LEILA

.

.

“You’re being called,” Gerald had growled, his voice a low rumble that vibrated through the very air, shaking me to my core.

It  felt like I could just dissolve into the shadows, vanish into thin air, but that wasn’t even remotely possible in this life.

I looked at Misa, her face a mask of carefully neutral concern, and then back at my phone lying discarded on the bed.

Trying to stand, my legs felt like lead, my vision still slightly blurred from the lingering effects of the previous night.

“What do you think might be the cause?” I whispered to Misa, my voice barely audible, while Gerald had turned his back, his broad shoulders tense.

At first, a jolt of pure panic had shot through me, thinking something terrible had happened and he was here to deliver some devastating blow, but no, he was just here for a call.

So why did the summons feel so heavy, so ominous?

His eyes, when he had looked at me, had seemed utterly devoid of life.

 Black.

Just black.

Totally dead.

“I don’t think you should be talking right now,” Misa had murmured, her gaze flicking nervously towards Gerald’s rigid form.

I followed behind as he moved with a grim purpose towards the door, Misa trailing immediately after me, her footsteps light and quick.

“We could be walking into our death,” I’d whispered, a nervous giggle escaping my lips.

“So I have to say my last words.”

Gerald had stopped abruptly, turning to look at me, his expression unreadable, and I’d instantly clapped a hand over my mouth, the humor dying in my throat.

This was more serious than I had initially grasped.

My smile completely vanished, and Misa fell into a tense silence beside me.

We walked through the long, oppressive hallway, the silence amplifying the nervous flutter in my stomach.

We reached the door.

I didn’t like this door.

It was the same hall, the same ominous threshold, where he had so coldly taken the life of Tracy.

The memory alone sent a fresh wave of fear crashing over me, making my hands tremble.

I frantically ran through everything I had done, everything I had said today, trying to pinpoint some transgression that would warrant a death sentence.

“Do you think I did something so bad?” I’d asked Misa, my voice barely a choked whisper, and she had just raised a hand, palm out, a silent gesture of ignorance or perhaps a warning to be quiet.

She didn’t even look remotely scared, her composure a contrast to my own unraveling nerves.

We walked through the doorway and into the vast, echoing space.

Damien stood there, his back to us, one hand casually resting behind him, but even from this distance, I could see the telltale glint of metal a gun.

The same gun.

A Glock 17gen5

The latest model, sleek and deadly.

At least I knew my weapons.

And then my eyes landed on Matteo.

He knelt on the cold stone floor, his head bowed, his face utterly devoid of emotion, an unsettling blank canvas.

“I guess you were never going to tell me about the letters, right?” Damien’s voice cut through the silence, sharp and laced with a coldness that made my blood ruddy in my skin.

Fear, raw and visceral, gripped me in that instant, and I staggered, almost losing my footing.

“I… I… I did plan on telling you, bu…” My voice trailed off, my throat suddenly tight with terror.

He turned fully then, his gaze piercing, locking onto mine.

Misa had already retreated to a corner of the hall, standing with her head bowed slightly.

I was the only one left standing, exposed and vulnerable under the weight of everyone’s watchful eyes.

My mind raced, trying to comprehend what could have possibly made Matteo, the ever-defiant Matteo, kneel like that.

He didn’t strike me as the type to ever willingly bend the knee.

“I had told you,” Damien continued, his voice dangerously calm, “that anything concerning me, anything you needed to relay, you could bring it directly, and you would be brought to me. You have a phone.” His eyes, dark and intense, held mine for a long, agonizing moment before he turned his attention back to me.

“Damien, I…” I began, my voice trembling.

He walked closer to me, closing the distance between us until we were just a breath apart. His eyes, like chips of obsidian, locked onto mine, and I knew in that instant there was no turning back from this confrontation. It was either my last day, or a day I would lose a part of myself I didn’t even know I could afford to sacrifice.

“Raven!” he growled, his voice low and guttural, his breath fanning across my face.

“Do not, don’t be… that. Don’t do that.” He spoke calmly this time, but the underlying rage was there.

I could feel the tension radiating off him, the barely contained fury simmering beneath his controlled exterior.

The veins in his neck looked like they were about to pop,Then, he turned abruptly towards Matteo, his gaze hardening.

“I had my eyes off her, trusting you to look after her, to guard her, and all you did was go behind my back, sending letters, forgetting she’s under my protection.” My eyes widened in shock.

Gerald moved towards Matteo, his footsteps echoing on the floor. He leaned in, whispering something in Damien’s ear. Damien’s eyes darkened further, if that was even possible, and he looked down at the kneeling man.

