**VANESSA’S POV**
5 PM
I sprinted through the dense bush, heart pounding like a drum in my chest. Branches snagged at my clothes, tearing at the fabric, and the sounds of shouting behind me sent adrenaline surging through my veins. They were gaining on me.
" Stop her!” a voice shouted, echoing in the night, cold and relentless.
I couldn’t let them catch me. I glanced back, catching a glimpse of Vincent, his eyes glinting with menace. All that mattered was getting away.
The chill of the night air wrapped around me , and I pushed myself to run faster. The sounds of pursuit were close—too close.
" You can't hide forever, sweetheart !”
Vincent taunted, his voice cutting through the darkness like a knife.
I tripped over a branch and groaned in pain. Will I be able to escape?
** Thirty minutes Earlier**
The atmosphere at Gork Club was electric, a pulsating blend of laughter and music that wrapped around me like a warm embrace for my birthday I was laughing with Marcello, his boyish charm lighting up the bedroom. The dim lighting cast playful shadows across his chiseled features, and for a moment, everything felt right in my chaotic life.
“Happy birthday, Vanessa,” he said, his voice low and sincere, pulling me from my thoughts as he leaned in closer.
In his hands was a small blue box, and as he opened it, my breath caught in my throat. Inside lay a beautiful silver necklace, sparkling under the club's dim lights.
“It’s beautiful!” I exclaimed, genuinely touched by his thoughtfulness.
“Put it on,” he urged, his eyes shimmering with warmth. I took the necklace from him, fingers trembling with excitement and nerves. As I fastened it around my neck, I gave him a warm smile which I knew deep down, I was hurting and afraid for my life.
Just as I was admiring my reflection in a nearby mirror, Marcello leaned closer, his breath warm against my skin. “You look amazing.”
The air thickened with high tension, and I felt my heart race. Our eyes locked, and I knew what was coming next. I can't let this happen again. He leaned in, his intentions clear.
“Marcello, wait—” I started, but it was too late.
Before our lips could meet, Tess burst into the room, her eyes wide with alarm. " Happy birthday , my beautiful sister!”
Marcello stepped back, frustration flashing in his eyes. “ Yay! Way to ruin it” he muttered under his breath.
" What are you doing baby? Were you trying to kiss her? " She asked, her voice shaky.
This was an awkward moment for me but it meant the right time for me to explain.
" I was just....."
“Just what? What is going on here? Are you guys making out on your birthday ? ” Tess interrupted, as she glared at him.
I opened my mouth to talk, to explain that it wasn’t like that, but the urgency in Tess’s voice silenced me. The tension in the room thickened, and I could feel the unease creeping in.
My hands trembled and I closed my eyes ready to tell the truth without hesitation nor thinking twice of the consequences attached,
" Tess... Marcello tried ....
" Hold up! You know ,I thought I could bring my dad here to meet you but I'm just disappointed! "
My eyes widened as I processed what she said, " You told dad where I was? I told you not to tell him. I can't believe yoou...
She scoffed, paused for a second and threw my cake on the floor.
" Ahhh! "
I glanced at Marcello to see his reaction but he only walked lazily to the bed with his hands in his pockets and satin it lighting a cigarette.
He didn't care one bit.
" I guess the rumours were true. I can't believe you would screw your sister's boyfriend! " She yelled.
I shook my head, tears welling up in my eyes. She is wrong! There was more to this.
" Tess, he's a psycho. Please,let me explain! "
" Get your hands off me! "
She ran outside the room and I followed her into the party room where everyone shouted, " Happy birthday, Vanessa! "
Suddenly, chaos erupted. A group of men stormed into the house, their shouts cutting through the laughter and music like a knife. They were shouting orders, guns drawn, and panic spread like wildfire through the crowd.
“Run!” I yelled, my heart racing as i held Tess by the arm but she flinched it off me. I didn’t know where I was going, but I had to escape. I darted toward the back exit, adrenaline surging through me.
“Get back here!” one of the men shouted, his voice grating on my nerves as I felt their hands close in around me. I fought against them, my instincts kicking in as I struggled to break free.
