LEILA

.

.

Ugh. Dragging myself towards the bathroom felt like trying to move through thick syrup, my body feels so so weak at this moment, even if I did nothing except laying on the bed.

Three days.

Three damn days since I last saw  or heard from Damien not like I wanted to but it feels so strange and dirty, every time I even thought about what happened between us, that whole messed up night, my brain just replayed it on loop.

But what really got under my skin that the sex… yeah the sex was actually something I couldn’t stop thinking about.

Seriously?

“Arghhhhhh” I groaned, squeezing the toothpaste onto my brush, while I scrubbed the sleep grime off my teeth which actually was the same routine every morning.

Except, you know the food magically appears outside my door part, which was new, it’s always the knock and take we had worked with now it feels so different like the person was tired or sees me as a maniac, maybe Matteo does too, but he’s certainly not the food giver.

After rinsing my mouth, I checked my reflection then shuffled over to the bed with my new book laying in my phone pretty well and it was time to dive back into that world.

Well it was intense, even for an erotica, way beyond fifty shades, maybe even a little twisted because the girl in the story, she was lost, didn’t know what she wanted and somehow sleeping with her stepbrother was her way of figuring things out.

Then bam!

Turns out he wasn’t really her stepbrother, cue the fireworks, part of me kinda got it, the whole t tiny to make meaning of thing and getting entangled with her step brother.

But her life was million miles different from mine right now.

It might look like we’re following a similar part but hate not the case here.

A jolt of hunger rushing to the rushed through me as I moved to the door, it’s almost noon and that clicks that it’s good delivery time.

I peeked through the peephole, I half hoped for a call, anything to break the silence and then I saw it again.

The black Rose and another of those creepy threat letters.

My breath hitched.

Carefully I closed the door behind me, the fear of the threat owner coming to light from behind, my hand was seriously trembling as I scanned both ends of the hallway, heart pounding as I unfolded the letter.

“You should count yourself lucky today, I had a surprise planned, something you and your souls would have loved to meet. But this time, you get a pass. The moment Damien gets wind of this, though, consider yourself dead.

Don’t even think of looking for me, every attempt will be seen as you begging for more of this and trust me, it will get much more worse. The more you look the more I’m drawn to blowing your brains out, be careful with every damn step you take outside that door”

My eyes widened.

Who the fucking hell was doing this?

Still staring at the letter, I noticed a pair of shoes right in front of me, different from the usual guards’ boots. The trousers looked expensive, a dark, tailored fabric I hadn’t seen around here before. My heart hammered against my ribs, a frantic drumbeat, my hands started to shake so badly I almost dropped the letter.

He was finally here.

Whoever “he” was and the only thing I could think to do was face it. Even if it meant this was the end. It definitely wasn’t Damien or Gerald or any of the other guys who worked here.

“What are you doing?” I jumped, clutching the rose to my chest like a shield. My head snapped up, and I stared straight into his eyes.

“Fuck” he breathed out, with my exclamation, his gaze locking into mine.

“What the hell are you doing here? Your food is right there.” I gestured vaguely towards the tray on the floor, but honestly food was the last thing on my mind.

I was in some serious danger here and I couldn’t even tell Damien without making things ten times worse.

“I… can I speak to you more privately?” He looked at me like I was speaking another language. Maybe I was, what explanation could I even give?

I shoved the letter in his hands “This, I keep getting death threats” his angry face softened, a different feeling from what it was.

“What’s this?” He took the crumpled paper, his brow squeezing as he read it.

“Since when has this been happening?”

“Found one here a few days ago, they’ve been piling up since and I think you should come in” his cold look returning before vanishing just as quickly.

“I can’t do that”  he stepped back slightly handing the letter back to me  “I’ll get killed without a second thought if I’m found here for so long” I knew what he meant and he was right.

Damien didn’t exactly hand out participation trophies.

“Is there something else that serves as punishment here aside from killing?” My voice was so tiny and same as his, even if it’s the deep version, trying not to alert anyone.

