Center Kingdom, present time.
“Don’t go in there, Lucas.”
Lucas glared and kept on walking into the house. The door was ajar. Humid air welcomed him mixed with the smell of burning flesh and blood. He turned to the living room where a flame hanging on the side wall. Not much damage had done in the room, but he saw a very strange way death of a man.
He recognized who the dead man was. He stared at the dead body sadly, there was a scorch in his skin, not all of his skin but a straight line from head down his forehead to the center his nose and divided his lips into four, the line went all the way down to each of his foot. His eyes were open and almost out of its socket.
Strong arms managed in time to prevent him touching the dead body. “I knew you’d be like this.”
“Let me go, Darren.” Lucas hissed the order through clenched teeth. Tears welled the rim of his eyes. “That’s Janvi. He’s, he’s…” The word dead didn’t exist in his head for the moment. He didn’t want to believe what he saw. He didn’t want the scene before his eyes to be true. Like he wanted to undo the things to the way it was before.
Janvi was his cousin. They grew up together, even though Janvi was few years older than him, they treat each other like brothers. Everyone in the kingdom knew Janvi was a strong and calm wizard, and he was just got married to the girl he loved. Wait. He was married. Married!
Where was his wife? Was she alright?
“Calm down?” Darren’s voice broke his thought. “Look the one on his side.” He followed Darren’s suggestion. He was too focus on Janvi and failed to notice there was another dead body in the room.
“Kat?” The arms that circled Lucas body tightened. “You can let me go, Darren. I know the rule.” He felt the arms lifted reluctantly. Ever since the first death found two years ago, the rulers of three kingdoms had set one rule if one ever met an odd death by dark creature. Never touch the dead body and went straight to the nearest guard, so that the dead body could be burnt.
Not far from Janvi’s body was a woman dead body. She was impossible to be recognized except for Janvi’s heirloom ring in her finger. Her face was destroyed, her dress was torn everywhere with blood stain, and her hair was half burn. She must have been experienced death in a very painful way was Lucas conclusion.
Seeing his cousin and his wife had to experienced horrible death, his heart shattered for them and all those who had to face the same fate.
“You alright?” Darren was on his side, observing his tight expression.
“Yea…” Then effortlessly he moved his hand in the air, casting silent spell summoning the heirloom from her finger. He looked sideways at Darren after the ring was safe inside of the inside pocket of his thick coat, motioning Darren and the two guards to follow him out. “Whose house is this? What were they doing in here?”
“Lord Janvier had sensed a huge amount of dark energy and told us to evacuate the village people to a safer place. His highness and Lady Katrina tried to hold those dark creatures up in this place—”
“I don’t think ordinary dark creature can kill them, beside those creatures don’t kill, they eat their prey.” Darren cut one of the guard’s explanation.
Lucas ignited a fireball on his hand then threw it at the house. He watched the fire covering the house, burn everything down, including his cousins. There would be time for grieve, but not now, he was filled with anger now. Wanting to end this situation quickly.
He was processing what had happened when Darren pulled him harshly. The guards casted spells, yelling. His eyes turned wide as he lost count of the dark creature’s amount that coming from behind the rows of the distant trees. There were so many kinds of them.
Anger took him over. How dare they remained in here to enjoy his loss. He shouted, barking at his guards to pull back. He almost flew as he killed all the front row dark creatures. It was an easy kill. They can be killed but never in easy way.
There was something unusual about them. Like they were waiting for a command.
Lucas held his second blow, observing the enemy’s movement from a safe distance.
“Are they making a way? For who?” Darren stood next to him.
A beautiful woman in red dress showed from a way that formed between those creatures. As she stood in front of them, facing Lucas and Darren directly, the creatures behind her fell to their knees.
Lucas and Darren looked at each other.
“Why are you kill them?” The woman pointed at the dead creatures. “They’re innocent. Is this a declaration to an open war?” She smiled and her beautiful face looked cruel at the same time.