" This can't be happening! "I thought, dread settling in my stomach.
Tess and Marcello were close behind, fighting off their captors, but I could see the fear in their eyes. We were all in danger, and I had to protect them.
Before I could think, my legs met its body in a bush, the cold air hitting my skin like a slap. It was beginning to get dark. I turned to see Vincent standing there, his expression twisted with anger.
Vincent was the owner of the club and I had always feared him from day one. What could he possibly want with me?
“Vincent!” I gasped, stepping back instinctively.
He reached for me, but I was too quick. I ducked beneath his grasp, pushing my way past him and into the shadows.
" I have to run!" I thought desperately.
I ran deeper, the sounds of the club fading behind me. My breath came in gasps as I glanced over my shoulder, spotting Vincent following close behind.
Suddenly, I heard Tess scream. My heart dropped. I spun around, my instincts screaming for me to go back, but it was dark and scary. I had to keep moving.
“Vanessa!” Tess called again, her voice laced with fear.
I ran back the way I had come, rounding the corner just in time to see Marcello struggling against two men, his face contorted with effort.
“Get off him!” I shouted, but my voice sounded small against the chaos.
Before I could reach them, I felt a hand grip my shoulder, yanking me back. I spun around to find Vincent looming over me, a sinister smile on his face.
“Going somewhere?” he taunted, pulling me closer as I struggled against him.
" Let go of me! Please!" Panic surged through me, and in a sudden rush of instinct, I kicked his knee. He stumbled back, momentarily caught off guard.
“Vanessa, run!” Marcello yelled.
" Where is Tess? Tess! "
I glanced back at him, heart racing as I took off again. Just as I turned the corner, I spotted my father, his face illuminated by the torchlight he had pointing to his face, counting a large sum of money while his daughter was being chased.
" Dad! " I shouted, but he didn’t even look up.
" Jus go with him, Vanessa! You are too stubborn” my father finally yelled.
Vincent had me in a vice grip, dragging me deeper into the shadows.
“Stop fighting, Vanessa!” he hissed, his breath hot against my ear.
But I wouldn’t give up. I spotted something glinting on the ground—a gun, discarded but still loaded. My fingers wrapped around it instinctively.
“Vanessa, don’t!” Vincent warned, his eyes widening in fear.
But it was too late. I pulled the trigger, the deafening bang ringing in my ears as he staggered back, shock etched across his face.
My world tilted, and I felt weightless for a moment. I couldn’t think; all I knew was that I had to escape.
“You bitch” my father shouted, panic flooding his voice as he turned to flee.
But before I could react, another guy shot was heard but not not from my gun.
Whose gun?
Vanessa's POVI blinked awake, disoriented by the dim light filtering through heavy curtains. Pain lanced through my side, and I gasped, the memories flooding back —Vincent’s gun, those rough hands grabbing me, the terror of being dragged away. Panic surged within me as I tried to move, but the harsh tug on my wrist says I was tied. I was tied to a chair, the cold surface digging into my back.“Help!” I cried, the sound barely escaping my lips. " Where am I? Help!!! "My throat felt dry and raw, as if I hadn’t spoken in days. I twisted my wrists, testing the ropes, but they only tightened against my skin. The door creaked open, and my heart raced. A man stepped into the room, his silhouette sharp against the soft light behind him. He wore a suit, exuding an aura of power and confidence. As he approached, my breath caught up in my throat.“Good, you’re awake.” His voice was almost soothing, yet it sent shivers down my spine. He stepped closer, and I could finally see his features:
Vanessa's POV“Breathe,” came Dante’s calm voice, pulling me back from the brink of panic.I fell on the floor and took a quick glance at the food. My instincts told me it was filled with peanut which I was allergic to! He stood before me, his presence both commanding and unnerving. In his hand, he held an EpiPen, the sight of it making my heart race. “You’re going to need this.”“Please!” I begged, the words barely escaping my dry throat.“Your allergy medication,” he replied, his eyes narrowing. “You’re allergic to peanuts, aren’t you?”I stared at him, disbelief mingling with confusion. How did he know that? The truth was that I hadn’t shared anything about myself, let alone my vulnerabilities. “ Fucking help me! Does it matter if you ask the question?” I snapped, even as fear gripped me.“It matters because I don’t want you dead just yet,” he said, stepping closer. “You’ll have to earn your keep around here. Now, hold still.”“Why would I trust you?” I retorted but he ignored me
