. The full moon shines under the night sky in it's full glory and the stars twinkle brightly. It looks beautiful. But who is that person?"Hello?" I call that person out but the silhouette does not turn. It keeps standing in front of the railing. I frown and step a little closer. "Uhm, do you stay here?" I try again, but the silhouette does not move an inch. It is standing there like a statute. And then, it stands on top of the railing. My eyes grow wide. "Hey! Don't stand the
I cannot look. Look up at his eyes, face him and tell him that he is simply being a dick. I always wanted to stand up to my parents. But never had the audacity to do it. And now, I can't even look him in the eye. Why am I so weak?"I'm sorry, Alpha." I say. He does not give a reply and walks away from me, giving me the space to breathe. I look up at the nice gardener who is cutting the grass. I should not disturb him. It will only cause him more trouble. I head back to the mansion, considering my position in this house. First a failed Marriage trial and now a low life. That is what I am in his eyes. That is what I keep hearing from everybody. When you hear something for so long, you start believing in it. I believe that this is what my life will be like. Chained and humiliated by others. Maybe I should start accepting it too. Waiting for any kind of hope is stupid.I enter the door of the mansion and look at the empty dark corrid
I turn back and shine the light on the source ,but nothing more except the bark of a tree comes to my sight. So I hold my chest, to stabilize my rapid breathing. Maybe I am just thinking too much. But then the sound of something crack catches my attention and I look frantically here and there. Someone is here. "Who's there?" I shout, but no one responds. My legs start walking ahead, my vision entering the darker parts of the wood. I shouldn't have come here. I should be going back. But everything is so dark that I can't even remember my way back to the mansion. All of a sudden, a loud growl hits my ears and I squinch at the sound. My heart beat catches it's pace and without a second thought, I start running. I don't know where I am going, but more and more trees invite my sight, enveloped with the darkness of the evening. No one will be able to hear me at this moment, when I am so deep in this forest. Will I even be able to come out? What if I am lost here f

As I walk towards my room, I see a shadow on the wall passing my eyes in a second. It was like a blink. I turn around and look everywhere. But all I find are the silent walls, the creepy paintings and the door to my room. That's all. It might be a trick of the light, but after going through weird experiences in this mansion, I am not so sure anymore. Has someone walked by? But how can they be so quick? I shrug, annoyed by my own internal questions. I should stop asking so many questions to things that I can never understand. Just like that werewolf in the forest. The next morning, I wake up and start making my bed. I yawn a few times, because the sleep wasn't good enough. I had weird dreams of that werewolf chasing me in that forest. God knows what's happening to me. If things go like this, I will become a mental patient soon. Hopefully, the mental asylum will be a better p
I don't understand my own instincts right now. I should be running out of this place and hiding deep inside the mansion, even though it does not feel safe there either. But rather, I am standing here, caressing the fur of the wolf's face to comfort it. If it gets too comfortable then I will be the next meal. Yet something about it feels very familiar. Have I seen it before? I barely have come across any wolves before, how can I know this one? The wolf does not resist my action and just sits on the ground with his eyes closed. The blood flow had stopped, but medicine was required to heal it. How am I supposed to tell it to come with me? And where would I get the medicine?Sadness grips over me as I understand that I cannot help it after this. Even though it is one dangerous creature, no one should be considered harmful before you learn their reason. The Barnard's called out to me as a threat and mistreated me, even before understanding what I was going thro