By the way those dark creatures respectfully bow before her, she must have been the one that they should defeated. Then another conclusion popped in his head, regarding the nature of the dark creature and how his cousins found dead. “You killed my cousins.” Lucas tried to suppress his anger.
Her smile didn’t falter. “You are the prince then.” Even more cruel. “Tell me, Prince. Are we having an open war now?”
“NOOOO…” Darren sent a big blow at her which she, without lifting a hand turned his spell back at him. He was afraid if they truly had an open war right now, they might die right away. Because their number was less than those creatures.
Lucas’s protection spell set firmly right on time when the turning spell hit them.
She looked at them coldly, no longer smile. “Your cousin’s fight was more interesting than this.” Then she snapped her fingers. A whirlwind of fire as tall as the tree came out of nowhere. She disappeared into it followed by the rest of the creatures.
Later when the fire whirlwind gone, Lucas and Darren were down on the snow. The rest of the guards were hiding behind trees.
Lucas got up first, staring at the spot where the woman and her followers gone. “Why she changes her mind? She definitely can kill us easily, why don’t she?
“What was that? I’ve never seen that kind of magic.” Darren dusted his coat from snow.
“Why did you do that?” Lucas growled upon hearing Darren’s innocent tone. “She killed Janvi and Kat. And undoubtedly the reason behind this two-years harsh winter. I could’ve had the chance to kill her, if you hadn’t tried to act smart.”
Darren was speechless at Lucas’s hostile look.
Lucas was so angry as his aura blackened. He wanted to sort his thought first. So, he took few steps back intended to turn around. But somehow, he didn’t understand how and why his feet slipped and he fell, his back landed on a solid surface. They were in the middle of winter with very thick snow everywhere. How come my back hit something hard? Thought Lucas inside.
Dusty and dry air filled his nostril. He blinked few times, his eyes felt itchy. Wanting to rubbed his eyes, he lifted his right hand then frowned. There was a book in his hand.
Soon, he regretted his abrupt move to stand as he felt a slight dizzy.
“Where the hell am I?” He whispered alone, looking around, thick dust covered the tall window but morning sunrays beamed through it smoothly.
Just to make sure his instinct was correct. He strode towards the window. The grasses were green, the ground was fresh, birds were flying crossed the blue sky.
Before anybody could see him, he retreated back. “I must’ve been unconsciously time traveled again. How far back?”
He paced back and forth. Half thinking, half panicking. The dizzy was back again, he wanted to massage the bridge of his nose, then he realized he still held the book. Then his eyes went to the wall that hosted the floor to ceiling shelves. There was one empty space the same size as the book in his hand.
Shaking unimportant thoughts away, he strode towards the only chair in the room, then opened the book, because there must be something in here that fate wanted him to learn.
As he drawn in his reading, the smile on his face grew wider. The book told him the exact time of he was right now. It grew wider and wider because this one book gave him a way to solve his predicament.
His mind was at ease. In order to go back to his rightful place and time, he needed to restore his energy. So, he closed his itchy eyes. The warm atmosphere lulled him, dozing him off faster.
How long he had been asleep was a mystery. He woke by the sound of people talking in hush tone. Shock as he was surrounded by snow again, the book was still in his hand. This was never happened before, never as long as he remembered, he did time travel home in sleep.
The hush tone talking was getting louder, he rose then rushed towards the town’s street and saw the town’s people were march towards the castle.
“Why they’re heading to the castle?” Lucas approached the nearest guard.
The guard’s eyes turned wider. “Your Highness, we thought you were vanished.” With Lucas demanding look, the guard continued. “His Majesty orders all the people in town evacuated to a safer place.”
“Why?”
“Two days ago, you’re gone. Lord D freaked out home then not long after, the outer village was attacked by immense dark forces—”
“Alright.” He patted the guard’s shoulder. “Keep them safe.”
He needed to reach the castle faster. Impossible went through the street right now, he couldn’t teleport, but he could jump. Yes.