Dante's POVI stormed through the hallways, my patience hanging by a thread. My cousin, Bella had crossed a line tonight, and she would answer for it. That girl was mine to handle. Something told me there was more to her than met the eye, and I wasn’t about to let anyone touch her without my say-so.The moment I pushed open Bella’s door, I saw her resting like she had no care in the world, swirling a glass of red wine as if she hadn’t just stepped out of line."Why did you hurt her?" My voice was low, but it held the weight of a thousand unspoken threats.Bella didn’t even flinch. She just tilted her head, her lips curling into that infuriating smile she always wore when she wanted to push my buttons. "Who? Oh, you mean the girl?" She let out a light laugh. "You’re really asking me that?"I clenched my fists. "You know exactly who I’m talking about. Why did you touch her?""Touch her?" Bella mocked, swirling her wine and taking a slow sip. "Please. I was doing you a favor.""Without my
Vanessa's POVBella had dragged me in front of her mirror, yanking me from my chains and pulling me into her room. I didn’t know why I was here, but all I wanted was to get out.She tossed a dress in front of me, practically throwing it onto the bed. "That won’t do," she sneered. "You need something sexier to satisfy Dante. I don’t want to hear him complain about a maid failing him. I want you to be perfect." Her voice dripped with a wicked smirk I caught in the mirror. My throat went dry as I swallowed, blinking. Why is she pushing me at Dante? He hadn’t asked for anything. So why was she so eager?"I don’t think I—" I started, but she shut me down, pressing her finger to my lips. "Enough talk. More dressing."She spun me around to face her, and I couldn’t help but shiver at the strange thrill she seemed to get from this. Before I knew it, her hands were on me, tugging off my dress until I was down to just my bra and underwear. I stared at her, trying to figure out what the hell was
Vanessa's pov“Little girl, are you following?” His voice, rough and gravelly, snapped me out of my thoughts.I glanced down, realizing I was still half naked But instead of being anywhere near Dante, I had been daydreaming about seducing him, of all things, in my desperation to escape. He stepped closer, and I instinctively moved back.“What were you thinking about? Getting yourself killed or grilled? Your job begins today as my maid, and if anyone asks how you got here, you say nothing—or you’ll feel a bullet between your eyes!” His tone was sharp and relentless.A cold knot tightened in my stomach. I had landed with a worse mafia than I could have imagined. I cursed my birthday, wishing I’d never celebrated it. Why didn’t I let Marcello and Tess throw that party at my house instead? My dad’s insistence had led me here, after all. He had his own share in my mess.“Get out. The maids are waiting. I’ll see you at seven for my grand opening.”Before I could say a word, the maids ushere
**Vanessa’s POV**"Woah!" I exclaimed as I fell into the arms of a strong man. Luckily, he was quick to catch me and steadied me. I turned around to face the man, who had a well-chiseled face, piercing blue eyes, and a strand of hair falling over his forehead. How did I know he was part of the mafia? Maybe it was the distinct tattoos and the rings he wore that gave it away."Hi..." I stammered. He replied, "Wow... you look sweaty. Did you walk here from another country?"I tried to wave off the question with a smile, but he only shook his head, waiting for an answer.I obliged, saying, "It's a long story.""Xavier Wood. Nice to meet you," he said, flashing me a warm smile that somehow felt a bit off. He was the first person to be nice to me since my birthday.A mafia guy, being this nice? I hope I haven't walked into a trap."Let’s head inside. I'll buy you a drink," he said, turning to lead the way.I closed my eyes, praying he was the silver lining in my cloud, but as soon as I ente
My eyes widened as Dante entered the room. Finishing his applause, he slid his hands back into his pockets and pulled out a cigarette box, lighting a cigar. In a low voice, his gaze fixed on the lighter, he said, “You thought I wouldn’t find you? Why do you have to be so stupid all the time?”My lips trembled, and as my fingers shook frantically, I dropped the suitcase I was holding, which hit the floor with a loud thud.He glanced down and shrugged. “What’s that? You’re already packing your stuff?”