30. Cobras
I started to look around, hoping to make it back out of the building. I was about to pull out my earbud to listen better when I heard Damian on the other end of the line.
"Don't hang up. Stay on the line. I'll be there as soon as I can."
"Ok." I whispered, hoping no one would overhear me. I quickly spun around to head towards the entrance when I heard someone cock a gun from behind.
"Don't move. Or I'll shoot." A gruff man's voice said from behind me.
I immediately stopped dead in my tracks. I could feel tears prick the side of my face. I raised my hands in a sign of surrender.
"Who are you?" The man called out.
"No one. If you let me go, I promise I won't tell anyone. I never even saw you." I whimpered. I knew Damian could hear me, but he remained silent. I was thankful, as the man behind didn't know I had someone on the phone. Since my hair was down, he couldn't see the earpod in my ear.
"Turn around." The man commanded.
"No.

I was driving myself insane. After we got to the hospital, the doctors rushed her into surgery. I had to look away from her at one point. She had been shot four times. Once on her arm, one in her leg, in her shoulder, and another near her heart. It was the bullet near her heart we were all worried about. There was no exit wound, which meant the bullet was still inside her. Not only that but because of using the AED, there was a good chance the bullet may have shifted, causing her internal bleeding. The medical team had managed to revive her. However, she hadn't actually woken up yet. After I dropped Jessica off at her place, I had to make a few phone calls. I wanted to arrange a meal service for Jessica. It was the least I could do. I didn't want her to either skip meals or have to worry about making them. I wanted to try and help her as much as I could. ...Damian POV...Nearly two weeks have gone past since the incident. I haven't left her side once. I was thankful for my brother, as he managed to upgrade her room, including providing her with a queen-sized mattress. Zane also had a laptop sent over so that I could work from here. Then, in the evening, I would sleep next to her, placing her head gently on my chest. I would talk to her throughout the day in hopes that she would get better.