Then he jumped from roof to roof until he reached the castle tallest roof.
Soon, he made the glass in his window chamber disappear, then landed into his chamber quietly.
The atmosphere in the castle was eerie. Everyone was busy, saving themselves or others.
In hurry, Lucas had to find his father and all the commanders along with the advisors. He headed to throne room that turned into strategy and meeting point chamber.
With full energy he pushed the double doors open. The conversation in the room instantly ended, all eyes turned to the door, to him.
“I know a way to defeat her.” He told to all the people in the room.
“Lucas.” His father voice trembled from across the large round table. “You’re alive.”
“Yes, Father. Thank goodness.” Lucas replied to his father.
“What do you mean you know a way to defeat her? Who is her?” General Chan puzzled, exchanging the same expression with the rest of the people in the room.
Except for Darren of course. Lucas glared at him. “Many things happen at the same time, I forgot to mention her, I suppose.” Darren’s voice sounded guilty, he avoided Lucas eye contact.
“Would one of you care to explain to us who is the her that we’re going to defeat?” Asked Lucas’s father tiredly.
“She is the one behind all this nightmare.” Lucas took steps forward. Nothing on the floor that would made him trip, but somehow his feet slipped and he tripped. The feeling was as odd as before, he recognized it. “Shit. Not again.” Then he fell.
Hi, I'm revising my story. Hope you like it :)
“Irina, why are you following me again?” Roman looked at his daughter, amused by the way she stood close to him. “If you are so afraid, why don’t you just stay at home. It’s not even dark yet.” He earned a glare from her that made him chuckle. “I am not afraid, Papa. I’m just worry about you. By the time you light all the lampposts on the street, it would already dark and you don’t have someone to talk to on your way home.” Irina watched the twilight across the river, admiring its beauty. A light chuckle escaped from her father. “Of course, you are.” Then he stretched his hand to her. She took his hand, smoothly slid her hand up to cling on his arm as they walked to the next lamppost. “I’m going to the library tomorrow.” Roman lifted one brow hearing her exciting tone. “Aren’t you going there like everyday?” Emphasizing on the words like everyday, then he continued. “What’s so special about going there tomorrow?” “Because,” She smiled widely. “I might able to make my dream come tr
PRANKKKK… The plate in Irina’s hand smoothly landed on the floor in pieces. “Oops,” She looked at her father, ready for a lecture. “it doesn’t want me to hold it.” Irina didn’t feel guilty. She knew somehow her father would manage to bring the same plate home. Although she didn’t understand why her father didn’t bring plate with different colors or motives home. Why it had to be the same type? Roman’s eyes were on the floor, then swiftly turned to his daughter’s guiltless expression. He sighed at her ridiculous excuse. “That’s the second plate for this morning.” “Sorry…” Snorting, Roman knew his daughter didn’t regret it at all. “Please don’t help me and go to your room. I’ll call you when breakfast ready.” “No, Papa. I need to help you so we can have breakfast faster.” “No! You proved it already, your help slows the process. Now go wait in your room. I’m afraid if I let you stay here, I’m sure you’d broke all our plates and glasses.” “But…” Irina faced her father’s one brow li
Irina walked out of the library, feeling down and angry. Even though she had reached the exit door, she could still hear their yells clearly. Home wasn’t the right place to be in right now. She needed time to be alone to clear her mind and calm her fuming heart. The forest was perfect for it, as always. Thus, she strode through the arch bridge and then turned left. Walking straight into the dense forest. The event in the library was still fresh in her mind. She felt betrayed. As the library’s loyal member, she knew all the library’s staff because she had visited it regularly. So, why they’re not considering her to be one of them instead of that stranger man? With crumpled mind she set foot on the forest ground. Breezy air blew gently over her face. Telling her that she was on the right path to the river. Half way, where soil ground gradually became green with soft wild grass. Irina’s mind repeatedly played the event in the library, but as soon as the scenery changed, she took off
Lunch time, Irina opened the front door as gently as she could. Although she already prepared herself for a thorough lecture from her father, she still took precaution. If she could avoid the disciplinary lecture, why not? Peeking through the slight open door, the hall that led to the living room was quiet. She stepped inside, still with the same precaution, she tiptoed towards the stairs. When she passed the living room, her father cleared his throat. She wore her pitiful expression before she turned to face her father, making sure her heart also supported her looks. “Papa, I’m sorry.” Her father gave a snort to her pleading opening line. This was not the first time though. She went out of the house without telling him, and he suddenly appeared in the room which she made sure that he wasn’t in it. So, she wasn’t shocked anymore and be prepared to be scolded. Roman rolled his eyes. “I know you’re not.” “I really am, Papa.” Irina strode towards her father. She took a seat on one a