“I…” I stammered. Before I could react, he rushed toward me like a cheetah chasing its prey and snatched the suitcase from my grip. This was the end of me! One wrong move, and I’d be finished. He removed the cigar from his mouth, threw it on the floor, and stamped it out. His gaze slowly swept over me. “Next time, if you don’t behave, your body will be the tray.”Dante opened the suitcase, and to my shock, there was no real cash inside—only paper money. Those fools had tried to scam me wit
Vanessa's povI looked at my arm; it was grazed by a bullet, and blood was trickling down. “Oh my God!” I screamed, clutching it with my other hand.Instead of hearing concern or pity, all I heard were cheers and shouts of celebration that seemed to pierce through my ears.“Nice one, Bella!” Dante said to her with a warm smile.I watched as she gave him a bow over me being shot, while neither of them lifted a finger to help or stop my bleeding. That’s when I realized he wasn’t angry at Arabella for hurting me all this time; he was only angry that she’d taken me without his permission.I could be hurt, but not taken.“Ouch!” I winced in pain, trying to hold the blood in.But instead of helping me, Dante and Bella returned to their shooting practice, while Alessandro merely stared.I took off on my heels, running to find any maid who might help.---MAID PIPER'S ROOMI watched as Maid Piper dressed my wound. She was the first person to actually help me without wanting anything in return
NEXT MORNINGDante's POVI woke up feeling grumpy, my head throbbing with a familiar ache. The morning sunlight streaming through the window only intensified my irritation. My mom's meddling was the last thing I needed. Why did she always have to pry into my business? I thought I was the head of the family business, not her.Standing up from the plush bed, I opened the window to gaze out at the expansive pool below, its crystal-clear waters sparkling in the morning light. The sound of gentle lapping against the pool's edges was a brief respite from my anger.Suddenly, I heard a knock on the door, unusual since the maids knew better than to disturb me after 8 am. It couldn't be my mom; she never knocked. That left one possibility: Vanessa, the naive newcomer."Come in!" I yelled, my deep voice echoing through the room.Vanessa entered, dressed in a crisp maid's uniform, a tray of delicacies in her hands. Her bright red and black hair was tied back in a neat bun, and her green eyes spa
*Vanessa's POVI opened my mouth in fear as I saw the strand of red hair in his hand. What is happening? Am I dreaming? "There's no way my hair ended up in this room," I thought, my mind racing. I never cleaned his room, and I certainly didn't steal his drugs."Tell me... now! Why did you do it?" Dante yelled, his deep voice echoing off the walls, making my heart almost stop. His piercing gaze seemed to bore into my soul."I...," I began, but memories of Jade flooded my mind. Wait... did Jade set me up? I blinked rapidly, and my gaze met Jade's, who was laughing in the corner, her eyes gleaming with malice. The rage boiling inside me manifested in my actions as I gritted my teeth and clenched my fists, trying to break free from the guards. "You bitch... you set me up! How dare you? I saved you from that monster, and now you're shoving me under the bed!" I spat, my voice venomous.I couldn't get to her, but I heard her mocking laughter, fueling my fury. The nerve to betray me after I
Vanessa's povThe knife pressed against my palm as I deliberated my next action. Should I kill her for intimidating me or let her go? I raised the blade but stopped midway, throwing it to the floor. The noise didn’t even wake her. She was so intoxicated that not even an earthquake could rouse her. Regardless, I saw no reward or good outcome in killing her. I still needed to find my sister, and the last thing I wanted was to end up dead—or to make another enemy. At some point, I wanted to give up, but thoughts of my sister—how she was breathing, eating, drinking—rekindled my determination. I groaned and muttered before leaving, “Jade… you’re one lucky bitch.” ---### 8 A.M. I was in the bathroom cleaning the toilet of a room next to Dante’s when I heard screams and cries. What’s going on? Who are they torturing now? I barged through the door and froze. Dante sat on his little throne, Alessandro and Bella standing with their arms crossed, and Jade lay half-naked on the fl