I saw a guard approaching from the end of the hall, panic engulfed me as I grabbed Matteo’s arm, pulling him inside and slamming the door shut.

It wouldn’t look good if anyone saw us talking.

I picked up the food tray, forcing a smile at the guard who passed by seemingly oblivious.

I open the door and moved back inside, I nudged the door closed with my leg dropping the tray on the table, Matteo just stood there, his eyes dropping to my panties.

My eyes widened, I quickly picked it off  the bed, trying to hold it tight in my hand to erase the memory of it off his brain.

“That isn’t a nice thing to do in a lady’s room” I moved backward as he places his hand behind his back, still waiting for what made me push him inside here.

I cleared my throat, feeling like I was about to moderate some kind of bizarre meeting “I need to understand what’s going on and for me to do that I might be needing your help” I offered him a small smile, a hopeful and reassuring one.

“And how do I even come into play here?” I shoved what was in my hand inside the closet and then walked back to the desk, his eyes following my every move.

“I think you should just report this to Damien. Its really more serious than I thought”

I turned to the drawer where I’d been hiding the other letters from the last two days, pulling them out and shoving them along with the black roses into his hands.

“It’s been up for days?”

“Three days and counting, I can’t tell Damien, Matteo, he can’t know about this because…because it concerns my life and I have to live no matter what” I sank onto the edge of the bed biting my nails.

Anxiety always made me ridiculously sleepy.

“I have to leave, I’ll look out for this” he carries the letter above his heading referring to it “you should be careful and safe”

I nodded walking to the door to peek out before he left. “Thank you so much, I’ll talk to you when I can” he nodded, not looking back as he slipped out of the door.

At least I had him on my side now, the fear hadn’t vanished but it had shifted like a weight being moved to a less crushing spot. I walked over to the food picking at it absently, my mind still calculating and racing.

DAMIEN ..“I needed you to look into it,” I’d stated, the words a low growl that rumbled with barely contained fury.A disturbing number of operations had been going sideways lately, and the sheer audacity of the Elvares, those vipers, slithering onto my territory and conducting their dirty business without even a whisper of respect, had my temper flaring. It hadn’t ended cleanly, not by a long shot.I’d moved to the far end of the dimly lit study, the heavy curtains drawn tight against the evening. She hadn’t seen me enter, and the shadows clinging to the corners of the room seemed to swallow my presence whole. Frankly, I hadn’t wanted her to see me yet.I was still wrestling with the image of her, trying to claw her out of the relentless grip she had on my thoughts.Eighty percent of the time I stepped out of this damn mansion, her face, her scent, a strange mix of defiance and vulnerability, her infuriating presence haunted my every waking moment. Not in some soft, romantic w

LEILA ..“You’re being called,” Gerald had growled, his voice a low rumble that vibrated through the very air, shaking me to my core.It felt like I could just dissolve into the shadows, vanish into thin air, but that wasn’t even remotely possible in this life.I looked at Misa, her face a mask of carefully neutral concern, and then back at my phone lying discarded on the bed.Trying to stand, my legs felt like lead, my vision still slightly blurred from the lingering effects of the previous night.“What do you think might be the cause?” I whispered to Misa, my voice barely audible, while Gerald had turned his back, his broad shoulders tense. At first, a jolt of pure panic had shot through me, thinking something terrible had happened and he was here to deliver some devastating blow, but no, he was just here for a call. So why did the summons feel so heavy, so ominous? His eyes, when he had looked at me, had seemed utterly devoid of life. Black.Just black.Totally dead. “I don’t

LEILA ..It felt unbelievably good to be free.Four days had passed, and I hadn’t had the constant gnawing need to watch my every word, to respond to some demand, or to live in the suffocating grip of fear for my life.I might not know when the inevitable return to that reality would happen, but one thing I clung to fiercely in the present was this fragile sense of liberation.“What do you think? This one, or that?” Misa asked, holding up two brightly colored dresses against her body.We were getting ready to visit a club, a more revelation to the suffocating silence of the mansion. The new bodyguard assigned to us, a burly man with watchful eyes, had informed us that Damien had given strict instructions while he was to take us wherever we wanted, with the explicit exclusion of my house and anything that dredged up my past.I saw it as a twisted form of torture, a cruel reminder of what I couldn't have, but I didn't dare defy his orders. At least I was getting out, and he had eve