Squatting down, his movements fluid and predatory, Damien used the barrel of his gun to tilt Matteo’s head up, forcing him to look into his eyes.

“The Elvares,” he scoffed, the name dripping with contempt.

That name… it sounded familiar, a dark whisper in the undercurrents of this world. I’d heard the Elvares were dangerous, not to be trifled with, and for years, a bitter feud had simmered between this families.

He turned towards me and walked closer, his gaze never leaving mine and then he stretched his hand backward, still staring intently as I hesitantly placed my hand in his.

Bang.

Bang.

The deafening sound of the gun echoed in my ears, the sharp report sending a jolt of pure terror through me.

I subconsciously screamed, tears instantly welling up and streaming down my face as I instinctively stumbled backward, wanting to run, to get as far away from the violence as possible.

I might be next.

“Damien, I’m sorry,” I sobbed, my voice choked with fear “I never meant to keep it from you. I just… I was scared. I didn’t know what to do. It involved my life.”

The image of Matteo falling backward after the gunshot, his body collapsing onto the floor, was already seared into my memory, a horrifying tableau.

He had been my friend, or at least someone I had considered a friend, and I doubted he would have done anything to truly harm me.

But he did.

The information had come from Gerald, and in this world, Gerald’s word was something Damien doesn’t joke with, he must have done their own investigations, been certain of his betrayal.

Damien moved towards the door, his hand still gripping mine tightly. I instinctively followed, my body trembling uncontrollably. I think this small alcove by the door was the only spot that offered even a sliver of concealment. He looked down at me, his expression unreadable, before turning his gaze towards the now open doorway.

I turned my head, my eyes darting across everyone’s faces.

They all looked pale and scared, frozen in place by the sudden violence, except for Gerald, whose expression remained impassive, a silent witness to the brutal consequences of disloyalty.

LEILA ..Misa came inside, her footsteps feels soft as she walked to my side, her presence a small anchor in the storm raging within me.Her hands moved to my back, soothing, rubbing gentle circles, a silent acknowledgment of the raw terror that still clung to my skin.“How the hell did my life get to this?” I can barely breathe at this moment “Getting to watch bloodshed every damn day, and then serve him in bed.”Except that the sex was perfect in a way that twisted my insides. How had I even ended up here, in this gilded cage, my body betraying my mind at every turn? My head began to swim, my thoughts a chaotic jumble, my mind drifting to places I tried to keep locked away.I felt a desperate urge to reach out to my mom again, to hear her voice, to know if she was alright. If the treatment was going well, or if everything was falling apart back home from which he had promised he was taking care of her, and against all logic, I clung to his words.Misa sat beside me, hopping onto

LEILA ..It felt unbelievably good to be free.Four days had passed, and I hadn’t had the constant gnawing need to watch my every word, to respond to some demand, or to live in the suffocating grip of fear for my life.I might not know when the inevitable return to that reality would happen, but one thing I clung to fiercely in the present was this fragile sense of liberation.“What do you think? This one, or that?” Misa asked, holding up two brightly colored dresses against her body.We were getting ready to visit a club, a more revelation to the suffocating silence of the mansion. The new bodyguard assigned to us, a burly man with watchful eyes, had informed us that Damien had given strict instructions while he was to take us wherever we wanted, with the explicit exclusion of my house and anything that dredged up my past.I saw it as a twisted form of torture, a cruel reminder of what I couldn't have, but I didn't dare defy his orders. At least I was getting out, and he had eve

LEILA ..“Her body felt so soft, and I just wanted to feel more of it,” Misa was still giggling, a light, airy sound that grated slightly on my already frayed nerves.I turned to my left, grabbing the nearest drink from the counter, a clear, potent liquid that burned going down.I was already feeling the edges of intoxication blurring my senses.I scanned the club, trying to locate the two men, to see if my earlier unease had been justified, but they were nowhere to be found.Maybe they had gone upstairs, or maybe I was just being paranoid, my mind conjuring threats where there were none, overreacting as usual.“What’s wrong?” Misa asked, her voice pulling me back from my anxious thoughts.I blinked, feeling like I hadn’t truly heard her as I reached for another drink, but she gently placed her hand on my arm, a subtle tension running between us. “Just my thoughts,” I mumbled, trying to sound casual.“What did you see?” she pressed, her gaze becoming more concerned. She leaned cl

