TMUW 102: Straightforward

He was silent in front of me, looking at his hands clasped together on the table. He was just there waiting for me to say something.

In countless moments, I exhaled again. I was trying to fix my mind and arrange all the questions that I wanted to ask.

I didn't know where to start. I felt like all the questions that were bothering me were mixing together.

But in the end... "How have you been?" That was my question.

I only looked at him as he chuckled slightly. "What are we going to talk about? Time is running out. I can't stay out here for long," he replied seriously.

I bit my lower lip and nodded. I was groping for words, trying to feel out how to talk to him.

"I wasn't aware that you were imprisoned. I waited for you to visit me in the hospital with the kids, but you didn't come. Auntie Gia never mentioned this—"

"Because I told her not to," he interrupted me.

I nodded. "Did you tell her as well not to inform Uncle about this?" I asked, raising my eyes to him.