“You’ll look amazing if you weren’t pouting.” Nieal handed a cup of tea to Irina. Irina took the cup, her eyes wandered over to the selections of beverages on the long table across them. Did this mean she could only drink tea throughout the ball? Nieal didn’t have to tell Irina directly that the other beverages weren’t for her, the cup of tea in her hand was enough for her to understand. Nieal was being over-protective again. Argh. She was a grown woman and allowed to drink alcohol. “Then I don’t want looking amazing.” “Oh, come on. This is my welcome home ball. Aren’t you happy that I come back with no scratch?” “Then let me give you that scratch.” Whispered Irina as she sipped the tea. “Besides, this is my normal look, I’m sorry for being not amazing.” Nieal laughed. Making people turned at their direction. While Irina hid her face, pretending she was enjoying her tea. Butler Rhys came, three people was with him. ”Master, Deputy Ashen and his sons are here.” With falter laugh
Earlier in the morning, Lucas woke, panting. Beads of sweat visible in his forehead, damping his clothes. Horrible dreams haunted him for the past week. It felt real as if the dreams really happened in his life. When a dream came repeatedly, it usually had a deeper meaning behind it, right? But what was the meaning of his dream? Who was he? Why he had those kinds of dream? He didn’t have the answers for those questions. A week ago, Lucas woke, screaming. His head hurt like it would split into two, blurring his vision too. When the pain gradually subsided few moments later, he could see middle aged woman watching him. Concern was all over her face. She introduced herself as Mrs. Letty. She explained that she found him unconscious near her house, and had helped him because she recognized he was the same kind as her. He told her his name was Lucas when she asked and nodded when she wanted to know if he knew he was a wizard. Then, a week later, he still didn’t know who he was but his
Mrs. Letty back right when some walking guards made a loud noise with the bell in his hand. One of them yelled an announcement, he started yelling before the bell stopped tolling. To get a better hearing, some women ran to the front door, then the rest followed. While Lucas and Mrs. Letty looked at each other, at loss of word. They shook their head almost in unison then resumed their work. “Lucas…” A woman called him. She was running from the door to his table. Panting lightly, she asked. “Will you go to the ball with—” Her words cut by another woman. “No! Don’t you think about it.” Then she looked at Lucas with what she thought was an adorable face. “What do you think, Lucas? We’ll see you at the ball, yes?” The guards announced that the town’s master invited everyone in the town to his welcome home ball in his manor. “Err…” Lucas hesitated. “Come on, it’ll be fun.” Another woman tried to convince him. His and Mrs. Letty’s table were full with women, waiting for his answer. “Al
From behind a huge statue of a woman, Lucas peeked, she was in the front of tall and thin door. She opened it then disappeared into it as the door closed itself. After some times, ensuring no one was around, Lucas strode towards the door and went inside it. On a thick carpeted floor his feet fell into a silent step, his eyes wandered over the exclusive sight before him. The corridors decorated with expensive decorations and beautiful paintings were hanging on the wall. In his forgotten life, Lucas knew that he wasn’t a servant or butler, but he felt familiar with this kind of lux, somehow. There was one black and white drawing among the paintings on the wall that caught his attention. It obviously a drawing of this manor, drew from inside the stable. Very unique perspective, admired Lucas. Who drew this? Couldn’t stay long to keep on admiring the paintings as he was on a mission of tailing Irina. Lucas managed to have quite distance so that she wouldn’t notice. She led him through s
“Come in.” Said Julian. Irina stepped in to his study inside his castle. He was reading some book, then he stood after put a mark between the pages. “Hey, I hope I don’t disturb you.” “It’s a pleasure to have you here. What can I do for you?” Julian motioned her to take a seat. She pulled a chair behind the clean polished round table, before Julian could do it for her. Julian took a seat across her right after she was settles in her seat. “I want to see how are you doing. You were not there, in the cottage, when we were saying goodbye to Deandra this morning. Lucas taking her back.” That look again, thought Irina. The miserable mixed with sorrowful in blank look. It was just too sad to see. Irina could sense the hurt that he felt in his heart. It seemed he truly love Deandra. “I know.” He said. “I’m so sorry.” Julian wanted to look alright, that’s why he smiled at her as he couldn’t mutter any good respond.