**Vanessa's POV**I froze as warm blood splattered across my face, painting my vision in red. The man in front of me collapsed to the ground, a gaping hole in his head where the bullet had struck."Oh my God!"My gaze darted up to find my savior—Alessandro, his gun now pointed at Dante. Alessandro saved me… but why? After everything, after betraying me last time, why would he come back?Enemy or not, he was the only person here I could cling to, hide behind, and trust even a little. My body trembled in fear as my eyes scanned the scene. Finally, I bolted behind Alessandro, seeking refuge, every nerve in my body on edge.Dante’s cold, dangerous voice shattered the silence. "What did you just do?" He moved closer, his gaze fixed on Alessandro.Alessandro lowered the gun slightly, still gripping it tightly. "I did what I had to do."Dante’s voice sharpened. "Alessandro, have you gone soft? Why would you do this?"Alessandro's tone was raw, as if revealing something painfully close to him
Dante's povMy eyes narrowed, jaw clenched in rage. The slap echoed through the room, and for a moment, time stood still. Vanessa's defiance was replaced with a flicker of fear, but she stood her ground.'You dare to slap me?' My voice was low, menacing. 'You, a mere maid, think you can disrespect me?'I took a step closer, my movements deliberate, calculated. Vanessa's eyes widened as I grasped her wrist, my grip tightening.'You need to learn your place,' I hissed, my breath hot against her ear. 'And I'll make sure you do.'"I dragged Vanessa out of the room, her feet stumbling to keep up with my long strides. The maids watched in silence, their faces pale.'Where are we going?' Vanessa demanded, trying to wrestle free.I didn't respond yet I pulled her through the winding corridors, finally stopping at a door hidden behind a tapestry.'Inside,' i growled and shoved her into the dimly lit room.Vanessa stumbled, her eyes adjusting slowly. The room was sparse, with stone walls a
Vanessa's PovI screamed as the men closed in on me, my mind spinning. What the hell was Bella thinking, trying to hand me over to a group of quack doctors for some bizarre “surgery?”I darted toward the door, but Bella’s voice stopped me in my tracks. “Stop it!” she snapped, then hesitated before quickly adding, “He’s back! Everyone, act like you’re treating her!”The men stumbled to put on the act, pretending to check me over as “patients.” Then, just as they got in place, the door opened. He was back—Dante. The air shifted, heavy and silent as he scanned the room with a cold, unreadable expression. His gaze flicked between me and Bella, and I could practically feel the questions in his eyes. Before he could speak, Bella jumped in, forcing a warm smile. “I… I realized I might’ve overreacted earlier,” she said, her tone calm. “So, I brought in doctors to help with her wounds!”I felt a surge of anger. Two-faced liar!Dante narrowed his eyes, glancing at the “doctors” in surgical gown
Vanessa's povMy fingers brushed down my warm, tense abs as I avoided looking at him. It had been a long time since I’d tried anything like this. Staring into his eyes while trying to seduce him felt like more of a challenge than I’d anticipated.Still, as I brushed my lips across his nose, he didn’t pull away. If anything, he seemed to enjoy it, even if I couldn’t fully relax into the moment myself.I waited, feeling my heart race, hoping he’d run his hands over my exposed back, trace every curve. But nothing. The silence broke when Alessandro burst in, pushing the door wide open.“Master Dante, you need to see this!” he shouted. In shock, I slipped into the water, hiding myself.I didn’t dare look up, but I felt Dante’s gaze linger on me. He must be wondering a hundred things, questioning why I was acting this way. The embarrassment made me bite my lip. I hadn’t noticed he was calling my name until he tapped my hand—right over my fresh wound.“Ow!” I gasped, narrowing my eyes at him