I can get anyone to do it, but I think… I think I want to hear you speak.”He tried to push himself up higher against the pillows, his movements stiff and pained. He should have been lying flat on his back, protecting the wound, but instead, he was trying to sit up, his face etched with discomfort.“Why did you never question Mabel?” he asked, his gaze suddenly intense, piercing. LEILA ..My thighs were throbbing even through the thick bandages I had managed to wrap around them. It was a grim skill I’d picked up in this life, knowing how to treat wounds, especially after seeing Alvin shoot that poor nurse without a second thought, it has resurfaced within me, it hasn’t been me who’d had the knitting pin yanked out, Gerald had handled that, his face grim as he’d worked. We had left that burning hellhole behind, and as we drove further away, a deafening boom echoed in the distance. I turned to see Alvin’s estate engulfed in flames, a raging inferno against the dark sky.“We need your help,” Gerald said, his clothes looking fresh, like he’d changed into something new.He seemed to have regained his composure, but my mind was still racing, fixated on Damien.“How’s he feeling?”They had called someone else for medical assistance to oversee his injured area.“He needs to be stitched up and bandaged properly,” he scratched his head like some confused child. “N

He had shouted obscenities into my ears, his breath hot and foul against my skin, warning me against even looking at Damien. They knew he was coming but not today. Although, at that point, I couldn’t fathom why he would, why he would risk everything for me, a nobody he had plucked from a life he barely acknowledged or maybe because he owned me and I know what that meant. But then Alvin had traced a possessive finger down my cleavage, a camera recording my every reaction, before forcing the cold, hard barrel of a gun into my mouth.I had thrown up afterwards, the taste of bile mingling with the metallic tang of fear and I had cried so much, tears streaming down my

DAMIEN ..I slammed my boot against the first door, the flimsy wood groaning in protest before splintering inward with a violent crack. Two hulking figures, built like brick frame, charged at me, their eyes promising a brutal fight. They looked like the kind of muscle Alvin would hire, thinking brute force could stop me.I didn't even break my stride, my gun already spitting fire, two quick bursts taking them down before they could even reach me. Their heavy bodies thudded onto the polished floor, the sound barely audible over the terrified screams of the women huddled in the corner, their hands clamped over their ears. They were mostly naked, just scraps of fabric clinging to them, their eyes wide with a fear that mirrored Leila's in my nightmares.I hated that sound, the sound of pure terror, it clawed at something inside me, a primal protectiveness for what was mine. That raw sound, the sheer vulnerability in their screams, only fueled the boiling rage inside me.I shoved the li

Guess he still hadn’t figured out who the fuck he was messing with.Every damn whisper in the New York underworld eventually found its way to me. I was the damn underworld, and the Alvaros weren't some two-bit operation to be taken lightly. Not even if I drew my last breath.I was the devil they all feared, and Alvin had just signed his death warrant, this kind of shit doesn’t happen while I watch , not on my territory.I walked towards the imposing gate of Alvin’s estate, the wrought iron cold against my palm as I pushed it open.My guys moved with a practiced silence, slipping through the opening like shadows. The air instantly crackled

She was taken. Everything’s shattered.” I said to Gerald while he came around where I stood, looking at me like he had just seen a ghost but that was barely a problem as my eyes widened in disbelief, then narrowed with a white-hot fury that threatened to consume me.“They fucking took her?” I slammed my fist into the wall, again and again, the drywall cracking under the force of my rage.We were in a goddamn hotel room, the plan to return to our lives in the Alvaro’s Mansion the next day now a distant, mocking memory. “Buddy, you gotta hold on,” Gerald said, his voice surprisingly calm amidst my storm of fury.