Two days had passed since Lady Cotts’s stiff body dropped dead on to the floor the same time as the last grain of sand in the hourglass. They hadn’t burry her lifeless body yet, she was placed in the glass coffin. Her eyes were cannot be closed, they were wide open and black, with the trace of suppressed fire on them. Roman put his arm around Irina’s shoulder. They both were staring at the glass coffin. “I made her dead.” Said Irina blankly. “She asked for it.” Roman calmed her. He was back as soon as he sensed the energy that he had been avoided for over twenty years had faded and gone. His comeback arrival was welcomed by his daughter enthusiastically. “You did the right thing.” He squeezed her shoulder lightly. “You’re right.” Irina nodded. They heard foot step drew closer, but they didn’t turn to look who it was. “Mr. Roman, may I have a moment?” By then both father and daughter took a look. He was standing next to Roman. “
Irina looked to her side. A strong muscular big black jaguar stood firmly next to her. Little companion? She thought inside, this Iolomb surely had a real bad vision. She gave the Iolomb a sly grin. How to make the Iolomb dead was the only thing on her mind. Ro nudged her as if he could read her mind. He wanted her to go on, leaving the Iolomb with him. Irina shook her head harshly. Ro nudged again. This time, Irina heard disgusting chuckle from the Iolomb. She hated it. She hated being looked down by the creature. So, she turned to face Ro then nodded. That was all she had to do. In the blink of an eye, Ro launched with incredible speed that normal eyes wouldn’t be able to follow. Soon, he was towering in front of the Iolomb. The look of surprise on the creature’s face was only lasted for a moment. Ro made its face down onto the cold floor. What had happened next to the Iolomb, Irina would never know as she took herself upstairs. The map of t
Irina was climbing back through the transparent hole. She put firmly her foot one by one in Deandra’s bedroom. Her face was sour and she was sulking. She was never be in this worse of mood. Deandra stepped back. As the hole diminished, her conscious came. She blinked, then her eyes normal again. “Miss Irina?” Narrowing her eyes for a second at Deandra, making sure that she was free from any form of her mother’s influence. Irina closed her eyes, she forced herself to stay in control. The door swung open. Lucas was still able to see the diminishing of the hole as he came in before Julian and Hilda. “Good. You’re back.” Irina didn’t mean to sound harsh, but she sounded like one and startled Deandra. “Where are you from?” Lucas snapped. His eyes drilled into Irina’s. Hilda and Julian exchanged a look, then threw Lucas a questioning look which ignored by the later. At the same time, Deandra became more and more uneasy. Irina
“Get… Up…” Said Lady Cotts coldly. Shaking her way up, Deandra managed to stand. She stepped back. Didn’t want to be too close. “Speak!” “The king and his group are still alive.” The Iolomb stepped forward. ”I wouldn’t worry about them, Milady. They have been damaged.” “I don’t care about them.” Lady Cotts looked straight into Deandra’s eyes. Blaming her. “I want my daughter to join us.” She tore her haze, shifted to the tall glass window behind her. No one dared to respond. The Iolomb made a side glace at Deandra, while Deandra seemed more interested in her shoes. “Well?” Asked Lady Cotts. Her voice sounded gentle and sweet but somehow send shiver to the Iolomb and Deandra. “I will gather an army, Milady.” The Iolomb bowed and left the room hurriedly. From a far, Deandra saw tiny black dot moving between the treetops through the tall glass