LEILA ..He walked towards me, his gaze locked onto mine, and a chilling realization washed over me. I was the target. Not any of the others huddled in fear, not even Misa.Everyone else, the terrified guards, the whimpering maids they were just witnesses. The heavy door creaked open again, and several young women, some almost naked except for little coverage of panties, one completely bare, were shoved into the hall, their screams echoing off the cold stone walls. At that moment, a strange numbness settled over me, even as my insides trembled violently. The sheer audacity of it all, the blatant disregard for human life, for him to look at me with that cold, calculating intensity, I knew what it meant. They knew I was close to Damien but how had they figured that out?I hadn’t been out with him publicly, and no one here knew about our complicated past, our twisted version of family except for that visit to my mom and maybe they had been watching me for a long time.He stopped

DAMIEN ..The call dropped, the silence in the hotel room suddenly deafening after Misa’s frantic words. We had just stepped off the plane, the humidity clinging to us like a second skin, the promise of a few days of respite before heading back to New York hanging in the air.“What’s wrong?” I’d asked, my gut twisting with a sudden premonition.“Leila… the estate was raided. She was taken. Everything’s shattered.” I said to Gerald while he came around where I stood, looking at me like he had just seen a ghost but that was barely a problem as my eyes widened in disbelief, then narrowed with a white-hot fury that threatened to consume me.“They fucking took her?” I slammed my fist into the wall, again and again, the drywall cracking under the force of my rage.We were in a goddamn hotel room, the plan to return to our lives in the Alvaro’s Mansion the next day now a distant, mocking memory. “Buddy, you gotta hold on,” Gerald said, his voice surprisingly calm amidst my storm of fury.

DAMIEN ..I watched her retreating back as she gathered her things, her movements stiff, each step a testament to the pain she wouldn't voice. She didn't turn back as she limped towards the door, a silent goodbye.I knew she was hurting, both physically and emotionally, but she wouldn't let it show. That's Leila for you. Sex with her was always electric, a primal connection that left me breathless, and the way she moaned my name… it drove me fucking insane, and she knew I loved seeing her in that garter belt, a small, wicked detail that always set my blood on fire and she knew me too damn well, understood the twisted desires that lurked beneath the surface. This was it. The end of the Elvares. They were finally erased, a stain wiped clean, and if any of their bloodline, any distant cousin or forgotten offspring, still drew breath somewhere in this godforsaken world, then they should be ready for a war unlike any they had ever imagined. They should come armed with a fucking army,

LEILA ..Maybe everything I had ever thought about Damien, the darkness that clung to him like a second skin, the ruthlessness that could chill you to the bone, all seemed to trace back to my mother’s actions. All this time, all he had wanted, deep down, was to exact the same kind of revenge, a bitter truth that settled in my stomach like a lead weight.I could feel it in the air, a lingering tension that even Gerald, who usually bounced back from anything with a grin, couldn't completely dispel but Damien… Damien wasn’t wired that way.He didn’t simply get over things, not even for a little while. He would make sure you understood the depth of his pain, would rip your heart out if you didn’t feel it too.He truly lived by that twisted code of “do unto others as you would have them do unto you,” a philosophy that painted his world in shades of vengeance and retribution. The kiss deepened, becoming a slow, deliberate claim, he controlled the way we shifted on the bed, a subtle yet

LEILA ..“I want you here.”His words hung in the air, each syllable echoing in my ears like a warning bell, as if I was caught trying to escape, or maybe this was the last time he was ever going to see me.“I want to get some rest, and I think you need it too,” I said softly, placing my hand gently on his arm, trying to remove his grip on mine.I was still wary, acutely aware that he was the one who called the shots in this here, but he was weak now, vulnerable, and he desperately needed rest. “I just need a few minutes,” “It might help me sleep. I can get anyone to do it, but I think… I think I want to hear you speak.”He tried to push himself up higher against the pillows, his movements stiff and pained. He should have been lying flat on his back, protecting the wound, but instead, he was trying to sit up, his face etched with discomfort.“Why did you never question Mabel?” he asked, his gaze suddenly intense, piercing. This wasn’t the time to talk about my mother, not now.M

LEILA ..My thighs were throbbing even through the thick bandages I had managed to wrap around them. It was a grim skill I’d picked up in this life, knowing how to treat wounds, especially after seeing Alvin shoot that poor nurse without a second thought, it has resurfaced within me, it hasn’t been me who’d had the knitting pin yanked out, Gerald had handled that, his face grim as he’d worked. We had left that burning hellhole behind, and as we drove further away, a deafening boom echoed in the distance. I turned to see Alvin’s estate engulfed in flames, a raging inferno against the dark sky.“We need your help,” Gerald said, his clothes looking fresh, like he’d changed into something new.He seemed to have regained his composure, but my mind was still racing, fixated on Damien.“How’s he feeling?”They had called someone else for medical assistance to oversee his injured area.“He needs to be stitched up and bandaged properly,” he scratched his head like some confused child. “N