Plakk… Deandra felt burning on her face as the tickle sound and smell of flesh burning filled the air. She fell down the floor, on one side of her body with her hand supporting her weight. Knowing that tear only made the burning felt more painful, she held in as hard as she could. “Now I have to deal with this stupid war.” Lady Cotts looked down at Deandra with loathe in her red eyes. “Milady, I have nothing to do with the war. They hate me. Especially Miss Irina, she AAAAAAAHH…” The palm that marked in her face burnt deeper into her flesh. “Don’t you dare talking about my daughter with your filthy tongue, useless human.” Right, Deandra was an ordinary human before she met the lady whose look bear a resemblance to someone she missed very much, she used to address her dearly with Miss Irina. The one who left right after her wedding. Leaving her father, Master Danieal, and Deandra. It was then in a middl
Deandra walked back and forth in circle in her bedroom. She was locked up in her bedroom, and she didn’t know why. Anxiety crawled into her heart and her head started to tell her things. ‘What did I do?’ Was the first question in her head. ‘Did I do a bad thing?’, ‘What kind of bad thing? Last time I remembered I was being pinned on the floor’, ‘Did they find out who am I?’ ‘Who am I?’ the last question echoed in her head. Her stomach growled as she didn’t touch her food since she had woken up this late afternoon and it was already dark outside. She had no appetite. She was hungry but had no intention to eat. The kind of feeling she acknowledged as a sign. Something had wiring in her vein, running with her blood through her heard then send signal to her brain. She could see but her vision was not hers, she went blank inside. She screamed. Screaming a name that she used to say it dearly. The door opened with a loud bang. “Miss I
Squeaking slowly, an older scholar two seat from Master Tobias pushed his chair back as he stood. Master Z, Lucas said inwardly. Then he turned to Julian who gave him a shrugged as he too didn’t understand. “Antony, don’t give me further reason to regret my decision of letting you pass the final assignment.” Master Z scolded the young scholar. He turned gracefully to face all the royal members in the room. “His highness is not done talking. Please continue, Your Highness. We all are listening.” Lucas nodded. “Thank you, Master Z.” He directed his stare to Antony and all of the younger scholars at the back sit. Antony got up then bowed. “My apology, Your Highness. I was wrong, jump into unreasonable conclusion.” Second later all the younger scholars raised then bowed, murmuring their apology. Taken aback by the sudden bows. What is this? New tradition to become a scholar? Thought Lucas. He swiftly shook the thoughts away. Absurd. Pullin
The sky outside almost dusked. Lucas and Irina hadn’t show themselves at the cottage. Making the atmosphere in the common room tense and anxious. Common room was full, chairs were set pushed against the wall. The large table in the middle of the room was circled by the older scholars, younger scholars were sat on chair by the wall. “Why they aren’t here yet?” Julian heard Hilda whispered softly through his ear. “It’s getting dark soon.” They were standing by the open door of the common room along with Sebastian, Darren and Captain H, waiting for Lucas and Irina. “You’re right.” Julian agreed in low voice. He turned to his best friend. “Sebastian, let’s find them.” Sebastian raised one of his brows, then without any word he followed Julian out. At the front yard, they met with the rest members of Julian’s castle. They saw Julian and Sebastian walked toward them. Julian dismissed their bow instantly as he wanted to asked them questions.
